About Me

  1. I have Original Xbox, I had it since it was released... recently I powered it up, HDD keeps on spinning like crazy and never stops. I got the green screen with "contact support". I pulled the HDD 20GB and tried to connect it to my desktop, the HDD spins with none stop, and the drive was not shown/recognized by my PC. I am not sure if I install a new IDE HDD would work/boot. I searched for Xbox OS/dashboard to download so that I can install on the new HDD, it seems that I only need to install the HDD, and the Xbox will load from the build-in eprom/chip. Please correct me if I understood wrong
  2. On one of my xboxs the molex coord doesn't power up HDD's I've been able to get the Xbox running by powering the HDD by using the molex connector from another Xbox to power up the HDD. Any idea on how to fix this?
  3. Hi, Love this forum and got a lot of great info from here. Recently I dusted of my good old softmod and gave this all a go again after many years. I was able to tsop the xbox and install a larger harddisk. My friends picked up on the idea of having a xbox with emustation and asked me to build one for them as well. So I ended up buying and working on 6 xboxes and harddrives that all went trough their own struggle to get the job done but hey, I made it. Thing is though, at some point I used chimp to format a 500gb WD and it locked it by the end of the session in one of the xboxes. this drive ended up not being used and now I want to use it again but I do not know what xbox it's from. Being all wel prepped I did read all the eeproms from al the xboxes trough simple serial eeprom reader. Extracted them straight of the board with no issues but the sidenote is I never did with this 500gb WD hdd installed. And this is where my confusion is, because what I understand is the eeprom is xbox specific. And the harddrive password is generated trough the hdd serial number and model based on the eeprom. (Please correct me if I'm wrong). So all the eeproms I have when I read them in live info beta 3 show me other harddrives. So I connected the harddrive to my ide port refreshed the disk managment, it pops up under disk# and I try to select it in live info without any luck. I tried running chimp in order to unlock the hdd in the slave disk options with all the available eeproms but had no luck. Basically, and I'm sorry this is a long read, I'm trying to find a way to backwards engineer my hdd locking code with the 6 eeproms I have available that all state a different make/brand/sn hdd. Thank you in advance Pascal
  4. Greetings from Greece and congrats for the valuable info shared in this site. This is my first post here although I' ve been reading a lot of threads and have TSOP flashed - modded several XBOXes in the past. Generaly i upgrade hard drives by installing 5400 rmp WD green ones which work great. So my question is simple. Is it ok if I install an 7200rpm 3.5 inch HDD? My biggest concern is the higher temps those HDD generate and how this affects the other internal components of the box.
  5. So im working with a v1.0 xbox and I am trying to install the img from a 2tb Origins build. I have my original HDD softmodded and it is working fine. I was able to null the original HDD key and pull the EEPROM off and after successfully mounting the img to a new 2TB HDD was able to lock it with the pulled EEPROM with XBHDM. When I turn on the system with the new HDD it will show the xbox logo with "Microsoft" in white on the bottom, then it goes to a black screen. The LED stays green. Looking around I saw suggested that this meant that the softmod or .xbe was broken or that the shortcut linked to the needed .xbe didn't exist, so using XBHDM and Xplorer360 i was able to get into the new HDD and I was messing around with the config and .xbe files and got it to work at one point (kinda, and i'm not sure what exactly made it work, i know i know i should have taken better notes of what i was doing but this was a several day process and I had tried like 50+ different modifications/combinations). It would boot into a black screen as normal but when i opened up the disk drive the screen would flash and I would get another xbox logo splash screen without the Microsoft in white on the bottom, the LED would turn orange, and then it would boot up into the new dashboard/image. That worked fine for a few hours, even after disconnecting power and reconnecting. Then all of the sudden it stopped going to the new dashboard and img when opening the disk drive and the screen will stay black (i figured it may be an issue with taking a long time to load so i've let it sit there for 15min+ and nothing happens). I am at a complete loss, im somewhat tech savy but I have no idea how to even approach this fix. Any help would be much appreciated and I thank you in advance! Edit - I used the Splintercell save to softmod via USB, which worked fine to softmod with the old HDD. With the new HDD in it will not load any disks, be it the Splinter Cell game, Hexen Tools, or the Rocky5 Softmod Extras, and I cannot do anything but power off when its on the black screen.
  6. I have an unused 80GB 2.5" IDE HDD bought for an old laptop which died before I got around to fitting it. The problem or maybe not a problem is the 2.5" IDE to 3.5" IDE adapter. I've found what I think are suitable ones on Ebay/Amazon (F 2.5" with M 3.5" to connect to the IDE cable). But the thing I'm not sure about is the power supply. The ones I've found have a (F) Molex connector + cable but only wired with red and black cables. This I assume is 5v and ground ie. normal Molex power connections. Is this enough to power the 2.5" HDD? It should be but it got me thinking about why the Xbox HDD power supply has both 5v and 12v connections (red + ground and yellow + ground) if they're not both needed. If a standard 3.5" HDD in the Xbox needs more than 12v available perhaps a 2.5" HDD needs more than 5v too. Knowledgeable advice appreciated.
  7. i get dirty disc error, any hdd fix or tutorial?
  8. So I TSOPed my Xbox and spent days building my setup, ripping games etc. I got a little too confident and tried to do a ram upgrade and trashed my motherboard. I’m planning to TSOP another Xbox and want to just stick this HDD in it so I can pick up where I left off before the fatal ram upgrade attempt. I’d like to think I had the foresight to keep the drive unlocked but I’m not sure if I did or not. Is there any guidance on how to best accomplish this?
  9. Okay, so I really messed up. I recently got back two 1.6 Xboxes that I haven't had for ages, immediately set out to soft mod them. Looked up and used the Rocky5 kit, worked perfectly, got the first one up fine. But then when I went to FTP some files to it and noticed the Partitions were setup in a way that my file wouldn't fit. Found a partitioning tool called Xbpartitioner 1.3b or something like that, and without doing any research I transferred it to the Xbox to resize the HDD partition. This erased the Rocky5 dashboard and put up an UnleashedX dashboard. I hadn't access to DVDs, so wanted to install the Rocky5 Extra Disc to the Xbox and run it from there. Found some type of program that claimed to mount and run the Extras Disc, performed the upgrade, Xbox came back to an error message. (Error Message 13). Some Googling says that this appears to happen when the dashboard can't be loaded. I softmodded the other Xbox successfully using the same Rocky5 setup and it's working fine. I was hoping to clone the working Xbox drive over to bricked one, but Chimp is listing the drive as locked and I can't access the EEPROM key. I believe the Rocky5 mod backs up to the HDD in the E:\ Directory, but I also believe the partition may have erased it? I went out, got some DVDs and burned the Extras Disc. It doesn't run in the Bricked Xbox, but loads up fine in the new one. The bricked HDD no longer contains the Exploited Savegames I used to initiate the softmod. I can load Retail games, but booting the dashboard leads to the error message (Error 13). Also saw suggestions to insert an Xbox Live game like Halo 2. This did not work either, the game simply reloaded instead of returning to the Dashboard. So basically what can I do here? Should I be looking to get an IDE to USB converter, so that I can copy the Exploited Savegames onto the HDD and re-load the Softmod? Should I be trying to get the EEPROM backup of the E:\ Drive, assuming it wasn't formatted? Is there something else I can do? I've done lots of searching and haven't found anyone else as stupid as me.
  10. So im looking to put a bigger HDD in my Xbox, thinking of going with a 1TB 3.5 Sata WD Blue from Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/WD-TB-PC-Hard-Drive/dp/B0088PUEPK/ref=sr_1_3?crid=UZ86BA3UVMYA&keywords=1tb+sata+3.5+hard+drive&qid=1582495127&sprefix=1tb+sata%2Caps%2C161&sr=8-3 With this Sata adaptor https://www.amazon.co.uk/LEAGY-Parallel-DVD-ROM-Interface-Convert/dp/B07B75Q64F/ref=pd_sbs_147_4/260-7291144-6127719?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07B75Q64F&pd_rd_r=cf4df938-b886-4c79-aef5-39c01aa7ecf1&pd_rd_w=UjTRD&pd_rd_wg=wCccd&pf_rd_p=96cae456-8d7a-4bc1-91c7-9b20b4dfd7c9&pf_rd_r=HSKB83AFMNH4X3KVF2B4&psc=1&refRID=HSKB83AFMNH4X3KVF2B4 With this ATA 133 80 Pin IDE Cable. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Goobay-50670-Cable-Drives-Transfer/dp/B000TND1VI/ref=pd_sbs_147_2/260-7291144-6127719?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B000TND1VI&pd_rd_r=3e57dd4b-7ab9-4452-9c55-d726462db76f&pd_rd_w=G0yqV&pd_rd_wg=c8KO0&pf_rd_p=96cae456-8d7a-4bc1-91c7-9b20b4dfd7c9&pf_rd_r=5M2TA3D5Q09SFV5WZEMG&psc=1&refRID=5M2TA3D5Q09SFV5WZEMG And good ? or can anybody advise me please of anything cheaper / better. Thanks al for looking and helping me.
  11. Hi Team, So i picked up a XBOX, but sadly the DVD drive is destroyed and so is the HDD. The mother board its self works fine. Is there anyway to get this up and running?
  12. Hello everyone. I've asked this question on FB, but would like to verify with this crowd here. I have softmodded an v1.6 using Rocky5 most recent version. I would like to swap to a 2TB SATA drive. I understand this can be done with a hot swap, cloning the original drive with chimp and then formatting with xb partitioner. Is this correct? Why does this work if the bios is supposed to need LBA-48 to see a large drive? Is it because each partition is small enough to not need LBA-48? Thanks in advance.
  13. Hello, i'm trying to finish up this Millennium Falcon mod i'm working on. I soldered a wire to the #39 pin to the negative leg of my led and the other leg of my led to the 12v and the 5v wires on my molex connector and light comes on but never blinks. It just stays on constant What am i doing wrong?

    Hdd Lock

Evening guys, a friend of mine got his xbox fried and gave me a 640 gb hdd sata. The problem is that the hdd is lock. Is there a way to recover this hdd without the xbox it was mounted on?
  15. Hey, I should introduce myself.... I'm Noob sooo... I've modded my xbox (I guess its a softmod, but since I upgraded the hdd to a WD Blue 2TB I guess its a hardmod..) First I followed a tutorial to softmod my xbox to get unleashX, but after that I upgraded my xbox to rocky5's emustation. After downloaded tons of games and different emulators I gained to much balls and deleted wrong files.... nothing too bad, because the emustation still works, but I want to transfer files using my desktop instead of Ftp(filezilla). So I unlocked my hdd using configmagic (something like that) and now Im trying to connect it to my pc. My pc does detect the HDD, but the files won't show up.... I already tried using other programs, such as partybuffalo or xplorer360, but they do not detect any harddrive at all.... So in short: UnleashX to Rocky5 ftp is annoying, so want to directly transfer files Hdd is detected by PC, but doesnt show up Im using a USB HDD adapter and a WD Blue 2TB (images attached) Cheers
  16. I picked up a v1.6 XBOX today and did a Rocky5 1.1.5 softmod (a bit behind; but whatever). When I went to null the HDD key it says it completed and everything looked good. However when I check the System > Settings > System > Xbox info > the HDD still had a non-null HDD key. I then loaded Config magic 1.6.1 application and it reported a Null HDD. What do I trust? I could probably swap in a Nulled HDD, but this is weird. I checked a different XBOX and in the Xbox Info screen it is all zeros. Any idea why the Xbox Info is reporting a value for the key while Config Magic is reporting zeros? which do I trust? Thanks!
  17. Good evening, guys, I need help. Xbox Crystal with aladdin modchip I have a 640 gb wd blue hdd. By inserting the dvd to prepare the hdd and install everything, the partitions are always at zero (see photo). In another xbox always modchip, the partitions are seen, but if I insert or copy some files, at restart they disappear as in the xbox crystal. Partition C 0, Partition F:0, Partirion E:0 HELP!
  18. Hi, I would like to remove my original Western Digital 8 GB IDE HDD and replace it with a modern 120 GB SATA SSD. However, I don’t want to use a modchip or a softmod. My Xbox should stay as original as possible (especially the Dashboard). So I just want to copy all my IDE HDD data 1:1 to the new SSD drive (even no resizing of the partitions). My idea is to install the SSD with an IDE to SATA converter (StarTech with Marvell chip). The 1:1 sector-by-sector copy to the new drive should be done with CloneZilla. Is this possible? I read something about keys and locked drives... Regards, steffZ
  19. Hi guys, After softmodding my xbox with the rocky5 method, it is now time for something new: TSOP. I read a lot of inormation and prepared everything (soldered the points on my ST TSOP 1.0), and decided to go for the Hexen 2018 disc and Evox M8 (F+G) bios). After I succesfully modded my xbox, i would like to unlock the stock hdd. I know that after a TSOP mod you can swap in every blank unlocked hdd. But I can't find what kind of utility I need to use to unlock my original stock hdd..
  20. hi all, visited a mate today who recycles set top boxes, and discovered some interesting info, sky boxes contain seagate 500gb and 1tb(depending on model) he gave me some drives to test and they lock fine, i have tried 5 drives so far hdm built the drive fine and they lock fine. so considering you can get sky boxes free in the uk they may be a source of good drives, they are sata but the adapters seem to work fine, he did say some early boxes used ide drives 250gb and 500gb but any around in 2019 that are still running will be worn out,i know from my own experience that sata drives dont seem to wear as quickly as ide with constant write read rewrite cycles. so i would go for the sata option, and for normal xbox use 500gb or 1tb are big enough, not for a full library granted but then again who likes all games?. we tend to have favourites.
  21. Hello guys I am really stuck and broken 4 xboxes the last week with flashing wrong because i want to know where my problem is. My xbox has the aladdin xt plus 2 modchip in it and it work fine but... when i want to put a new drive in it it wont boot from disc(auto installer, hexen 17 and 19, rocky) The only disc it boots is slayer 2.7 The problem is with an other IDE or Sata drive no one boots up and slayer says the disk 0,0,0,0space The sata adapter is with the 2 capacitors and it has worked on a softmodded xbox with the same 2tb sata drive. I have tryed with different dvd drive, ide cables also the 80pin. Also tryed different bios files, m8, xecuter 2 the other brokes my chip. When i want to hotswap it the hdd clones the slave but when i want to boot it cant from drive or disc. So what is the problem and what can i try next? thanks for youre time.
  22. I`ve X 1.6 Hardmoded with Aladdin Advance 64 BIOS checker say: evox.m8pus.bin stock>1tb(sata) I try HEXEN method but after swapping HDD HEXEN block in "xbox linux" boot screen (red LED) I don`t know adapter non compatible or BIOS (hexen disc work) XBpartitioner 1,1 show this error:(photo) What to do? PS.: Sorry for my English it is not my prime lag
  23. Long story sort. I ordered a replacement 1.6 main board with its matching HDD off of ebay to replace a dead 1 I had. All went well until it was time to softmod. When I try to copy an audio track to the HDD it says "Unable to create new soundtrack. You have reached the maximum 100 soundtracks" I don't see any saved sound track so I don't see how I am over any limits. Is there any way around this? Any other way of hot swap unlocking the HDD. I have only used the hot swap method in the past and don't have any of the games with the exploits like 007 or Splinter Cell and I also don't have a xbox to USB adapter so at this time hot swapping is my only option. thanks
  24. I'm trying all methods of XBOX modding: softmodding with exploit is learned and understood, later steps will be TSOP (v1.2) and modchip (v1.2/v1.6) but for now I decided to replace the original 10GB Seagate HDD with a 80GB 7200rpm Seagate HDD because the original is reporting below 50% health with Acronis Drive Monitor. I went with XBOXHDM 2.2a because I already had a FAT32 flash drive for booting ISOs, so I just extracted the content, added the entries from menu.lst to my menu.lst, copied eeprom.bin to \eeprom folder and extracted v5960 dashboard files from Clean_C_and_E_Files_for_Xbox.7z to \hdm\C. It couldn't be simpler: Boot Slax, run xboxhd2 from command window (phase 2), run xboxhdm to create C/E/F partitions and autocopy the dashboard, lock the HDD with xboxhd2 again, insert HDD in the XBOX. All was OK until I booted the XBOX and was greeted with error 21. A quick Google search indicated it might be related to missing dashboard files, so I checked the C partition content with a quick hotswap, Windows XP and Xplorer360 beta6, and discovered that the files were copied in the 8.3 DOS naming scheme. For example, the "xboxdashdata.185ead00" folder was copied as "xboxda~1.185", the "XBox Book.xtf" file was copied as "xboxbo~1.xtf" and so on. Deleting all files and dropping them into Xplorer360 again solved the naming problem and the XBOX booted correctly. (EDIT: for some strange reason, partition E had duplicated folders: tdata, udata, TDATA and UDATA) So the question is: Why did Slax/QEMU copied the files in 8.3 format?
  25. I have 2 XBOXes v1.2 and v1.6 with Rocky5 softmod v1.1.6. I was messing around with the NKPatcher and nulled the HDD drive key on one of them before backing up the EEPROM and now it boots up to error 05. It seems I need to format it using the hotswap method, xboxhdm v1.9 and a backup of the Dashboard from the C partition, which I don't have. Can I use the files from the other XBOX? EDIT: I'm probably looking at it fro the wrong angle... when using the hotswap, won't I get access to the backed up EEPROM in the E partition? Can it be used to restore the HDD?Or is it better to just format it and start from scratch? This subject is still pretty new to me.
