PrometheOS: A replacement Open-Source OS for Xenium based mods

Confirmed working on an Original Team Xodus chip. After updating to Prometheos and adding the newest version of Xenium Tools, it does detect the chip as it added implementation for the Team Xodus release. So I guess technically it was a hardware issue, but is being addressed. I'm testing the different versions now and will post an update.

Update: While the new Xenium Tools will detect the chip, it still would throw an error during the flashing process. I can confirm that I've now updated to Prometheos 1.0.2 using the older version of Xenium Tools.

I did mention that in my previous post.

You did simply mention to try the old version of Xenium Tools and change the order or XOS updates which I was already using because the new version and MakeMHz installers wasn’t detecting my chip. That’s not what solved the issue and the XOS updates still didn’t work before upgrading to Prometheos.  Don’t try to take credit for that please. The Prometheos devs found the issue and are working to fix it.

I recently hopped into the Prometheos thread here with trouble getting my original Xenium chip updated. I searched all over the web and only found users with the same issue and not one shred of evidence on how to get passed this obstacle, until today. Being that Prometheos is new and most everyone doesn’t run into the xenium tools issue, there was no step by step guide on what to do otherwise. Embarrassingly, it was a fairly easy fix, but risky without having full confirmation and no success stories to go off of. It occurred to me to just rename the files so the old Xenium tools would see them, since it doesn’t allow you to choose your file. I didn’t write these files and do not know the full extent of what they do behind the curtain so I ruled that option out and continued my research in fear of making a brick. I also had other flashers in different folders with backups for each one. In the end, with @Harcroft holding my hand, we got it done. He assured me it was ok to delete all the other files completely and go ahead to rename the Prometheos.bin file to flash.bin (this is also not mentioned in the text files) and put it in the folder with the the old xenium tools. That’s the fix and I just made you read all of that when I could have just told you outright LOL. The previous versions apparently weren’t designed to work with the old Team Xodus chips and this is already being addressed

Not trying to take any credit, was trying to help you.
But, it was the fix, as per your other thread.

To use the older xenium tools as I do, you have to rename the file as flash.bin else it won't even work (assumed you knew), I don't babyfoot each step out for people, just give the direction.

I can see why @sweetdarkdestiny has left. Don't blame him. This place has become riddled with idiocy.
c'est la vie.

Ok, first of all, when the recommendation was made, it was for the XOS update, which still didn’t work. There was no need to rename those files either as they’re already there and ready. So how does that solve a Prometheos upgrade issue?

Secondly, how many people have you seen in the past 15-20 years post problems because they renamed or moved a file that they shouldn’t have? With me not knowing about Prometheos(since it’s fairly new) my brain doesn’t tell me go renaming and moving things. I’d rather proceed with caution until I have confirmation, which I did not get here when reaching out. From you or anyone else.

Lastly, coming back to say, “I told you so”, when you really didn’t, is a big part of why Sweet left. If you knew the solution, then why not actually provide it? On that note, I guess everyone that isn’t a master modder is an idiot to you. What’s the point of the forum if everyone already knows everything? Sorry that you’ve come to a place of idiots. Unreal

*...........................:What Is PrometheOS?:............................*
******************************************************************************
*                                                                            *
* PrometheOS marks a significant evolution in the history of the Xenium *
* Modchip, originally the sole domain of the Xenium OS. For over 18 years,*
* users of this modchip grappled with bugs and limitations, partly due to *
* the absence of open-source code from the original developer. *
*                                                                            *
* In 2019, a notable change occurred with Ryzee119's creation of the *
* OpenXenium - an open-source version of the Xenium hardware. This modern *
* reinterpretation utilized modern available components and a custom CPLD,*
* maintaining compatibility with the existing Xenium OS. However, this *
* compatibility was soon challenged by the discovery of clone protection *
* within the OS, which risked bricking some chips identified as clones. *
*                                                                            *
* The community's response was a mixture of patchwork and innovation. *
* While some were focused on removing security features and fixing bugs, *
* others, under the guise of contributing to open-source, subtly shifted *
* their efforts towards rebranding the OS. This rebranding mainly *
* involved removing all traces of Team Xodus and introducing new logos. *
* Additionally, a tactic assumed by most in the community was the *
* purchase and redirection of the Team Xodus domain to their own site, *
* seemingly used to promote and sell their hardware mods. These actions, *
* rather than advancing the open-source agenda, included adding support *
* for their own hardware or adjusting Terms of Service agreements, *
* diverging from the initial promises of community support and open-source*
*    development.                                                            *
*                                                                            *
* Team Resurgent, in collaboration with Team Cerbios and key members of *
* the Xbox community, initiated discussions about developing a new OS for *
* these modchips. The vision was for an OS with open-source code, enabling*
* community-driven expansion, feature enhancements, and support. *
*                                                                            *
* Thanks to NeMesiS for donating the required hardware (modchips and *
* programmers) and providing his valuable input and feedback, the teams *
* embarked on a journey to code a replacement OS for Xenium-based *
* modchips. This endeavor culminated in the birth of PrometheOS. In its *
* current form, PrometheOS not only mimics the functionality of the *
*    original Xenium OS but is a ground-up open-source development. It       *
* offers enhanced file transfer speeds, skin color customization, and, *
* importantly, room for feature enhancements, bug fixes, and ongoing *
*    improvements.                                                           *
*                                                                            *

* Q: How do I flash PrometheOS onto my Xenium Modchip? *
* A: There are two primary methods to flash PrometheOS OS onto your *
* Xenium Modchip. The simplest way, for a working Xbox with Xenium, is *
* to use the XeniumTools Utility by Ryzee119. This open-source utility *
* allows you to backup and flash directly from your Xbox. Launch *
* XeniumTools, select 'Write a Raw 2MB Flash Dump', choose the *
* PrometheOS .bin file, and flash. After completion, power cycle your *
* console. Alternatively, use an external hardware flasher like a *
* Raspberry Pi. For utility download and detailed instructions, visit *
*       https://github.com/Ryzee119/Xenium-Tools and                         *
*       https://github.com/kooscode/xenium-programmer                        *
*                                                                            *
* Q: Why isn't Xeniumtools detecting my Xenium chip? *
* A: While most Xeniums use AMD or Spansion flash roms there might be *
* some clones versions which don't. Xenium-Tools may not detect these *
* different flash roms. External flashing is recommended at the moment *
* if you have one of these chips. *
*                                                                            *
* Q: How do I report my test results or provide feedback? *
* A: Share your findings on the Xbox-Scene forums or in our Xbox-Scene *
* Discord room. Join the conversation at https://discord.gg/VcdSfajQGK *
*                                                                            *
* Q: Something went wrong with my flash; how do I recover? *
* A: If a flash fails, recovery options are limited. Issues, especially *
* with clone chips or hardware, may require a hardware flasher, like a *
* Raspberry Pi. For detailed recovery steps, visit *

*    Q: Where do I put skins files?                                          *
* A: Place all skins in the skins folder at "C:\PrometheOS\Skins\" on *
*       your Xbox's hard drive.                                              *
*                                                                            *
* Q: Where can I upload or download skins from? *
* A: We have set up a skin repository where you can upload and download *
* skins for PrometheOSs, visit *

PrometheOS is a replacement OS for the Xenium modchip.  It is not a modified Xbox BIOS that runs games/homebrew apps.  It is software to control the modchip and do maintenance operations on the console.

I am aware of what it is and what it does, but I thought it was a Replacement of XBlast OS. Which you know works for every modchip and BIOS.

As for now only xenium based chips are supported, but we plan to add support for other modchips in the near future.

  • 2 weeks later...

Speak of the Devil.

Integrated Elpis HD and Xblast Aladdin/Jafar Support... as well as efficient HDD unlocking. I want to try buying some HDD lots and seeing if I can find any gold.

 Open-source is proving to be quite competitive for not making anybody any money. :)

"Life... Will find a way..."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PrometheOS, the trailblazing custom operating system for Xenium/OpenXenium and Aladdin Chips, has just unveiled its latest version, V1.2.0. This release heralds a significant expansion in compatibility and features, setting a new benchmark in the modding community's capabilities.

What's New in V1.2.0:

  • Expanded Modchip Support: Now includes support for XBlast Aladdin/Jaffar-based modchips, specifically targeting 1MB 49LF080(A) flash chips.

  • Crucial Fixes for Xenium Chips: Addressed and resolved an issue where PrometheOS was not working on some genuine Xenium chips.

  • VSC Unlocking Feature: Introduces the ability to unlock any OEM OG Xbox drive, even without a known HDD key or if it's not paired with the console. This is a significant breakthrough especially when it comes to DLC Preservation of orphaned drives. It can take up to 20+ seconds to complete.

  • HDD Lock/Unlock Efficiency: Improvements in the speed of HDD locking and unlocking.

  • Custom Fan Speed Control: Users can now set custom fan speeds directly within PrometheOS.

  • Additional Audio Options: Adds volume control for background music and sound effects, giving users more customization over their theme.

  • Integration of Elpis HD: For those with Cerbios HD-enabled BIOS, Elpis HD is now integrated into PrometheOS.

  • UI and Navigation Improvements: Upgrades to the default UI colors for both the skin and Web UI, along with enhanced menu navigation that remembers your last position, make for a more streamlined interface.

Community and Collaboration:

  • Welcoming Phantom: The team is excited to introduce Phantom, the newest member of the PrometheOS team. Their fresh perspectives and contributions are eagerly anticipated.

  • Acknowledgment to the Xbox Preservation / XCAT Team: A heartfelt shoutout is extended to these dedicated individuals for their commitment to preserving Xbox DLC. Their efforts are invaluable, and the community is encouraged to support these endeavors using the Xbox Content Archival Tool.

  • Special Thanks to Skye: For her insightful discussions on VSC commands. Her forthcoming write-up on unlocking drives using a PC is highly anticipated.

Looking Forward:

PrometheOS V1.2.0 heralds a significant milestone in Xbox modding, introducing expanded chip support and innovative features within an open-source framework that broadens the community's modding capabilities. This dedication to pioneering open-source development, combined with the continued support and contributions from the community, paves the way for a bright future in Xbox preservation and customization.

Join us in celebrating this major milestone and contribute to the ever-growing legacy of PrometheOS.

I've been testing this for 2 ish weeks as they've added some of these new features.

Here's a video unlocking a factory locked stock orpaned WD HDD with vendor comands.

Here's a video of unlocking a factory locked stock orphaned Seagate slim HDD with vendor commands.

It also works on rubber jacket seagate models, but I didn't have a factory locked (maximum security) HDD to test it on. This did unlock every drive I threw at it.

Because Team Resurgent was still working on fixing issues with older generation Xenium chips, all of the unlocking was done on an Xblast Aladdin modchip I converted myself from a cheap Aladdin XT Plus 2 from China and a 49LF080A from Digikey. Special thanks to Modzville for helping me figuring out the Xblast Aladdin stuff.

I'm impressed at the incremental updates, but floored by the double massive feature drop of other modchip support and Vendor Specific Command orphan HDD unlocking.

Having a weird issue when trying to load Skins. This is my first time downloading PrometheOS and it is v1.2.0.

Followed the direction of placing the skins in the directory C:\PrometheOS\Skins\. I can see the skin files when FTP'ing to the console and I can see the files within file explorer from a dashboard, however PrometheOS can't see them from its menu.

I changed the directory to C:\PrometheOS\Themes\Skins\ as that was the hierarchy within PrometheOS and still no luck, wandering if I've potatoed something here?

I've also deleted the folder, restarted and transferred the files back too. Everything was downloaded through Pandora.

The Drive is changed now. You need to load them to E:\PrometheOS\Skins\ instead of C.

We forgot to change it in the nfo, the nfo will be updated with the next release.

It would have to be very customized and pretty elaborate, wouldn't it? I never even thought of that...

Its prometheos like you know on the xeniums. The reason I compared it with x3 config live is it has the usefull tools in it, like eeprom settings, unlocking HDDs, superb ftp with support to read up to 16tb drives, update/backup/boot from the recovery image (flashbios),...

Even the bank buttons of the bank switch/pro switch and x3cp switches are working with it. If you flash bioses in prometheos, the os does flash them to banks 5-8. You can select these banks with the physical bank switches instead of the prometheos menu if you want.

It does not have the possibility to change the flubber ect like on the real x3 config live.

for the people that not in our discord, a image of the current info on the x3 lcd

So does it replace X3config live on the chip? Or can they be installed alongside each other for the best of both worlds??

It does replace it. Prometheos is also flashed to the first bank of the x3 chip.
