About Me

  1. Hello, Got a v1.1 Xbox today that i wanted to TSOP flash, but it has some issues, before doing anything the console was tested. The hard drive is making some loud whirring sound, but it manages to boot to dash, this will be replaced with a bigger drive. The DVD ROM was locked solid, so after opening the console and the DVD ROM, and giving it a good clean, that is now working again. But when i tested the DVD to see if it ejects, which it does, every eject press the console now appears to soft reboot, i mean it restarts but doesn't power cycle. Anyways i soldered the points on the mobo, and continued to flash which was successful, but the problem still remains with the eject. The console hadn't been opened before today, as far as i remember it didn't reboot on eject when i 1st turned it on to test and was trying to eject the tray. Have tried an alternate power/eject board but no change, also the console boots with no DVD drive connected also with no change, so i am out of ideas. Has anyone experienced this, or know of a fix ? any help is appreciated.
  2. A while ago I removed the clock capacitor from an Xbox v.1.1. Some days ago came the new capacitor I had ordered and I got to install it. Now, since I'm a complete amateur on the soldering thing, I may have damaged the capacitor or the mb, or the soldering job I did isn't good enough, BUT, how long is the date/time expected to last with a same rating capacitor? I never actually used a new Xbox and I don't know. My first results show that I must have messed up the installation. As far as I can tell I put it in the same place where I removed the old one (there was a leftover capacitor leg in one of the holes) and I used the correct polarity (the negative of the capacitor to the white side of the board's schematic). The capacitor I used is the one in the picture below. Thank you!
  3. I've been able to customize just about everything in XMBC4gamers, I have a softmodded xbox original, and I noticed in the profile select screen, where I can either select manage profiles, or select a profile with my xbox games or emulators. The profile select screen is what boots up for me right away when I turn on the xbox, so the first thing I see is like crummy boxes and a baby blue background. Is there any sort of dark mode? I don't need a crazy skin, I just want to change the colors, is there anyway to change a line of code in a file to change it? Does anyone know how to contact the creators to ask? This would be the icing on the cake for me after setting up a sweet system Thanks!
  4. Since buying the classic back in 2001 & modding it, then three more in 2004 & modding those also, this week i decided to crack them all open and get them back up together after many, many years of service.... untouched! The upgraded HDD's are getting noisy & the rom trays stopped working way back when, so i would just ftp games across. I have so far stripped & cleaned them thoroughly, desoldered the clock cap in two and fixed the rom draw trays in all consoles. ... however i need to advice on parts! At least one of the rom drives are failing to read discs so i want to replace the laser, as tweaking the potentiometer would be only be a temp fix imo. Where would be the place to go to buy * Replacement lasers * Timer caps ( this is what im considering atm) 5.5v/1F https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283213698254?hash=item41f0da14ce:g:exAAAOSw8-lccKry * Belts, as one of those is looking a little warped ? I found some stuff over at Aliexpress (modchips) but unsure about the rest Giving back>> I found that over time the case screws had become sloppy and would not tighten even though the top screw case standoff's were not cracked. which is the usual case. The internals of them are basically just bored out to much. To fix, i cut the end off a Cable tie (Zip tie) to match the length of the stand off and inserted it. Thats it, all tightened up as should be at the cost and ease of nothing Hope this help someone.
  5. Hello, I bought an OG v1.1 recently and worked just fine, it came with an Aladdin (I don't know what model, but assume is an old one). The chip doesn't worked so I softmodded and left the chip in its place. After a few weeks playing the xbox simply shutdown in the middle of a Mario Party gameplay and when try to turn it on it tried to boot from the modchip (I think it activates holding the power button for a few seconds). I though it was the CPU overheating, so increase the fan potency (x3), replace the thermal paste and remove the clock capacitor finding little to no corrosion in the board but quite a few components rusted, which I cleaned. When I tried to play again it was even worse, it shutdown more often than before and when I turn it off the thing turn on again trying to boot from the modchip. Then I check for trace corrosion and there was nothing visible, but made the bypass for the 4 traces either, nothing new happened. Maybe the modchip was the problem, right? Well, no. After removing it, the only difference was that it booted normally. Then I remembered that the freaking fan was on x3, and put it back to x1, since then no more unexpected turn offs or ons, it works as good as before. I came here to ask the experts: this makes any sense at all?
  6. I had a softmodded xbox back in 04/05. A friend had done it for me and i have many finf memoies of it. Buy i had no idea what it was actually capeable of. Now i have an og xbox that i just picked up and am looking to get the most out of as i can through an extended period of time.
  7. Thank you in advance for any and all help provided, So I installed a X3 chip along with the LCD face plate that has USB on my v1.0 Xbox (not windbond/Sharp). I managed to flash bios to the chip but I am unsure of how to understand the bank switches. Bios checker always show unknown bios. I get Evox Bios to load when all 4 switches lights are on. I get X3 Bios to load when switch # 2 lights is on. Every other switch combination my Xbox just powers cycles on/off 3 times with power button flashing before it shuts down. I can't even get to the flash Bios menu anymore. So my questions are.... Question 1: On the face plate are my switches are ON if they light up or are they OFF if no light is on! Is this correct? I don't see the on/off wording on it. Question 2: How do I determine where to flash a Bios? 256k/512k/1MB/2MB? Question 3: The graph description below shows what bank you are on depending on the switch combination, yes? 256k Bank Bank 1: on on on on Bank 2: off on on on Bank 3: on off on on Bank 4: off off on on Bank 5: on on off on Bank 6: off on off on Bank 7: on off off on Bank 8: off off off on 512k Bank Bank 12: on on on off Bank 34: off on on off Bank 56: on off on off Bank 78: off off on off 1MB Bank Bank 1234: on on off off Bank 5678: off on off off 2MB Bank Bank 12345678: off off off off
  8. Hi! I just got an 1.6 xbox with unleash x and the game installed on the hdd but when I launch the game there's no text on the menus and no dialogue, the characters just stay still until skip the cutscene then the game works fine. I've tried downloading a raw iso redump and convert it to xiso and extract the files to the hdd but I get the same issues. does anybody else has this problem?
  9. Hi! I have a softmoded xbox with dualboot (when i click the power button it boots UnleashX, but when the DVD drive is opened - xbmc4xbox). So i want xbmc to be my main dashboard. UnleashX is located in C:/Dashboard, while XBMC is in E:/Alt Dashboard (it's here, so i could boot it, if the dvd drive is opened). Should i temporarily install EvoX and then swap the UnleashX and XBMC directories (xbmc will go in C:/Dashboard and UnleashX - in E:/Alt Dashboard) using the build-in file manager or FileZilla? Or there is some other way to do this?
  10. So I'm repairing my motherboard after the dvd drive kept ejecting. Unfortunately my mb is a victim of that super capacitor. I removed and cleaned the board however the nearest transistor and resistor to the right corroded off. I managed to solder the transistor back on but I can't find the resistor. Anyone know what the value of that resistor? I tested the traces, so all of that looks good, so I'm guessing that resistor is the trouble maker.
  11. Hello everyone, Yesterday i was trying to repair my Xbox (wich is a 1.4/1.5, manifactured in 2003), i removed the clock capacitor and everything was fine (i dont care to put the date every time i plug it in) but from point blank it shut down and never came back. when i plug it in it FRAGs and i'm not getting out of this. This is my motherboard : https://imgur.com/a/ZycVKLW i have a modchip installed (not by me, but by someone in the early 2000s), but not a softmod as my xbox read only backups in DVD as far as i know. i made a post on reddit but i had no luck. i tried connecting my HDD to a PC with an adapter and it get recognized by the Devidce Manager but xboxhdm23usb and xplorer360 doesn't seem to detect it and i cant figure out why. i don't care to lose my data, but i just want my xbox back up and running, any suggestion is welcome, but i don't have a EEPROM reader nor a backup and neither a pc with serial port. help me getting this bad boy back to life
  12. Hello. 1- I installed for the first time an Alladin xt Plus2. When I just plug my Xbox with the Power cable the red light on the chip immediately turns on. Shouldn't turn only when I turn on the Xbox? I am afraid I did smth wrong. The chip works fine anyways. It appears the EVOX logo. 2- Is it normal xbox heats up more than the usual before I installed the chip? The heat sink kinda burns after the chip installation. I changed for a new 250gb hdd. Is that the reason for the heat problem? Should I change the cable for an 80 pins to don't heat up a lot? Thanks.
  13. When downloading any packages to your computer there is still a default .xbe in them. and all Xbox apps/games have a default.xbe they have to or you cannot ever launch anything Instead of a .exe which the computer reads for launching programs and apps, the xbox has a .XBE XBOX Executable. The XB stands for XBOX and the E stands for executable. Anyway I downloaded the Gamers - Emustation Artwork Stuff from the following link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1a3ZaFTuuu5L7lDbnOjmA5tlHhrwpWFKC?usp=sharing Which is the link found in this topic: I am now going to copy and paste an exact quote from the Topic Creator: Yet there isn't a single default.xbe anywhere in that package which means there is no possible way to run the installer at all. Furthermore the xbox reads the following extensions for images png - jpg - tbn - bmp (The proper dashboard still has to be used as some dashboards cannot read certain image files.) Anyway after looking through the package, there isn't any proper file extensions for the xbox to read either. Someone needs to create the proper picture formats so the dashboards can read it and say what dashboard those pictures go with, place those pics in the properly named folder, .rar that folder, and uploaded it. All someone needs to do then is download it, unpack the .rar file, and copy the folder that has all the pictures in it, onto the proper section of the xbox. Right now there isn't even a way to run any of this off a disk or the HDD. it's a complete shit show with no clear simple easy instructions. I shouldn't have to still connect the xbox to the net to download what I already have just to get it to run. This whole thing is a major and complex mess.
  14. I have a startech S-video adapter for my CRT tv. I want to enable the higher resolutions (480p etc) in xbmc but don't want to buy any HD av pack. Is there any specific pin inside the standard AV cable's male plug where I can move the composite video wire to do this? I mean, I imagine it would be whichever one corresponds to S-video or component on the HD AV pack. This probably sounds a little ignorant but I've never done AV mods.
  15. For the last year or two I've been working on reversing some of the data structures that have been left unresearched or incomplete by the old scene, not to such a hardcore degree as I would honestly like but off and on when I have the time. This spans from what most people have seen me put out like the Xbox LIVE account stuff but I also have an interest in FATX16/32 structuring, the various configuration/datastore sectors at the beginning of the Xbox hard drive, the 1BL/FBL/2BL/BIOS image structures and data packing, XBE header/certificate data, security, and structuring, and the EEPROM data and structuring - the fundamental data types that make up the Xbox Today I completed the EEPROM data structure - well I say "completed" but there are still some things like flags, bitpacking, and a single unlabeled 16bit value to truly finish up all the info on the data handling side of things - however, structurally I have mapped out all the EEPROM data including the notorious hardware section as well as reversing the XConfigChecksum into something much more legible, portable, and simply more correct than what's been sitting on the XboxLinux/XboxDev wiki's for the last decade and a half I didn't really feel posting something like this on Reddit would be the way to go, the constant Twitter-feed like nature of threads just buries information and I have always preferred forums for their organization - and besides, forums are where I started in modding and forums are what I ran/helped run for many years of my modding life Anyway to my point, if you're interested in the structure and/or (partial for now) handling of EEPROM data then I've posted all the info on my GitHub project. This information can be used to parse, edit, or build an EEPROM image from scratch for any revision of the Xbox (including 1.6 and 1.6b models). I'll likely make a tool for people to create/edit EEPROM images at some point but I've got a couple Xbox projects I've been working on for a while and would like to finish at least one of those before starting another and I'll stuff all this structuring information into a table on the project page soon or maybe edit the XboxDev wiki so it's easier for non-programming people to view and understand at a glance Thanks for reading (also, posting this in the general forum wasn't my first choice but this doesn't really fit into the topic of homebrew - it's more so R&D) This paragraph has nothing to do with the subject of my post but I just wanted to say something personal here. I post this kind of information and put out these various tools and answer these questions that most people don't have an answer to for the sole purpose of bettering or further educating and simply just passing on information I know to the few left in original Xbox scene and even though I might come off as such it's never really been an ego or "clout" thing for me with the original Xbox, I've owned an original Xbox since 2001 and it's purely a passion thing. All I'm really after with this hobby of research and modding of the Xbox is to leave the scene with correct information or at least as correct as I'm able to comprehend and express to others, which I'm sure the old members of the early scene tried to do as well. The reason the original Xbox still lives on is because of sites like this and the handful of people that still hold onto their interest of the original Xbox or their passion of tinkering. Some of you may know my username and others may not, I've seen people mention me as this sort of Xbox "guru" or "expert" and I don't know if I come across as such but I can say, there are many things I don't know, many things I feel I'll never know, and a lot of times I feel like I barely know anything but I know objectively this isn't entirely true because there's a lot I know about the Xbox (and Xbox 360 for that matter) and yet it doesn't stop me from feeling dumb much of the time. Everything I know about computers, the Xbox/Xbox 360, data, structuring, programming, etc. is all self-taught and if you want to learn the type of stuff I know then you absolutely can teach yourself these things and it doesn't necessarily need to be on the software side of things, if you want to know hardware then you can teach yourself that as well - push yourself to learn, you are your best teacher. If you're part of the Xbox scene, whether you're a complete noob or have been around forever, whether we've had good/bad interactions in the past or maybe in the future, know that I appreciate you regardless of your knowledge or "status" and know that I hold no negative feelings towards anyone left in this scene and I probably never will. Not entirely sure why I just wrote this rant but hopefully no one minds, I'm just glad I'm not alone in this hobby of playing around with a 20 year old outdated machine
  16. hello all, been playing xbox since it came out and still think it is an awesome console. been a member of the fb group for a while but haven't gotten around to getting on here until now. I am selling my gaming collection and have a whole stack of games, controllers, and consoles that need to stop collecting dust in my house. I am getting ready to move and I am sure we all know how heavy the darn console is. Anyways, I will post a thread with all of what I got once I get validated and all that. Glad this forum exists!
  17. Here's how it happened I end up using a toothbrush to clean my xbox cause I'm too stupid and the rubberbelt came off and now I'm having trouble here getting it on again anyway to do this without a screwdriver at all I hate to waste my money on a whole new one
  18. I've softmodded my first xbox and I upgraded the HDD and I've heard about the wonders of Emulators, Homebrew ect ect, now I'm wondering where do I download emulators lets say for the N64 or Sega Genesis? All help is appreciated.
  19. Hi Everyone! I'm Edge, I've been involved in various console scenes since 2001. I was a previous member on X-S and have to say OGX is the next incarnation with a wonderful sense of community, helpful users and great information. I'm honored to be here. I've been involved in a number of "preservation" scenes including Saturn, DC, and Gamecube and have done hobbyist development on a number of systems. Like many real life pulled me away from consoles, I had sold many of my modded consoles. My kiddo has gotten old enough now to take an interest in "retro" (retro to her at least haha) gaming so it rekindled my interest and now I'm building "complete" consoles for each generation (catered game collections with all DLC and patches all playable from a console). I recently got a mystery eBay box with lots of classic XBox items that got me started on the xbox path again and so here I am, needing some assistance and already getting some great help and finding great materials. Thanks for keeping the OG Xbox torch going!
  20. So I recently learned a valuable lesson about TSOP flashing when I flashed my 1.0 with iND-BiOS.Beta.Feb-11-05.67.bfm.bin rather than the non-BFM version of the bios. I was wondering what the practical purpose of the BFM (Boot from Media) bios is, and how one would even use it? I'm assuming it is a BIOS that something can load AFTER the Xbox as already booted and initialized all hardware?
  21. I got a job lot recently of some consoles - and all of them have buggered Thomson drives I've tried adjusting pots, tried booting multiple burnt copies of HeXen and OGXBOXInstaller etc. but all seem to just hang on the Linux screen. Any suggestions for what can be done? Can a HDD be setup outside the console? I have FATXplorer - and I know Eaton was looking at adding more support for the OG Xboxes however I think these are all still in beta. Cheers guys
  22. First of all, thank you dear community for the oportunity to be a part of something good! I have a strange problem, have xbox 1.4 with aladdin XS MODCHIP, an older modchip ,but nonetheless it is working, As i want to upgrade to larger HDD, i pot-ed thomson drive, because it was failing, i put the 80 gb hdd, but i get error 13 and/or 16, the problem is that hexen or slayers cant read dvd from the first try,and always it can read from the second, third, etc. Also reads backups and reads hexen and slayers from retail HDD. Orange light is ok,evox sign is in the left-upper corner,it tries to read dvd hexen, but gets me to error 13 or 16 (this is only when i put blank HDD instead of the retail one)? DVD TRIES TO SPIN 2-3 TIMES, BUT NO BOOT TO HEXEN OR SLAYERS DISC,THEN ERRORS FOR MISSSING DASHBOARD Is there any solution to this?would appreciate very much,i could provide any information needed, THANKS IN ADVANCE
  23. My Names Kaan, I am a modding enthuiast and have modded things from Xbox's to Ps3, Psp's, Wii's. Really enjoy doing it. Last night I successfully Tsop'd my first OG 1.1 Xbox, Flashed it with Xecutor 2 Bios using x2.5035.bin file with Xblast OS. Upgraded the Hardrive to a 2tb and am in the Process of transfering the Entire library excluding Sports and Maybe Disney games. Transfering Coinops and Ninja Massive ( not sure if both are really needed ) Wondering if there's anything thats a must I can stick on this thing apart from what i've mentioned. Maybe some useful tools?
  24. 1.0-1.4 ogxbox mainboard wanted in the uk preferably with the hdd key or better still a print out of xbox info, please. pm me if you are selling. thanks, aly.
  25. Hi all, I've been googling and searching and not finding an answer to this. I fired up my Xbox today (first time in a while) and got a notification that a new version was available. I went into the settings, updated the URL downloader and then did the XBMC4Gamers update. After a bit, I got a message that "autoexec.py" or something like that failed. Now I'm stuck at a screen that says XBMC Fatal Error: No suitable skin version found (see screenshot) I am able to FTP into the xbox just fine. I did find some mention of a guisettings.xml file but I can't seem to find where it might be and where I can get a replacement for it (if that's even the problem) My default dash is/was xbmc4gamers, BTW. I would appreciate any help!
