About Me

  1. Hello, i recently found my old xbox again and i noticed that when i want to go into the official dashboard i get error code 13 and it prevents me to enter it. everything else works but the problem is i want to change my system language and audio settings and it seems it is only possible via the og dashboard. anyone able to help me out? i found a bunch of compilation discs but it seems they are only for softmodded consoles. thanks in advance!
  2. So i kind of excited to finally have it and want to ask if there is anything else i need to get this running. i have the little board for my xbox so in theory i should be good to go but i wanna make sure i ask those more experienced then me so i don't mess up.
  3. So i have a 1.6 or 1.6b xbox and i ordered a mod chip to try modding it. i see every time someone mods an xbox that have this board that they use with it. I don't have that board and want to ask if its possible to mod it without it.
  4. Anyone have a strong opinion on which they prefer and why? I went with the softmod, but what are the pro's / con's of this compared to other methods? Especially modchips.
  5. I'm talking about the chip itself, the one in the green circle in the picture below. Not the modchip as a whole. I'm a bit curious: The modchip is installed in the Xbox but the BIOS flash failed. (The one I have in my Xbox is soldered, not put it with a pin-header) i) Since it's socketed, could I, theoretically, insert a new modchip there when the Xbox is turned off, and it should work? ii) If I start the Xbox with the working chip, use HeXEn to go to the flasher program and before I start the procedure, I take out the good chip and change it with the badly flashed and then continue with the flashing, would it flash it correctly? Assuming it will not just burn the chips when I take them out-in? Has anyone tried something like that? YOLO?
  6. So i opened my V1.0 Xbox to do some cleanup and was reading about TSOP, so i got the motherboard out and saw this. The Xbox boots into the Unleash X dashboard and there are no logos or other signs of a modification. The Xbox is softmodded i think, with a 160Gb HDD. I wonder what functions i can activate with the modchip and know for sure if it's working? It seems it's not doing anything. Thanks.
  7. I recently came across a four OG Xboxes in a cupboard. One of them was literally brand new... until yesterday For some strange reason, I decided to softmod the box and install a larger HDD, so I now have a softmodded 1.6 xbox with a 2TB drive, with 8 hours of uptime from new. I don't know what I was thinking when I did it, but the empty bottle of Hennessey probably explains it. Anyway, I've done it. It's no longer a spanking new old xbox. It's not a softmodded xbox, with 8 hours of use, so... is it worth fitting a chip, or should I just go and hang my head in shame? (yeah, WTF was I thinking!) Your thoughts? (expletives welcomed, accepted and appreciated).
  8. Does someone have stock .BINs files of the bios for the DuoX 3 modchip? Both banks please. Would like to return it to stock. (Image source= https://www.nh-game.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=92)
  9. I got an 1.6 xbox softmoded and I want to install an aladdin chip. Is there any possibility Softmod interfeer with modchip? Am I good to do it?
  10. Hey all, I recently ordered a 1.0 motherboard and hdd off of ebay and went to mod it. Before modding, I booted them up and found them to be working properly. The clock cap was leaking bad so I replaced that. I soldered up the pin header to the LPC, connected a wire to the D0 pad and routed that to the Open Xenium I have, and went to boot it up. I'm greeted with a solid red LED on the modchip, and the xbox booting up into the normal bios. Attempting to boot into XeniumOS by pressing the eject button yields the same results. This modchip did originally come out of a 1.6, flashed with Evox M8+ 1.6. Just to rule out the modchip going bad on me, I wired it back up into the 1.6 and it booted perfectly. I threw an Aladdin chip, that's also flashed with Evox M8+ 1.6, into the 1.0 also, and it will not boot into custom bios either. I've reflowed my joints multiple times, and my D0 solder job is good (I believe lol), so I'm really not sure what's going on. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. LPC solder joints have been reflowed like 4 times so they look bad lol, forgive me.
  11. Hello Together, I bought an xbox today and planned to do a softmod. When opening the console to remove the clock capacitor, I noticed that a modchip is already installed. Unfortunately, I can't find any information about this chip. Can you help me further? Can I just ignore the chip or should I pay attention to something? Is it possible to simply install a SoftMod ! Thank you for your help !
  12. First of all, thank you dear community for the oportunity to be a part of something good! I have a strange problem, have xbox 1.4 with aladdin XS MODCHIP, an older modchip ,but nonetheless it is working, As i want to upgrade to larger HDD, i pot-ed thomson drive, because it was failing, i put the 80 gb hdd, but i get error 13 and/or 16, the problem is that hexen or slayers cant read dvd from the first try,and always it can read from the second, third, etc. Also reads backups and reads hexen and slayers from retail HDD. Orange light is ok,evox sign is in the left-upper corner,it tries to read dvd hexen, but gets me to error 13 or 16 (this is only when i put blank HDD instead of the retail one)? DVD TRIES TO SPIN 2-3 TIMES, BUT NO BOOT TO HEXEN OR SLAYERS DISC,THEN ERRORS FOR MISSSING DASHBOARD Is there any solution to this?would appreciate very much,i could provide any information needed, THANKS IN ADVANCE
  13. Hey guys, I just found this forum googling for an instruction for my modchip. Probably 14 years ago i installed this modchip and it worked fine for years. A few years ago after i moved i wanted to use my xbox again and it dind't work at all. So today I atemped another try. I reconed a loose cable which supposedly needed to be connectet to ground, which i did. Now the Xbox does boot the original bios. I can see my copied music and game saves. Trying to start it with pressing the power button for 2 seconds sometime leeds to atempt to start in whatever bios is installed on the modchip, but it restarts in the original bios. Nevertheless the LED on the modchip does light up on start. Do you have an idea how to get it to boot up with the modchip or a procedure to test if the modchip itself is actually working? Maybe you can point me to thread i missed.
  14. Hi, just picked up another xbox seeing as my last one went t*** up after a tsop bio flash. It's been opened already and upon inspection I found this. Can anyone identify? Tnx
  15. Hi all, sadly the Xecuter X3 BIOS User's Manual has been removed from http://x3.bustedchain.com/ and from the team executer site. Does anyone have it saved as a complete webpage that I could go get a copy of? Would be most obliged if so thanks! Or does anyone know of any mirror still hosting these pages? Cheers!
  16. Hi modding noob and first time poster here..just need some help with the IGR function on this xbox 1.6 I bought used. Everytime I try to use the button combination for IGR the console goes back to the logo then the screen blanks out. I would then need to do a hardboot to get back to the dash. Another thing I noticed is I need to hold the power button for at least 2 seconds to get the chip to load the custom bios or else it would just give out an error code. Plus for some strange reason the chip isn't flashable according to evox, though I know these aladdin chips should be flashable? I'm pretty sure this has something to do with the modchip probably not wired correctly, so if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated. 136470232_800537637170333_6562823261258646262_n.mp4
  17. Hi everyone. Recently I've been watching some ModernVintageGamer videos on YouTube and really wanted to get out of the drawer my old modchipped Xbox. It wasn t booting anymore because of a dvd reader failure(error 11 and 12) so I got a used xbox for spare parts off eBay,got the dvd player out of it and put it in my Xbox. The Xbox boots but it won't read even original disks. My question is how do I understand what modchip is installed? Can I run any sort of homebrew via USB and upgrade my HDD ? Thanks in advance.
  18. So i have got an xbox revision 1.0 for parts. Inside the motherboard was pretty much immaculate with non-leaked clock cap. Sadly the xbox just FRAGged. I did lots of troubleshooting including dumping the eeprom with raspberry pi, testing it with different psu or trying the TSOP bank split trick for coma console. I thought, that the TSOP must be faulty so i ordered aladdin xt. However the holes on 1.0 are filled with solder and hard to clean up. In the end, i soldered each leg of the pinheader individually. It looks ugly, but there are at least pretty wet solder joints and modchips do fit in it. Sadly it still frags. Images: I have: 1. Grounded the bottom d0 point 2. Grounded BT on the aladdin 3. Tested the aladdin in my 1.6 and then reflashing it with indbios 4. Replaced a R7D4 resistor i accidentally desoldered I also remember, there was possibly a short at Q7R1 part. I fixed it, but two pins next to each other are still shorted according to multimeter. The two pins are those closest to the Q in the Q7R1 marking (left down side on the bottom side picture)
  19. Hi all I was playing Black earlier (great game) and left it for a while, came back and it was frozen. Not too surprised. So a couple of restarts later and it's just getting worse. To the point where I can only get into XBMC for a minute or two, but can't launch a game without it freezing. At this point I can still hold the white button and get into the X3 boot menu. The power supply looks in a bad way, and I have an identical model lying around, so I swap it out and - no dice, pretty much the same thing as before. Try changing the hard drive: Acts up a lot, get one or two boots out of it before i'm back to square one again. Notice I can still boot into that blue screen where you can flash stuff, I figured maybe my BIOS had gone bad with all the freezes and restarts. Drop a new bios into a folder named C:/BIOS. Load back into the blue screen and manage to start flashing, gets about 3/4s of the way through and it just freezes again. At this point it's completely fucked, just fragging, occasionally it gets to the "X" BIOS screen. Absolutely heartbroken at this, it belonged to a friend of a friend who died in 2005 in a motorcycle accident. If anyone has any idea what could be up with it i'm all open to ideas or paying for repairs (UK) if someone really knows what they're doing. I really don't get it, I pretty much ruled out the HDD, i don't THINK it's the PSU since i replaced it and same again. Just don't know what's up with it. Won't boot into a Hexen 2019 disc I made either. Please help!!!!
  20. Hi, I just got a Xbox for 10€ (my second one ). It is modded and has this chip. Does anyone know what it is? Is it good, bad? Thanks!
  21. Hey everyone. I’m looking for a Duo X2 mod chip so I can bypass the BIOS on my debug unit. I’ve been researching the info in the forums and believe this is what I need to successfully boot my Debug and run the XDK recovery disc. The icing on the cake would be to find a Duo with the debug BIOS already flashed on It
  22. I had xodus matrix on my ogxbox, and the original IDE HDD went bad, so I got my self 120gb SATA SSD harddrive, 80pin cable, IDE-SATA adapter. I decided to remove the chip when I removed the clock capacitor and reinstall it. I installed the new SATA HD with the adapter and I try to boot-up I don't get xodus matrix Bios at the bottom of the screen, and Hexen 2020 does not load. I am not sure if I need to re-program the chip and reload the Bios (which I no longer have) again. I still got the programmer board, and the loader winLPC tool...any advice what/where I get a BIOS to move forward and make sure it is not a modchip issue
  23. Hello all. I'm a new member of the forum and I have been playing around with the OG XBOx for a couple of years now. I never owned an XBOX before so my knowledge of the history is relatively limited. I do enjoy the versatility of the original XBOX, and I am amazed by the huge community and custom stuff that exists out there. Some of the machines I acquire (~40%) come with the modchip installed, but still have the original HDD. In the past, I removed the modchip because I could not find any info about it, and proceeded with a softmod, disk upgrade and so on. However, after I discovered this forum, I am having second thoughts and I am thinking maybe it is better to keep the modchip and follwo a differen approach. So, the question is, if there's an advanctage of the old modchips (probable Alladin II, I think) versus the more recent softmods. thank you very much in advance! Michalis
  24. I have a xbox 1.0 here that fragged the day I got it. I thought "oh HDD probably died I'll just install a modchip". Well after installing said modchip I'm still met with 3 power cycles and the red and green lights with no error codes. Ive checked my soldering, checked that D0 is grounded, checked all caps, I cleaned the board after removing the clock cap, inspected traces for any signs of trace rot. Are there any caps that could go that just wouldn't show any sign of swelling or leaking that could cause issues?
  25. I could use some guidance here as I'm feeling rather dumb. I see plenty of forum posts about how you can simply boot up an Xbox with a modchip (D0 grounded), swap modchips, and flash the 2nd modchip as a means of fixing a bad flash. I'm trying to do this with a Duo X2 Lite chip that has a bad bios flash on it and every time I go to flash it, the app I'm using says "flash write protected" or something similar. Basically, the end result is that it can't flash the Duo modchip that I swap in. I've tried several times using different timings and different flashing apps (chimp vs evolutionx). Is there some obvious step I'm missing here? Should I be booting from a disc (hexen)? Loading into a special/BFM bios first? D0 is grounded to a screw mount. I'm sure it's booting from LPC. I'm booting with an OpenXenium, then swapping in an X2 Duo Lite (bad bios flash). I flashed a debug BIOS onto it first to use on my DVT4 kit, then later I flashed Yoshihiro's debug bios (which I found out is not actually not meant for debug/dvt consoles). I then used the 5849_Recovery disc to try and flash the modchip back to the official debug bios, but that bios is 1MB in size (2 copies of the identical 512KB debug BIOS), whereas the Duo X2 Lite can only hold a 512KB BIOS. So I guess it failed part way through? I have other modchips, but they either aren't compatible with the MCPX2 found in dev/debug Xboxes or aren't big enough to hold the 512KB debug BIOS. I'm basically booting with OpenXenium, then getting to my dashboard (XBMC), then loading Chimp. If I swap the chips prior to Chimp starting, Chimp just fails to start. The Xbox just freezes on a black screen. If I swap the chips after Chimp loads, it says "flash not writable" (or similar message). Same experience with evolutionx. The BT point is soldered on the Duo X2 if that matters (to enable always-on mode). Any tips on what I'm doing wrong or steps to try? Is my X2 Duo just screwed? Should I be using a different modchip other than OpenXenium on first-boot for some reason? By the way, the whole reason I want to flash this Duo X2 is to get my DVT4 kit back up and running. It has a bad TSOP flash (came to me like that). I might skip all this and focus on figuring out how to fix the TSOP, since using the Duo is just a bandaid fix anyways. I've already tried splitting the TSOP and that didn't help so I'm not sure what to do next other than desolder the tsop and program is externally... and I don't have a hot-air rework station anymore, nor a programmer.
