  1. >Easy XDK Installer V1.3.1< Collaboration between SweetDarkDestiny & Bowlsnapper ------------------------------------------------------------- This is an easy way to turn your retail console into a debug kit. There are two main options: 1. Install the XDK dashboard as an "app", meaning that you will have the option to load the dash as an app which will be marked "XDK Launcher" in your apps list. This will boot the dash by booting a Debug version of Cerbios through PBL, which forces the load of the XDK dashboard. 2 "Standalone mode" wipes your C and E partitions and turns the console into a full-on debug kit. The installer also provides the means to flash a debug enabled Cerbios bios through this option. This should cover most case uses. However I will add features and modify the installer over time as I receive feedback. Much credit for this installer goes to sweetdarkdestiny. We both discussed this as an installer and its likely usage/features and this was the result. I am sure that more will come along as time goes on. I am open to suggestions, and please offer them! Also included is every single piece of software imaginable on the PC side. Everything from Windows XP itself, to Visual Studio 2003, to the XDK installer, and of course, the VMWare image linked below. The XDK version numbers are a lie. 5849.16 is the latest version of the XDK. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Installer Links: Fichier: https://1fichier.com/dir/4vwEvoBS Mega: https://mega.nz/file/Judz2bSZ#Ow4i6L__3aTHTqAMwGZHB3PX1rzDydvb2Imc1S0-glM VMWare XDK Image: https://1fichier.com/?kkyhkgx1cwi8oawhy4zy -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.3.0. Changelog: - Changed the skin. - Changed the structure of folders and XBE files. - Added MD5 checksums for the ISO/EXE files to the installer. - Added the option to boot into retail mode from the XDK-Dash through PBL as app. This is however not for the App Mode! Would serve no purpose. Only if you have standalone mode XDK installed! - Added some visuals like covers, videos and such... - Added a repair options for each partition for app & standalone mode. - Added the option to re-flash the Debug bioses. - Added the option to copy each of the PC disc's one by one. - Added a Back to Retail option for the Standalone Mode. - Added an XDK Uninstall option for the Application Mode. - Added a copy of the flashable bioses to the root of the drive so you can use it to flash SmartXX, OpenXenium, Xenium, XChanger etc. chips right of the disc. With 1.3.1: Fixed a bug that was causing the disc to crash in Xemu in some instances.

  4. Hello, it's me again, now bringing the port of Sonic CD to the Original Xbox. For it to work, you need to place the game assets in the same folder as the .xbe. There is more information on the github page. The next Retro Engine ports (v4 and v5) should take a little longer to come out, as I need to rest a little and focus on other points in my personal life, but I promise it won't take long to return with the ports. https://github.com/danielgpinheiro/RSDKv3-xbox

  5. That part really sucks. I've recently been cataloging and digitally archiving all my old family photos (going back to the 60's). There's thousands. And digitizing VHS tapes. I couldn't imagine losing all that stuff. Sorry for your loss of this stuff. I'm sure there's other folks, but the 1st name that pops into my head for getting a new HDMI-kitted Xbox would be @ModzvilleUSA (https://twitter.com/modzvilleusa) Just FYI, there's about to be two new options for internal/digital HDMI mods. OXHD (by Ryzee and Harcroft) and an HDMI project being worked on by Nemesis. Both are close to being done. Point being- if you wait a bit you'll have more options beyond MakeMHZ to choose from.

  6. Its a full set in that it has at least one version of every game released. If I had included all the foreign language games then I would of had MANY complaints saying the exact opposite of what you said. I did contemplate adding them but as the VAST MAJORITY of users would prefer not to have them I decided against it. A lot of PAL releases contain multi language anyway. Plus as @Dempsey_86 says there was usually some form of censorship IF a German release was made. Better to have the main PAL release every time imo if you must insist on not having the NTSC version. Also consider the fact that many German, French etc people also do speak and read English very well as a second language. That is correct however I did add a couple of the alternate releases from the Repackinator Alt database, but only as I already had the files downloaded for personal use.

  7. Thank you for all of your input, I learned a lot. I went to my local game store and was able to pick up an OEM controller and it worked :). I felt like I was going crazy and running out of ideas, so exciting to see that cerbios start up after a successful flash

  9. When I thought about the idea of starting ports for the Original Xbox, I had (and still have) the desire to port the decompilation of Sonic Mania (RSDKv5), but I saw that this would require an experience in ports that I don't have (yet). So I decided to go in baby steps, to gain experience, so I studied and made my first port for the Xbox, Celeste Classic (https://github.com/danielgpinheiro/ccleste-xbox) After this port done, where I learned a lot, I'm starting a series of Retro Engine ports, which will start from version 1 (which runs Sonic Nexus), next version 3 (Sonic CD 2011), version 4 (Sonic 1 and 2 2013), and version 5 (which runs Sonic Mania). The first port of this series is complete, which is the RSDKv1 for the Xbox, which runs the Sonic Nexus fan game. 10. We were working on some tools to support game development and was given this by Microsoft, but never ended up needing it. Guess they never asked for it back, dev group no longer exists, and it was put in a pile of old desks, filing cabinets, and computers. We were sorting everything and this was about to be put in a pile of old PC's that we were literally going to pay a company to properly e-waste but I pulled it out. I paid about $100 for a few things including this in an employee auction. I think we put everything we raised towards a charity, which was cool, but it's just been sitting in a box for I don't know how long now.

  11. That capacitor is just to smooth power goes into the SPDIF port. It has nothing to do with the actual signal itself. Start by cleaning the AVIP cable and port connections. It's possible you have some dust causing poor contact. Try connecting a generic high intensity red LED between the outer legs of the existing SPDIF port and directing that into your SPDIF cable. If that works but the port does not, it's the SPDIF port burning out. Also try using the SPDIF output from the xbox to another device like a cheap Cmedia CM6206LX USB sound card or Turtle beach DSS. Try another device with SPDIF audio out to your current sound system (again cheap CM6206LX sound card is great for this).

  12. If they had extra content, I would agree with you. But censorship is not content, it's deliberately breaking a game in my opinion. (I know it's a law in Germany). I always need to watch out if I buy 2nd hands games, that it's not a German release.

  13. I did not download the set, but I assume @nikeymikey did a full set as in the main set json in repackinator. This set is build like this: Full NTSC set + all PAL exclusives + all JPN exclusives There is no reason to add french or german games because they are the same game as the NTSC versions. Most of the time they are inferior because there is no 480p support in some of them or they dont have the english langue in them. NTSC is always the better version of the game.

  16. Hey everyone! Figured I'd share a replacement for the XBMC4Gamers start-up screen I made. I love the dashboard but didn't feel it fit with the Xbox's design language. I've found that if you're running the 'night' theme like me, you'll need to find and replace the "night.png" image at C:\skins\Profile Skin\extras\themes\splashes\night.png, this took me forever to find lol. Enjoy!

  19. Don't think it was ever used. The drive/card packaging was never opened, don't think the DVD's have ever been taken out of their cases. Did plug it in and it fires up, but haven't done anything else with it. I also have an old modded XBox that has been sitting in a closet for many years, recently pulled it out to play with my kids and we started reading online about replacing the cap's in them. It still works but we'll do that soon, but then I remembered we have this thing just sitting in a box. What would you do? Sell it and let a buyer open it up and fix...open it up ourselves ASAP before those cap's kill it...do nothing? Only thing I don't think we'll do is send it back to Microsoft

  20. This is the PCI "raptor" card that goes into a PC: Just to clarify (and this is more directed at dtomcat), the HDD pictured is not one that goes into the Xbox dev kit. I doubt imaging this would be useful. If this drive was ever used, there *could* be a beta for a game/app on it, but I would be surprised because it looks brand new/sealed. So whoever had it probably didn't use it for game/disc mastering. More info (for others): these hard drives would go into a development PC and would store a game disc image that would be fed into the Xbox over a SCSI cable. If I recall, these drives are just formatted with standard FAT32/NTFS- they just need to be usable by the OS (Windows XP) so that the emulator software (included in the XDK) can read it and feed the game disc over SCSI via the raptor card. "Xbox DVD Layout Tool" is the software that handles everything on the PC side. Maybe @timberland would be willing to image the internal HDD for archiving sake? https://github.com/Ernegien/OGXbdmDumper

  24. @tiertop Expanding upon Marty's post here, it may be possible that there is a short or something fishy about grounding that is causing attenuation/dimming in the LED or blocking the data signal from reaching the transmitter entirely. Definitely look at ALL the wiring in there.

  25. Yeah hopefully they weren't thrown out. The tape is probably wound tightly enough around the spools to not let water get in. Outside layer might be exposed to water but inner could be fine. Even if the plastic shell is hosed, the tape spools could be transplanted into a donor shell. Several of my tapes had mold on them and I took them apart and sprayed alcohol on them to clean the outer layers and edges. But inside was mostly fine. I also have a stack of hi-8 tapes, but decent camcorders are expensive so been holding off on those. Hopefully you can find and salvage them. OXHD is coming along pretty well from what I can see. They have working boards. Here's a shot of one: https://x.com/OGX_Harcroft/status/1772763477519573003 I actually have an unpopulated OXHD board that I still need to build. My XboxHD+ works just fine, but I'd rather not be locked to Stellar or have to jump through hoops to make it work standalone. When my Stellar wasn't working for some reason, it was a very odd feeling not being able to use my Xbox because I couldn't get a video signal. XboxHD+ works well aside from that requirement and I don't mean to speak badly about it, it's just not a product that suits my particular needs.

  27. The 'ideal' temperature is, in theory, as low as possible for any PC or games console. Reported temperatures are a matter of question as I suggested in the previous post too and those can vary with Xbox version too. UnleashX and EvoX dashboard temperatures, particularly with v1.6 Xboxes are suspect but are still good for comparison purposes ie. if your normal temperatures suddenly increase without any obvious environmental cause then it is a matter of concern even if the actual figures are unreliable. With any Xbox dashboard you shouldn't be worried if at default fan speed (20%) it reports CPU/GPU as high as 60°C/140°F as it might well do at the height of summer and a long gaming session in a room at 30°+C. You can always switch the fan speed up and, typically, that will reduce the temperatures by about five degree Centigrade with each 20% step. But a retail Xbox fan at 100% is not a quiet thing. With XBMC I'd suggest you do what I do and that is set it to automatic temperature control with the aim temperature as 50°C/122°F and the lowest speed as 20%. In a temperate climate that will keep the fan speed at 20% for much of the year and, obviously, at or below the aim temperature.

  28. Well, It's basically done. I didn't get the DVD "Ready" light to work (it kept fucking with my DVD ROM drive and making it act funny), but I did get the activity light going, separate from the HDD activity LED. LAN is there as well. The two on the left are the RX and TX LEDs for the Super IO debugger. I'll test more tomorrow with the XDK and debugging through LAN, but it looks like this project is good

  29. I got the debugger working. First, some pins were loose on the SMSC chip linking to the LPC pins. Now, it will not work with the 1.4 board I'm trying to use, because the LFrame via is borked. I already know, man. I gouged the shit out of it. Anyway, if I have to use the 1.0 that I used here to test the unit, then I will, but I'm gonna try to get the 1.4 Lframe working. Project is back on track and the BOM I posted is good.

  30. The guy I bought it off of had definitively replaced the paste already and I already re-pasted it again after pulling the heat sinks towards the beginning of this adventure. I may have schmooed a little too much on there or not cleaned them well enough. I didn't have to pry at all to remove the heat sinks so I doubt I damaged the chips. From all the reading I've done on these systems, they seem to be surprisingly durable but also super finicky. Invisible trace rot, bad caps with no signs, stupid disk drives. It all seems fixable, but stupid hard to diagnose. I ordered more thermal paste and I'm gonna drown those chips in ISO soon

  34. This is a general dash error. See if running an installer such as the OGXbox installer and "Setting up" C resolves your issue. Formatting C and reinstalling the general files there is not a risk as longas you are not softmodded.

  35. So you're saying the MS dash does work when using UnleashX, using the main menu "MS Dash" menu option, yes? Well the simple thing to do is go to UnleashX's config.xml (do that when using UnleashX because of its built in text reader/editor) and see what path that uses to launch the MS dash. Copy the path then use it in XBMC4Gamers as the "Dashboard". TBH I do not know the menu structure of XBMC4Gamers, I'm a ordinary XBMC4Xbox user, but I assume Rocky5 left it in the main Shutdown menu option: "Dashboard". Once done you can then use it to launch the MS dash whenever you want. You may not be aware that if you click R3 (the right stick down) with XBMC and, AFAIK, any variant it will bring up the Shutdown menu automatically.

  36. I still have several eye toys on hand to mod up, so I can test the white LEDs pretty easily for you guys. Also if anyone wants a pre-modded "full conversion" modded one hit me up. I write the Xbox Video Chat EEPROM image to the camera's EEPROM, change out the USB cable for a 5ft non breakaway Xbox cable, and of course do the short jumper wire to ground the HW descriptor pins. I wrote the guide on CM so if you see any inaccuries or need anything explained better or further described please let me know. Here's a quck overview video I did of some of the in app functions for the Xbox Video Chat softare early last year. I recommend watching the 2nd video because Twitter has the crappiest audio codec support, and the first video is silent.

  37. I love mine. Got it pre-modded, courtesy of @Harcroft. @EvanBlax has modded his with industrial lenses, which helps with field of view and clarity too. (image taken by Evan) Here's a link to a seller who offers compatible lenses: eBay - Industrial Lenses by seller LELEN 02 There's also some STL files floating around of the Eyetoy's plastic enclosure. I'd love to modify that and put a big Xbox "X" shape in the case. Maybe even accommodating industrial lenses? That would be kickass. When I get around to opening my Eyetoy, I also plan on replacing the red and blue LEDs with white ones. The stock LEDs are surprisingly bright! If you get close, you can see red/blue lighting shining on your face. Swapping in white LEDs would turn those into a makeshift ring light. It wouldn't be dramatic, but would be more useful than red/blue I think. Speaking of the camera, the Xbox Video Chat app has also been translated to English by Evan. He's done a great job with that. I've been poking around with making a skin for the app. Still tinkering with that... For anyone wanting to explore the video chat app themselves, here's some notes I just want to put somewhere publicly: UIX files can be opened with https://github.com/Ernegien/UIXTool. The tool can't import modified assets, so hex editing assets back in would be the route. XSB and XWB files are related to audio. Sound effects, etc. Background music adds in about 500mb to size of app. Music can be entirely removed, or replaced with custom songs. Standard Xbox WMA format applies. I'm planning on dumping all but a small handful to keep app size compact. App can't be patched to run in HD... at least not easily.

  39. @Naked Newt Red/Orange is a memory issue. For some reason, the Xbox's 64MBs of RAM memory is not working properly. Possible causes: Solder bridge between pins on one or more of the chips. LPC Debug port's LRESET# pin (pin #5) being held low (or in a floating state that's not registering as a logic '1' level - HIGH) which keeps the RAM memory and other peripheral chips in a reset state never allowing them to run. (Edit: xbox-hq.com's Fixing flashing red/orange tutorial) Dead RAM chip that requires replacement. It's possible that the electrolyte corrosion damaged something involving the RAM without actually being the RAM. Unless replacing all the modules fixes it, this board is probably a lost cause since there is too much to diagnose. There have been cases I have seen where replacing the troublesome ram chip (probably only one chip in many instances, as long as RAM chip(s) are the cause) remedied the issue.

  40. You've probably got some trace rot under the board where the clock capacitor was located. Once they start leaking, they can damage components. Remove the motherboard completely and check continuity on those traces. Here is a video explaining what you should check and how to fix the issue if they're damaged. https://youtu.be/IqZ20K6o1yc?si=OsGMit_TtIeJic_O

  42. I tend to agree with your assessment, Bowl. I don’t see any reason to solder it directly to the board other than to make it difficult to undo or upgrade if you lacked the experience to do so. Yeah that about the pin header is ridiculous. I mean I’ve seen corroded pin headers on electronics before (though rarely) but everything else on the board around it was corroded as well. This was done to be difficult.

  43. In order to use the Super IO Kernel debugging unit, I will need to reconnect LFrame to the LPC/MCPX. https://xboxdevwiki.net/LPC_Debug_Port I seem to have pulled it off. I won't know for sure until I get the second resistor array for the debugger. I have so many overly rich, green parts to install and I am jonesing. This debugger needs to get done and these LEDs need to come in already. I am using molex connectors to attach the status LED wires, so that if I ever need to do work on the motherboard, I can just unplug the LED wires going up front and pull out the board. I don't know why there is fuzz on one of the molexes. I will learn to code for the Xbox... Oh yes... I WILL learn to code for the Xbox.
