Marty
Just to report, I have one of those cheap generic SATA to IDE adapters working with a 500GB SSD running smoothly. It's an XBOX Ver. 1.0 with a TSOP flash. It's running Cerbios 2.3.1 If anyone needs extra pics or info, let me know and I'll post them. The general consensus just seems to be that they are unreliable due to poor quality control and some parts need to be reflowed upon arrival to reduce that possibility. Also, since the cheapos have no priority jumper, they render the DVD-ROM drive useless and unusable.

If you have cheapos with a jumper, please give a link. Because I can't find them. Lol. Also, cheapos don't seem to be able to handle anything higher than UDMA 4. MadMartigan
AliExpress is your best, but slowest option for adapters. eBay is great also if you want them quicker for double the price. Just search "IDE to SATA adapters" And look for bulk deals. AliExpress is always bulk deals.

I'll bookmark the adapter. Thankfully the jumper positions are actually MARKED. lol. Thank you.
sweetdarkdestiny
We need to get rid of this StarTech stigmata. There are some SATA 2 IDE adapters out there like Renkforce or Delock which also use a Marvel controller chip. And all of these support up to UDMA6.

sweetdarkdestiny
Delock 62510, Delock 61702, Renkforce RF-4886682. Then there is also a slim Renkforce 973767 IDE 44pol - SATA 7+15pol. All of those have a config jumper. The price depends. The Delock 61702 is EOL BUT you can get these on eBay new from bella italia for ~10 Euro. The newer Delock 62510 and Renkforce RF-4886682 are between 15-22 Euros. Sometimes more sometimes less. The slim Renkforce 973767 though is a bit pricey, 20-30 Euros.

If yes, I can add these to the compatibility list on xbox-scene.info
Tartarus
This is a interesting topic I was wondering if there were others out there that could be used now that I'm learning more about it. when I first started I just approached it by myself and got a bunch of information from random sources and a lot of people were talking about it and using the StarTech and of course I went with one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ only cuz I didn't know and still have little information I also failed to find anything else out there or at least on a quick search it's been some time now so I don't remember how well I would have looked so if here or somewhere else has a list that would be great or if you guys are planning on starting one even better

The Renkforce 973767 is untestet but I would assume since it's also a Marvel adapter that he will work just fine. And btw. there is another one the " IDE-SATA07 " which is the same as the EOL Dedlock. How ever it should not be to hard for someone with the skill, to design a custom PCB based on the marvell 88sa8052. That way you could make your own ones for less then 10 bucks (In bulk may even cheaper than that).

Marty
...also, I flashed Cerbios 2.3.1 with the UDMA 5 option on two XBOX's. Both Version 1.0 and one has a 1TB Seagate Barracuda and one has a 500GB Silicon Image SSD. Edited August 4, 2023 by Marty

Marty
I just looked through the JMicron JM20330 data sheet...looks like UDMA 6 and above is supported. We did it, boys....
Dempsey_86
strange, I got a whole different experience with this adaptor than you (I must say its like 2 years ago). This adaptor did let my xbox boot slow when a dvd drive was attached. Sometimes it would not boot and gave an error. When I removed the dvd drive the xbox booted normal. There wasn't a U6 at the time but the Rankforce and new Delock are the same as the StarTech. With one exception that the mode header is soldered on the opsite side. The EOL Delock works with U6 (Still have 2 of them here). Edited August 5, 2023 by sweetdarkdestiny

Tested 40 & 80 wire I have one of those working with a 160GB 2.5" SATA drive, they also seem to be hit or miss (I've had 4 out of 6 working). Have you tried reflowing the solder points first? I would still recommend the JMicron 20330 version though.
