About Me

  1. Hey guys, So I have a project where I was able to come in possession of what im assuming to be a original Xbox test kit motherboard. The reason I say this is because it is an xbox motherboard with an MCPX X2 as appose to the X3 and yet it only has 64mb of ram soldered to it. It also looks like one of the previous owners tried to run Hexen and flash a retail bios on it since the solder points have been connected. Since (I'm assuming) it has a retail bios loaded on it it wont boot due to the lack of hidden boot sector in the X2. Ive finally fixed some OpenXeniums ive been working on so I have access to a couple modchips that can fit 1mb bioses in them. I am wondering, with the lack of 128mb of ram on the board, does anyone know if the development bioses will still boot to a screen showing something at least like the startup animation? I would like to see if the board is at least still functional with a proper bios and not completely nuked since it is currently in a state of FRAG that I hope is due to a retail BIOS being flashed on there. Thanks
  2. Decided it would be a fun idea to add a Xenium chip to my old xbox. Couldn't get the chip to run despite my best efforts so proceeded to remove the pin header and send it to someone a little more handy with a soldering iron. I put it all back together and all I'm getting is 2X restarts and then flashing lights. No power to DVD or HDD by the looks of things. Blank screen no video. Can anyone here spot anything that can be done? Thanks
  3. I’m finally gonna do that trace repair this Tuesday. I will be brining the motherboard to a shop where they have a soldering iron. The issue is is that I wanna bring the motherboard there without having to worry about damaging it. What’s the best way to keep it safe?
  4. Does the board have a Serial number? I see a number on the bottom of the board that starts with X, directly under the IDE connector. The only thing I see on top is a number that looks like someone made it with a label maker, by the IDE as well. I'm wanting to catalog them to keep track of the ones I've worked on.
  5. I'll do my best to describe the strange issue... I received a dead 1.6 xbox. Wouldn't power on. I changed all the bulging caps that were noticeably damaged. NOT all of them. (Maybe I should) Now the xbox powers on and works flawlessly, HOWEVER, when I power down the console. The console doesn't power back up. But, when I pull the power cord from the back and let it sit for a bit, it can power back on normally. I tried doing a google search and search this site with no luck. Help! Ideas?
  6. Hello everyone. I need information about the capacitor on the motherboard located near the ram slot. During soldering, it flew somewhere and I can't locate it. Does anyone of you have a boardview or any schematic that will help me identify this capacitor and its parameters?
  7. 1.2 Motherboard, have upgraded the ram on it and tsop flashed IND bio. Works fine but 3 caps by the CPU heat sink look bad and want to replace them. Anyone knows the exact part number or values for the 3 pictured caps? Thanks
  8. I don't exactly know what I did. I just tested a PS2 joypad adapter which worked for a little while, then the console just turned off by itself, receiving no power as I tried to repeatedly turn it on to no avail. I opened it, dusted it off and tried to turn it on with both disc drives removed and un-connected (just to watch what was happening inside): the console turned on but for just a moment, the little fan started spinning but for just a second, I repeated that many times until a tiny little "something" nearby the 1st controller port started going on fire and blown. I dusted that off too (it literally melted, turned to dust in my fingers), tried to turn it on and it worked so I reconnected the drives and it works like before but I wonder: what was that and why that happened after I tried to use the PS2 joypad adapter? Now the console works, but I notice from beyond the plastic "grates" of the side there's a red led on the motherboard. Did I remove an obstacle to the correct functioning (a material bug or something) or did I accidentally removed a crucial part of the motherboard (like a chip, a transistor, etc... sorry for my ignorance I just noticed it when it was on fire for a second, something like extremely little smoking up then nothing)? I also checked the temp after a 2 minutes gameplay it went from 70 to 90 then it stayed stable... what should I do to prevent further damage?
  9. Hello, my name is Carlos, I have an original xbox, I am connecting it by the eject button, because the power button is not working, when analyzing the tracks under the board I did not find corrosion, could someone please provide me with the scheme for measuring the points contact of the four tracks? so I can really check if they are broken.
  10. I need to test CPUS before attempting Upgrades on XBOX. Anyone have a compatible motherboard please let me know your price. Checking here before I decide on Ebay. XBOX 1.6 CPU upgrade attempt #1 (On hold until I can test CPUS 1st)
  11. I gave my friend a 1.4 crystal case I got in a bundle of Xboxes online, I forgot to tell him about needing to remove the metal shielding from a pin. Because of that, it would not boot or show any signs of power even when he put the board back in the old case. This case was completely empty so he did use the 1.6 power supply which is also important about not mixing them. There's this one particular transistor on the standby rail on the 1.6 motherboards that can fail. I have swapped this and it is working again
  12. My family absolutely adores our original xbox. It was modded back in the day with an Xecuter v2.6 chip with is connected to the debug pins, and a few other misc spots. I didn't get to the clock chip in time, and corrosion ate through the tiny edge traces under the board. I've tried repairing it, but it's beyond me... once it warms up, it goes crazy on/off eject/close... I have another 1.0 motherboard and figured I could use that as a replacement, then cross the HDD Key when I got there. So I followed the pinout of the original motherboard and replicated its connections, installed the new motherboard in the original's case and sure enough, Code 6... So I softmodded the new mobo with its original HDD with the Rocky setup and null'd the hard drive. I swapped the HDD back to my original and still no good... I've read that hard-modded xboxes are capable of working better with non-locking HDDs, so I'm hoping there's something I can do to get this new motherboard communicating with my original hard drive. I really would like to keep the content that we have on there. Is there any hope? Thanks in advance!
  13. Hi Everyone! I'm in the market for a 1.0 motherboard that has had the extra ram up to 128mb chips added, has had all the caps replaced, the clock cap removed, the TSOP write points restored, and CPU thermal paste replaced. Essentially a nicely restored 128mb 1.0 motherboard that won't give me any trouble for! Optionally it would be nice to have the LPC pin headers installed in the case recovery is needed. I know there is a lot of time in that request between the caps and the ram, so please name your price. I'm in the US.
  14. Hi I recently got a non working crystal xbox(1.6) for cheap, I already have a tsop 1.4 and was wondering if I can put all it's components(mobo, psu, dvd etc) into the crystal case.
  15. With the eventual goal of creating a very slimmed down xbox I took one of the cheap SD to IDE adapters and modified it into this. Desoldered the existing male header; soldered a female header onto the back for a direct motherboard connection. Soldered the power connection to the DVD header to keep wires from running across the board. Unfortunately this meant the openxenium install was to tall; so that got a direct solder to the motherboard.
  16. So i have a 1.6 or 1.6b xbox and i ordered a mod chip to try modding it. i see every time someone mods an xbox that have this board that they use with it. I don't have that board and want to ask if its possible to mod it without it.
  17. Pulled my og xbox out of storage, used it for a few weeks and then packed up and moved. Now when I plug it in and turn it on, I get the Christmas lights. Would like to replace the motherboard with a 1.2 - 1.5 model so I can use the same power supply I already have. I have an openxenium coming so don't need any of the drives. Thanks.
  18. Hello guys I have two Xbox consoles - a 1.6 PAL unit and a 1.4 NTSC-J unit, and both of them are chipped but have stopped working. The 1.6 PAL unit can no longer power on. It was working fine for two weeks, before it suddenly stopped working one day. I suspect the PSU's the problem. The 1.4 NTSC-J was working fine, but I think I killed the Winbond modchip after flashing it with the wrong BIOS image fro, the Hexen disc. The EvoX badge no longer appears when I power it on, and I am always getting error 05 from my unlocked hard drive. I just ordered this item (https://www.ebay.com.my/itm/193680862468), it's a 1.1 motherboard with XeniumICE modchip and 128MB RAM upgrade. The seller assured me I can transplant this to either one of my Xbox case. I read somewhere (I forgot where) that 1.6 Xbox cases are different, and will short circuit motherboards from earlier revisions, but I was unable to find concrete evidence of this. Can anyone confirm this? Also, what else can I do to try to revive my NTSC-J 1.4 console? I don't have soldering skills.
  19. I've two 1.0 motherboard sets (ie. motherboards, controller daughterboards and power supplies) for sale. Both have clock caps removed. Both working - no issues. One of them has some clock cap damage (namely C7G6 missing). That cap (C7G6) is part of clock circuit so as long as you don't plan on bringing back the clock cap it's not used and not needed. Price for the lot: 50 Euro plus shipping (I'm in Ireland). Shipping to UK should be around 5-10 Euro max. Other EU countries - please ask.
  20. Hello. I am doing an expression of interest post here, have any of you done a polymod recap to a Original Xbox motherboard? I have a 1.0 and a 1.1 im looking to recap before I can put them up for sale (I do this with all my Xbox consoles once I receive them to ensure that they go for another 20+ years or however long) and noticed that the 1.0 and 1.1 units are 1500uf 6.3v for each four capacitors near the CPU and GPU, I have seen on AliExpress that they do indeed have 1500uf 6.3v polymer capacitors available. Would it be worthwhile to recap them with solid capacitors? the capacitors I am looking at are low ESR which is recommended for Xbox recapping, and if anyone here has done so please share your information and pictures of the motherboard after polymodding if possible
  21. Hello, I am writing this today to see about getting some help with my 1.6 Xbox and the Xeceuter 2.6 CE installed in it. I recently did this motherboard mod involving a resistor to extend the life of the board and the board works fine after the install. This is also where I managed to find an issue. With the mod chip enabled, both banks load up their respective bioses, but when I disable the mod chip using the front panel switch, the console Frags after 3 tries. When I disconnect the LFrame wire from the mod chip, the console boots up like normal to the stock dash using the stock bios. Before the mod though, disabling the mod chip using the front panel switch worked liked normal. So now I am a point where I made a modification to extend the life of the console, but lost some functionality in my mod chip at the same time. I am wondering if anybody knows what would cause the issue I described and if anybody else has ever run into similar issues. Though I know most don't tend to mod 1.6 consoles if the can avoid it. I'm also curious if anybody else happens to have an Xbox motherboard that is warped around the CPU and GPU area. By warped, I mean that I can see a curve in the motherboard around that area. Thanks, DobaMuffin
  22. I opened an xbox that I picked up at the weekend last night. There was a problem with the disk drive as it kept opening an closing and wouldn't read a disk when it was held closed while the disk was spinning. I suspected a faulty drive but when I opened it I found that it was absolutely filthy inside and that something had leaked - I have attached pics - I think it's a 1.6 so I don't know what is leaking or if it is repairable - any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
  23. og xbox 1.4ghz and ram upgrade anyone have one for sale let me know will pay high cash for one ok thanks
  24. Hi, i have a xbox 1.6 and I am replacing the Transistor but I accidentally took of 2 of the point for the Transistor. I really need help
  25. Hi All How can I find out what model motherboard is in my box? Do I have to open it up or can this information be found in the OS somewhere? I have an older copy of EvoX Thx
