About Me

  1. Hello all, I'm here to try and bring about what tools I've managed to make to get Half-Life 2 on Xbox modable. I think first of all, If your wanting to quickly test mod you can run HL2 via CXBE-R. Ill have to make a post documenting whats all required to run via Folders only mode (Since i dont have a complete XZP packer yet!(Which is mainly due to me not following the spec for XTF 100% correctly.)) Else last thing I was working on is RIFF Wav to Valve's Xbox Wav spec, They cut off RIFF from the spec and have 2 supported audio formats (16Bit PCM or Xbox ADPCM) VTFTrans still has some bugs to work out for more modern VTF used in the likes of TF2, CSGO Ect, Else great for Cube map conversion. -Tools- Source SDK 2006 (Modifyed to produce Xbox Spec BSPs) https://github.com/smb123w64gb/source-sdk-2005-xbox / https://github.com/smb123w64gb/source-sdk-2005-xbox/releases VTFTrans (Tool to translate both XTF and VTF to the other.) https://github.com/smb123w64gb/vtfTrans-rs / https://github.com/smb123w64gb/vtfTrans-rs/releases XZP-PY (Currently a prototype xzp libary for python) https://github.com/smb123w64gb/xzp-py Xbox-AIN (Converts PC ain to Xbox ain) https://github.com/smb123w64gb/xbox_ain / https://github.com/smb123w64gb/xbox_ain/releases -Links- https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Half-Life_2_(Xbox)/Modding_Guide (I've been trying to flesh this out more when I have a chance.) -Use- Source SDK 2006- Requires Source SDK tools installed, and you replace your existing 2006 tools with them. Locations should be <YourSteamFolder>\steamapps\common\SourceSDK\bin\ep1\bin , Even better just Right click Source SDK -> Manage -> Browse local files. Once replaced you will need to update your Compile settings in hammer to. Else if you want to keep your original compilers, Make a copy of the bin file to a new folder and update to there. VBSP - Add -xbox -luxelscale 1 luxelscale will need to go higher if lightmaps fail to pack on VRAD VRAD - Add -xbox -exportLightmaps VTFTrans- Bring ether XTF or VTF to convert. VTF2XTF vtfTrans-rs.exe -x <file>.vtf <optional.xtf will auto rename> XTF2VTF vtfTrans-rs.exe -v <file>.xtf <optional.vtf will auto rename> (Note P8 textures are not supported, mainly VTF doesn't have support) Good flag to use is the -r which halfs the size of the texture. Why, because valve added code that makes all maps to default to half-size textures. So if your wanting HD textures, make sure to have it double of what you want for Xbox. Example Good 1 Liner in CMD to mass convert textures for /R %a in (*.vtf) do <AbsoluteDirectryto>\vtfTrans-rs.exe -r -x %a Xbox-AIN- xbonerAIN.exe <pc.ain file> <xbox.ain output> Not much more i can say, needs more testing. Something about it not wanting to load from cache but from another directory, getting mixed results with testers. Else would like to see people make some cool maps! I'm not much of a mapper, but have ported some maps over for testing. Else here is a nice example from someone in the community.
  2. Hi, looking for someone who can mod my OG 1.0 xbox please. I've got an openxenium and the ram but would rather leave it to someone more experienced. I'm based in the North West if that helps. Any recommendations on here? Thanks
  3. Hello Everyone I am new to the community and need some guidance in restoring and modding an original Xbox for a nostalgia gaming project. I recently discovered my old Xbox; which I had not used in years; and I am delighted to bring it back to life; both for nostalgic reasons and to revisit some of the great games that were a significant part of my growing up. My goal is to restore the console to full functionality while also adding some changes to maximize its capabilities. Restoration Process It is turning on; but the electricity occasionally cuts out at random. I've read of potential power supply or capacitor concerns with earlier models. Do you have any experience replacing capacitors on the original Xbox? Are there any common failure points to look out for? The disk drive is having trouble reading game discs consistently. Is it worth attempting to fix or clean the lens, or should you hunt for a replacement drive? Any tips for cleaning and polishing the casing without breaking the original hardware? The surface bears some scrapes and marks from years of use. Modding for Enhanced Functionality: I have read about both alternatives; but I am not sure which is better suited to my goals. I do not need anything too complicated; I am just interested in running backup games and emulators. Which modification solution do you recommend for a simple and hassle free experience? I have heard that increasing the hard drive is one of the best tweaks you can do to the original Xbox. Are there any hard disks you recommend that are both suitable and trustworthy for this purpose? I am considering installing a bigger drive so that I may store games and movies directly on the console. I've seen some excellent footage of early Xboxes running emulators for various old systems. What is the best method to put this up; and which emulators would you recommend? Any recommendations for improving the performance of these emulators on original Xbox hardware? Controller Recommendations: My old controllers are really worn out. Are there any new alternatives that feel as good or better than the original Duke or S-type controllers? Or would it be preferable to restore the ones I already own? Also I explored some topics related to this https://www.ogxbox.com/forums/index.php?/topic/16385-xbox-14-aladdevopsonlinetraining-xt-plus2-cerbios-242-frag-falshing-green-orange-no-video-output/#comment-75560 but I did not get the sufficient solution of my query so I would really want to get some help from a more experienced person I would like to hear from anyone who has gone through this procedure or has expertise modding and restoring early Xbox consoles. Any suggestions, resources, or tutorials would be highly appreciated. I am delighted to return to the Xbox scene and bring this ancient treasure back to life Thank you in advance for any help and advice you may provide.
  4. As the title states, it’s time to get some updated tips on case modding. Im currently looking for newer/cleaner methods of reattaching jewels after clearing them. With all of the new products being available and unexpected uses for others, I’m extremely interested in hearing what you all do and how. I’ve shared a few of my methods here and there, so share some that you think are helpful. Share anything about LED mods, Painting, and so on.
  5. Hello everyone! Just joined and will be upfront that I do own a business around case modding and deal with the original Xbox as well! I just wanted to share for some of you who are considering case mods since that is much less common than some of the hard/soft mods. I made a 4 part series that teaches how to build and complete an entire case mod for the original Xbox console..from scratch! Hopefully this isn't seen as spammy or anything since I am technically a business, but I do try to make a lot of tutorials so people can learn how to cut window mods and install LED lights, etc. The four part series can be found on my website here (videos inside are also available on youtube) : http://www.tinker-mods.com/modding-tutorials/original-xbox-case-modding-tutorials.php
  6. greetings all i came across a SHOOT-EM-UP game called DEADBABIES created buy [email protected] in the link bellow he has supplied both the original v1 and final versions of DeadBabbiesX. along with the source-code. in the readme.txt he states that he is not interested in pursuing or modding the game anymore https://legacy.downloads.diomtec.com/index.php?p=homebrew/xbins/Console Based Applications//games/DeadBabiesX/ playing his version i noticed a lot of things unfinished (BUT) the game dose have potential i have only done simple modding to the png files along with adding SATAN music ...(lol) i only have basic coding abilities and really just want to combine the better parts of V1 & Final version as a project. i have no clue on were to start and could benefit from any help you guys want to give me on setting openXDK up OPEN XDK link https://sourceforge.net/projects/openxdk/ link to my copy of the modded game and my improvements so far https://www.file.io/o17Q/download/MgbXWXg7dTIE
  7. Hello all, new here. Just had some questions about the best ways to bring my dream Xbox to life. What I'm going for overall should be simple in theory, but I'm here to be steered in the right direction if that makes sense. I'm essentially trying to do a combination of a few different mods I've seen videos of. And I'm mostly just here to ask if it's possible to do these things together and the best way to go about it.
  8. So there are some things I'm trying to figure out and having a hard time with, due to old, contradictory, or lack of info out there, and I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts. For reference, I have one each of v1.0 and v1.1, both with Xecuter 2.6 Lite chips. If caps require replacement (not the clock cap), are there any known to have special requirements for ripple or ESR? I'm thinking regular polymer electrolytic caps from Rubycon or Nichicon would be fine? Is there any reason to use FlashBIOS instead of XBlast? Assuming they're both stable, it looks like XBlast outright has more features. Are the FlashBIOS/XBlast web flashing interfaces reasonably safe to use? Without exploitable games or an Xbox/USB adapter, would the best way to TSOP flash a modchipped Xbox involve FTP backup of C&E, mod the backup with ndure, FTP it back to the Xbox, and turn off the modchip, then flash TSOP from the softmod dash? Can Xblast be flashed to TSOP safely? I've seen posts arguing both ways. If it can, could Xblast on TSOP be used to flash a modchip, if the chip is turned on after booting?
  9. Been a member for a while. Just recently TSOP flashed, pimped out my Xbox with a new SSD and a Nexus fan. Pretty neat setup, really. Thanks for reading.
  10. So i have a 1.6 or 1.6b xbox and i ordered a mod chip to try modding it. i see every time someone mods an xbox that have this board that they use with it. I don't have that board and want to ask if its possible to mod it without it.
  11. I have a startech S-video adapter for my CRT tv. I want to enable the higher resolutions (480p etc) in xbmc but don't want to buy any HD av pack. Is there any specific pin inside the standard AV cable's male plug where I can move the composite video wire to do this? I mean, I imagine it would be whichever one corresponds to S-video or component on the HD AV pack. This probably sounds a little ignorant but I've never done AV mods.
  12. does anyone know if there is a homebrew type patch for marvel ultimate alliance that adds in all the extra dlc characters(plus, moon night and colossus) from the xbox 360 version? if so, how do i install it?
  13. Hello everybody. I'm currently getting back into the Xbox OG modding scene after a long break. . . I currently have two modded Xbox's with different chips fitted, currently trying to ID what chips are currently fitted?? One of the Xbox's has a large hard drive fitted, and the other is standard, any recommendations on what hard-drive to go for.? Best regards Josh
  14. Been sitting on 10 boxes for quite some time. Finally declock capped them and started the modding process. Glad this resource is here.

  17. Hello all and sorry for the "newb" question. I have just purchased 2 OG Xbox's, one is a 1.0(shown in picture) and the other is a 1.6. I currently have the 1.0 with a openXenium, upgraded to 2tb and just recently painted / led'd it up! I have it booting to the openXenium screen, I can FTP to this machine and see all folders. What I'm looking for is, what bios and dashboard do I need for these two? Its been years since I did this stuff and originally had the X3ce but sold it long ago...... Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  18. Was pretty fun once I got control of the soldering
  19. is upgrading the hdd the main reason for doing a tsop flash/modchip? will a basic softmod allow me to ftp and install dlc and do basicly everything but upgrade the hdd?
  20. i am very strongly considering modding a v1.0 xbox. i want to install every official xbox game that was ever made onto it along with all the patches and dlc. i already have an alladin chip. can y'all give me a quick list of each item that i will need to do this mod and how big of an hdd will i need? thank u.
  21. Hey everyone just found my old og xbox crystal went for the softmodding and tsop soldering just need to change the bios and im ready to go.... cannot wait to play jade empire A question which is the best bios and why, cannot seems to find a clear list online Thanks

  23. Hey Everyone, I just recently got a xbox 1.6 in great shape! super clean and a like new shell. I installed OpenXenium chip inside, upgraded the drive to a 2TB SATA (may go to a 500GB IDE I have hanging around maybe) upgraded to a 80 wire IDE, and it works well, only issue is. The DVD drive is DOA. I found it cheaper to buy another xbox for parts than a working/tested drive on ebay. So I paid $5 +SH for another xbox. This one was listed AS IS and not working, case was fair shape. I got it, it's a version 1.0 and seems to work just fine, the DVD drive works as it should. I placed it into my 1.6 and it's fine. Question now is... do I keep the 1.6 xbox as is and call it a day? or should I move the modchip (it's only plug and play really, just gotta solder new header pins to the 1.0 xbox) to the 1.0 xbox? should I go with the 500GB IDE or 2TB SATA? could I move the heatsink from the 1.6 to the 1.0GPU to get rid of the fan on the GPU cooler on the 1.0? and I would assume the system shell is universal and I could use it either way. With the parts I have, what can I do to make the best xbox I could? Thanks everyone! ~John
  24. The debug unit I'm waiting to receive (tracking shows it will probably get here Tuesday) has the potential to run any unsigned code without any softmodding or hardmodding is what I have been lead to believe, is this right? I can transfer over or boot from disc any .xbe, for example Rebellious Bullet an unreleased Japanese game that was discovered on a debug unit and uploaded to the internet? edit spelling and youtube link
  25. Hello!, The original xbox is the one console I always wanted, but never got. When I had the flue, i decided it was time to buy one.. And have been happily playing Halo 2 for a few days now. Softmodded my xbox with a tutorial, and subscribed to check what's also possible Looks like a nice community!
