Hi Guys, I'm trying to fix an xbox which takes about 5minutes to boot. It is a softmoded V1.6 and I swapped its dvd driver from a Samsung (which I need for my main xbox) to a Philips (very temperamental and reads just some original games). I don't know why but the slow boot is related to the dvd drive, as it boots in a flash when connected to his original dvd drive. Anything I can do to solve the issue keeping the Philips drive? Thanks a lot!

Hello All I know there are some games like HP prisoner of Azkaban that won't work because of long file paths, etc. Does anyone know of a full list of games that don't work? I have read that you can use the ISO mounted on a virtual drive with softmod but my XBOX is hard modded so I'm not sure if this would work? thanks in advance AtariSoul

I picked up a hardmod v1.0 that was giving error 16. Through my fumbling with hotswapping and chimp I locked the drive to the “good” Xbox’s motherboard, so now I’m down to error 6. I got the drive unlocked and hooked up to my PC and did find an eeprom.bin on the drive, then used chimp to lock to that. (Saw a post where E:\ was the old location and Y:\ is the new one, and have done both.) Still gives error 6. Are there other names for the eeprom.bin file? I haven’t tried backup.bin and will give that a try. Wanted to post now because this is tiring. Only ways to read eeprom appear to be: 1) software running on that xbox; 2) eeprom reader. Others? Since I can’t even get the machine to a dashboard I can’t imagine that I could ftp or ssh into it, or whatever. Also, this new box has a chip in there but it isn’t working since I’m still having lock problems? Aladdin v1.1 is all I get from that. I saw a reference somewhere to Mini Aladdin, and that’s dang small. I have no experience with chips - do I need to do something like hold A+B or whatever to boot with that? Thank you.

Hi, I’m currently trying to figure out why tony hawk pro skater 3 keeps saying failed to save to hard disk. I’m wondering if anyone else has come across this issue before? My Xbox is hard modded and has been upgraded with a 2TB wd blu hard drive if that helps thanks in advance

Hello Everyone I have the XBOX Origins 2TB image. All my XBOXs are hardmodded and I want to use XBOX4GAMERS. I want to keep the games on the image to save time copying again. This image has NKPATHCER so am I right to assume its a softmod image? Is the uninstall option on the NKPATCHER menus suficient to remove the softod? I have FATXPLORER so my ultimate aim is to remove everything thats not essential and leave the games and COINOPS so I can start with a bare image and add what I want. Thanks in advance

i know the drive from a 360 will not work with an og xbox but are there any parts from a 360 drive that would work? for example, would certain lasers like the SOH-DX1 from a 360 drive work in an og xbox drive that has the same model laser?

Hi there, so today I upgraded my Xbox’s hard drive to a 2TB WD blue and in unleash X, it’s showing just 500gb available to use as storage. But when I set up the hard drive using hexen, XBpartioner let me choose 900gb partitions for F and G. Is there something I’ve done wrong to not allow the hard drives full capacity? My Xbox had a duo x2 chip and I’m on my bank that has evox bios installed. I didn’t install this chip so I’m unsure of what version of Evox this has. any help in much appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hello guys, I just upgraded my softmodded Xbox to a 500gb sata drive. Everything works great but.. it takes like 30 seconds to boot up which is kind of annoying. Could this be because of the sata adapter I'm using? I'm using an 80-wire ide cable so I know that's not the issue. Or are slower boot times normal? I haven't modded one of these for years. Just wondering, thanks.

What the title says. I've flashed my smart xx with X2 5032 and tried manipulating both the text file in the e-petition as well as as using X2 config maker to confirm that the DVD check is removed. Unfortunately it just refuses to boot I know that the config is working because the wireframe flubber shows up but it will just sit endlessly loading after that. It boots correctly with a drive plugged in. Any help?

Hello Friends I got my 1.6 Crystal modded with XE2.6 chip down from the loft. It still worked loading the games off the HD! However, it wouldn't eject, so I took it apart and replaced the rubber belt and that fixed it. Next the drive wouldn't read clean original discs, so I cleaned all the dust away, cleaned the runner rods and replaced the grease with a metal / plastic lubricant, but no luck. So I tested the POT resistance which was 1.35k ohms. I carefully adjusted it slowly by 0.1k ohms steps. When I got to about 0.9k ohms the XBOX would just turn on for a second and turn off, then on and off and now flashing red lights on the eject button. I opened up the DVD case and as expected, the laser isn't working. So I presume the laser has died and because of this the XBOX won't boot? I plan to swap my working DVD drive to prove its the DVD thats died and thats why it won't boot. But I thought modded BIOS's removed the dependancy of must having a DVD drive? If I remember I flashed the X5035 BIOS many years ago. Does this mean this BIOS does have the DVD drive dependancy and I need to upgrde the BIOS to a later version? Once I test this XBOX with my working DVD drive, should I use @sweetdarkdestiny's OGXBox Installer 2021 to upgrade the BIOS? If so, what one should I use? Sorry for all the questions, thanks in advance

Finally time to let her go. (Plus I can't find the A/V cable, so your on your own there.) Boots to XBMC fully customized with emus, music, and games. 400 GB worth. - v1.6 xbox w/Red XCM Case (as mentioned, no AV cable. Case has some cracks, mostly on bottom.) - Xecuter 3 CE Chip - X3CP Crystal control panel w X3 XLCD (Not sure why, but the bottom of the lcd isn't working properly. It will with my hand close by, but text disappears when hand is removed.) - Used to have an X3IR, the board is still inside, but no IR. - 400 GB Seagate HD - Samsung disc drive Also have: Xecuter X2.6 CE Modchip (everything but the 5v wire for v1.6 consoles, so won't work on that console without some custom work) 007 Agent Under Fire Game Disc (exploitable to softmod) 4 controllers 80 GB WD HD 250 GB Seagate HD Another 400 GB Seagate HD Games Splinter Cell and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (only the best games ever...) 4x USB port to xbox controller port adapter AVI to HMDI adapter. (Helped me when booting flashbios on newer TVs.) Let me know if interested in anything. Highest price wins. Everything as is (I've mentioned all issues I know about.)

Working with a 1.0 console with an X3 in it and a loaded 2TB Seagate Barracuda. The drive is split 50/50 between F and G. I flashed a fresh version of BIOS 3294 and now it defaults to 137GB for F and G gets the rest. I'm not sure how to resolve this one. How can I get it to recognize the 50/50 split of F and G? I also reset the configuration to defaults. Thanks. NVM, I found the right option - Disk Tools > New Hard Drive Upgrade > Use Saved Partition Table = Enabled. I was looking everywhere else and didn't think to check that option.

Looking to buy a bunch of DVD drive belt replacements but don't want to pay top dollar. Anyone have a good source? These are the 25mm, right?

Hard drive activity on the eject button led. To do that mod you don’t need an LED since we make use of the LED on the eject botton which give us a nice and clean look. Each time the hard drive read or write data, the orange (or “amber” if you prefer) led lights up and that will make you happy (Note: This just works for a man, not woman!). So what do we need: Wire. 30 AWG works for me. 10K resistor. Small piece heat shrink. Solder, Iron, Flux, IPA. Super duper glue or your hot glue gun. Optional : A beer a cup of coffee or tee. At this time you can choose the last time by your self until the tutorial is done! Ok, lets start by tear down your x-box like you normaly do and put the mainboard with the bottom side up in front you. The back ports should be facing upwards. When you have an v1.0 to v1.4 you should search for the resistor R3V2 (The v1.5 unicorne should have it one the same place, I guess). For v1.6 or v1.6b search for the resistor R3V3. (Yap, they are both on the same spot and do the same but M$ choose to lable those differently.) So when you have found the resistor, solder one end of the wire to the left side of the resistor. Now that this is done aim for the IDE connector. Measure how much wire you need to get to the IDE pin shown in the Picture (Don`t forget the length of your resistor.). It’s the first pin on the left side on top of the connector. Now solder your 10K resitor to the other end of the wire and put some heat shrink on it. Last but not least solder the end of the resitor to the IDE pin. Now it’ s time to put back together your x-box and test your new mod, of which, you can be unbelievably proud of– in case you didn't screw it up somewhere… like me on the 1.6 because I wasn’t aware that MS choose to lable the resistors wrong (remember?). But thats there fault and not mine so let us blame them for that! Still reading? Why? You have reached the end of, what ever you wanna call it, and can now make your own decisions again! (Except you have a wife/girlfriend, then you’re totally screwed cuz it’s on her to make decisions for you!). For real. I hope you had fun with this and you enjoy your new little mod. I’m out. PS. You found typos or i miss spelled something? See, you got that on top without a tip!

Hi The other day I grabbed my console from my loft, it's a 1.1 with a Samsung Drive, fitted with an X2 chip from back in the day. Before switching it on I had it apart and removed the clock cap, I cleaned up the area and couldn't see damage apart from to one of the unused VIAs under the cap (it looks like it's designed to allow a different sized cap in this spot right?). I did a visual inspection of the other caps and couldn't see any bulges or obvious leaks. I don't know which version BIOS is on the X2, looking around the HDD it's likely 5031 or 5035, and it's got an EvoX dash on it, I found a Slayers 2.7 disc so I'm guessing I used this. Now the actual problem! The tray keeps ejecting whilst I'm sat on the dash. It ejects, I close it and the dash reports INIT in the disc status, i hear it trying to read and then it gives up and ejects again, then goes around in a loop. I had to goto work then, so switched it all off and left it. Returned from work later and try again. This time whilst it was doing the eject, init, eject ini loop I was searching for solutions and trying it with the X2 disabled and enabled. Finally the tray stays shut. I launch a game off of the HDD and it's fine. Booted my Slayers disc and it was fine. Search results were saying that Samsung have tray getting stuck issues normally. Check for things obstructing in the drive and give it a grease. Other results were saying that the clock cap could have caused some damage that relates to this (but that also depends on mobo version). I'm leaving it off again now, to see if it misbehaves after cooling down again (which is what happened earlier), and then I'll be pulling it apart again to have another look. I'm a bit gutted that I ordered a bunch of Cap Kits from Console5 last week for other machines but wasn't thinking about the old xbox at the time. Ordering just the xbox kit will cost more in shipping (to the UK) than the caps and be slow at the moment. I'll have to look for a UK supplier or stop being lazy and buy the individual caps! Can anyone advise on what is most likely out of the causes I mention, or even if there's more things to look at ta Pete

Hi folks, Am a very newbie lol , I bought an original Xbox soft modded (0.38.0515A Build 565) . Worked fine for few days, but now 95% of the time when i boot it up I can hear the click of death... CLICK CLIcK ... the Hard drive is dying and it stays in the boot screen. Every-time i try to read/write from the hard drive (FTP) it starts clicking and I can't do anything and sometimes a screen with error 09 appears. I learned from searching on google ,that I need a HDD key to replace the hard drive before it dies completely , so I managed to copy it from the UnleachX info screen ( HDD key + Serial number ). Is it possible to replace the hard drive ? Is there any hope ? PS: I do not have any soldering tools/skills and sorry for my English. Thank you in advance

Howdy all! So first tech Q. As some of you may know I recently have got a XBOX sent to me from a friend so I have been purchasing the extras controllers, cables etc. Anyways I brought a bundle of controllers that came with a xbox FOC! Now it was listed as working which it is but the DVD drive wont read disc's and it rattles! The seller packaged i very poorly so I suspect it was damaged in transit. Now other than that and the leaking clock cap (which I have pulled off and cleaned up) it seems to be fine, and looks like it has a mod chip installed? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IB92couhg9q7x4Nfi5Hkt9lNWHT_ATwL/view?usp=sharing So what I am wondering is do I have any options with this thing? I know I could replace the drive but I was wondering if there was a way I could use my other TSOP'd box to sort of build a HDD for it and put it in this one or some other way of transfering stuff to the HDD? It seems to have a stock dashboard on it and I obv cant use a hexen disc. Any thoughts appreciated as it seems a shame to side line it for the sakes of a dvd drive. Cheers.

My original xbox died 10 years ago and the drive has been sitting on the shelf ever since. I recently installed an Aladdin XT Plus2 chip in a 1.6 Xbox and I have hexen19 burned onto a DVD. How Do I replace the stock drive with the drive from my old u modded xbox? The reason I want to use the old drive is that I want to transfer my save files off of it then place a new drive in the xbox, if this isn't possible, is there another way to transfer my files off the old drive. The drive is a Seagate not a WD.

Quick question I am finding difficult to search online. Like most, I mainly play games directly from the hard drive, but do occasionally like to play my games on disc. I am wondering if there is an application out there that gives you the option of disabling the dvd drive on startup? I want to keep my dvd drive alive for as long as possible, and I cringe everytime I boot the Xbox and the laser searches for a disc that isn't there. It seems I am just degrading the lifetime of the drive that way. If I can disable the drive when I am not using it, I bet I would be able to squeeze more life out of it. Thanks!

Hi. Again please be patient with me I'm learning. Is it normal to not be able to see the G drive. Its partitioned and formatted using install Disk. And shows up. But in on dashboard, file explorer or xbmc etc it's nowhere to be found.
