Hello, my name is Kris and I wrote the Xbox repair guide 2.1 around 17 years ago. I have thought about updating it (my grammar was atrocious!) and wanted to get feedback from OG Xbox fans. On top of the grammar, I wanted to reshoot the videos and pictures to today's standards. I also saw the suggestion for a PDF version, so that's gonna go on the list. Any other suggestions?

There's a lot I have missed since getting out of gaming so any help would be appreciated.

Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

That's the one! You can also find it at http://www.rollmanit.com/xrg

I am going to first copy it over to a WordPress site, it was originally made using frontpage and then compiled into an exe format. I thought I lost the source files but found an old archive recently, which renewed my interest in it.

Awesome stuff!

always great to have authoritative compilations of knowledge! It certainly leads to less hunting around the web for bits of info.

if you’re feeling ambitious you could even document when misinformation has got spread about and help stamp it out with some nice citations!

(I’m guilty of a bit of that too, so eager to help and end up repeating bad info that I’ve heard)

thanks for your original version - and good luck with the update!

don’t forget the wayback machine for some of those citation links!

:)

It has literally been over 10 years since I've played it. One of the bootup screens says "Xecutor2" at the bottom, so that tells me that much at least.
My main question is the three (3) dip switches on the front of the console. Someone else installed it for me, and I forget what each of them does.
I think that the left-most one controls whether or not the modchip is active; you wanted to toggle that one off if you ever went onto XBox Live, I think.
      Can anyone help?

A friend gave this modded Xbox but didn't know much about it.  I've had soft modded ones. but don't know much about the hard ones myself either.
It has a larger hard drive.  When you turn it on it gives the 09 error and ring flashes red and yellow.  Someone told me that button should be held on the controller when you turn on the Xbox but isn't sure which ones.  Would that cause the 09 error?
      Thanks for any help.

In the Build v1.1.8\Extras Disc\Documents folder their is a txt file that says:
You can run the "Xbox Softmodding Tool Extras Disc.iso" from the Xbox HDD.
What happens if I run the virtual image and wish to restore xbox to factory using that image.  Will it corrupt the drive as the image is being read off the same drive?  Or being a virtual image it is stored in a temporary location and once the xbox is restored it is deleted and won't interfere when restoring.
