DVDs drive constantly opens.

This thing keeps ejecting and will not even let me shut the console up. I have to unplug it. I'm worried about dead firmware. Possibility? The front panel traces are spotless.

Change the drive belt. When it's worn out, it wouldn`t close the drive far enough, which causes to eject it. Sometimes it could also be caused by a lot of junk inside the drive.

Was auch sein kann, die (zumindest Samsung) Laufwerke haben 2 endschalter. Einen für lade offen und einen für lade geschlossen. Kann sein das einer davon keinen richtigen Kontakt mehr hatt. Die mal Durchmessen.

Kannst auch mal ein anderes Laufwerk probieren. Wenn das auch automatisch öffnet, dann sind es vermutlich die Spuren unterhalb des Mainboards.

as ultimate said above me, I've had this happen to drives that were filthy. after cleaning them out and boiling the rubber band for the gears, it worked great.

check DVD tray sensors. Boiling rubber band will not revive it, tried multiple times, will be super clean which helps.

Okay so I ran the loading mechanism through its full range of motion. And it stopped ejecting. It was a bit siezes.

Now the drive is grinding with the lid on. I take the lid off, bam reads the disc. Wtf is up with this drive and why is the top causing so much resistance?

That silver magnet is supposed to be in the BOTTOM spindle and pull on the top one. Duh. I put it in and now it's like sliding around and making some friction noises. But the drive works with the lid on now. Now I have to figure out what's sliding around...

It came back out and stuck to the roof again... I have to glue it into the bottom spindle so it won't move.

The magnets in those things can get out of wack. Just start with one strip of electrical tape and try it out. And another strip until the magnetism is reduced. 
 

Edit: or you can totally tape the middle off and use an exacto knife cut out the ring for the connection to the drive tray.

Put the magnet in unbalanvsd and superglued it. Now the laser assembly clicks and won't read the disc. It's gone. I had one shot at that and I fucjed it up. So much for making money on that. Now I'll break even I guess. Gotta buy a new drive cool!

It’s too late tonight, but I’ll check my junk box tomorrow. I’m sure I have some dead drives, but not sure what they are. Maybe someone else can check their scraps also. We can Frankenstein a good drive for much less $$$

Heh. Well I appreciate that, buddy. A lot. Thank you for your effort, dude. I hope I don't have to buy a new drive. Basically the spindle is what I need. So maybe a motor?

I peeled the magnet out and got the drive to work again. I had to get ALL THE GLUE out before it was balanced enough. What should I do to secure this stupid magnet?

Fuck it. I used way too much glue in that spindle groove. There's no way I'll get it all out. I need a motor for the hitachi-lg. This magnet will never sit flush again. There was nowhere for the glue to go when it spread, it was such a tight fit. I'll never make the mistake of using too much glue again. I'm an idiot.

All good and you still have an OG that works minus the. DVD.  Hold onto it till you come across one with a failed main board and make a good one outta the two.

Failing that make a slim out of it.

Yeah if I can't get the motor for cheap then that's what I'll have to do... I'm going through my options. I almost fixed TWO things wrong with an optical drive that actually works... I'm so fucking PISSED.
