About Me

  1. I'm currently using the Startech USB2SataIDE to build new hdd's with FatX. I have the USB3SataIDE version, but it doesnt work with FatX. I don't know if it's because it uses an Innostor-IS611 chip, compared to the JMicron-JM20337 of the USB2 version, or something else. I've heard of people using USB3 with FatX and was curious if anyone here has had success. I average 27MB/s, just looking to do better.
  2. Dear All, I own an StarTech IDE to Sata adapter, and I have a 3.5 HDD on my OG XBOX, however owing to the Power Cable this adapter won't fit on the HDD Case, how did you fix this issue? Thanks

  4. I've grown to really dislike Startech. The glitching with Samsung DVD drives, £20 price tag, that obnoxious double ended molex connector that gets in the way. I hate that it's considered the best one. I've had a few run ins with those terrible generic adaptors from Aliexpress too. Recently someone on Ebay has been selling modified generic adaptors that adds two resistors to improve boot times. It works great and doesn't have the problems Startech has. Trusted seller btw, have bought lots of custom Xbox sized 80 pin IDE from them before I plan to start selling modded Xboxs soon, totally cleaned out and refurbished to a factory level. Would using these modified generics devalue the Xbox? Like if it was you guys and you were shopping for a modded Xbox and came across my listing, would the lack of Startech be a huge put off? Thoughts?
  5. I keep reading that it's mandatory to switch to an 80-wire cable with these adapters, because otherwise the Xbox IDE controller would negotiate a higher UDMA mode with the adapter and this would fail at boot. But at the same time, the usual word seems to be that the stock Xbox BIOS is limited to UDMA2 and you need things like Cerbios to be able to use higher UDMA modes. Given that they shipped the console with a 40-wire cable, it would make sense to cap at UDMA2. UDMA2 can of course run on 40-wire cables, so those two statements would appear mutually exclusive, which nobody really seems to notice. The only way I could make sense of that is if the adapters were only ever tested with 80-wire cables or if they would fail to negotiate down to UDMA-2, if being on a 40-wire cable. I've looked up the Marvell 88SA8052 spec sheet and while it's not exactly detailed, it's saying that besides UDMA "up to 150 MB/s", it's supporting PIO as well, and that certainly does not need a 80-wire cable. That would suggest that in theory, the chip should be able to negotiate UDMA-2 and work with the stock cable just fine. Did anyone ever get the Startech adapter to work with the 40-wire cable?
  6. Remember a decade or so ago it was strongly advised to ONLY buy StarTech brand SATA / IDE adapters. I remember them costing around $20 USD. Is this still the case? What is yours experiences? Are the $3 USD cheap Chinese ones on eBay acceptable?
  7. Found a good cable at the right price. This is my 1st time doing this so want to ensure I don't get the wrong thing. Can anyone confirm this is the correct cable for the cable upgrade? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285945357382?_skw=40-Pin+80-Wire+Ultra+ATA+2-Drive+Ribbon+Cable&itmmeta=01J8FJNTK17R82D1ZCRYBY15EN&hash=item4293abe446:g:yyEAAOSwn79miQYA&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKm7iQbBnl8fbU52nphsfcwuAH31NaccGcUbV80i4JT902JWYi6f4XgAav7Xybkxh1nxEmx63PsR38SqwGwENGp7DTRE3m4H6f0AhMfeEom2EU0mRVj9TTuwmtUl6uPhmVFuEO51x%2B0sBMynTSTKHBWvl%2BZnkE5B4LTOj9bZj1yh6D17INxfH4%2B1L%2FzOqeL5lXFnpHxCNDJ5%2FJmSQ8cYLaxhS1s0aUcQJ4SXR0CWhj88TrZ%2FSk%2FbFas%2FO8OF%2FJ36KPcBkilHyXkb2%2BXk3Cbv59RMRHmkOumHImHfqEueFkznUw%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR8qp1_LDZA
  8. Hi, i need info about my xbox 1.6 console modded by me, with Aladdin XT Plus and flashed a Cerbios 2.4.2, mod with SATA adapter (cheaper edition) buy online a some years ago, the HDD is SATA 500GB with original IDE HDD cable. The question is if the config is ok or change bios UDMA mode?
  9. Hi all, Thought I would offer these out as they are sitting round doing nothing, bought the adapters and cables in bulk a while back and upgraded the adapters (100ohm resistor installed to R4 giving good boot times), used most but still have 5 kits available, comes with: 1 x brand new ATA 133 IDE Round Cable 1 x M03C IDE/Sata Adapter with 100 Ohm resistor pre-soldered at r4 The cables come with the rubber protectors near each IDE connector, I personally cut these off for ease of installation. £15 per kit plus postage (£17.50 posted)
  10. Currently it's the cheapest on eBay, for my location (found some Startech ones, which are generally most suggested online, but they cost 50€ wth). Asking this because last time I tried another adapter (this one), Slayer Evox installer didn't recognize it (showed 0 for all partitions on the main screen, then faked to formating and copying files -very quickly).
  11. I’m attempting to upgrade to a 1 TB SATA HDD. I have the following: Xbox 1.4 Aladdin Advance modchip EvoX M8+ (EvoX.m8.ece.67.noDVD.UX.256.bin flashed from OGX Installer 1.5.4. MD5 4737a026fde9e799d9c7392d05971505) Seagate ST1000DM003 1 TB SATA HDD StarTech IDE2SAT2 adapter Gigabyte 80-wire IDE cable OGX Installer 1.5.4 (DVD-R burnt with slowest speed) I installed the SATA HDD and initially used the stock 40-wire IDE cable since the 80-wire IDE cable is a tight fit. I booted the Xbox with OGX Installer to setup the HDD. The DVD drive tries to load the disc but makes strange noises. It sounds like the laser head is stuck in a loop. It doesn’t do this when I boot the disc without the IDE2SAT2 adapter. After 30 seconds I ejected the disc as I didn’t want to possibly damage the DVD drive. I got the same result with the 80-wire IDE cable. I also tried the IDE2SAT2 adapter in master and cable select mode. The SATA HDD is listed in the Xbox Hard Drive Compatibility Chart, but I don’t think that matters since I’m using a modchip and the drive doesn’t need to be locked. The BIOS I’m using should have LBA48 support. What would be the most likely cause of this issue?
  12. Hi all, ive been using the chinese style adapters from ebay but the price has been creeping up on them so thought i would source a bulk from alibaba, they looked the same on the pics so thought i would be good to go, i ordered 10. they work but the console takes ages to go from the xbox splash screen (without the microsoft tag) to the little microsoft tag appearing at the bottom (15 - 20 seconds as opposed to 1 or 2 seconds with the other adapters), once that has appeared they work fine, everything else is the same speedwise. looking at these adapters they actually look better quality, even the master/slave jumper comes in its own little bag, one other thing I've noticed is they work with the standard 40 pin ide cable whereas the other chinese adapters only worked with an 80 pin. anyone had any experience of these?
  13. Recently acquired 3 Xboxes that I have tsop flashed with Cerbios. At first I purchased a cheap sata to IDE adapter and quickly found when I connected it I had no access to the DVD rom. I was also using the 40 wire IDE cable at the time so, I purchased an 80 wire IDE cable hoping it would solve the problem but unfortunately still no DVD rom access. I then purchased the startech adapter believing it would indeed fix the issue but alas, still no DVD rom access. With the startech adapter if I enable the option in the cerbios.ini file for DVD & HDD I get error 13 no mater which UDMA bios I flash and can't even boot into safe mode. So, doing this requires me to remove the drive and connect it to my pc to edit the ini file back to HDD & No DVD. Once I do this I can boot with up to UDMA mode 5 enabled. I was using old laptop sata drives until today when I got an SSD with the startech adapter but it still does the same thing. It also doesn't matter which position I move the jumper to on the adapter. Master and Cable select both do the same thing in all 3 Xboxes. Any ideas?
  14. I have 2 sada drive I want to use for HDD upgrades for my og Xboxes. Do the hdds need to be wiped before using? If so any suggestions on a wiping/cleaning program for the hdds? Any suggestions or comments welcomed. Thanks
  15. i bought a cheap adapter on ebay. it doesnt have a master/slave adjustment. is that needed?
  16. Hey guys, my softmodded 1.6 box with a SATA adapter in it is taking a while to boot up and I'm wondering if the drive is on its way out. I'd like to be able to clone the drive to a SATA SSD I have lying around but every drive cloning tutorial I see out there involves hotswapping an IDE drive. How would I accomplish this?
  17. I’m attempting to fix a friends unmodded 1.0 Xbox with a dead HDD (error 7). I’ve successfully extracted the EEPROM using PiPROM and prepared a new IDE HDD with FATXplorer. However I’m having trouble locking the replacement Seagate ST3320620A IDE HDD which according the Xbox Hard Drive Compatibility Chart supports locking. Initially I used an IDE to USB adapter but XboxHDM23USB Beta 3 and 4 complained about an unknown USB chipset. I then tried a StarTech PATA2SATA3 IDE to SATA adapter which progressed a little further but still fails with “ATA SECURITY SETPASS failed: scsi error aborted command”. The output from XboxHDM23USB Beta 4 shows that the HDD is in the frozen state which I believe prevents unlocking/locking. If this is causing the failure, how can I unfreeze the HDD? Can I use some other utility such as hdparm to lock the HDD?
  18. Hello all DONT BUY CHEAP ADAPTERS i installed a SATA to IDE adapter ages ago and now having problems with ERROR 13 when using the HD swap trick with the OG 8gig the new SATA would work again, but this was a false hope as I have now realised the actual adapter is the fault of error 13 i purchased this adapter https://www.amazon.co.uk/Multibao-Interface-Adapter-Converter-Parallel/dp/B08VR9YQ3C/ref=asc_df_B08VR9YQ3C/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=499393282480&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13086529900178308512&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045594&hvtargid=pla-1251257650787&psc=1 and have found there to be acid on the board and the capacitor is loose DON’T BUY THIS ADAPTERS
  19. Hello again, I got another Xbox with another problem. It`s a box manufactured 2003 (so no 1.6 I guess) and it`s a SmartXX built in from 2004. There are several banks flashed with some BIOS files (see picture). There was only a 160GB IDE drive installed so I decided to change it to a SATA 2TB. I made a FTP-copy of the files from C and E. I used FatXplorer to prepare the drive and copied all previously saved files to the new C and E drives to the new partitions. After that I got error 21 after boot. The only working Dash is the EvolutionX but it won`t recognize the F and G partition as it should. I formatted F and G 927GB each but as you can see in the picture it shows only F and not even the correct size. I think the flashed BIOS version is too old. When EvolutionX boots up it shows Xecuter2 below the green xbox logo. Wich BIOS do I need to flash SmartXX and how do I flash it? I need your help again Regards.
  20. Hello! My setup I have been running XBMC-Emustation dash on my V1.6 Xbox with a WD2500JB IDE drive ... the system was soft modded using Xbox-Softmodding-Tool. Both tools created by @Rocky5 https://github.com/Rocky5/ I want to update my storage and have both a 2TB WD20EARS and a 3TB WD30EFRX. I purchased the following ribbon and PATA>SATA off Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EOJNGC2 https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B073CKHX7X (I bought two of each; I upgraded my brother's OG Xbox as well using a 1TB WD Blue drive... don't have the exact model in front of me ... but the ribbon and PATA>SATA worked amazing.) The Issue After loading the initial Xbox green splash screen, I am not booted into the Dashboard. Instead, the screen goes black and it just hangs. I've found I can open/close the DVD tray and THEN it will boot the dashboard. I've also noticed the speed is slower in both the initial splash screen and the loading of the dashboard itself (after I manually open/close the DVD tray to get the dashboard to load). Again, tested with both the 2TB and 3TB drives Things I've Tried Re-softmodding the system Both 2TB and 3TB drives Different default Dashboard (UnleashX) Additional StarTech adaptor Additional 80 pin IDE cable ... Anyone's input would be appreciated!
  21. Results Below! I compare load times while controlling all variables of the startech ide2sat2 adapter vs the cheap adapter that most people recommend. There are significant differences in both price and performance. cheapo ux bootup 2:28 - 3:09 = 41 seconds halo 2 load 4:11 - 4:56 = 45 seconds coinops dd3 5:42 - 6:25 = 43 seconds startech ux bootup 8:00 - 8:20 = 20 seconds halo2 load 10:05 - 10:25 = 20 seconds coinops dd3 10:57 - 10:40 = 43 seconds CoinOps was 43 seconds for both tests. This implies that the wait isn't due to throughput of the storage device but rather the zip extraction of the cpu.
  22. Upgraded to SATA drive - using 80 pin and Startech Ide to Sata - have the Startech on cable select - after the clubbed I get error 11 - tried master as well - cable loads older 250 ide cable - I’d say the adapter but I locked the drive using h it in an ok’d ide pc and it worked fine - I’m totally stumped and would really appreciate your expert advice - thanks!
  23. hi all new here and new to thee xbox modding, i have a tosp modded og xbox i wont to check the heath of my drive as ive noiced sum saves are not loading i have a 500GB segate sata drive in it i wont to make sure the drive is ok and it's not just a curuped file ?
  24. All Xbox's I mention are Tsop'd 1.0,1.1& 1.4 .I'm receiving the errors above, this is only with the sata HDD and a convertor I got off ebay. I have one in another tsop xbox and it runs fine So I have 3 convertors, all are the same and 1 runs just fine. The other 2 give the error codes above. The one working is using the original Xbox's IDE Cable with a slow 5400rpm 2tb Drive. Works flawlessly The other 2 Tsop xboxs ( 1.0 & 1.4 ) do not want to accept the Sata Drives, Their original Stock HDD with UNleashX Dahboard works fine on both. All drives are set to unlocked the 1.4 runs EvoM8+ The 1.0 Run x2 5035? Think thats right. - Same as the 1.1 that works. I've read this could be an issue with the Sata Adaptor, IDE Cable only being 40wire, Drives or Both. Its worth mentioning I've tried a few different hdd's with the same issue on all Sata's. I can get Hexen2020 to boot on both but Hexen also struggles to read the drives. On the 1.4 I backup the Eeprom to the HDD and it will boot but to the Xbox Dash and as soon as I try with the UnleashX Dash I get the errors again. I am close to ordering an 80wire ide cable to try see if this resolves it, Failing that The more expensive adaptor for IDE made by Star tech which i'd wished to avoid. 1 more thing, the IDE to Sata Adaptors being set to Master gives the error. Without the Pin in cable select does nothing but freeze on the Blob Screen Slave mode causes it to freeze also. Any advise is really appreciated.
  25. I'm planning to put in a new hard drive as the 320gb IDE hard drive that I was using has crapped out on me. Now, I'm thinking that I would prefer a 480gb sata ssd as it's more than enough storage for all of my backed up games that I care about playing. Obviously the advantages over a normal sata mechanical hardrive or even IDE is power consumption and noise. But I've seen some advice given that suggests that using a SSD in the Xbox might not be the best idea, as the Xbox OS obviously doesn't have TRIM support, thus eventually causing problems and possible deterioration of the SSD drive. I'm curious to here from people that have used SSD's in their xbox for the long term now. Have you ran into any problems? is this something I should be concerned about?
