Received an Xbox for spares I bought off Ebay. The thing I wanted it for was the working disc drive and all seems OK with that although it is my least favourite Philips VAD6011/21. The Xbox was listed as having error 16 - which it does so I was prepared just to swap out the disc drive but the rest is in pretty good nick, a bit of dirt and fluff on the the MB but all cleanable so I'm now thinking about actually trying to get it working again. But no extra cost so I'm not going to fit a chip or buy/build an eeprom reader (the eeprom of course is unknown) and I've been researching the best way of doing this. Rocky5 in another forum about a year ago posted about using Chimp 261812 on another Xbox and hot-swapping in the error 16 HDD (set to cable select) and using Chimp's Fix Error 16 option. Sounded good until the guy who was asking had trouble getting the HDD either to unlock or be recognised by Chimp. The solution that apparently worked was to use an installer disc instead of Chimp 261812 and actually hot-swap the error 16 HDD in for the main HDD and use HeXEn or whatever to install a softmod on that before swapping it back. Another solution I found suggested hot-swapping to an IDE USB adapter/housing and using either Xplorer360 or XBHDM USB to install a dashboard. I've had 'fun' with that sort of thing before and almost gave up trying to get the hot-swapped HDD to be recognised by Xplorer360 before it actually worked. So what method has worked for anyone else here wanting to fix an error 16 and is there some other, cost free, solution I've overlooked? BTW all the information I have suggests this is a Xbox v1.2: Conexant VE, Philips disc drive, 21st Feb 2003, China but I know there is difficulty distinguishing between the v1.2 and v1.3. I'd like it to be a v1.3 and then I'd have a full house but the evidence and my waters tell me this is a v1.2.

i know that ninja gaiden black had some of the extra content and updates but it didn't have it all. how can i get this content now?

Yesterday I ftp'd Conker Live and Reloaded to my Xbox v.1.0 , however the game doesn't boot up, instead it displays a message saying: "there is a problem with your disc, it may be damaged or dirty". I tried patching the game with ACL in DVD2Xbox but nothing happens, I still get the same error. Is there something more I'm not taking in account?

i've never seen a youtube vid where the smaller capacitors were replaced, only the bigger ones. do the small ones not go bad?

Hi Guys I'm getting this issue with my Enter the Matrix game(NTSC). I am using an NTSC-J 1.6 Xbox with an aladin mod chip running M8plus (EvoX). I tried ripping Enter the Matrix to the console and when I play it, I get a black screen with a couple green dots. I then tried to run it straight from the Disc and get the exact same error. I then put the game in my 1.4 softmodded pal xbox and the game loads just fine. Does anyone know why this is? I have attached an image of the blank screen with dots.

Hello i have a xbox with a almost dead hard drive and a dvd drive that works barely. The previous owner performed a tsop very long ago and that's why i believe that i can boot to hexen without the hard drive, also i saw some solder residue on the pads to unlock the bios protection. (Cleaned the old solder and bridged the points again) I have a 1.4 with a Windbond and focus chip, the main problem that i have is that i can't move the options in the Gentoox because my only working controller seems to be a fake controller or at least the original pcb was replaced with a generic one, someone told me on the Xbox-hq forums that i can just drop the bios file on C:/Bios . Can i boot HEXEN and ftp the bios file from there? Also what bios do you recommend? I can't decide beetween evo m8 or iND-BiOS.5004.67 Thanks for your time.

Hi just got the xbox original running again. Forgot about TSOP and all that stuff. Will need to update and upgrade it to a larger HDD. Thanks and will look into it now on this nice forum!

Hello everyone, so here I am, a person with nearly no knowledge about the OGXBox Here is a little backstory and what my "plans" are. Four or five years ago I bought off a xBox from eBay with the goal to softmod it and play backups from the harddisk. I already hat a 120 GB HDD laying around. So I messed a bit around and got it pretty easly running and finding out, that the XBox was already somehow modded. Long story short: I swapped out the HDD and played for a couple of months with the OG Xbox until I moved into a new appartment with my wife. At my job I found two 750 GB HDD IDE drives and thought "sweet, lets swap them out". But guess what: I did not saved the tutorials on how to swap the HDD. I remember that I burned a CD to save the HDD key, and lock the new HDD with the same key to get it working. After a little bit of digging I read about the clock capacitor issue. After realising that my XBox is now more then three years in my basement I only thought So now I'm sitting at work and as soon as I'm back home getting my old XBox back and see if damage is there or not Well, because of my missing knowledge on how to swap out harddisks again I wanted to ask for you help! I already found out about chimp and got a Y-Molex Cable in hand. So the swapping should not be that hard. But since I want to bring back new life to my XBox I wanted to learn more about it. And there is now the your help needed: How to I found out what softmod is installed (if a softmod is installed, I never removed the ODD drive and see if there is a chip in it) Should I update the softmod even if everything is working? What if I got a softmod without the clock loop fix and already removed the capacitor, is there still a way to recover the XBox? As you can see, my questions are really beginner like, but it's quite hard to find more informations and I thought it woudl help me a lot if you could help me So thanks in advance for you help!

Hi Guys So I'm having a bit of an issue FTPing Enter the Matrix to my Xbox. So I have a redump XISO of the game which is more than 7GB. I then extracted the contents and it went down to 4.77GB. I then tried to FTP it over to my console but a few .txt files have a long name that is preventing the game from FTPing over fully. Do you guys perhaps have some advice as to how I can get the game over? I thought of recreating the XISO but that is over the standard DVD size, so I can't burn it. I currently have 2 xbox's, one softmodded with Rocky5 and the other is a 1.6 with an aladin mod chip running Evo X. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings! DNA64 (aka viral_dna) and also known as `DNA` on the old #xbox and #xbmc IRC channels where I was an OP and Dev. I joined the scene before the release of the system which I picked up on launch day and immediately began disassembling and dissecting the console. Some of you may remember me, or know me from other scenes, I've been in a great many of them over the last 20+ years. I'm currently involved in the Classics systems that have been recently coming out. But the OG XBOX holds a special place in my heart, in fact, it's the only XBOX that does so. Sadly a great deal of my postings and guides have been lost after some of the best forums out there went under. I look forward to sharing some of my work with you here and possibly creating new guides for those looking for help.

So currently on the second week of lockdown here in the UK, decided to venture into my attic where amongst the usual junk (12 suitcases) I found 2 ZX Spectrums, a fully boxed sega megadrive and 5 Xboxes! I cant even recall having that many xboxes - brought them down stairs and all appear to be working, one is chipped and one is softmodded so Im going to start and have a tinker with them to make a retro games console for my TV room..be prepared for lots of questions from me as I can recall much about my modding days anymore!

Hi, I've managed to do all of the steps to install the unleashedx softmod via usb and splinter cell, the ftp settings, placing the snes9x X folder in the correct location, and getting the emulator to show up on the console. All i had left to do is simply hit the A button on any one one of the Roms to start them up, and yet nothing happens when i do that? The A button works fine for literally everything else except starting the Roms. I'm hoping it's because i have an off brand madcatz controller, and not an original xbox controller. Or maybe it's something more simple than that? Corrupted Roms maybe?

I hace a 300gb IDE hard drive that I used in a sodtmodded Xbox back in the day - only realized this evening that it is locked and that I no longer have the Xbox I made it for - is there anyway to unlock it - I have softmodded xboxes lying around - would they help unlock it? Thanks

Hi there! My name is Jake, I just joined the forums to hopefully gain knowledge but I've been playing the original xbox since it came out. I think I was 10 or so, and I remember opening up my xbox in middle school but I never did anything serious with it. Well in the past year or year and a half I've started collecting the systems, I bought about 10 OG xboxs for cheap off craigslist, facebook, and ebay and Ive got around 30 controllers. Mostly everything works but there's a lot that can be fixed up with soldering and I have never soldered before. I want to start by making a USB adapter out of a DVD receiver and try fixing some of the controller wires. I also picked up 3 huge CRT tvs for free off craigslist and I have a LAN setup ready in my house at all times. I want to eventually softmod and hardmod some of my systems but I've never done any of this before so I turned to the best place for free informantion - the internet. I really need to spend less time on facebook so I'm willing to dedicate myself to this forum.

Good evening. Just after a bit of advice please. Managed to get one of my xboxs soft modded successfully last night so very pleased with that. The query I have is the following. Opened up my translucent green xbox to clean it but noticed this chip installed. Am looking for any info please as to what it is and what I am able to do with it if you dont mind. The console was from a friend and he cant remember what it was installed for lol. Cheers

Very new to the OG Xbox so am very much looking forward to being here and hoping to mod an xbox soon, well at least once I have worked out what I'm doing anyway lol. Currently own 2 black, 1 crystal and 1 crystal green Xbox's which all work apart from on of the black ones which has a dodgy power supply.
