About Me

  1. Greetings! DNA64 (aka viral_dna) and also known as `DNA` on the old #xbox and #xbmc IRC channels where I was an OP and Dev. I joined the scene before the release of the system which I picked up on launch day and immediately began disassembling and dissecting the console. Some of you may remember me, or know me from other scenes, I've been in a great many of them over the last 20+ years. I'm currently involved in the Classics systems that have been recently coming out. But the OG XBOX holds a special place in my heart, in fact, it's the only XBOX that does so. Sadly a great deal of my postings and guides have been lost after some of the best forums out there went under. I look forward to sharing some of my work with you here and possibly creating new guides for those looking for help.
  2. So currently on the second week of lockdown here in the UK, decided to venture into my attic where amongst the usual junk (12 suitcases) I found 2 ZX Spectrums, a fully boxed sega megadrive and 5 Xboxes! I cant even recall having that many xboxes - brought them down stairs and all appear to be working, one is chipped and one is softmodded so Im going to start and have a tinker with them to make a retro games console for my TV room..be prepared for lots of questions from me as I can recall much about my modding days anymore!
  3. Hi, I've managed to do all of the steps to install the unleashedx softmod via usb and splinter cell, the ftp settings, placing the snes9x X folder in the correct location, and getting the emulator to show up on the console. All i had left to do is simply hit the A button on any one one of the Roms to start them up, and yet nothing happens when i do that? The A button works fine for literally everything else except starting the Roms. I'm hoping it's because i have an off brand madcatz controller, and not an original xbox controller. Or maybe it's something more simple than that? Corrupted Roms maybe?
  4. I won't bore anyone with the standard, introductory post, other than to say thank you to everyone on this and other forum who has helped me with my xbox repair and softmod instructions.
  5. Hi im looking to play the original Doom games on my Xbox, whats the best Dos emulator and will it run doom. Thanks for your advice.
  6. Hi there! My name is Jake, I just joined the forums to hopefully gain knowledge but I've been playing the original xbox since it came out. I think I was 10 or so, and I remember opening up my xbox in middle school but I never did anything serious with it. Well in the past year or year and a half I've started collecting the systems, I bought about 10 OG xboxs for cheap off craigslist, facebook, and ebay and Ive got around 30 controllers. Mostly everything works but there's a lot that can be fixed up with soldering and I have never soldered before. I want to start by making a USB adapter out of a DVD receiver and try fixing some of the controller wires. I also picked up 3 huge CRT tvs for free off craigslist and I have a LAN setup ready in my house at all times. I want to eventually softmod and hardmod some of my systems but I've never done any of this before so I turned to the best place for free informantion - the internet. I really need to spend less time on facebook so I'm willing to dedicate myself to this forum.
  7. Good evening. Just after a bit of advice please. Managed to get one of my xboxs soft modded successfully last night so very pleased with that. The query I have is the following. Opened up my translucent green xbox to clean it but noticed this chip installed. Am looking for any info please as to what it is and what I am able to do with it if you dont mind. The console was from a friend and he cant remember what it was installed for lol. Cheers
  8. Very new to the OG Xbox so am very much looking forward to being here and hoping to mod an xbox soon, well at least once I have worked out what I'm doing anyway lol. Currently own 2 black, 1 crystal and 1 crystal green Xbox's which all work apart from on of the black ones which has a dodgy power supply. Please be gentle with me if I ask what may be to you guys some silly or simple questions. Many thanks and look forward to being here
  9. Salutations! Many, many moons ago I mowed several thousand million lawns for a PlayStation 2. I loved every bit of it. Great memories, awesome games, years went by and the damn thing still works. I went into the army and after returning home from my second deployment I picked up all the consoles I grew up with and finally an OG Xbox. Man did I miss out. So, lesson learned there. Now I use my Xbox with unleash X to mainly play Battlefront I and II. I'm used to using my Pi 3 B+ for most of my emulation needs but then I discovered emulation on the Xbox and I am more than impressed. I would love to do a 2TB emulation box so I can share the "classics" with my son. I honestly don't think I have enjoyed a console as much as the OG Xbox in the last few years. I love modding things and learning about all the tech specs and limitations. All in all glad to be a part of this community!
  10. Good afternoon everyone. I'm putting games and emulators on my Xbox, I downloaded coinOPS and it has a lot of cool games on it, specially arcade games for a lot of hours of fun. Now I'm looking for an emulator of PSX and N64. I tried the PCSXBOX_v.23 with Vigilante 8 and Vigilante 8 2nd offense and it goes really, really slow. I changed some parameters of the emulator and there isn't improvement in the emulation. Anyone knows a better emulator or the correct configuration to play these games?
  11. hey to all, i used to mess around xbox some many years ago and now a friend brought me a v1.1 to fix and old memories came. looking fw to remember the old and discover the newest options for xbox
  12. Hello, found my original xbox 1.4 from back in highschool brought me back to the days when we had parties opening them up and modding them. Did some upgrades then I bought 3 more. Well I need the hexen disk and the site says I need to make 5 posts before I can download it to use on the xboxs unjust took apart and refurb.
  13. As the title suggests, this is a collection of mods for the Xbox version of GTA: Vice City. The aim of this mod was to fix a couple of bugs, to make what I feel are improvements to the game's overall presentation, and to provide a fresh, new visual experience for the same Vice City you know and love, while still maintaining what made the atmopshere and feel of the 1980s American beach city setting so enjoyable. Retaining immersion was also important. If it couldn't have existed in 1986, you won't find it here. Performance was also a key focus. While the Xbox version of Vice City is capable of displaying larger textures just fine, the texture work here was (mostly with very few exceptions) kept at the same resolution with the same compression method as the original textures, because you will run into performance issues, namely regarding pop-in, textures failing to load properly, and frame rate hiccups if you do decide to go with larger textures. In my testing, this wasn't something immediately noticeable in the early stages of the game. It only really becomes an issue when you're driving back and forth between the two islands, particularly late game when you own a lot of properties. This modification performs just as well as the original release from beginning to end. It is recommended that you play this mod in WIDESCREEN with TRAILS OFF. New Roads: Original textures replaced with textures made from real images of Miami roads. This solves the issue of the blurry roads in the original release and generally looks better all around. Sidewalks replaced as well. New particle effects: Particle effects replaced with more realistic representations. GTA III's Liberty City holdover leaves that once scattered the ground have been replaced with palm leaves, much like they appear in the PS2 version. This one small change in particular has a surprisingly large effect on the atmosphere of the world. New Duds: New Miami Vice inspired suits for Tommy and Lance. Most outfits have been changed. From pallette swaps to complete replacements, the new outfits fit the game's world while simultaneously referencing various films, TV shows, and video games along the way. Each outfit functions in cutscenes as well. New timecycle: More colorful days and darker nights. Nights actually feel like night time now. Make the neon of Vice City shine brighter than ever against these blackened night skies, and enjoy beautiful sunsets and sunrises. Fits the beach weather perfectly and looks great with the Xbox version's unique lighting system. New foliage: Fuller and more colorful foliage textures make Vice City come alive. The Xbox version has always had inferior foliage to the PS2 version, this fixes that issue. Bug fixes: PS2 animations, including idle animations missing from the Xbox release, have been restored. Tommy now gives an "up yours" gesture with his arms instead of flipping a nonexistent finger (another GTA III holdover) when standing in front of traffic. A bug preventing the acquisition of the Havana outfit after completing certain missions has been fixed, it is always accessible after having been unlocked now. The brass knuckles have been resized to not look so outlandishly large. Aiming sites for weapons like assault and sniper rifles have been adjusted to display correctly in widescreen mode. This means they display incorrectly in 4:3 mode, however. New animations: A few improved animation replacements for Tommy. He runs with single handed and two handed weapons in a more believable way now. Walking, idles, sprinting, and just about everything else has been kept vanilla for the sake of familiar game feel. Tommy still sprints as fast as he always has - something that's typically changed for the worse with animation mods. Female character models no longer dislocate their hips as they walk. Peds overall have new animation. They all walk a little slower now than before, but their animations look less rubbery. New pedestrians: About 85% of peds replaced with their VCS counterparts. These pedestrians are higher quality than the ones found in the original release of Vice City. Better quality texture work, more colorful outfits, and more diverse models. New surprises: I've thrown in a number of retextured areas and objects throughout the game. From small world objects to interiors, there's a number of new things to see for returning veterans. New weapon: The Ruger has been replaced with an AK-47. New HUD: The radar ring has been replaced with a new, original ring. Icons on the main HUD, map icons, and weapon icons have been replaced with their 10th Anniversary counterparts. The pause screen map has been replaced with the 10th Anniversary map. New text: A few lines in the game's american.gxt file have been modified to reflect some of the changes this modification brings. Mostly in terms of outfit and weapon names. Download INSTALLATION: 1. Extract folders to any directory of your choosing 2. FTP all folders from the archive into your GTA: Vice City root folder on your Xbox, choose to overwrite files in the process. 3. IMPORTANT: Delete GTA_VC.CAP.Final file from your GTA: Vice City root folder if it exists 4. Clear your Xbox's cache and start the game 5. Have fun There shouldn't be any issues with running this mod on existing save files. Feel free to report any bugs you see. What I'd like to change in the future: Improve widescreen mode from the existing pan 'n scan implementation Fix the alpha render state for the target lock and sniper dot
  14. Hello, I have noticed that my XBMC4GAMERS version hasnt updated for a while. I thought not much of it. Then i decided to try and download some homebrews and DLCs for some games i have. Whenever i chose something (mods, updates, emulators) it just shows 3 points moving, as if it were connecting or something, but nothing happens. I tried updating my Downloader, samething, no download or progress. I remember this used to work a few months ago. Is the service still up or is there something wrong with my xbox? My xbmc4gamers version is 1.2.122 I wish i could give you the version of my downloader but seems it cant be display. It reads "URLDownloader Version:" As if the numbers didnt fit in the screen even after changing the display settings. Thank you for any answer and to Rocky5, i know you read this all the time but thank you for creating this and keeping our consoles alive.
  15. Hi, everibody, Gotta a chipmodded/softmodded Xbox original. Try everything but: Max Payne 2 freezes in the same point of the game right in the begginin' when that little guy in a uniform, guides Max throug a trap and then the game freezes soon as all the hell's gonna breaks loose. Love this game, but it's freezin' at this point and I try EVERY versions (ntsc or pal from a to z), delete cache, fix date, turn igr on and off... an it freezes at the SAME POINT... nothing works. Ok. I can manage, I'll play on PC, graphics a lot better and got a 360 controller. But then, the same thing happens to X-Men Legends, just in one of the first danger room. Freezes AT THE SAME FREAKIN' POINT! Look all over forums and people with the same problem but find no one... got nothing. Thanks.
  16. Hi all, I decided to dig out my Xbox (v1.1) and mod it to turn it into a emulation station. Luckily I got it out at the correct time as I caught the clock capacitor just as it was beginning to leak. I have just finished soft modding it and soldering the tsop write access solder points. Unfortunately I have gotten caught out by the Phillips disk drive as it decided it didn't want run Hexen which I had burnt to a DVD RW. I don't have any DVD R at hand so I will have to postpone the tsop BIOS flash to tomorrow when I can get some DVD R's. Hopefully I should be able to finish modding the Xbox tomorrow with the tsop flash and install a larger hard disk. I just wanted to say hi to everyone in this great forum.
  17. Evening all I’m rather late to the party 15years at a wild guess! A simple loft clear out and low and behold my 1.1 from when I was a child came out of its box! No leakage from the clock capacitor which I couldn’t believe!! I have just completed a clock capacitor removal and Tsop all successful just thought I’d pop in and say hi!

  19. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyfbxuMgI4M&t=480sHello everyone! First post, and happy to be here. I want to share something that will add value to the community. I've put together a video tutorial on how you can install games directly to the XBOX HDD through the internet and FTP. All you'll need is your softmodded XBOX, an Ethernet cable, and the HDD Ready games you want on the HDD. You'll be up and running with it in no time. Full how-to video is below. Please let me know if this video helps you so that I can make XBOX content that makes your gaming experience more enjoyable. Thanks, Blaine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyfbxuMgI4M&t=480s
  20. Hey! My name is Murderbox, and I picked up an original Xbox a while ago in a trade. Got it soft modded and have a 1TB HDD installed. Completely new to this realm, but I've always wanted a modded system since I experienced a buddy's back in 05. I hope to learn a lot here and meet some new people! Seems pretty extensive.
