I recently tried to softmod my old xbox and bricked the hdd due to not ejecting the game disc in the end of the installation process. Now the dashboard is gone and I can't even boot retail games using the machine. I just bought an xbox with a modchip (xecuter 2) and I'm wondering if I could swap the hdd in the modded xbox with the bricked xbox and install the ms dashboard from a disc.

hi there, im sorry for my english i'm dutch so it's far from perfect. I have a problem with upgrading my hdd on my xbox classic, i saw on youtube that i can buy a sata hdd, a convertor to sata and a 80 wire cable. When the xbox starts i get error 16. My drive and the disc are good because with the original hdd it runs hexen 2019. Im a bit of a noob with this so please be gentle with me. I hope some one can help me

So I have a 1.0 with a dead HDD, I used PiPROM to recover the eeprom.bin so I can build a new drive. Is there a tutorial somewhere on adding a softmod directly to the new drive before I lock it?

Hi everyone, first sorry for my English but I'll try to do my best. I got a problem with softmoding my Xbox. I followed step by step all the instructions from tutorials to softmod my box and I'm in front of a problem I feel the only one who it happens. I'm in possession of a usb key 2Go and a usb/controller cable. I format it on my pc in fat, get in my box, got the error message then recognised by the box as memory card 2a, back in the pc using xplorer 360 to get the umod files in, and when back to the box, still recognising it as an empty memory card... Got another usb key, same process for same result... Any idea? For me it's only to emulate all old entertainment systems I got in my game room and avoid switching all the connections anytime I want to play from one to the other. I've been trying to install the Rocky5 softmod on a v1.6 and I keep hitting the same wall. I've scoured the forums and tried every suggestion found with no difference and I'm appealing for more ideas/suggestions. Using SC, I load the Linux profile and click the next screen for checkpoints, then screen goes black. There is no response or activity on the XBOX - no sound of drives moving, no change in LED color. I've waited some time and nothing more. - Swapped component and composite cables and 2 different TVs. Tried with component cable and set to "Normal", tried with composite cable - recopied the game save to USB and to XBOX hdd. -confirmed NTSC game version -tried with multiple SC saves (tested game, it works) and with none (original attempts and after deleting test profile) The version of SC will play - I made a new profile and started it, then deleted that profile. I know in advance that I should just put in a mod chip.... walking before I run Thank you Rocky5 for the hard work on the softmod and MrMario for the instructional video that I apparently needed. I copied some emulators through ftp to the G partition of my HDD, I was using WinSCP for this. When I finished, I closed the connection and then reset my Xbox with Lt+Rt+Back+Black; I got the Bios screen, the UnleashX boot screen (I'm using a custom skin, so the skin version of the boot screen appeared) and then...nothing, just a black screen. First I thought the video was bad, but that was not the case, then I tried to boot on safe mode but nothing happened. Some people on a subreddit tell me to use Hexen to install another dashboard, I don't know if this is going to work tho. Please, if you know what's wrong with my Xbox let me know, I'm scared

Hey guys. So I'm working on a softmod and I wanted to try the dual boot with different dashes, and controlling the boots with eject and power. Any help would be much appreciated.

Is there any way to know if the xbox is hardmoded/chipmod or softmoded without openning it? It has two boot options. 1 on the power button and the other on the eject button. One for unleashed and other one for xbmc Thanks

So I recently picked up two virgin OG Xboxes at a thrift shop. A rev 1.1 and 1.4-1.5. took apart cleaned and removed the dreaded clock capacitor. Both working. First time owning OG Xbox. Q: If I Softmod my OG Xbox with Rocky5 and want to add a 2TB HDD SATA (plus 80pin IDE ribbon, IDE to SATA adaptor and clone my old HDD to new HDD), can I do that directly or do I need to do a TSOP Flash too? I reviewed these two videos but no mention a Softmod HDD size limitations. My understanding is 2TB in the max. Came across this on another Xbox forum: guy tried to softmod with Rocky5's XBSMT using AUF. Installer worked to a point but at the stage where you're meant to reboot, eject the game disc and the softmod install completes he forgot to eject the AUF disc, it booted and the softmod did not complete. Result blank screen and from the sound of it the Xbox is still effectively in retail state but now without the retail MS dashboard. It cold boots original game discs including AUF but running the exploit again just reboots the console and the game reloads. It apparently won't cold boot burned discs, getting that confirmed just to be sure, but it means he can't use Rocky5's Xtras disc or any other recovery disc. The poster also said he tried to run a dash-updater afterwards to restore the original MS dash but 'it did not work'. I'm skeptical about that and am concerned it might have added another level of complexity to the problem. Likely no eeprom backup available but, again, that has to be confirmed. What to do? My thought in the absence of other better advice is to delete the AUF game saves and try with SC or MechAssault or TH4 but I know from my own experience that re-softmodding like that does not always work, the games have a tendency to reboot rather that launch the installer.

I appreciated everyone helping in the other thread to be me where I am on my old Xbox! I have a question regarding swapping drives. Here is what I have: XBOX A Old xbox originally soft modded in the early 2000's. Has a 200 GB drive in it with all my games. I have re-softmodded it to the Rocky Softmod. I did not Null the hard drive when i did the Rocly soft mod (I may have done it when i originally modded this thing 15+ years ago). Xbox B Xbox I just bought. Has the factory hard drive in it. I have used the Rocky soft mod on this box and have nulled the hard drive. Can I swap the hard drive from Xbox A into Xbox B by just disconnecting and plugging it in? I want to do this because Xbox A has corrosion issues and just randomly turns off. Should I null the hard drive in Xbox A before doing this? Any help would be appreciated!

Hello, I upgraded my chipped 1.6 Xbox 120GB hard drive to a 2TB... since I opened the Xbox I took the opportunity to clean it... the Xbox is chipped with a Matrix chip and it has the Xecuter 2 bios (15 years old)... I would like to know if there's a way for softmoding the Xbox and taking out the chip. I do not have the original hard drive. The reason is that after so many years it looks like the chip is kind of bending up and the pogo pins contact with the motherboard are not as good as before... thank you in advance for your help! next step is test a more modern dashboard as I have been using the UIX dashboard because it looked like the original Xbox dashboard... Hello!I am trying to softmod my original xbox.I tried to do it using this clip:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbSb7BFRQNo I did everything in the video correctly.So the problem is:I dont have ide ports on my motherboard so i tried using ide to sata adapter and when i plug it in my pc and turn it on,it shows in disk management as not initalized,but when i tried to use xplorer 360 it says could not find fatx drive.I tried with 2 hot swap techincs,setting compatibility to win xp sp3,running it as administrator,tried different programs.But nothing works.I dont have xbox friendly usb drive and i also dont have any game that has save game exploits.Sorry for bad english.

So im working with a v1.0 xbox and I am trying to install the img from a 2tb Origins build. I have my original HDD softmodded and it is working fine. I was able to null the original HDD key and pull the EEPROM off and after successfully mounting the img to a new 2TB HDD was able to lock it with the pulled EEPROM with XBHDM. When I turn on the system with the new HDD it will show the xbox logo with "Microsoft" in white on the bottom, then it goes to a black screen. The LED stays green. Looking around I saw suggested that this meant that the softmod or .xbe was broken or that the shortcut linked to the needed .xbe didn't exist, so using XBHDM and Xplorer360 i was able to get into the new HDD and I was messing around with the config and .xbe files and got it to work at one point (kinda, and i'm not sure what exactly made it work, i know i know i should have taken better notes of what i was doing but this was a several day process and I had tried like 50+ different modifications/combinations). It would boot into a black screen as normal but when i opened up the disk drive the screen would flash and I would get another xbox logo splash screen without the Microsoft in white on the bottom, the LED would turn orange, and then it would boot up into the new dashboard/image. That worked fine for a few hours, even after disconnecting power and reconnecting. Then all of the sudden it stopped going to the new dashboard and img when opening the disk drive and the screen will stay black (i figured it may be an issue with taking a long time to load so i've let it sit there for 15min+ and nothing happens). I am at a complete loss, im somewhat tech savy but I have no idea how to even approach this fix. Any help would be much appreciated and I thank you in advance! Edit - I used the Splintercell save to softmod via USB, which worked fine to softmod with the old HDD. With the new HDD in it will not load any disks, be it the Splinter Cell game, Hexen Tools, or the Rocky5 Softmod Extras, and I cannot do anything but power off when its on the black screen.

Hi, so I decided to update my softmod using Rocky5 softmod update v1.1.7 all good apart from I'm only getting 45Gb on drive F and no drive G it's a v1. 2 xbox with a 150Gb hard drive with Null Eprom. What's the best plan off attack, can I just use xbpartitioner and format F and create a partition G. I don't mind loosing what's on the HD. I have all the installer disks, any ideas please guys I would really appreciate your advice.

Hello, I recently got two broken Xboxes and was able to build a working console from both. The Xbox has a softmod and I'm thinking about flashing the bios. How do I do that best? It is a XBOX version 1.4 (Winbond) and I would like to transfer everything via FTP, because I don't have a DVD burner. I have read something about HeXEn and Tsop but I am now rather confused. Can I also bottle the Bios over FTP, if so how? Do I have to remove the softmod and is it still possible via FTP after flashing? Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone. I've asked this question on FB, but would like to verify with this crowd here. I have softmodded an v1.6 using Rocky5 most recent version. I would like to swap to a 2TB SATA drive. I understand this can be done with a hot swap, cloning the original drive with chimp and then formatting with xb partitioner. Is this correct? Why does this work if the bios is supposed to need LBA-48 to see a large drive? Is it because each partition is small enough to not need LBA-48? Thanks in advance.

So I have a v1.6 softmodded system currently. Do I need to uninstall my softmod if I want to install an Aladdin XT chip? I want to upgrade my system to a 2TB SATA drive. I'm convinced this would be safer for the Xbox's longevity. After I get the Aladdin installed, can I just swap to the 2TB drive, and use Hexen to format the drive as a fresh system?

I have a xbox. I softmodded then removed softmod. All went well. Softmodded with unleashx and later removed. All was fine. Then yesterday went to softmod with sid. In middle of process or at end xbox shuts down like normal. Then turned back on and now red/green flashing ring and video is not working. Any ideas? I have tried letting the clock reset but made a sure not to leave the console off more than about 5 to 10 minutes. I have left it on all night trying to find a solution. I am worried if I unplug it or power it off much longer it may turn into a brick. Any ideas? I loaded and backed up everything correctly. I have 2 video cables and checked that as well and no dice any help would be appreciated. The video im sure went out with the new softmod install. Not sure why. Any help would be appreciated. Id rather fix than throw it at the wall lol.

I've been reading through some threads and have seen many times that Rocky5's softmod is the best one to use. I have an Xbox that's TSOP flashed already, but I want to replace an ancient hotswap softmod on my 1.6, and installing Rocky5's with the Splinter Cell exploit over it doesn't seem to be working properly. I end up getting errors or the Xbox freezes after the press A screen, which I'd imagine is the old softmod conflicting with it. If it needs to be removed first, how should I go about doing so? It's probably a stupid question, but I'm afraid I'll brick it by doing something stupid, then end up having to hotswap again to fix it. Another thing is that I plan to flash my other stock V1.0 after I replace the PSU, I'd assume I have to install the softmod on that too so I can flash the TSOP, after bridging the points of course. Then afterwards the softmod can be deleted.

I have a 1.6 xbox that i softmodded using rockys softmod, this somehow suffered an error 16 (cant set clock). I fixed it by using my x3 box to rebuild the hdd (both boxes have nulled keys) after rebuilding the box back to stock by ftping the Clean C and E files to the hdd i put it back in the 1.6 box and booted. All worked perfectly, i set the clock and re softmodded, ftp'd some games, emus and apps across and all was good. However it had been unplugged for the night last night, plugged it in this morning and booted and got the damn error 16 again. I though 1.6 xbox's didnt suffer the same capacitor problem as the older boxes and also that rockys softmod avooided the clock issue?? Any ideas anyone before i go through the whole rebuild process again??
