I've got 4 Xboxes I've softmodded for my family using Rocky's softmod tool, and I nulled the keys as well during that process (all zeros, but will soon upgrade to all ones to be compatible with Insignia - hopefully its an easy process to upgrade the softmod dashboard/tool). I currently have a larger drive in one of them that has the dashboard, emulators, and games set up just the way I want it. I want to put larger hard drives in the other three and have all four be the exact same setup. Rather than cloning the stock hard drive to a larger drive during the upgrade process and then spending the lengthy time FTPing over the hundreds of MB's of data with the data rate transmission limitations and drop outs inherent with FTP, since all the XBOX's have nulled keys I was planning on just taking the larger drive I've already set up and cloning it 3 times - and then putting those cloned drives into the other 3 xboxes. Much simpler and quicker. However, with Insignia needing the Serial Number, HDD Key, and Online Key for each Xbox would cloning a hard drive from one xbox and putting that newly created hard drive into another xbox change the way the serial number or online key is read in the "newly upgraded" Xbox and make it incompatible with Insignia? Or does it not matter as it will just pull the serial number and online key from the mobo and doing what I described above will still be compatible with Insignia? Thanks all!

Weird problem I came across which I thought was an old softmod issue which chipping (Aladdin XT Plus + new BIOS) might fix on a v1.1. It hasn't. 160GB HDD, F:\ correctly formatted and every app I have in F:\Apps that I've tested boots without issue except for an UnleashX v584 one. I've copied in known working replacements from a variety of sources and they all just hang at the load screen. No skins being used, default Config.xml and Item.xml too. But move that same default.xbe to C:\ or E:\ and it works perfectly. Second problem, which is more serious, is that no generic MS dash stockfiles will work. I tried using them from E:\Backup and they momentarily flash the MS dash background before crashing to an error 21 screen. This is what happened when it was softmodded done using a very old version of SID which included a 5960 Patch you had to use to get the softmod to work. Much later I discovered only this Xbox's original C:\ drive files work as a MS backup and so I have had to preserve them carefully. I have another softmodded Xbox done with a later SID which by luck is a v1.1, identical 4817 retail BIOS version too. Even though that doesn't have the problems I could share files like the UnleashX v584 ones and its own C:\ drive MS dash XBE or full backup and they would work. But now after I cleaned up the HDD for use with the chip the files from that Xbox won't work either. I can't think what might cause these problems, which I'm sure are related. Any ideas?

Hello everyone, I just bought my very first Xbox console ever a month ago. Yup, 20 years too late to the party. Never owned a 360 or Xbox One either, although I just ordered a refurbished 360 Slim two days ago. Have otherwise been a PlayStation fanboy all this while, although my primary console of choice these days is the Sega Saturn. Anyway, greetings from Malaysia! Are there other Malaysian members here?

All, i just recently resurrected my old modded xbox. I upgraded the HDD and used Hexen to set everything up. Everything seems to work great except that any changes from the dash in UnleashX will not save. Once rebooted, everything reverts. However if i FTP into it, and make changes from the config.xml file, those take. I would rather not have to do it that way. Any suggestions on what i can do?

Hello everyone, i'm new on the scene and a month ago i started with my first modded xbox project. I'm from the Netherlands and have a pal 1.6 hardmod xbox with EVOX M8 bios. I make it to ntsc so i can use all hd modes and using the pound hdmi cable. My goal is to have a xbox with all games that where release on it on 1 disc. So i put a Seagate 3TB disc so i get the max of 2TB and use xbmc4gamers as dash. I found almost all games now, its a pretty challenge to fit them all (using soms ntsc instead of pal games or deleting all un needed files ). i'm now in the mode to test al games (i start the game and go to the first level) and now i''m on the letter c with the club football games. There are around 36 titles (2003 and 2005 versions) but non of them starting. When i started it it goes to a black (blank) screen and nothing happend. I try different sources from games, all the same. Patching ith with 480p loader has no effect. I can find an ACL patch and default patching doesn't work. I don't think it's a image problem, because all club football editions don't start. All other games (so far i tested, now about 200 games) are starting fine (sometimes with patching or finding an other source\version of the game). Any idea how i can start these games to work? just got one from goodwill it powers on as soon as its plugged it. i opened up and removed clock cap but still same thing. guess i gotta look for some bad traces now. wish me luck. trying to get my 6 and 8yr kids interested in it.

G'day guys, Just a quick one, Today I aquired a Crystal XBOX, I was under the impression they were all 1.6 but after I soft mod'd its ID'ing it as a 1.4? From what I have read this may mean its actually a 1.5 as it was manufactured in 2004. So I know I need to pull the clock cap (which appears dead anyway) But I have opened her up and thankfully no damage to the board that I can see but its a different cap layout to the ones I have pulled before. Or is this actually a 1.6 and I can leave it be? So can you confirm its this cap I need to pull out? As you can see the board is totally filthy so tomorrow I intend on pulling the cap and giving it a good blow out Cheers.

Hi From France, I am a new comer. I am in love with retro gaming and i have many systems (SEGA, NINTENDO, ATARI, COMMODORE, MSX, THOMSON). Recently i decided to start to collect XBOX games (the original). I now have two PAL XBOX that seems to be 1.6 version. I have the project for hard modding there XBOX'S with a Aladdin chip + 2TB hard disk. Since i am new i am a bit lost and i would require your help for this project to have your advises. Firstly i am locked for downloading Hexen software, it looks like i am not allowed. Can you please help me to unlock the download section?

Hello everyone! This is my first post, so apologies if it’s formatted incorrectly. I’m currently having a tough time trying to diagnose what could be causing my Xbox to output a wobbly video signal as seen here. I’ve tried -swapping power supplies -replacing the 5 caps near the cpu -giving the board and console a deep clean I’m thinking maybe it’s a grounding issue? Or perhaps the video encoding chip is about to die? Honestly I’m at a loss. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you guys.

Hello all, just wanted to say this site is amazing. I am just getting into modding consoles and everything I searched led me here so here I am lol. My first mod will be the open xenium chip which, I am awaiting delivery, and replacing failing capacitors on a Halo edition green 1.6 xbox. I have been tinkering and fixing things all my life and had heard of modding consoles, I have just never really tried to do any of it. After deciding to breath new life into my wife's childhood console, the more I dug the more I found you could do to this thing. She doesn't really like modern gaming titles so I want to load this thig up with emulators so she can enjoy gaming as much as I do. If anyone has any suggestions or would like to give advice I will definitely welcome it all. Also if someone could point me in the direction of the site rules and specified posts needed for using all features of the site that would be great. Thank you for the wealth of knowledge, I hope to become a regular here.

Hey, Been lurking for a while and decided to get myself two crystal xboxes for 100€. Both are 1.6 and one of them is in almost pristine condition while the other one isn't. Been cleaning them for a couple days now. Is there a way to get the yellowish tint off the clear plastic? IPA has helped but doesn't fully do the job. Excited to be a part of this community

Hi, I was just given a couple of hardmodded xbox's by a family member. Looking at what to do with them as I haven't owned an xbox in 15 years. Stumbled across this site which looks like a great resource. It's only been a day but I have already opened one box up (build September 2002), removed the clock capacitor (which has already leaked and damaged the power button and eject trace), and replaced the thermal compund. I'm here to learn so I will get back to it. Thanks to all the contributors.

i'm ftp'ing a bunch of games to my xbox. it has auto shutoff twice now and it is kind of annoying. how do i stop it from shutting itself off?

i first installed an aladin chip in the xbox cause i had one laying around. xbox worked great with it. my open xenuim chip came today so i installed it. the ox menu comes up when i boot the console but i have no idea how to get the hexen2020 disk to boot with it so i can install the os. please help.

Found this beauty of a xbox site trough Google. was searching for updates on HeXEn, and found this site. I have 4 or 5 classic xboxes that I want to give a second chance. they are there for 2 years now, the crystal from day one it came out. I restore them clean them install chips, and then the dashboards and coins systems. Hope to learn a thing or 2 here!

Hi there, a couple of days ago I unpacked my XBOX Classic (waiting in a box scince my last move 5 years ago and purchased in 2004 with 128MB Ram and a smartXX 2.0 Modchip) and it brings back a lot of good memories. But it seems that I have forgotten quite everything - so hopefully I will learn the old and the new stuff about this great console. Greetings from Germany

Hey guys, Reaching out as i was hoping you could help. A couple years back i bought another x3 modded xbox and it turned out the chip was faulty. Recently i have decided to revisit this and see if its possible to get this chip working. It is installed in a 1.6 version xbox. So far i have swapped the x3 from another 1.6 box and was able to transfer the fault between machines so i know its the modchip. I am getting the 3.3v and 5v lights on the chip, and the bank switcher lights and button functions are working. I cannot get onto the backup nand either. I have a feeling the previous owner corrupted the main nand as I am unable to flash any bios to the chip. xblastos detects the chip as an xecuter 3 but no other apps can see it. Just wondering what is left to do? is there a utility that defaults the nand or can recover from a suspected bad flash? Out of my depth here now, as i've owned numerous x3 boxes over the years but none have ever given me any hassle. Hope you guys can help. Cheers!

If i flash a bios with the skip dvd check will i still be able to boot from dvd on a blank harddrive?

i know the drive from a 360 will not work with an og xbox but are there any parts from a 360 drive that would work? for example, would certain lasers like the SOH-DX1 from a 360 drive work in an og xbox drive that has the same model laser?
