Emustation troubles with SegaCD

Hey guys. I’m making another console for someone that wants all emulators and Roms. I don’t much with Emustation and Roms these days so I’m obviously a little out of the loop. The scanner recognized the games however, they are an absolute mess in the games list and unfortunately don’t even work. I’ve tried putting all files into one folder named after the .cue file, but that just reboots Emustation as well. How in the world do you get this game list organized and rid the list of many multiple files?

I had trouble with this also. I ended up using Hazeno's files for that emulator. All I can say is make sure you have the right emulator, there are 2 different ones, and an option to use bin/cue/iso in the settings. Hazeno is on the xbox scene discord if you want to ask if he still hosts his drive. I reformatted my pc and forgot to save bookmarks. His whole Emustation pack is maybe 150GB.

I’ve tried both available emulators from the downloads section. Both have the same result. This actually is the complete pack uploaded by Hazeno. It’s 250GB in all, for all the emulators and Roms. I hate to have to download another set and go through this again. I know it’s not a lot of bandwidth, but I’m so done with fooling with this thing lol. It’s literally the only rom set that doesn’t work.

It's been a few years since I grabbed his set, sounds like he added to it. One thing I remember doing on a few of his Sega CD games was renaming the bin's to match the cue's that didn't match. This removed the hundreds of duplicate names in the game list. But when I did that, the synopsis went away. I just quit messing with it, the game list was what bugged me.

By default it looks for “CUE/CCD/CHD/ISO”, you need to toggle the setting for “ISO/BIN/IMG/MP3” in the scanner menu. If using the Xbox set that’s online (it’s MP3 + ISOs)

Only the ISO/BIN/IMG/MP3 stuff is folderised. If they aren’t it’s done automatically. Everything else just goes in the segacd folder.

You don’t do anything else, don’t touch names or bin files as you will need to fix them in the cue files.

CHD are the simplest to use as they are self contained.

All the artwork is setup for the ressurectionxtras stuff. So you will need to scrape your own artwork or rename you files to match that.

The emulators on the downloader are different, both will load ISOs but one uses MP3 and the other uses WAV files and supports more formats. (Default emu is for ISO+MP3 (I think), so you will need to download the new one to run different formats)

I went back and put them into folders and it cleaned up the files a bit although some still had multiple thumbnails. Still none of them will boot.

If you renamed any of the bins you’ll have to edit the cue file with the updated name. That’s what I had to to with the psone emulator anyway. Figured it was the same with sega cd emu when you change bin names. Didn’t know if you’d done that already or not.

Edit: Just saw Rocky5 replied so I’m late on that one. Lol

I didn’t change anything at first. I did have it set to scan for iso files and without. Neither setting changed the outcome. I then tried a completely different rom set. I tried the older Ressurection set of .iso and .mp3 files in folders. I switched emulators to neogenesis again and it of course fixed all the artwork and only showing one game file in the list. However, none of them will load still. I’m about to just omit SegaCD and tell them I tried lol.

Ok what are the set you used? Artwork has to match the name of the cue/chd/iso file or it won’t be used. I will hopefully change that at some point but will require fuzzing and will add time to the scanning if I do that. (It’s already long if doing large systems)

If you used cue/bin files then the original emulators was the wrong one and it won’t load those files, you would need to download the specific on off the downloader.

You’re the only one I have seen who is having this problem. I did have someone else on GitHub report (last week) an issue but they had the IOS/BIN/IMG/MP3 toggle enabled so it wasn’t detecting their CHD files. (It was user error here)

Check the names and paths set in the dot cue files.  I've seen many with the wrong filenames/paths for the dot bin file.  I don't know how this could happen since the dot cue and dot bin files were distributed together.

I ended up wiping it all clean and starting from scratch on another console, using the old Ressurections Pack of .iso and mp3. After toggling to scan for those, it works fine. Still has a few duplicate icons, but I don't see any way to avoid that when there are multiple discs per game. At least the games are working now. Using the Hazeno rom set, they just didn't work properly for artwork or gameplay. I may end up redoing this entire xbox since it's been struggling with other things also. It takes forever to scan for xbox games when I know it shouldn't.

I had that in mind, but at the same time didnt want to see 10+ files on the game list all for the same game. Thankfully I never was a SegaCD fan and won't have to worry with it going forward.

I get that. Hell I owned a segacd back in the day (the first round when it was that monster add on to the genesis that was the size of a skateboard) and I never even bothered with the emulator. Lol. I started to years ago and then stopped because there was really only one game I could think of that I might actually replay (Lunar) and it didn’t seem worth the bother. I mean Sonic CD was fun but really didn’t have any huge improvements over the cartridge based version. I honestly couldn’t think of any worth my time. Lol

Glad burning it down and redoing it worked at least! :)

Is the xbmc option to scan xbox games fast enabled. I forget what it's called.

I agree with nikey about Xenons emu packs, very good. Just install in F/Emulators and that's it. He sets it up. He has about 11 packs that I know of. Emuxtras.net.

@MadMartigan have you seen the Genesis pack from XenonXyanide over at emuxtras?

It has a fully curated set of games and contains the Sega cd roms too, all with configs set up to play at the absolute best they can on an Xbox console.

I joined up and found the thread you’re talking about. I don’t see a download link anywhere though. Could you DM that to me if you happen to have access to it?

You can find it on backups.... or.... Gimme a while and ill pop into my onedrive for you. The packs are held on the emuxtras ftp for a while but not forever due to limited space..

Let me know if you grab it from backups or you want me to link you direct :)

EDIT- I have Pm'd you a link for the Genesis set.
