Bowlsnapper
Works great. Might start making them standard. Sounds a HELL of a lot better than the analog audio!
SS_Dave
My version 1.6 has been like that for years Coax audio and component to the AV receiver then HDMI to the TV The friends used to comment of the sound of the games. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
fox
hmm, clean work, I would like to hear the difference, my only audio gear is a pair of prehistoric receivers I found on a curb with no coaxial

It made the Xbox a viable music player. The audio output was unlistenable before. Digital signal all the way to the DAC of your choice. Even a 20 dollar DAC sounds better than anything I can possibly do with the line-level signal coming from the A/V.
brooselee
Back in my 20's I had my box hooked up to a projector with monster component and used the toslink/optical for a full 5.1 surround sound. I sold audio/video at the time. The setup was legit. 4 player death matches, but everyone still had a 55" screen. The 5.1 setup was friggen awesome.

I didn't really comment on this, but it's interesting that you have both analog and digital audio hooked up to the receiver. In what situations do you use the analog? Is the HDMI native, or converted from analog?
GoTeamScotch
Oh man, I remember doing this mod when I was a teenager when I was maybe 15 years old on my first full-build mod. I only had A/V cables at the time but getting 5.1 surround sound was (and still is!) an awesome feature for these consoles to have, especially considering the competition didn't have true surround sound (ps2 had pro logic II, but that's it). Playing games in surround sound and listening to FLACs at high fidelity helps keep these old units relevant, even in 2023. I have my full music library loaded onto mine and still use it to this day. These days I use an HDMI converter (by Chimeric Systems) for the convenience of it, but it's the same digital signal either way. Good on msft for future-proofing these consoles 20+ years ago.

Wow, man. It was literally in the same spot that I put mine. Not that it can really go anywhere else, but wow the same exact spot.

The receiver then converts to HDMI to send to the screen. The TV is really just a FTA tuner and a screen with the receiver switching from a Cambridge music sever for just audio and STB for streaming music videos with all audio signals being digital.
