About Me

  1. So its been awhile since I've gotten back into the modding scene, but followed some of the tutorials, and was able to get a donor DVD drive to get my modding to occur. The error I'm getting is when disconnecting the DVD drive from the IDE cable, I get the Cerbios Error 13 code and it reboots into safemode selecting UDMA 2 (which is the default for what I configured in the Cerbios tool anyways) and never is able to boot to the dash. If I have the DVD drive IDE cable connected (no power or with power, either or), it will boot to the dash. My goal is to make this a slim boot, and I need to use the DVD drive in another console, so I want the ini or bios configured to bypass the configuration. So the basics: 1.1 TSOP Cerbios 2.4.2 (up to 1mb by copying the export from the configuration on Cerbios Tool) Using stock IDE cable for the configuration and a 4TB with Startech adapter. Adapter jumper set to Master config (also tried as cable select but same issue) Flashed worked fine, boots to Dashboard no problem with DVD Drive connected and 4TB drive. Config file loaded into C drive and its contents below ; Cerbios Config ; Check For AV Pack AVCheck = true ; LED Ring Color, G = Green, R = Red, A = Amber, O = Off FrontLed = GGGG ; Fan Speed 0 = Default, 10-100 = Manual Control, Supports increments of 2's FanSpeed = 0 ; Drive Setup ; 0 = HDD & DVD, 1 = HDD & No DVD (Legacy Mode), 2 = HDD & No DVD (Modern Mode), 3 = Dual HDD ; I have tried this with both 1 and 2, no difference made DriveSetup = 1 ; Set UDMA mode 0-6 On Cold-Boot UDMAMode = 2 ; Set Master Drive UDMA mode 0-6 on cold-boot UDMAModeMaster = 2 ; Set Slave Drive UDMA mode 0-6 on cold-boot (if enabled by DriveSetup = 3) UDMAModeSlave = 2 ; Enables Automatic Time Sync With Optional RTC Hardware Connected to SMBus RTCEnable = false ; Forces AV Modes That Would Normally Be Rendered At 480i to 480p.Requires 480p Set In MS Dash And Component Cables Force480p = false ; Forces VGA Modes For Component Cables Or Custom VGA Cables Using Mode(2 + 3) for VGA Displays Only, This Enables Force480p By Default & Sets Console To NTSC ForceVGA = false ; Load XDK Launcher/XBDM if it exists (Debug Bios Only) Debug = false ; Blocks Games From Updating The Original Xbox Dashboard, Useful for softmods BlockDashUpdate = false ; CD Paths (always falls back to D:\default.xbe) CdPath1 = CdPath2 = CdPath3 = ; Dash Paths (always falls back to C:\xboxdash.xbe) DashPath1 = C:\evoxdash.xbe DashPath2 = C:\avalaunch.xbe DashPath3 = C:\nexgen.xbe ; Boot Animation Path (always falls back to C:\BootAnims\Xbox\bootanim.xbe) BootAnimPath = C:\BootAnims\XBOX\bootanim.xbe Thanks for the help in advance.
  2. Hey all, tl;dr Started to recap my 1.4, testing as I went. Board eventually started to 3 boot frag, cannot get it to recover. Did I break it beyond repair? So, I replaced the power supply that I accidentally blew up and all was good. Since I noticed that the caps by the CPU were bulging, I figured I might as well replace them before going any further so I ordered a full board cap kit from Console5. I've recapped other devices before, but I guess I must have been lucky because this gave me problems immediately. The multi-layer board and large ground planes made it extremely difficult to get caps out and clear the vias of left over solder. I don't have a hot air station or board pre-heater or anything like that which I'm sure would have made things much easier (one bedroom apartment with two people and a cat, space is at a premium). Since I was afraid I was doing damage to pads/internal board layers getting caps and solder out, I made sure to test the system after replacing every few caps. I decided not to do the whole board since I was having difficulty, and would stop after these last few. Well, after replacing those last few the system no longer boots. Here's what I'm getting: The first few times I tried booting, I got the 3 boots and FRAG. I reflowed some solder on questionable joints and got a solid green light, but no AV (seems to indicate inability to load a BIOS). Unplugged my modchip, but same issue. While not impossible, it seemed unlikely that both the onboard BIOS (this board was previously TSOPed) and the modchip BIOS would be corrupted so I felt I must have done too much board damage somewhere and maybe destroyed an internal trace or something. After going back and forth checking all the caps I replaced and even trying to solder from the top side to ensure a through-and-through connection (please, forgive me), I wound up at: 3 boot FRAG when modchip installed, but solid green no AV with modchip uninstalled. This led me to think that maybe there was an issue with the LPC though I hadn't touched that area since I originally installed the pin header 4 years ago. I reflowed those joints and moved the D0 wire from the Aladdin chip to a ground/screw hole on the board. Continuity between LPC pins and their respective traces check out fine on my multi meter. Now I get 3 boot frag with or without the modchip plugged in. Anyone have any advice or see anything in the pictures that I don't? Any help is appreciated. Pictures: https://imgur.com/a/WEKo0vb The caps circled in blue at the ones I replaced and was able to still boot after. The ones in red are the last ones I replaced, no booting since replacing them. All other caps are original.
  3. The title pretty much says it all. The DVD drive on my Xbox refuses to open if there's no game in it. I have to manually open it up - taking it out of its metal housing does the trick - to have it slide out the tray when there's no disc in there. Nothing moves at all, so far as can be seen. I hear some mechanism at least trying to work, but the tray doesn't budge. If there is a game disc in there, it opens normally. I can only conclude that the extra weight of the disc does something, but I'm far from an expert. I and a few other amateur handymen in my family have had a look at the mechanism and couldn't find anything amiss. None of us have ever worked on something like this before, so it's very possible we overlooked something. Does anyone have a clue what might be going wrong and/or how I can solve the problem?
  4. Just picked up a really clean console from Goodwill with a well installed xecuter 2.6. Unfortunately I can’t get anywhere with it. Stock dash will not load when chip is off. Throws an error 16. I’ve tried locked and unlocked. Neither get passed error screen. With the chip on and in bank 2, it will boot in flashbios 3.0.3, but will not accept a bios in any way. There are two that appear to be saved on the HDD also. Every way I’ve tried so far either fails or says “bios update found… Halting!” And then nothing. Chip protection is off during all of this also
  5. Hi, So i have installed an old duo x2 modchip in a stock xbox and the loading screen says evox in the corner so i imagine i've done it correctly. I plan to set up a new sata drive using my pc and have researched how to do this. My remaining question is, i want to use cerbios, and fatxplorer wants to know if i'm using cerbios when formatting the new drive. Is there a way for me to update the bios on the modchip to cerbios, without an installation disc? Can this be done with a usb drive or by plugging the xbox directly into my pc via ethernet?
  6. Come on people its been more than 25 years. I am tring to recover a game save on hdd without the key. I just bought a usbadapter that came in today. no problem. I then went to download something to view the unique file structure. I had to pay $25! Now it turns out that I still need the HDD key. I tried both the generic ones for Western Digital and Seagate with no success. YOU MEAN TO TELL ME I HAVE TO MAKE AN ENTIRE PROGRAM JUST TO UNLOCK MY HARD DRIVE AND KEEP MY GAME SAVES. ARRRRGGGHHH. YOU NERDS USED TO BE ON POINT. Whatever dude.
  7. I want to change the hdd of my xbox with an ssd, because the optical drive is not working, but I know that I need the EEPROM to trick the xbox into thinking that the ssd is its original drive, but I dont really know how to do it without installing a custom firmware on the hdd and then be able to use an FTP to get it (the stock firmware doesn't allow the xbox to connect to a pc via ethernet). Then the only other way to do that is "hotswapping" but it requires an old computer with IDE connections but it's a bit difficult to find one. so if there is another way of doing this, let me know to try it Thank you in advance
  8. The .xbe file format seems to be reverse engineered, but as far as actually compiling them goes, you still need to use Microsoft's official tools from 2003? Which also means not being able to use modern C/C++ features...? I'm having a hard time believing this. Are my Googling skills just bad, or has nobody bothered to fork gcc or clang or modern?
  9. I'm just wondering if an XBlast Lite is required for the TSOP features or if the os will see a 1mb TSOP and options for TSOP management should appear... Or would the chip have to have a certain cpld and I would have to program it first?
  10. I got tomcat's XBlast to revive my coma console. I've determined that the TSOP is corrupt. I would like to flash it, if possible. I don't have a softmod kit, and I don't have a SINGLE Original Xbox game, much less any exploitable ones. This console needs a lot of work, so I would rather TSOP flash it than put a chip in it. I don't even have a HDD yet... still waiting for my check. Can I use the 2021 OGXbox installer disc and the XBlast to flash my TSOP? I understand I might have to use a softmod installation, but do I really need a stupid game? Please help me out here Can I just use the Softmod mode of the OGXbox installer? Edit: No I can't. The softmod mode isn't what I thought it was. Horsefuck. I need to come up with the simplest way to TSOP my consoles as possible. Guess I'll have to use the Sweetdardestiny method. lol. Guess I'll have to buy a softmod kit off ebay.
  11. I have a Tuscany PSU that is a 1.6 version and I wanted to know can this be tested with out the xbox? The 5VSTB (reds) on the 20 pin connector is measuring 3.9V. Is this normal if not connected to xbox?
  12. Hey, I've done a RAM upgrade on one of my consoles (1.4) and it's doing the on/off/on/off/on flash orange and red dance. I've reflowed the chips, scoured them with a magnifying glass for bridging and the rest of the board for splashes, and scrubbed the board with IPA hoping that if it was a splash, it'd be knocked loose, but I've had no luck. I'm at the point where I think it might just be some bad memory, so what would be the best way to remove the chips without damaging or moving the surrounding components?
  13. 1. Can the metal parts be separated from the housing without damaging the metal parts? and metal parts will not rust, but I want to clean the top case 2.With that said, what's a good technique for THIS case Crystal cleaning? 3.the casing is not yellow, but i want to clean it once and for all Anyone care to share their experience? p.s sorry, i don't speak english, just that is what google translate says
  14. Was doing a clear out and find an board under my desk that still boots but I'm missing the original HDD. I tried all the HDD's I got but they all gave error code 6 which I understands the board was unable to unlock the HDD. I've Aladding XT and Open xenium chips, can I install either to get around the HDD and flash the tsop or its never gonna happen without the orignal HDD?
  15. Growing up as a wee gaming lad, my first home console was the ever cheap PS2 Slim with a PAID demo disc from Circuit City (Shoutout to Jampack Volume 13). Even as I amassed my collection of games, I was envious of the competition from Nintendo, since the funny cube had the cool italian guys, & I didn't. but then there was the Xbox, something that seemed so powerful & complex, I avoided it entirely out of fear & confusion (mostly confusion). However, I had multiple cool uncles who played classics like Halo, Doom 3, & Jedi Knight Academy on their individual Xboxes. Every single time I saw them play these titles, I was floored by their visuals, the gameplay on display, & the fact it was all coming out of this hulking THING that I knew was just better than my PS2 in every way, including physically if my PS2 was forced to do a trust fall with Xbox. Fast forward to the present, & for the past 6-7 months, I've been on an absolute spree on collecting Xbox Classics, controllers, accessories, & multiple Xboxes themselves after learning how varied the modding scene for the Green Box actually is. After spending over a decade completely ignoring the brick that I so deeply admired, the goal is to honor it's legacy by cleaning up any Xbox that I find a good deal for, learn what makes them tick, mod them to smithereens, & of course, play. The true first Xbox doesn't deserve to be forgotten.
  16. Title is pretty self-explanatory. I have a 1.6 chipped with an OpenXenium and some games are absolutely unplayable thanks to the 480p scrambling issue. The general consensus seems to be to use XBMC4Gamers to patch the files, but I'm an UnleashX puritan and would like to avoid having to use a whole other separate dash to play only a handful of troublesome games. If anyone knows of a method of accomplishing this without XBMC I'd greatly appreciate it.
  17. Hello, Wondering is there any bios that will boot and function without working eeprom? Thanks
  18. Hello everyone, A while back I bought a couple of Xbox's 1.0 , 1.3 & a 1.6 . Fixed the first two up and running , now the last one turns on and off 3 times, then flashes red/green without video, previous owner says it had the error 06 but for me It doesn't give a video signal at all. A visual inspection of the board for any bulged capacitors shows no obvious faults, although I am aware that sometimes with an ESR meter (which i dont have) you can tell which is good and which is bad. I'm using a component cable and the V1.6 xbox is a PAL unit and the hard drive inside is definitely not stock 160GB storage and no hard mod is installed. A quick search gives me the idea that its probably the eeprom ( dead or corrupted ) if that is the case and assuming i have no backup as i do not know what the previous owner did to it, what should i do ? if not any ideas what should i check / do to troubleshoot the problem ? . I have a Rpi , arduino and an old eeprom universal flasher ( i will check if it supports the chips ). Oh and i have an Aladdin XT PLUS2 on hand if that would help , but kindly note that I have never used them before but if someone has a guide that would be appreciated as well. Best Regards SP
  19. Hi, Today a colleague and I replaced the DVD drive in my Xbox 1.6 with a cross-flashed GDR 8163B. Unfortunately we were a bit careless with the connections on the bottom of the DVD controller board and ripped off the solder pad for READY. The drive works to an extent regardless, I can launch games when they're inserted at boot and Video DVDs also work in XBMC. The drive status in EvoX dash is constantly "Ejecting" as it seems. Now, the only thing that bugs me is that the Xbox's LED is constantly blinking (alternating orange/red). It only stops blinking while the tray is out. It's probably confused because the pin is not connected and it thinks the drive is getting ready all the time. Am I right to assume that the blinking is done entirely in hardware? I couldn't find any LED setting code related to it in the kernel. Can somebody tell me what kind of signal the Xbox motherboard is expecting for the ready pin? Can I solder it to ground to stop the blinking but keep things working?
  20. I've got 2 XBOX's and one works perfectly and that's the one with a Xenium Ice chip in it, the other has an Aladdin chip I think, I can't recall as it was done about 15 years ago The chip requires that you hold down the power button for about 2 seconds to turn the mod chip on and boot the Xbox to UnleashX. If you don't hold the power button down the screen just goes to no signal and the Xbox doesn't work, it powers on obviously just no signal. If you do hold it down and enable the mod chip the Xbox boots up fine and works well, the only problem is if you do the two trigger / 2 button reboot trick with the M8 bios it does start the reboot process but just goes to a no signal screen. If I go to the option in UnleashX to boot to MSDash it just goes to this same black no signal screen. I tried reinstalling MSDash in case it was a problem with the dashboard, but that made no difference. Does anyone know a solution to this? it's not a big deal but I'd like to resolve it if possible. Thanks in advance.
  21. So I managed to repair my xbox and while I was at it I got to work on a couple of 1.6s I had. I've installed the Aladdin XT Plus2 and I left the on board led off so it doesn't turn on. I used the TruHexen 2020 disk and flashed the 256k BIOS, v1.6. Now when I boot, as I'm sure most of you know, I get the purple triangle with the Evo X logo. I don't really care for the logo and I would like advice on what would be the best BIOS to install on a: 1.6 with an Aladdin chip stock hdd but going to upgrade eventually working dvd drive but that may be removed want F and G no LOGO. Thanks guys!
  22. My LE Green Xbox which is very little used and has been kept in practically retail state (never opened) completely out of the blue decided to start itself the moment I turn on the main's power. Its been connected to the same power block as my most used Xboxes for years so when either are on it will have been getting some power to the clock cap but TBH I can't remember when it was last actually used; it has to be at least a month ago. Then this. It won't turn off using the Xbox power button but will turn off using the UnleashX menu option > Shutdown but then immediately powers up again. Its working perfectly otherwise. Clearly something has happened, probably partly due to the hot weather but what? My theory is that I made a big mistake keeping it plugged in so that when the other Xboxes were being used its clock cap was indeed being charged. Despite it not being used regularly that has led to its premature ageing and leaking, doing some sort of damage. I suspect I'll only know if that is correct by cracking open the case which I specifically did not and still do not want to do. So if the cause could be something else which doesn't required me to take its virginity advice would be appreciated.
  23. So i have a 1.6 or 1.6b xbox and i ordered a mod chip to try modding it. i see every time someone mods an xbox that have this board that they use with it. I don't have that board and want to ask if its possible to mod it without it.
  24. long story short, ages ago I softmodded a 1.1 machine and naturally locked the drive after upgrading it. shortly after I tsoped it though, and zeroed and password- without backing the original or unlocking the drive. I tried chimp261812 and neither master password (XBOXSCENE and TEAMASSEMBLY) worked. the master password *should* be a string of 32 T (it's a samsung drive) but chimp won't let me input a different master password. there's the hddkey.txt option but it only accepts 16 bytes of hexadecimal characters, unless I'm missing something it's not related to the master password. there's also the linux terminal but I'm not sure what I'm doing here. any ideas?
  25. I got a job lot recently of some consoles - and all of them have buggered Thomson drives I've tried adjusting pots, tried booting multiple burnt copies of HeXen and OGXBOXInstaller etc. but all seem to just hang on the Linux screen. Any suggestions for what can be done? Can a HDD be setup outside the console? I have FATXplorer - and I know Eaton was looking at adding more support for the OG Xboxes however I think these are all still in beta. Cheers guys
