  1. Assuming it is an error 06, will this whole process be skippable if i juat slapped in an aladdin xt (modchip)?
  2. Thanks @KaosEngineer for the help, really appreciate it . Unfortunately I just converted my only AV cable to a component cable, more on the way though. But assuming it turns out that the previous owner is correct and I have an error 06 , what should i do assuming they messed up the bios or whatever during modding ?. It'll take time to arrive though the cables so I think this thread may end up dead by the time it arrives from China ... Regards SP
  3. Hello everyone, A while back I bought a couple of Xbox's 1.0 , 1.3 & a 1.6 . Fixed the first two up and running , now the last one turns on and off 3 times, then flashes red/green without video, previous owner says it had the error 06 but for me It doesn't give a video signal at all. A visual inspection of the board for any bulged capacitors shows no obvious faults, although I am aware that sometimes with an ESR meter (which i dont have) you can tell which is good and which is bad. I'm using a component cable and the V1.6 xbox is a PAL unit and the hard drive inside is definitely not stock 160GB storage and no hard mod is installed. A quick search gives me the idea that its probably the eeprom ( dead or corrupted ) if that is the case and assuming i have no backup as i do not know what the previous owner did to it, what should i do ? if not any ideas what should i check / do to troubleshoot the problem ? . I have a Rpi , arduino and an old eeprom universal flasher ( i will check if it supports the chips ). Oh and i have an Aladdin XT PLUS2 on hand if that would help , but kindly note that I have never used them before but if someone has a guide that would be appreciated as well. Best Regards SP
  4. Just an update to whoever stumbles upon this thread with a similar problem of not being able to replace theirs with a compatible PSU, The USA (110) PSU was repaired and successfully converted to 220V (EU) and now the v1.0 xbox is now working !! , here is what happened, 1. Changed Filter caps to 330uF 250V 2. Changed Z1 and Z2 with 10D431K 275VAC Varistors 3. Removed J11 (was under on of the big filter caps). 4. Replaced the slow blow fuse ( it was blown ). and voila ! , Thanks to SS_Dave for sharing his knowledge and and for being patient with me. BR
  5. Hi Dave, Just letting you know that the adapter was repaired and the v1.0 xbox is now working !! , here is what happened, 1. Changed Filter caps to 330uF 250V 2. Changed Z1 and Z2 with 10D431K 275 Varistors 3. Removed J1 (was under on of the big filter caps). 4. Replaced the slow blow fuse ( it was blown ). and voila ! , Thanks Dave for the help your're a legend ! BR
  6. I removed J11 and reinstalled all the output cable , installed the power supply back to the xbox which was tested working yesterday with an atx PSU and unfortunately it did not work, clearly something is broken in the PSU + on the bottom side there is a missing smd capacitor at the output (c301) & missing MOV Z2 . I think I'll call it a day regarding this PSU for now, probably when i receive the v1.6 PSU and get it working (no ideal). i am also waiting for another power supply for my V1.3 xbox (220V) to arrive where i plan to install it in place of a 110V PSU, maybe by that time i'll take that 110V PSU and try by removing J11 and give it a go with the V1.0 xbox.
  7. Thank you for sharing the interesting information, and thank you again for your time and concern really appreciate it. So as far as i can tell from your post the input filter caps , MOV's need to be replaced with higher rated voltage in accordance to the 220V mains and the jumper needs to be removed. I'll replace those and let you know how it goes, it would help if you have an idea of the values of those ( filter caps , Surge protector (MOV) ) on a 220V model if possible. Also As a backup I'm looing at this switch mode DC-DC module to regulate the 5V -> 3.3V with the v1.6 power supply https://ram-e-shop.com/product/dc-dc-step-down-converter-8a-4v40vdc-to-1-25v36vdc/ Cheers Sultanpepper
  8. EDIT: Thank you Dave for sharing your thoughts and experience. Ah at first I totally missed that in the V1.6 power supply we don't have a +3.3V, so now we need to get it from somewhere ..... wouldnt taking the +3V3 (regulated) from the +5V make it a problem by stressing on hte +5V rail ? for the V1.0 power supply i suppose those are the amperage of each rail I'm trying to understand the situation I put myself in. Also regarding the faulty power supply (110V) what are the components that need to be changed to convert the PSU to a 220V unit ? also i cant find J1 , would you kindly point out where it's located ? BR
  9. Hi Dave, I was not able to find any power supplies 1.0-1.1 or 1.2-1.5 available , I took my chances and ordered the power supply for about $8 . But My reason for asking here is whether I have missed anything other than I will need to step down the standby voltage 5v -> 3.3V . If yes , below in the table Pins 8,9 ,10 & 8 in second row are the standby pins while the +5V is only 1 wire at pin 6 ? . The faulty power supply turned out to be a blown 110V Power supply (USA) and where I live mains voltage is 220V, so I dismembered it and took it's output cables where I intend to replace the cables with the v1.6 power supply ones. Please let me know what you think , your help is really appreciated. BR
  10. A quick followup for the project, 1. Xbox Version 1.0 : Turns out the previous owner got a US (110V) and plugged it in and kaboom so power supply is gone , So yesterday i brought out a pc ATX powersupply and wired up with a small circuit to handle all the powering and voila ! its working. So i ordered a replacement V1.6 as i couldnt find one v1.0 powersupplies anymore , will need to change the output ATX cable (double column -> single column) and add a voltage regulator for standby (5V->3.3V). 2. Xbox Version 1.3: Ordered a compatible power supply DPSN-96DP-1 , will test when it arrives 3. Xbox Version 1.6: Ordered an aladdin XT modchip , in general this one is already working but has the error 06 , this can wait, the other above i'm more interesting in fixing. I hunted down for European models for my V1.0 , V1.3 (220V) on ebay as they periodically come up . The universal power supply seems to be extinct even on Chinese sites so I've given up . BR
  11. Hello everyone, I was able to find a 220V powersupply for my broken v1.1 xbox . Now I am aware of the connector and pinout and standby voltages are different. But assuming I have the connector, a 5->3.3V voltage regulator ( for standby ) would it ok ?. Note : The model I'm working with is DPSN-96DP-1 BR
  12. Thank you for sharing your experience with me. By any chance would you be able to share with me where can I buy one of those universal xbox power supplies ? , the website i've linked above seems to be of bad reputation so I think I'll stay away from this one. BR
  13. Thank you sir for sharing a comprehensive guide really appreciate it. Also while we're at it, what do you think of those after market universal power supplies which have a toggle switch ?
