About Me

  1. I'm going to replace my original XBox HDD with a larger capacity one. In the meantime, since the original HDD has been modified (additional dashboards etc), what is the best way to put it back to "stock" mode and to remove everything that got installed when it was originally hard-modded?
  2. Chimp or FTP is the question I have about 1TB of games on a 2TB drive in a modded box with an xecuter 2.6 chip. I recently picked up another xbox and actually found that I had an extra xecuter 2.6 chip on hand. I recently installed it, and it works just fine, so I have purchased another 2TB drive to put in it. Would it be best to use Chimp to clone it, or should I just throw Hexen on it and FTP over the files. My mind is saying to use Hexen and go the FTP route so I don't have to swap a live drive or touch the other box but maybe I am just over thinking it. What would you do?
  3. Aplogies for the noobness here My xbox will not load unleashx on the new hd often. it either takes along time to load or fails. it does not load evox in corner also. Xbox ntsc-j 1.0 2 tb WD Green aladian xt2 hard mod instal issues. - doesn not load evox in conrer anymore after bios flash - boot looping, freezing, not loading into unleash, going into red green flash after 3 boot attempts. -if loads, often after a reboot will decide to 'take a break' boot loop into flashing lights, black screen. -no EVOX logo with or without hd anymore ( this makes me think its a bios issue) -loading hexen to install xmbc or try reflash bios is always unsuccessful. -can load ogxbox just unsure what to instal. Previous notes , install and before issues: -Removed capacitor, installed chip, directed d0 to wrong point (plese see pic) still successfully launched EVOX. -would not load hexen or new hd. redirected the d0 to proper point then had boot problems. starting logo would freeze. -Reflowed aladdin pin headers. -changed wiring back (picture - d0 point to ledhd - i did not clearly understand pdf install guide) hexen loaded. -freezed once. flashed bios 480p an d couldnt get logo screen. reverted back. could load new hdd. -installed ntsc package and got error on 'nodvd' (forgot this part kind of), still loaded into partioner. -partioned hd using 947-1 method (2tbhd) rebooted but froze. -reloaded hexen, reinstalled ntsc p[ackage succefully with no errors. -reformated drives again with 946 +1 method. -rebooted and got power boot loops and no evox logo. -also got the issue LBA48 bios issues when checking reformat drives. however drives are formatted. Thought it maybe hd issues or power issue or ide/sata issues but havetested with nad without hd and get same result. unless i leave the xbox to rest it wont reboot. I can get into a succeful unleshx dash with hd partioned. it just doesnt run smooth or seem right. Plesea see pics. Ive burnt ogxbox disc to try and instal bios but unsure which one honestly. but this randomly loads . I have a feeling ive done something to the modchip. iread that the bios on hexen for the chip was junk but have no idea how to instal a new bios now. I hope someone can help https://imgur.com/JB1rbXv https://imgur.com/eTbE2sJ https://imgur.com/P4YXvm5 https://imgur.com/piCzr6M
  4. hello guys i have an xbox with 80gb hard drive i have another 120gb hard drive my question is how i can replace it with the 80gb my xbox has Aladdin modchip
  5. i have recently been playing xmen: legends on my hard modded xbox. this is the 1st time i have done this. i have played this game through many times and i have noticed a couple glitches that i have never seen before. this is the first time i have ever played it from the hdd on a hard modded xbox. this is also the 1st time i have ever played it through on a v1.4 xbox. most of the times in the past were on my v1.6 and once on a v1.0. both used the disc. so i'm not certain if it is that i am playing it for the 1st time from the hdd or that i'm playing from a v1.4 xbox for the 1st time. thoughts?
  6. As it says in the title, I'm new to the Xbox modding scene. I'm wondering if I could just take out the hard drive and replace it with a brand new one (plain and simple). Or do I need to do some other stuff before putting a new hard drive. My Xbox is also unmodded (unmodded as in STOCK, no softmod or hardmods done to it.) And if some soldering needs to be done, then does anybody know what (affordable) soldering equipment do I need? Considering I have ZERO skills in soldering.
  7. My Xbox is not modded and kind of wanted to keep it that way, I wanted to replace my hard drive, is it as easy as just putting a new drive in my xbox? because i heard about having to unlock and lock with eeprom key, is there a way i can do it without modding or unlocking and locking a hard drive? thankyou for your time everyone!
  8. I have an OG Xbox that no longer works, I've tried a different power supply and replaced some capacitors that were bad no luck, my friend gave me a working Xbox same model. Is it possible to swap the drive from my dead one to the "new" one and retain all the data? Also if I can't do that would it be possible to transfer the save data and games to the new system?
  9. Can I ask the community for some help please: I’m trying to make a back-up of my WD Blue 1TB hard drive from my Xbox and can’t seem to get the duplicated drive to boot. My Xbox is modded with an Xecuter X3 chip and that is working fine; I have the X3 panel on the front which is lighting up blue and booting ok with my original drive – and it is booting to the X3 bios on my duplicate one. I’ve duplicated my original drive using HDD Raw Copy 1.10 (through two separate USB docking stations). Obviously I received read errors throughout the process; but it has reached 100% and finished. However, when I plugged in the back-up drive and booted up the Xbox, I got error code 16. When I switched banks and booted to the X3 bios it updated some settings; but when I boot to the bios bank that should be loading my XBMC Media Centre dashboard, I get error code 13. Basically my question is: am I missing something/doing something wrong? I wonder if I still need to “tell” the bios that this is a different drive somehow? Any advice gratefully received thanks.
  10. Hello, first time Xbox repair-er here. So I took an old Xbox out of storage (10-ish years). Turned it on and it powered up fine, clock set screen came up which was expected since I assumed I was going to be ripping the clock cap out anyway. Also the disk tray wouldn't open, again an easy fix, no big deal. I open it up, clean the DVD drive and reset the belt (boiling water, etc.) and put it all back together. Only this time it doesn't turn on. I can hear a faint noise coming from the hard drive but nothing else, no indicator lights, no disk tray activity, nothing. My guess is more than one of the caps was going bad and that final power on I did was just the nail in the coffin. I plan to open it up and do a full cleaning to see if there's anything obvious, but the fact that the HDD seems to still be getting power makes me think that I possibly broke something. Is it possible that bad caps could cause power to stop going to certain components but not others?
  11. Hello All I know there are some games like HP prisoner of Azkaban that won't work because of long file paths, etc. Does anyone know of a full list of games that don't work? I have read that you can use the ISO mounted on a virtual drive with softmod but my XBOX is hard modded so I'm not sure if this would work? thanks in advance AtariSoul
  12. Hi, I’m currently trying to figure out why tony hawk pro skater 3 keeps saying failed to save to hard disk. I’m wondering if anyone else has come across this issue before? My Xbox is hard modded and has been upgraded with a 2TB wd blu hard drive if that helps thanks in advance
  13. Hello Everyone I have the XBOX Origins 2TB image. All my XBOXs are hardmodded and I want to use XBOX4GAMERS. I want to keep the games on the image to save time copying again. This image has NKPATHCER so am I right to assume its a softmod image? Is the uninstall option on the NKPATCHER menus suficient to remove the softod? I have FATXPLORER so my ultimate aim is to remove everything thats not essential and leave the games and COINOPS so I can start with a bare image and add what I want. Thanks in advance
  14. Hi there, so today I upgraded my Xbox’s hard drive to a 2TB WD blue and in unleash X, it’s showing just 500gb available to use as storage. But when I set up the hard drive using hexen, XBpartioner let me choose 900gb partitions for F and G. Is there something I’ve done wrong to not allow the hard drives full capacity? My Xbox had a duo x2 chip and I’m on my bank that has evox bios installed. I didn’t install this chip so I’m unsure of what version of Evox this has. any help in much appreciated. Thanks in advance
  15. Ok people so i upgraded my hard drive today. all going well. all sorted. Put the xbox back together and guess what. Stupid dvd drive keep ejecting. I close via the button and opens again. ITS A samsung sdg-605 Please guys help me
  16. Hello guys, I just upgraded my softmodded Xbox to a 500gb sata drive. Everything works great but.. it takes like 30 seconds to boot up which is kind of annoying. Could this be because of the sata adapter I'm using? I'm using an 80-wire ide cable so I know that's not the issue. Or are slower boot times normal? I haven't modded one of these for years. Just wondering, thanks.
  17. I've got 4 Xboxes I've softmodded for my family using Rocky's softmod tool, and I nulled the keys as well during that process (all zeros, but will soon upgrade to all ones to be compatible with Insignia - hopefully its an easy process to upgrade the softmod dashboard/tool). I currently have a larger drive in one of them that has the dashboard, emulators, and games set up just the way I want it. I want to put larger hard drives in the other three and have all four be the exact same setup. Rather than cloning the stock hard drive to a larger drive during the upgrade process and then spending the lengthy time FTPing over the hundreds of MB's of data with the data rate transmission limitations and drop outs inherent with FTP, since all the XBOX's have nulled keys I was planning on just taking the larger drive I've already set up and cloning it 3 times - and then putting those cloned drives into the other 3 xboxes. Much simpler and quicker. However, with Insignia needing the Serial Number, HDD Key, and Online Key for each Xbox would cloning a hard drive from one xbox and putting that newly created hard drive into another xbox change the way the serial number or online key is read in the "newly upgraded" Xbox and make it incompatible with Insignia? Or does it not matter as it will just pull the serial number and online key from the mobo and doing what I described above will still be compatible with Insignia? Thanks all!
  18. I completed my first softmod a few weeks ago and was not satisfied with the outcome so i ordered a couple of the aliddan xt chips. So far this looks like a great community for it. Any input would be helpfull. Happy to join Mattison
  19. Hard drive activity on the eject button led. To do that mod you don’t need an LED since we make use of the LED on the eject botton which give us a nice and clean look. Each time the hard drive read or write data, the orange (or “amber” if you prefer) led lights up and that will make you happy (Note: This just works for a man, not woman!). So what do we need: Wire. 30 AWG works for me. 10K resistor. Small piece heat shrink. Solder, Iron, Flux, IPA. Super duper glue or your hot glue gun. Optional : A beer a cup of coffee or tee. At this time you can choose the last time by your self until the tutorial is done! Ok, lets start by tear down your x-box like you normaly do and put the mainboard with the bottom side up in front you. The back ports should be facing upwards. When you have an v1.0 to v1.4 you should search for the resistor R3V2 (The v1.5 unicorne should have it one the same place, I guess). For v1.6 or v1.6b search for the resistor R3V3. (Yap, they are both on the same spot and do the same but M$ choose to lable those differently.) So when you have found the resistor, solder one end of the wire to the left side of the resistor. Now that this is done aim for the IDE connector. Measure how much wire you need to get to the IDE pin shown in the Picture (Don`t forget the length of your resistor.). It’s the first pin on the left side on top of the connector. Now solder your 10K resitor to the other end of the wire and put some heat shrink on it. Last but not least solder the end of the resitor to the IDE pin. Now it’ s time to put back together your x-box and test your new mod, of which, you can be unbelievably proud of– in case you didn't screw it up somewhere… like me on the 1.6 because I wasn’t aware that MS choose to lable the resistors wrong (remember?). But thats there fault and not mine so let us blame them for that! Still reading? Why? You have reached the end of, what ever you wanna call it, and can now make your own decisions again! (Except you have a wife/girlfriend, then you’re totally screwed cuz it’s on her to make decisions for you!). For real. I hope you had fun with this and you enjoy your new little mod. I’m out. PS. You found typos or i miss spelled something? See, you got that on top without a tip!
  20. My original xbox died 10 years ago and the drive has been sitting on the shelf ever since. I recently installed an Aladdin XT Plus2 chip in a 1.6 Xbox and I have hexen19 burned onto a DVD. How Do I replace the stock drive with the drive from my old u modded xbox? The reason I want to use the old drive is that I want to transfer my save files off of it then place a new drive in the xbox, if this isn't possible, is there another way to transfer my files off the old drive. The drive is a Seagate not a WD.
  21. Quick question I am finding difficult to search online. Like most, I mainly play games directly from the hard drive, but do occasionally like to play my games on disc. I am wondering if there is an application out there that gives you the option of disabling the dvd drive on startup? I want to keep my dvd drive alive for as long as possible, and I cringe everytime I boot the Xbox and the laser searches for a disc that isn't there. It seems I am just degrading the lifetime of the drive that way. If I can disable the drive when I am not using it, I bet I would be able to squeeze more life out of it. Thanks!
  22. I am in the process of modding my multiple xbox consoles so that they all have the same files and also hdd keys so that I can mix and match the hard drives across all systems. Hdd keys seem simple enough but I have a few questions about the config sector of the hdd. The config sector is I think the first sector of the hdd and stores certain configuration settings. These settings are unable to be changed as far as I am aware. https://xboxdevwiki.net/Config_Sector. I will be using configmagic to match the different settings accros the many eeproms and ftping over my gamesaves. I have a concern that if I swap over a hdd that these settings in the config sector may come into conflict with the new xbox it is placed in. Most of those settings are not a worry. Host name is something I am not so sure about, I can't find any info relating to the original xbox hostname or how to change it. I would hate to switch a hard drive and because host name on said hdd doesn't match with rest of the system something bad happens. I would like some help with this issue of mine, regarding hostname and if there is anything else in the config sector I should be concerned about with what I am trying to do. (Mix and match hard drives accross multiple consoles, I won't be cloning or full eeprom flashing).
  23. SO when I turn it on, it starts and stops a few times before it finally gets going and then when it does I get no image or sound and the light just flashes red and green. At first I thought it was my IDE adapter on my new hard drive, but when I replaced the unnamed brand one with a startech it still did it. To be clear, my xbox DOES work if I keep fucking with the power button and I can play games normally (Have not extensively tested to see if it randomly shuts off or anything after a long period of time. Anyone know what the problem could be?
  24. Upon bootup my xbox goes as far as to displaying the XBOX screen and then freezes there, if I try to eject the tray the screen goes blank and flashes for a moment before bringing back up the XBOX screen. I've received no error and have yet to put in a recovery disc
  25. Hi all! I need some help with switching out the hard drive in my XBOX. I've been battling with it for some time, so I decided to get some help. My XBOX version is 1.1. I currently have it softmodded with Rocky5's softmod. Originally, I had gotten a 1TB SATA drive for my XBOX (WD10EZEX-22MFCAO, which seemed like a good choice, since many other WD10EZEX drives seemed to work for others in the hard drive compatibility chart). Along with it, I got a SATA to IDE adapter, an 80-wire IDE cable, and the molex power splitter. When I first attempted to configure the drive, the exposed contacts from the back of the SATA to IDE adapter (where the power connects in) touched the back of the hard drive when I was hot swapping the IDE cable. There was a spark (I didn't think to cover the connection), and since CHIMP would never load, I assumed I had fried the drive. I ordered another one, and it wouldn't work either, so I realized it was a compatibility issue. After this, I decided to switch to a smaller, cheaper IDE drive (this Maxtor Diamond Plus 9 hard drive) that a friend said he had gotten to work before. I ordered it and attempted to configure it (using the original 40 wire IDE cable and no SATA to IDE adapter of course), and while I was able to launch CHIMP, it errors out part way through the process. Here's what I've been doing: Install CHIMP to E:/Apps, and place linuxboot.cfg into my E: drive Open the XBOX. Unplug the molex cable from the original hard drive and connect the splitter to it, one end of which I connect back to the original hard drive Place the new hard drive on top of my DVD drive (with the antistatic bag the drive came in between them) Check the mode of my new hard drive. I have tried it both with the jumper in the Cable Select Enabled position, and in Slave mode (no jumper) Launch the XBOX and wait 5 minutes for the DVD drive to go to sleep Swap the IDE cable from the DVD drive to the slave drive (within 5 seconds) Go to my applications list and launch CHIMP On the first menu button prompt, I press A to confirm that the slave drive is connected CHIMP begins to run its processes. After loading for a bit, it gets stuck on a screen saying that it can't allocate resources, with a picture of the Linux penguin in the top right I'm assuming that since CHIMP can actually boot up with this drive, that the problem might not be the drive itself, though I could be wrong (with the previous WD10EZEX drives, my XBOX would just completely freeze up when I booted CHIMP). I've tested my XBOX with just the existing hard drive installed, and that has no problems, as I'm able to play games fine and navigate through the dashboard just fine. I'm not entirely sure where my problem could be coming from, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
