  1. To upgrade an older non-Xbox Softmodding Tool softmod, use the Quick Upgrade package that's available for Rocky5's Xbox Softmodding Tool. Currently found in the Build v1.1.6/Installer Variants folder named Quick Upgrade.zip Extract and install it to the E drive as stated in the included instructions, Read Me.txt, and run it from your old softmodded console's replacement dashboard's file manager.
  2. Do you have a link to download the Borg Installer software/disc?
  3. The prebuilt version of Rocky5's Xbox Softmodding Tool is available from Xbox Softmod Kit Updates - Google Drive.
  4. Xbox HDM23USB Beta 2 or 3 run from Windows. No need to create a bootable USB thumbdrive or disk. The USB in the name, XboxHDM23USB, means the hard drive is to be connected to the PC via a USB-to-HDD interface adapter. Place the eeprom.bin backup in the folder that contains the startup batch file for it - xboxhd.bat. Run the batch file and answer any Windows security prompts to allow it to have administrative permissions and run. For Beta 2, you need to add the MS dashboard 5960 files set to the empty C and E (well E can be left empty) folders. Beta 3 is preconfigured with a bootable no-original-game-disk-required Xbox Softmodding Tool installer. Add no files to it. Lock the drive and install in your Xbox.
  5. How is your Xbox modded? Soft or hard mod installed. Softmod - Softmod Installer Deluxe (SID) or Rocky5's Xbox Softmodding Tool Hardmod - which BIOS are you booting. It too has a much smaller boot order list (3) than Rocky5's softmod.
  6. How is your console modded? If using Rocky5's softmod, installing XBMC4Gamers in one of the searched directories will make it the default dashboard since it is higher up in the load order: C:\XBMC-Emustation\default.xbe E:\XBMC-Emustation\default.xbe F:\XBMC-Emustation\default.xbe C:\XBMC4Gamers\default.xbe E:\XBMC4Gamers\default.xbe F:\XBMC4Gamers\default.xbe C:\XBMC4Xbox\default.xbe E:\XBMC4Xbox\default.xbe F:\XBMC4Xbox\default.xbe C:\XBMC\default.xbe E:\XBMC\default.xbe F:\XBMC\default.xbe C:\dashboard\default.xbe E:\dashboard\default.xbe F:\dashboard\default.xbe C:\dash\default.xbe E:\dash\default.xbe F:\dash\default.xbe E:\default.xbe E:\dashboard.xbe C:\evoxdash.xbe E:\evoxdash.xbe C:\XBMC.xbe E:\XBMC.xbe
  7. Take the Hexen disc out of the DVD drive. Showing Linux under the big X logo at the end of the flubber animation is an indication that Hexen is loading from the DVD. (Is the eject ring also RED instead of GREEN?) The stock unmodified Evolution-X distribution of M8plus or M8 for either 1.0-1.5 or 1.6 version Xboxes will have the purple Evo X shield in the upper left hand corner of the flubber animation.
  8. Error 16 is loss of clock data. While trying to load the MS dashboard file to set the date/time, it is not found; thus, the error. When the clock capacitor has been drained by unplugging it from AC power for over 3 to 4 hours, the data is lost and requires being set again. The stock BIOS loads the file to set the date/time. Some hacked BIOS's skip the clock check. Your's must not or the console is booting the stock BIOS from the motherboard's TSOP flash chip, not from the modchip. Or, the clock cap has leaked and no longer functions properly. Not has high a chance of this happening on a 1.6 console but all caps can go bad. The leaked electrolyte will corrode traces on the motherboard. Clean up any mess with 91%+ isopropyl alcohol. Top and bottom side of the motherboard and anywhere else it has ran to inside the case. Again, leaked electrolyte hasn't been a problem on 1.6's but there are many other caps near the PSU connector that leak on them. What BIOS version are you using? If you don't see the Evox shield that was always displayed before this problem, the modchip's BIOS is not booting. The console is booting the stock BIOS. Red/Yellow (orange, amber) flashing Eject ring indicates RAM error.
  9. Xbox v1.0 and v1.1 use a 12x1 row connector while v1.2-1.5 and v1.6 (not suitable though as power levels are different) use a 2x10 ATX-style connector for the motherboard's power supply connection. Therefore, you need to find a v1.0 or 1.1 Xbox to use it's PSU as a replacement.
  10. Are you using the latest Build v1.1.6 of the Xbox Softmodding Tool?
  11. If you perform that set of operations on a stock Xbox, it will play an Xbox Team Thank You message. Original Xbox Easter Egg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZHK-9_0PNc
  12. How's your Xbox modded? If you use Rocky5's Xbox Softmodding Tool, it will load XBMC4Gamers instead of UnleashX if both are installed at locations supported by his softmod's boot order list since the first has a higher priority than the later. If your console is hard modded, you need to create a shortcut to run XBMC4Gamers or edit the BIOS settings and reflash the updated version to the modchip to change the dashboard boot order list.
  13. The complete XVGM skin with all the latest additions is available from CB-Games' XVGM google drive. Edit: Google Drive files offline. Available at: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/km5c9do7ti5pu/GREPO#gjoydkqip8m7g
  14. Team Xecuter's X3CP (X3 Control Panel) with XLCD. It is a replacement faceplate used with the X3 modchip.
  15. The clock cap only keeps the time for a few hours. If you unplug it overnight, the date/time will be lost on any version Xbox. A softmod has files in different locations than a hard modded console. You can't build the hard drive to work properly for a softmodded console. There's a hidden copy of the C drive contents and a shadow C (what you see once the softmod activates) that needs to have a copy of the MS dashboard files stored to it. Which version/build of Rocky5's Softmod is installed? However, with Rocky5's softmod installed, it should not give an error 16 after installed even after AC power has been unplugged long enough for the clock capacitor's charge has been drained to low to keep the clock running.
  16. As long as it's not a 1.6 power supply - those PSUs use 5Vdc standby. The Foxlink you have isn't for a 1.6. The labeling states it outputs +3VSB (StandBy) supply level. Xbox v1.2-1.4 PSUs can be swapped between all of them if it supports the AC voltage input for your region. What was the production date of Xbox the Foxlink PSU came from? Trying to document the time frame for various PSU usage.
  17. Install the URLDownloader. The menu option to install/run it is found under the main menu screen's Options menu. Run it and look at all the Homebrew ports, emulators and other content that can be added to XBMC-Emustation.
  18. I've been told recently that 007:AUF PAL or NTSC can be used to mod the console. There is 1 game save that can be used with either NTSC or PAL version of the game. I had always thought that 007:AUF was NTSC only. But, this seems to not to be the case. While to use Splinter Cell to softmod the console, there are two different saves one for the NTSC version of the game and a different one for the PAL version. The 4th exploitable game is Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4. There have been 3 different game saves created that can be used to softmod the Xbox with this game: One specifically for NTSC, another for PAL and a region free save that can be used with either version.
  19. Grab a screenshot with UnleashX! Press the left thumbstick button and the black button. It will be saved to the Z drive unless its full the Y unless full X as a BMP file. Download it to your PC with FTP. Then, convert with IrfanView by using the built-in File menu Save As... option or Save for Web... (it's an additional plugin to download) from the ~1MB or larger file to a much smaller JPG or PNG format image.
  20. Welcome to OGXbox.com. Mod it or lose it, KaosEngineer
  21. You know, maybe you don't, newer softmods actually use an offshoot of bert and ernie font exploit as the fonts were not signed so they are the way into the console's OS. Even with the newest softmodding packages like Rocky5's Xbox Softmodding Tool, it is used. Source code for the Xbox Softmodding Tool is available at https://github.com/Rocky5/Xbox-Softmodding-Tool/ Font exploit - ernie.asm not sure where bert went I don't see an asm file for him: https://github.com/Rocky5/Xbox-Softmodding-Tool/blob/cdf63d7d25484f6671be91f0011533f757fbfe38/App Sources/NKPatcher/Main NKP11/ernie.asm This softmod uses ernie and NKPatcher 11 code to exploit the system. However, it's still ernie (Xbox Book.xtf) that exploits the MS dashboard to start the process of modding the in-memory BIOS to hack the Xbox kernel. It runs C:\nkpatcher\default.xbe from the user hidden real C partition when the console boots. The real C partition is not visible once the exploit is in place. The shadow C is (I think that's the right terminology for it). Line of code from ernie.asm at the Xbox Softmodding Tool source repository on github.com: xbestr db '\Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\nkpatcher;default.xbe',0
  22. <Image blah blah blah Source="GameIcon" /> is outside of the <Menu></Menu> section. Add it right before or after your Menu section. Size DOESN'T matter. It rescales the game's icon to fix the specified size. Possibly the same thing for: <Image Source="GamePreview" /> It goes outside of the <Menu></Menu> section of the skin.xml file.
  23. I think it has something to do with these two lines of the skin.xml file: <Image Top="15" Left="1068" Width="142" Height="189" Source="GameIcon" /> <Image Source="GamePreview" /> I removed them and it loads. Try that and see how things look. Then, add one of those lines and see if it works, then add the other. Try setting the GameIcon size of 70x70 pixels instead of 189x142. P.S.Also, some of the text colors are 0xFF000000 (Black) instead of 0xFF0080C0 (Detroit Lions' Blue) and don't show up on the Black background.
