Anyway to setup an XBOX without the DVD drive?

Recommended Posts

I got a job lot recently of some consoles - and all of them have buggered Thomson drives 🙃

I've tried adjusting pots, tried booting multiple burnt copies of HeXen and OGXBOXInstaller etc. but all seem to just hang on the Linux screen.

Any suggestions for what can be done? Can a HDD be setup outside the console? I have FATXplorer - and I know Eaton was looking at adding more support for the OG Xboxes however I think these are all still in beta.

Cheers guys

If you have the box's EEPROM, use XboxHDM to rebuild the disk. It can format, populate formatted disk with pre-defined files, and then lock the disk with its EEPROM pair.

If you don't have the EEPROM, hotswap the box and transfer Rocky's softmod using FATXplorer.

BTW, is the box hardmodded? It's easier for hardmodded box because of no locking needed. Also, softmod need the optical drive logic board to be functional (no error 10, 11, 12?).

I have built a hard drive using an Open Xenium modchip and FTP it was slow and required many steps.

It would be better/quicker to use a Xbox DVD drive even if just to format and install a dash.

When you made the install disk did you use a verbatim DVD-r with a write set as slow as possible?

Cheers

Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

I have 50 Xenium boards to make up but haven't put digikey order in yet 😆

I've been using cheap-o DVD-Rs. I will buy some verbatim ones and see how they behave. I write on 2x speed as that's the slowest my burner goes.

You can install Rocky5's bootable no-original-game-disc-required softmod installer using XboxHDM23USB Beta 3.

The process requires the hard drive to be UNLOCKED.  Either by hotswap connecting the Xbox hard drive to a PC with a USB-to-HDD Inteface adapter or reading the data from the configuration EEPROM on the motherboard stored in eeprom.bin to use the option of XboxHDM23USB to unlock the drive when connected to the PC.

The process of doing either of these methods is a lot more complicated than swapping in a different Xbox DVD drive.

So I recently learned a valuable lesson about TSOP flashing when I flashed my 1.0 with iND-BiOS.Beta.Feb-11-05.67.bfm.bin rather than the non-BFM version of the bios. I was wondering what the practical purpose of the BFM (Boot from Media) bios is, and how one would even use it?
I'm assuming it is a BIOS that something can load AFTER the Xbox as already booted and initialized all hardware?

Hey all.  Sorry if this has been posted, but I searched and couldn't really find anything.  I have a 1.0 Xbox that was handed to me by a friend.  He said he couldn't remember much about it, but that him and his kid tried to mod it a long time ago, and now it isn't working.  Upon opening it, I found a pin header, no modchip, tsop points soldered, and the underside D0 pad ripped off.  When I try to start the xbox, it cycles power 3 times then frags out.  I'm assuming this is due mainly to the ripped D0 trace.  I've tried repairing the trace, and bridging the two pads connected by the green line, but I can't seem to get the solder to stick.  Is there any other way to repair this, or is this the only way?  Relatively new to xbox modding so any tips would be appreciated.  Thank you!

      Hi,
I have a hard modded OpenXenium chip with a 1 TB WD Blue HDD.  I have everything set up and I am trying to get more than 200 GB - with more than  > 200 GB left on a partition.  Filezilla is not letting me do that.  I am just trying to transfer the titles.  They are all HDD ready for transfer but they do not go through at a certain point.  They  all become failed transfers.  The bios I am using is unleashed x from the OGXBOX installer.  It was not flashed by the program but was transferred by my network.  It is a CEE bios.   I switch dashboard sometimes.  The only one that I have on there that is not preinstalled is Emulation Station. I had used the DVDmulleter to get the bios necessary.  The HDD has been partitioned correctly having being split from F to G the remaining left.  I am fairly new to this and any advice to help would be beneficial.
