About Me

  1. if i bought a xbox that someone had softmodded and then unlocked the hdd and forgot to re-lock it before powering down, what error code would it give?
  2. i know that i can take the analog sticks off of several different controllers and put them on my xbox controller to fix stick drift. the thing is that i kind of hate to destroy those old controllers since they will one day be hard to find like the xbox controllers are getting to be. with that said, has anyone found a replacement analog stick that works like oem? i know most of the replacement sticks from ebay are horrible but has anyone found one that is as good as oem?
  3. i've made a few posts in here about my og original xbox and how it has sentimental value to me. i know the hdd will eventually fail on it as all hdd's eventually do. i was thinking of using the softmod exploit just to enable ftp so that i can copy the entire hdd and the eeprom key to my pc. my question is, is there any possible danger in doing this? is it possible that the exploit can mess up my xbox? after i'm finished backing everything up, i want the xbox to be in the same condition it was before i did this. btw, it is a v1.6 and has no mod on it.
  4. i'm thinking about ordering more capacitors for capping some xbox's. can anyone tell me the difference between aluminum caps and leaded aluminum caps?
  5. Hi; About two years ago I bought this used ModChip for 10 USD, but I really don't know what kind of Aladdin version is, It's my knowledge that Aladdin ModChips have a lot of versions so I need your help people to identify it, and if you can or have it, I need install instructions too, please, I remember that this chip can be compatible whit all motherboard versions of original Xbox, and I remember that actually we don't need too much points to install this kind of chip (Aladdin) to make all the steps for have a mod original Xbox because there's no more Xbox Live (for example) for this wonderful console, but I'm only speculating based in my memories, you're the experts, I really appreciate your help and time
  6. i have 2 or 3 dead xbox's and i want to see what is on the hdd's. is there anyway to unlock them with another chipped system?
  7. not certain if this is the right section to ask this question in since it really isn't a repair but don't know where else to post. one of my xbox's i bought to repair has something on it that almost looks like spots of dried mud but it isn't cleaning off like mud so i don't know what it is. i have tried denatured alcohol and goof off but neither are very effective. those cleaners lighten the spots but don't remove them. what is a good cleaner that won't hurt the black plastic(and the green xbox jewel in the center)?
  8. i've heard of and watched videos of people putting in a sata hdd. there are plenty of 250gb ide hdd's out there so why doo most people swap to sata?
  9. i found some new lasers for phillips drives and bought some. these were brand new because i had to desolder the esd protection solder points on it. i replaced the laser in a drive that would not work at all and now it is working. however, it won't read any disks that have any kind of serious damage. my old samsung and hitachi will play them fine but they have to be almost perfect for my phillips to read them. i have heard about how phillips turn the laser strength down in an attempt to prevent the from reading cd-r disks(fyi, i'm only trying to read official xbox disks). my question is, should i adjust the pots on this new laser so that the laser is stronger? i've heard that will shorten the life of the laser but i'm wondering if they were even turned up high enough in the 1st place?
  10. ok so i have a version 1.2 xbox that i bought years ago when i bought the xbox the seller told me it was tsop with the ind-bios and a 1tb sata hard drive mod. last week i rebuilt the hard drive using the true hexens 2019 disk i formatted all my partitions including both the F&G, and installed unleasedX as my main dash with XBMC4gamers as an app. heres my question i use a few .etm and .xbtf trainers for some games i play some people in a facebook group said that XBMC4GAMERS should be able to find and download the missing trainers i need how do i do this thanks for your time
  11. Hi there, I'm new to the og XBox world I bought a XBox half year ago and took it apart. I found out that it has an "Aladdin 2" modchip and as far as I understand is also TSOP modded. It's a NTSC XBox v1.0. My questions for you are: Do I really need the modchip? As far as I understand the v1.0 has a big TSOP Chip, which can be splitted into banks, if I really need different bioses. So does this modchip anything different/special? And why do I need different Bioses? I just want to use this Xbox as (region free) Gaming console and maybe for XBMC. And is there a cheap (and easy) way to get digital output? I only got a VGA adapter with this XBox and it doesn't really work with my TV.
  12. Hello everybody. I recently got to thinking about the data retention of the flash memory used in the original xbox. I purchased an original xbox not to long ago that was basically a coma console in that it would have a green light, but no audio or video. Turns out the bios was corrupted or something similar and that it would boot with extreme difficulties after pressing the eject button a bunch of times until the drive ejected. Basically these symptoms. I did manage to flash a custom bios onto the system and that solved the booting issues it was having, but that then leads me to what I have as a discussion today. Looking at the datasheet for the Winbond W49F020 series of flash memory used in my console, I notice that it has a data retention of 20 years. This means that it should hold the data for about 20 years no problem, but it seems like mine started having issues early. By what I can tell, to refresh this data and basically restart the countdown, I need to reflash the bios to the chip rewriting the data. This brings it back to a state where the data is properly stored and is ready to last another 15-20 years. My only concern about the whole thing is that flashing a new bios can go wrong and cause the console not to boot without a mod chip. My question to someone more knowledgeable than me in this topic is, are we going to see more and more stock consoles fail to boot due to corrupt bioses in the up and coming years? I know that 1.0 and 1.1 consoles already have some issues with their 1mb flash chips, but will all sorts of version have issues? ie, 1.0 - 1.6? Is this just a limitation of anything using flash memory in a component used to boot up? I know nothing lasts forever, but I do try to make it last as long as I can. Thanks for taking the time to read through this and I hope it can spark some good discussion on the topic. Also if anything I have here is incorrect, please let me know as I am still learning about hardware in general, and I try my best to be accurate in my information. DobaMuffin
  13. So I’m working on a portable Xbox briefcase thing. I have an arcade switch on the outside of the briefcase to turn on the tv and the Xbox at the same time. The Xbox is deconstructed and laid out like a test bench computer inside the briefcase and I was wondering if I could bypass with a jumper to have the Xbox turn on with power or does it need to be a momentary switch? I appreciate any help
  14. Hello I'm new to the Xbox forum,I want to learn as much as i can about it. I want a place to talk about the xbox so I hope I'm in the correct place lol Thanks K-9
  15. Hi guys, First off I want to thank everyone for their help along the way I've learned a lot from this forum sure I could have had other people do it for me But honestly I wouldn't have learned as much but I still have a few questions so I'm going to go ahead and post them here (1) I have a whole bunch of burn CDs for the Dreamcast could my Xbox read them? (2) with my 500gb IDE drives now installed 110 gig devoted new Xbox games another 80 for coin-ops and probably another hundred for SNES What would you add now if you were me (3) I'm thinking of skining my Xbox is there a site still that I can get skins I really don't want to paint the unit I could buy a bus in Xbox and paint it that case and then just transplant my own but I really don't want to go to the time and after that
  16. can i replace 3300uF 6.3v capacitors with 3300uF 10v ones ? got a 1.6 Halo box that is almost in prestine condition apart from being opened by me and all 5 capacitors next to the mobo power connector are popped. the only replacements I have at hand would be the aforementioned 10v ones that I scavenged from a v1.2 board.
  17. Hello everyone. Quite new to this site, I was more active a couple of years ago when it came to the OG Xbox, but since, much else in life has taken it's time,, and I got stucj in the RGH business some years,, and I notice how quickly the memory fades. So now, when time has come back to dust off the old consoles that's been standing in the closet for some years now, many of the sites has been gone with the wind,, but, then I found this one : and I'm glad to see that the OG Xbox community still flourishes,, with a lot of new updates and upgrades since I last installed XBMC from a AID 4. disc. So,, I thought I would see if there's any bright minded folks that know something about a chip I discovered in a recently purchased 1.6. I searched about it but all I come across is dead links. The chip is a Muppet-X,, neither Kermit or Animal, but a white one with a 4 pin connector where only D0 is used, no BT etc,, those I removed, just want always on mode. But, I can't find any information about flash bank sizes, or the switch, so I have not been able to update the bios on this rare thing. So is there anyone with information about this thing I would be grateful.
  18. Hi witch bios allow to boot the xbox without a dvd drive ? and witch config i need to change ?
  19. To be honest I'm just not sure If I should swap my softmoded MB to the halo edition or softmod them both. I honestly want to sell the MB but I donk know how to show its a Halo Edition on the /MB. ANY ideas ?
  20. So I really want to upgrade the HDD but I'm super worried about bricking my system. How risky is it and what are the best steps to take for preventing a brick?
  21. This is my frist time working with a Tsop im looking for advice ik i got 1..0 1.1 versions does this wire need to be a single copper or can it be threaded also hexen i can find but a bios checker i can not fine any where
  22. Cool video about xbox development, i wonder what your thoughts are, and has anyone got more of this content to share? I'm curious about what PC ports exist and what may have been possible Just read through RandySlims post here, he has a good list of games... nice to run into 'digthatbox' again... its outside of my oxbox TUNNELVISION so i guess i forgot about it
  23. I rebuilt the LPC port on my Xbox v1.6 today and had kind of a tough time with it, so I'm curious what everyone else uses to mod their consoles; type of wire, flux, solder, soldering iron/station, soldering tip, soldering temperature, cleaning solution, etc. I used some 30AWG wire-wrapping wire from Amazon, an Aoyue 937+ with the fine tip that came with it, RadioShack rosin flux paste, and RadioShack 62/36/2 rosin-core solder. I've soldered quite a few 0.1" headers on microcontroller and FPGA development kits with great success, but their pads were like twice as thick as those on the Xbox's LPC port. I had a hell of a time getting the pads to heat so that the solder would flow nicely. I also ended up burning the solder mask in a couple of places where I left the tip on too long trying to get the pads heated. Fortunately it still seems to work, but the joints look pretty bad. I think part of the problem was the fine solder tip, but I didn't have much luck with a chisel tip either.
