  1. Yes but lets start with some more information. Disassemble the Xbox and take some pics of the main board take one that shows the hole main board and some close ups of the circuit board near the front. The crap that leaks from the clock capacitor is corrosive and eats the copper tracks. In most cases you will need to clean the board and add some wire links to replace the damaged tracks. 2. I am going to guess here because I really am a bit confused by you description of the problem. I am thinking that the clock cap has leaked and it eating at the tracks on the front of the main board. SS Dave Those that can hard-mod, Those that can't soft-mod.
  3. The poster of this mod is saying he should have blank boards for sale in a couple of weeks. SS Dave Those who can hard-mod, Those who can’t soft-mod.
  4. My bad about the link and sorry for the delay in getting back and had day outside in the sun trying to get rid of the dungeon tan. It something I will be on the look out for.
  5. Seen this on Faceache it might help https://www.facebook.com/groups/ogxbox/permalink/2474933472777394/
  6. The solder work on the caps is not the problem. I would at least solder the top pins of the mod chip as the ones I marked look like they have developed a bad joint so do the ones in the 1st pic and give it a go. Also move the switch back and forward 5 or 6 times. Try that and get back to me. SS Dave Those who can hard-mod, Those who can’t soft-mod.

    Capacitor Issues

The reason that the caps fail is talked about in this WIKI https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague As for what Cap's there is plenty of debates online regarding brands to use. But for me I use low ESR style caps in my repairs and I have not had any problems. SS Dave Those who can hard-mod, Those who can’t soft-mod.

    Capacitor Issues

Yes those Cap's need to be replaced there about to explode. And yes it happens to heaps if not all of electronic's. I have been replacing faulty caps for as long as I can remember. Isopropyl Alcohol is safe to clean the PCB with the higher the percentage the better(like a good scotch). SS Dave Those who can hard-mod, Those who can’t soft-mod.
  10. Now scratching my head . You have a great time and it will be waiting for you when you return and maybe with a fresh out look you will see some thing silly that's stopping it from working. Cheers SS Dave
  11. Link the cut trace and boot from the Aladdin mod chip is the led steady green? if so is the Xbox listed on your network and can you FTP into it? SS Dave
  12. Hi KPlanet Your soldering is better that a lot of other work I have seen there is a couple of things that I would re-solder. The 2 spots that are circled look like dry joints you need to either remove the solder and reapply fresh solder or use some flux paste and reheat them. They are data from the mod-chip. In this pic you need more heat and flux paste but that's just me been picky Here I would re-solder the pins inside the box just be carefull as the solder next to P7R2 is a link and looks like a solder blob and you may have to put a short bit of wire in it place. And just above the one of the blue wire is that a scratch and damage to the traces. With the hard drive the WD drives around that age are not the quietest while working so be side the spinning sound can you hard any other sounds? With the DVD drive it probably needs a new loading belt don't worry to much about it. When you reassemble the Xbox make sure that the 40 way cable is fully plugged in and the multi way power plug on the DVD is plugged in as well as the hard drive power. Double check the AV plug is in properly as well. SS Dave Those who can Hard-Mod, Those who can't Soft-Mod.
  13. What make and model of hard drive? Is it making noise. IE can you here it working head moving disk spinning? Have you tried to boot a DVD install disk? And make sure if the DuoX2 chip has a small switch on the outer edge that it is toward the center on the chip. And I will top it of with some pic's of both sides of the mother board would help. SS Dave Those who can hard-mod, Those who can’t soft-mod.
  14. I know it should have worked but the same with my version 1.0 it should have worked with both of the BIOS's that where in the DUO X2 chip at the time and the chip and both banks where working fine in a 1.2 box that I have not re-flashed yet. I am clutching at straws with my Xbox that had no video may be it was interacting with the on-board bios even with the D0 grounded as the on-board bios was corrupted by me flashing a 256 kb to a 1 meg chip. It seems computers have a mind of there own and no amount of input from us can make it change it's mind SS Dave Those who can hard-mod, Those who can’t soft-mod.
  15. Don't worry about re-soldering or cutting the trace. I had a version 1.1 that did the same it'would only work on the version 1.6 BIOS in a DUO X2 mod chip and I found that it was still active on my network and was able to FTP in to it. Try flashing this to you Aladdin chip and give it a go. Just remove the ver 1.6 ver 1.6 bios.bin SS Dave Those who can hard-mod, Those who can’t soft-mod.
  16. Lets Back up a bit. When you had a Aladdin mod chip with a Cromwell bios you got a pic on the screen. But with the M8plus you had no video. And it's a version 1.6 mother board? Am I correct so far. SS Dave Those who can hard-mod, Those who can’t soft-mod.
  17. I would normally use the D0 on the bottom of the PCB but the last one I did I forgot to run the wire and refitted the mobo so I cut the trace it's next to the text U7C1 SS Dave Those who can hard-mod, Those who can’t soft-mod.
  18. I have had a an version 1.1 give no video with a mod chip and it was a BIOS problem it would work with a M8 plus but not a modded M8 one and it was just no video I was still able to FTP to it. SS Dave Those who can hard-mod, Those who can’t soft-mod.
  19. HI Sidocious I this pic one of the solder joints looks suss some more flux and a bit more heat for a fraction longer is needed As mentioned by KaosEngineer shorten the wire length as strange and intermittent things can happen with long wire run even sometime the way the wire is rune can cause problems. Are you using a D0 wire or have you cut the Lframe point? SS Dave Those who can hard-mod, Those who can’t soft-mod.
