About Me

  1. Hey everyone, I'm having a problem with an original xbox that will turn on, with a solid green light for a second, then turn itself off. Then back on with an orange blinking light, then turn itself off and on again until finally staying on with a blinking orange light with it's fan running what I think is full power (haven't confirmed this). I can open the disc tray when in this state, but I can't power the xbox off unless I unplug the power from the back. I opened up the xbox. I believe it's a v1.2 motherboard. It was in pretty good condition I thought considering the original owner said it sat in a closet for the past decade or so. This xbox was not modded. I read that an orange blinking light could mean the xbox was overheating, which would explain the high fan speed. So I removed the old thermal paste, and added new thermal paste, put it back together, plugged it in, and the same issue is happening. I have tried a brand new A/V cable and power cord that I bought on amazon and that didn't seem to make a difference. Does anyone know what an orange blinking light and this sequence of powering on and off mean? I can't find good documentation on it anywhere. I'm also looking to try anything else at this point if you have any recommendations. Here is a link to a video of the symptoms described above and some pictures of the montherboard. Thanks for any help in advance! https://imgur.com/a/7hMZWFn?
  2. XBOX 1.2 TSOP flashed with Cerbios that will power up and run for about 2 minutes and then just powers itself off Hit power button again and it powers on right away. This time it stays on for less time...and each iteration of this powers it on for less time than previously until its only on for 15 seconds or so After I let it sit for a half day, it'll run again for a couple minutes and then exhibit the same behavior. This occurs regardless if the DVD is connected during power on sequence (have DVD check bypassed in Cerbios). This sounds like a classic Cap issue...or could it be a power supply issue? To rule out one or the other, what is the easiest way to determine what is giving/causing the power off signal? Thanks!
  3. painted it with a primer coat of white and then some white gloss "protectic enamel" (all spray paint). and i put an led light strip that i had under my bed. can change the color with a remote. iv got a brand new IDE HDD im probly gonna throw in it. 160gb. or maybe a 2tb i havnt decided yet. also want to get a dremal and try out some window mods on another console or a 360. my video of the leds wont upload IMG_0221.3gp IMG_0221.3gp
  4. hi can anyone help my og xbox keeps shutting of randomly any ideas?.
  5. I got original xbox with intentions to only use working dvd drive to swap for parts but up found the existing hdd looked damaged as original owner said xbox was making arching noises. I figured to see if I can get the xbox going again. The machine powers on and shuts off at 1:15(s) that is with a working hdd. I swapped the power supply from a working machine and same thing. The dvd drive does work on a working machine. I relocked the hdd from another machine to this one the hdd was softmodded didn't work. I then reformatted with stock C and E files relocked hdd didn't work. The original xbox powers on automatically when plugged in. The original xbox has a Xecuter 2.6 mod chip. I ran the setup without modchip installed, with modchip turned off and with modchip on - no improvements. Any suggestions as what to do next? What to test for? When on stock dashboard I could not load a disc properly. When on softmod dashboard disc would not load properly. Not sure if there is a ide cable issue? Not sure if the hdd is setup correctly for given bios? Not sure if bios is corrupt. Dvd drive - works Power Supply - works Replaced Hdd Motherboard ? Modchip ?
  6. I have a 1.6 Xbox with Xenium 24k modchip. System worked fine but feeding buttons prior to install. Lpc rebuild and added pin header and Xbox boots with chip great. Eject button takes me to Xenium is and power button boots into my dashboard (Xbmc4gamers). The issue I’m having, is that I can’t use the power or eject after in turn it on. Don’t think it’s a trace issue due to it being a 1.6 and not having the issue prior to the chip. Any help would be awesome
  7. i've seen some bad info out there for noobs trying to mod a xbox for the first time. the 2 main ones are to null or modify your hdd key(without disclosing any of the dangers) instead of just keeping the old hdd as a backup to create another drive if needed and the 2nd one is to pry the gpu heat sink off. please don't do this, especially on a xbox that has sentimental value to u. this is a good way to ruin it. we really need to start being more careful what we tell noobs to do. i know my original xbox has a lot of sentimental value to me because it still has the game saves from where i used to go to lan parties with it back in the mid 2000's. i'd be heart broken if one of these guides caused me to ruin it. many other would probably feel the same way about theirs.
  8. I'm getting horrible lag spikes that makes the system unplayable. I bought Mechwarrior. It plays fine off the disc. Zero problems. When I load it onto the HDD it is unplayable. It's the same with any game I load onto the HDD. Here is an example of the booting sequence into Mechwarrior, both with and without lag. Lagging boot: https://streamable.com/yohvt8 Normal boot: https://streamable.com/71a6ne The lag goes on throughout the game, particularly when heavy combat is involved. Halo is even worse. You can see from just the boot logo that the FPS is like 10. Why does this happen? I even noticed that when shutting the system completely off and powering it back on, the green xbox animation will lag at times. Watch the very end where it begins to stutter. Sometimes, however, it doesn't stutter at all. Lagging: https://streamable.com/vdoktf Normal: https://streamable.com/5220rt I read that the green Xbox animation at the very beginning is algorithmically driven (not off HDD or ROM), so if it is lagging what does that say about the xbox? Is it a cpu/gpu thing? After spending a few hundred $ getting this system up and running I couldn't be any more disappointed. Current specs:Xbox 1.62TB Seagate Barracuda: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H2RR55Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 StarTech IDE/SATA adapter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EOJNGC2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 24" 40-pin 80-Wire Ribbon Cable: https://www.ebay.com/itm/274553744014 Things I've tried: New 40 pin cable New HDD New SATA/IDE Adapter Putting old IDE HDD back in via 40 pin able (works with much less lag, but still noticeable) I'm at a loss and any/all help would be most welcome. Thank you, -R
  9. Hey there gang. I have an xbox 1.6 that is completely shot. I have done everything possible to get it to power on but no luck. I wanted to know if there was a way of getting the game saves off the HDD. The Xbox was not modded.
  10. So I have a question....and it may sound dumb but ill explain and hopefully one of you wonderful lads and gents will have the answer I need.... I had two 1tb 3.5 hdds one got locked to a burned out mobo on a 1.2 xbox... 1.can I format that drive without the hdd key? 2.I don't want the data off of it just want to wipe it. 3.Its a WD Blue series hdd. Hopefully someone can relay some info on this... [Mods feel free to put this in the right forum topic as I wasn't sure where this should go]
  11. I bought a 1.6 xbox with plans to modchip it. The first time I booted it I got a FRAG, then after turning it off and on it was fine. I tried booting a few times and everything worked, so I chalked the first frag up to disuse for years. I opened the xbox to clean it in preperation for the modchip, make sure caps were fine and all. The metal shield was pretty rusty so following some advise from other posts here I sanded it and painted it with Rustoleum. Other than that, I didn't do anything to the rest of the box. Since putting it back together it FRAGs every boot. Did I cover a grounding connection and need to clear that? Unsure of what move to make. Here are some shots of the board. https://imgur.com/a/iuc8fc1
  12. Spent the last few weeks modding the thing and just noticed this Besides from trace rot (which I don't have the skills or time to fix), could it be anything else I can try? It happens even with the AV cable disconnected, so it's not that short circuiting. Thanks heaps guys.
  13. Hello everyone, A while back I bought a couple of Xbox's 1.0 , 1.3 & a 1.6 . Fixed the first two up and running , now the last one turns on and off 3 times, then flashes red/green without video, previous owner says it had the error 06 but for me It doesn't give a video signal at all. A visual inspection of the board for any bulged capacitors shows no obvious faults, although I am aware that sometimes with an ESR meter (which i dont have) you can tell which is good and which is bad. I'm using a component cable and the V1.6 xbox is a PAL unit and the hard drive inside is definitely not stock 160GB storage and no hard mod is installed. A quick search gives me the idea that its probably the eeprom ( dead or corrupted ) if that is the case and assuming i have no backup as i do not know what the previous owner did to it, what should i do ? if not any ideas what should i check / do to troubleshoot the problem ? . I have a Rpi , arduino and an old eeprom universal flasher ( i will check if it supports the chips ). Oh and i have an Aladdin XT PLUS2 on hand if that would help , but kindly note that I have never used them before but if someone has a guide that would be appreciated as well. Best Regards SP
  14. Anyone know if there's a way to use ogx360 to power on/off the Xbox using this? Would be a really nice quality of life upgrade to the OG
  15. I just bought this used knowing the startup was a little finicky at times. Everything was working fine, but now on startup I get 4 clicking sounds and after 3 times it frags. When I turn off the modchip it boots into the blob just fine. can anyone point me in the right direction to resolve this problem? This is a crystal version: 2004-10-04, other than that I haven't found any other info.
  16. I've recently softmodded my xbox and came across this problem on 2 games so far out of 20 that i've tried, one being gta san andreas which i put on the HDD through ftp with the fix found on this forum to get it to properly launch as well as deus ex invisible war which i played off the disc https://imgur.com/vGzh0TE I have no idea what could be causing it as it's only been happening to 2 games so far, any help would be appreciated fixing this
  17. I bought an OG xbox, softmodded it with Rocky5, upgraded the HDD to a 2TB Seagate Barricuda, have an 80 pin IDE adapter connected to it. I bought 10 games to start off with, to include Halo: CE (the original Halo) and Mechwarrior. I ripped all 10 games to my hard drive. I get horrible, unplayable lag when playing any game (Halo is the most noticeable). Any time I fire the weapon everything lags. I also notice that for every single game, the startup animations (The grey/white/black "Microsoft Game Studios" logo) also lags, so I don't think it's framerate dependent. Here's a link to the logo animation that I am talking about. The animation in this video is how it should look. It's smooth. On my screen (I can't upload a video, sorry), it stutters, lags, and is generally unsmooth. This animation isn't smooth at all, but just showing what I'm talking about for reference. Does this have something to do with HDMI? I am running the output to an hdmi adapter that plays on the monitor. I have tried multiple monitors and have the same problem. The only thing I haven't tried is the component to TV route, because I do not have a TV. I'm wondering if this was a waste of money. Games are unplayable from the HDD, which I thought was supposed to even speed things up. Any help would be appreciated, thank you. -R
  18. Hi I recently got back to the og after seeing the clock cap problem. I have a version 1.0 that has trace damage from the cap. It works boots fine and replaced the thermal paste on gpu & cpu with MX4. I dont think its a heating issue. When I play a game it shuts off. On the dash the temps seem to be at 45 degrees Celsius 1. I am looking to preseve this for the future, is it possible this is a capacitor replated problem ? 2. This is a list ive tried to piece together with information looking around. Will these be suitable? for version 1.0 and 1.4 versions https://au.element14.com/panasonic/eeufr0j152l/cap-1500-f-6-3v-20/dp/2760316 https://au.element14.com/rubycon/16zl1500mefc12-5x20/cap-1500-f-16v-20/dp/1144693 https://industrial.panasonic.com/sa/products/pt/aluminum-cap-lead/models/EEUFR1A681 https://au.element14.com/rubycon/25zl100mefc6-3x11/cap-100-f-25v-20/dp/1144697 https://au.element14.com/rubycon/25ml22mefc5x5/cap-22-f-25v-20/dp/8126402 https://au.element14.com/nichicon/uut1c470mcl1gs/cap-47-f-16v-radial-smd/dp/8823200 https://au.element14.com/nichicon/uwx1c100mcl1gb/cap-10-f-16v-radial-smd/dp/8823022?st=16v 10uf nichicon wx 3. 19. Here's how it happened I end up using a toothbrush to clean my xbox cause I'm too stupid and the rubberbelt came off and now I'm having trouble here getting it on again anyway to do this without a screwdriver at all I hate to waste my money on a whole new one
  20. I have a modded v1.6 that has been used regularly, although not heavily over it's life time. Went to turn on today, powers on for a second and shuts down again. Have tried a different power cable, same result. I have also blown out the vents, although not to dusty. I have found that if I dissconnect the display port it will boot fully, discs spinning etc, but with the flashing green/orange lights. If I connect the display back to the unit it powers straight down. Could anyone offer advice please? Thank you.
  21. In the Build v1.1.8\Extras Disc\Documents folder their is a txt file that says: You can run the "Xbox Softmodding Tool Extras Disc.iso" from the Xbox HDD. What happens if I run the virtual image and wish to restore xbox to factory using that image. Will it corrupt the drive as the image is being read off the same drive? Or being a virtual image it is stored in a temporary location and once the xbox is restored it is deleted and won't interfere when restoring.
  22. Hello everyone I have been working on a slim xbox build and have it 95% working the way it should with some off the shelf parts that are not the pico psu. The only sticky issue that is pretty minor is the switched power requirements. I don't really understand electronics that well past what I call a "blackbox" understanding. You know, I understand that the boards I use say they will take a certain voltage in and output whatever but no knowledge to build a more complex circuit for switching the reset line for the smc. I am using a meanwell psu that is rated for 5v20A that you can find in a lot of places on the internet. Then I am using two boards from Pololu. One to step up the voltage to 12v:https://www.pololu.com/product/2568 and another to knock the 5v down to 3.3v https://www.pololu.com/product/4090 I was wondering if you all could help me with a schematic or some understanding of how to switch on and off the 3.3v signals to help reset the smc. I have some idea that you could use some transistors maybe to accomplish this but I am not super sure. The goal here would be to use the above boards in custom pcb for future slim xbox builds. Sorry if this isn't super clear Here is the picture of my install and somewhat self evident why it could be better looking
  23. I got an xbox cheap as the drive didn't open - easy fix I thought and was delighted to find it was indeed an easy fix and that the drive worked. I turned it off and came back 6 hours later to find it was quite warm on the side where the power supply is located inside the xbox. Is this normal or something to worry about? Thanks in advance.
  24. Hey Guys, big fan of modchips that started back on the original Xbox days. A friend of mine did my system and been doing every console since. I actually bought 2 more original xboxes over a decade ago thinking i was going to do more with them. Not until now i decided to get to work on them again. First main issue is both of them are missing the HDDs. So I'm wondering would I be able to plug in an IDE (250gb) drive and boot to an older Hexen after I install the modchip to format it? Or can I even boot the system without a HDD to atleast see something? Didn't want to take any risks over it, already waiting 10 years.
  25. So i have a 1.0 xbox that doesnt stay on, 2 times it goes on off and then stays blinking. Tried to install a aladdin chip and it does the same. Any advice? What may be the faulty part?
