    Hard Drive Is Dying

Hi folks, Am a very newbie lol , I bought an original Xbox soft modded (0.38.0515A Build 565) . Worked fine for few days, but now 95% of the time when i boot it up I can hear the click of death... CLICK CLIcK ... the Hard drive is dying and it stays in the boot screen. Every-time i try to read/write from the hard drive (FTP) it starts clicking and I can't do anything and sometimes a screen with error 09 appears. I learned from searching on google ,that I need a HDD key to replace the hard drive before it dies completely , so I managed to copy it from the UnleachX info screen ( HDD key + Serial number ). Is it possible to replace the hard drive ? Is there any hope ? PS: I do not have any soldering tools/skills and sorry for my English. Thank you in advance
  2. My original xbox died 10 years ago and the drive has been sitting on the shelf ever since. I recently installed an Aladdin XT Plus2 chip in a 1.6 Xbox and I have hexen19 burned onto a DVD. How Do I replace the stock drive with the drive from my old u modded xbox? The reason I want to use the old drive is that I want to transfer my save files off of it then place a new drive in the xbox, if this isn't possible, is there another way to transfer my files off the old drive. The drive is a Seagate not a WD.
  3. Was pretty fun once I got control of the soldering
  4. Quick question I am finding difficult to search online. Like most, I mainly play games directly from the hard drive, but do occasionally like to play my games on disc. I am wondering if there is an application out there that gives you the option of disabling the dvd drive on startup? I want to keep my dvd drive alive for as long as possible, and I cringe everytime I boot the Xbox and the laser searches for a disc that isn't there. It seems I am just degrading the lifetime of the drive that way. If I can disable the drive when I am not using it, I bet I would be able to squeeze more life out of it. Thanks!
  5. I am in the process of modding my multiple xbox consoles so that they all have the same files and also hdd keys so that I can mix and match the hard drives across all systems. Hdd keys seem simple enough but I have a few questions about the config sector of the hdd. The config sector is I think the first sector of the hdd and stores certain configuration settings. These settings are unable to be changed as far as I am aware. https://xboxdevwiki.net/Config_Sector. I will be using configmagic to match the different settings accros the many eeproms and ftping over my gamesaves. I have a concern that if I swap over a hdd that these settings in the config sector may come into conflict with the new xbox it is placed in. Most of those settings are not a worry. Host name is something I am not so sure about, I can't find any info relating to the original xbox hostname or how to change it. I would hate to switch a hard drive and because host name on said hdd doesn't match with rest of the system something bad happens. I would like some help with this issue of mine, regarding hostname and if there is anything else in the config sector I should be concerned about with what I am trying to do. (Mix and match hard drives accross multiple consoles, I won't be cloning or full eeprom flashing).
  6. SO when I turn it on, it starts and stops a few times before it finally gets going and then when it does I get no image or sound and the light just flashes red and green. At first I thought it was my IDE adapter on my new hard drive, but when I replaced the unnamed brand one with a startech it still did it. To be clear, my xbox DOES work if I keep fucking with the power button and I can play games normally (Have not extensively tested to see if it randomly shuts off or anything after a long period of time. Anyone know what the problem could be?
  7. Hi all! I need some help with switching out the hard drive in my XBOX. I've been battling with it for some time, so I decided to get some help. My XBOX version is 1.1. I currently have it softmodded with Rocky5's softmod. Originally, I had gotten a 1TB SATA drive for my XBOX (WD10EZEX-22MFCAO, which seemed like a good choice, since many other WD10EZEX drives seemed to work for others in the hard drive compatibility chart). Along with it, I got a SATA to IDE adapter, an 80-wire IDE cable, and the molex power splitter. When I first attempted to configure the drive, the exposed contacts from the back of the SATA to IDE adapter (where the power connects in) touched the back of the hard drive when I was hot swapping the IDE cable. There was a spark (I didn't think to cover the connection), and since CHIMP would never load, I assumed I had fried the drive. I ordered another one, and it wouldn't work either, so I realized it was a compatibility issue. After this, I decided to switch to a smaller, cheaper IDE drive (this Maxtor Diamond Plus 9 hard drive) that a friend said he had gotten to work before. I ordered it and attempted to configure it (using the original 40 wire IDE cable and no SATA to IDE adapter of course), and while I was able to launch CHIMP, it errors out part way through the process. Here's what I've been doing: Install CHIMP to E:/Apps, and place linuxboot.cfg into my E: drive Open the XBOX. Unplug the molex cable from the original hard drive and connect the splitter to it, one end of which I connect back to the original hard drive Place the new hard drive on top of my DVD drive (with the antistatic bag the drive came in between them) Check the mode of my new hard drive. I have tried it both with the jumper in the Cable Select Enabled position, and in Slave mode (no jumper) Launch the XBOX and wait 5 minutes for the DVD drive to go to sleep Swap the IDE cable from the DVD drive to the slave drive (within 5 seconds) Go to my applications list and launch CHIMP On the first menu button prompt, I press A to confirm that the slave drive is connected CHIMP begins to run its processes. After loading for a bit, it gets stuck on a screen saying that it can't allocate resources, with a picture of the Linux penguin in the top right I'm assuming that since CHIMP can actually boot up with this drive, that the problem might not be the drive itself, though I could be wrong (with the previous WD10EZEX drives, my XBOX would just completely freeze up when I booted CHIMP). I've tested my XBOX with just the existing hard drive installed, and that has no problems, as I'm able to play games fine and navigate through the dashboard just fine. I'm not entirely sure where my problem could be coming from, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
  8. Upon bootup my xbox goes as far as to displaying the XBOX screen and then freezes there, if I try to eject the tray the screen goes blank and flashes for a moment before bringing back up the XBOX screen. I've received no error and have yet to put in a recovery disc
  9. I own quite a few original xbox consoles and I am currently in the process of having them all modded. I want them to all have the same save files and be able to switch each hard drive to another console if needed. Using configmagic, I have a little problem with the unique hdd keys and current hdd unlock password. I can change the unique hdd keys so all my xboxs match but I can not change the current hdd unlock password (I hear its generated by a combination of things). I want to be able to mix and match hard drives. How do I get around this so that all the keys match on all my consoles? I know there is a program to null the keys but some of my gamesaves I believe are signed by the unique hard drive key so I would like the unique hdd to remain the same. Hopefully there is something I'm missing.

  12. Have a two original hard drive from a dead xbox but do not have a eeprom.bin or a hdd key backup, is there a solution to unlock? or a cloning hd from a working xbox?
  13. Hi, have a fresh repair xbox 1.4 console but now I should replace hard disk and put a one stock taken from another hard disk how can I do? The console modded with openxenium modchip.
  14. I appreciated everyone helping in the other thread to be me where I am on my old Xbox! I have a question regarding swapping drives. Here is what I have: XBOX A Old xbox originally soft modded in the early 2000's. Has a 200 GB drive in it with all my games. I have re-softmodded it to the Rocky Softmod. I did not Null the hard drive when i did the Rocly soft mod (I may have done it when i originally modded this thing 15+ years ago). Xbox B Xbox I just bought. Has the factory hard drive in it. I have used the Rocky soft mod on this box and have nulled the hard drive. Can I swap the hard drive from Xbox A into Xbox B by just disconnecting and plugging it in? I want to do this because Xbox A has corrosion issues and just randomly turns off. Should I null the hard drive in Xbox A before doing this? Any help would be appreciated!
  15. Hi, Could someone tell me please if it's possible to use a 2tb hard drive (or either 3tb) on a softmodded console ? Regards.
  16. I have a softmodded xbox and upgraded to a 250GB drive. I used Chimp 261812 - I cloned the C and E drive and selected the option for the F drive to get all unallocated space in the program. Problem is that the F drive only has 123GB ( both C and E have just over 4gb respectively) so I seem to be missing quite a few gigs - any ideas? Thanks
  17. Hi Looks like the power supply of my Xbox has died and was going to swap it with another Xbox a friend gave me, but turns out the hardware got changed somewhere along the lines and it's not do-able to swap the power supplies, so figured i'd just swap the hard drive instead allowing me to keep my games/dashboard etc. It's been a long time since i soldered the chip on my dead Xbox and the other one i have has a different chip. Anyway, am getting 06, 13 and 21 errors on the Xbox with the newly installed hard drive. Is there anyway to keep my existing files on my original hard drive? Remember something about the locking key on the Xbox hard drive - do i need to copy this over from the hard drive i removed? Am looking at downloading the Hexen disc to start off. Any help would be great. Thanks
  19. I have heard in order to upgrade your xbox original hard drive from the original to a 121gb or more you need a special bios. I am clueless on this topic any help would be appreciated. Also if you couldn't tell already my xbox is hardmodded. Any help would be appreciated!!
  20. I have an unused 80GB 2.5" IDE HDD bought for an old laptop which died before I got around to fitting it. The problem or maybe not a problem is the 2.5" IDE to 3.5" IDE adapter. I've found what I think are suitable ones on Ebay/Amazon (F 2.5" with M 3.5" to connect to the IDE cable). But the thing I'm not sure about is the power supply. The ones I've found have a (F) Molex connector + cable but only wired with red and black cables. This I assume is 5v and ground ie. normal Molex power connections. Is this enough to power the 2.5" HDD? It should be but it got me thinking about why the Xbox HDD power supply has both 5v and 12v connections (red + ground and yellow + ground) if they're not both needed. If a standard 3.5" HDD in the Xbox needs more than 12v available perhaps a 2.5" HDD needs more than 5v too. Knowledgeable advice appreciated.
  21. Hello new to the Xbox modding scene I picked up a hard modded xbox and everything works great except for sound and I can’t figure out why... I have tried different cables and different tv’s still no luck Don’t know to much about chips and what it has to be honest I’m still learning lol
  22. I hace a 300gb IDE hard drive that I used in a sodtmodded Xbox back in the day - only realized this evening that it is locked and that I no longer have the Xbox I made it for - is there anyway to unlock it - I have softmodded xboxes lying around - would they help unlock it? Thanks
  23. Hardmod is done on 1.6 but I still have the stock hard drive , should it be locked or is there something I need to do? I have recently install kixxx emulator but have it in apps in the boot dash that hexen installed as I don't see how to put in emulators folder. Works fine just wrong location, how do I move into emulators folder? Still learning how this file system all works.
  24. Hello, I've just upgraded my hard drive. Added a 80-wire 40 pin and with a pata to sata adapter. It cloned just fine. I selected selective partition (C,e,f and g) as it stated G would take the rest of the space. It's a 500Gb hard drive. But.. It says partition G is 0Gb available.. And F is at 120Gb. But XBpartitioner 1.3 sees G at around 300Gb. So why isn't it available for me to use? But really F can take it all correct? So no need for G..? Okay, I disabled partition G and filled partition F with all it can have(it said 400Gb ish) and I wrote that to the disk with XBpartitioner 1.3. And now it says it only has 246Gb... Where did the rest go... I'm lost UPDATE: okay... UnleashX shows me under storage menu that is "sees" 469Gb ish.. But only available 246Gb... But the partition is empty??? Anyone got a clue?
  25. These past few weeks have been a real voyage of rediscovery as I hadn't softmodded an xbox in years and the scene has changed so much - Rocky 5 was completely new to me. I was wondering how to go about installing XBMC on startup - which version is the best etc... Sorry for sounding like such a noob but this is all new to me again. I have coin ops, games and emulators like the Megadrive and Snes already installed. Any help greatly appreciated.
