About Me

  1. I have a few softmodded xbox consoles at this stage and I'm looking at buying hard drives to upgrade them. I'm wondering if SATA is slower than IDE even with the more expensive Startech SATA 2 IDE adapter? Is an SSD drive on a par with an IDE drive? Thanks
  2. Is it possible to attach Xbox IDE hard drive to a windows 7 or later SATA PC and build the hard drive from a softmodded xbox or do I need to find a really old PC? I know I used a Dell Optiplex years ago but I have it away to a mate a couple of years ago and he doesn't have it anymore. If I need an old PC can anyone recommend a specific spec - as I might have to buy one second hand - thanks in advance.
  3. Hi Does anyone have some current eBay links to suitable cables? I have an 80 way cable but to get it to connect to the bits the cable is twisted all over the place and the orientation seems wrong compared to the original 40 way cable. So links to something that fits tidily and sensible orientation would be great, thanks.... (Global shipping, I'm in UK not USA!)
  4. I can’t seem to find a clear answer anywhere. Do I remove the jumper pin from the sata HDD since the sata/ide adaptor has its own jumper pin selections? I just need to know the configuration so I can clone it using chimp. Any help would be appreciated thanks!
  5. I've noticed that roms on CoinOps take much longer to load when using a PATA-SATA adapter and a 2TB HDD - is this a known issue? Thanks
  6. I have a 1.0 Xbox that has the dreaded "Christmas Lights" flashing on the eject button. It tries to boot twice before doing its signature Red and Green flashing. Nothing is displayed on the TV so no codes are provided. It also makes a terrible noise when it fails to boot up. After tearing it down completely, cleaning everything top to bottom, removing the clock capacitor (which did not leak thank god), opening and inspecting the DVD drive then hooking everything back up I'm about 99% sure the condition and noise is being caused by a faulty HDD. My question is, assuming my diagnosis is correct, if I bought a SATA HDD (with the proper cables and converter) and installed an Aladdin XT Plus2 Modchip inside would it bring this Xbox back to life? Again, the theory is that the original HDD took a shat so I'm not worried about the DVD drive or motherboard. If there are any other steps I should take (EXCEPT softmodding and replacing the whole console) please let me know. If you require any other information I can also provide it for you. Thank you for your time and help on the matter!
  7. Hello! My setup I have been running XBMC-Emustation dash on my V1.6 Xbox with a WD2500JB IDE drive ... the system was soft modded using Xbox-Softmodding-Tool. Both tools created by @Rocky5 https://github.com/Rocky5/ I want to update my storage and have both a 2TB WD20EARS and a 3TB WD30EFRX. I purchased the following ribbon and PATA>SATA off Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EOJNGC2 https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B073CKHX7X (I bought two of each; I upgraded my brother's OG Xbox as well using a 1TB WD Blue drive... don't have the exact model in front of me ... but the ribbon and PATA>SATA worked amazing.) The Issue After loading the initial Xbox green splash screen, I am not booted into the Dashboard. Instead, the screen goes black and it just hangs. I've found I can open/close the DVD tray and THEN it will boot the dashboard. I've also noticed the speed is slower in both the initial splash screen and the loading of the dashboard itself (after I manually open/close the DVD tray to get the dashboard to load). Again, tested with both the 2TB and 3TB drives Things I've Tried Re-softmodding the system Both 2TB and 3TB drives Different default Dashboard (UnleashX) Additional StarTech adaptor Additional 80 pin IDE cable ... Anyone's input would be appreciated!
  8. I am using a generic IDE to SATA( I have had it forever- cant find any identifiers) & a WD black 2tb. I am getting super slow boot times & random partition corruptions. I have followed the tutorials as far a using xbpart 1.0 to make a 230mb partition, then 1.1 to make it 927.78 w 64k clusters. I feel that I am doing it all right, but G never shows up & F is never the right size in other apps (eolution x - unleash x - XBMC) Also sometimes C or E will just end up 0mb after a reboot. Just gone. I am also getting super slow boot times & am running Yoshihiro-m8-1.6B-Memory-Fixe-Beta4.bin for a bios flashed into the main bank. Any Ideas?
  9. Hi there, I'm having some strange issues formatting SATA HDDs on a 1,6 Xbox with and Aladding xt +2 modchip. I have upgraded to a 1TB SATA drive with the SATA/IDE adaptor and the 80 wire cable. I just did this on a Xbox 1.0 and it worked just fine, but when I try on the 1.6 Xbox even though I try to write the partition at 927.7 GB it never shows up correctly after the reboot, the F drive is only 120GB and after many tries still cannot access the full amount of memory.. Tried a bunch of times, wondered if something was wrong with the drive (it was used but was working perfectly before I upgraded my computer to an SSD) so I went out and bought a brand new 2TB Seagate drive and I'm still having a ton of weirdness. When I try to make both partitions 927.7GB it still shows very strangely after a reboot. It shows (again) that the F drive is only 120GB but is showing the G drive at like over 1700 GBs. To my knowledge the largest size these partitions (with 64KB clusters) can be is 1024GB and anything over that will not work correctly. I kept messing with it and I can't get the two equal sized partitions no matter what. I have tried loading some games on and it seems to work (games load), and the memory seems to display correctly (minus the size of the game copied) after I copy a game. Should I bother worrying about this? The GBs do after all add up to pretty much 2TB... It just seems so strange because I was really pretty sure you can't have partitions over 1TB.. Also since I had no issues before on the 1.0 version I was thinking it could just be the Xbox somehow...? That seems wrong too though... Any clarification or suggestions would be super appreciated, thanks a bunch.
  10. Hi Everyone, I have a Winbond TSOP flashed 1.4 xbox, Using EvoX M8+ F and G bios. Used the Hexen 2018 disc. just upgraded to a WD 2TB HDD. After upgrading I got a black screen. I put everything back to normal (original HDD) and is working. The adapter I'm using: SATA Adapter Cable I'm using: 80 wire cable Video of xbox turning on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTHcKnIUwF4 After looking at the SATA to IDE adapter, the capacitors looks bad. They have some white stuff. Could this be the adapter? the adapter is set to master Capacitors: https://image.ibb.co/bP0yd9/20180808_190838.jpgInsert other media https://image.ibb.co/mQ5mWU/20180808_190845.jpg https://image.ibb.co/cpgRWU/20180808_190852.jpg

  12. I'm not sure if this is the correct forum but here goes... What's the best way to clone a 2TB SATA Xbox HDD to another 2TB drive? I have an Inateck FD2002 that is a dual SATA USB 3.0 dock, that has an offline cloning feature, but every time I try to clone my 2TB Xbox SATA HDD using the offline cloning feature, I initiate the clone function, then it briefly starts the process, but the dock restarts itself. The USB cable is not plugged into it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  13. Results Below! I compare load times while controlling all variables of the startech ide2sat2 adapter vs the cheap adapter that most people recommend. There are significant differences in both price and performance. cheapo ux bootup 2:28 - 3:09 = 41 seconds halo 2 load 4:11 - 4:56 = 45 seconds coinops dd3 5:42 - 6:25 = 43 seconds startech ux bootup 8:00 - 8:20 = 20 seconds halo2 load 10:05 - 10:25 = 20 seconds coinops dd3 10:57 - 10:40 = 43 seconds CoinOps was 43 seconds for both tests. This implies that the wait isn't due to throughput of the storage device but rather the zip extraction of the cpu.
  14. I am sure it is just experience (my lack of) but there seems to be a certain amount of Voodoo involved with adding a new Hard Disk to a TSOP'd system using HeXEn I have successfully done it but now I am using a SATA 1TB Drive w/adapter and I am on my third try at it (formatting etc.). Still nothing. I am wondering if my Seagate ST1000DM003 is not compatible or I am missing something? Any advice?
