About Me

  1. Need a checkup on building a EEPROM reader from a person with a background on electronics. Can I use two leds in series instead of a 5.1V zener diode rated at 1W for a EEPROM xbox original reader? Can a 3.0V coin battery or 4X1.2V AA batteries @ 4.8V be used as a external powersupply directly? Would 4.8V have too high of mAh or current for the EEPROM chip? I plan to use a serial to RJ45 with a connector to ethernet as a cable. I am using a bread board to create the circuit. I plan to use the materials I already have.
  2. I have done several sodtmods using the Rocky5 Method and this one baffles me. Everything installed perfect but backing up the EEPROM could not advance to the next screen. The key was nulled out, ETC. I reran the back up program same thing stuck on the EEPROM back up screen. The board is 1.0 Rev k. Any clues on how to fix this? THX
  3. Hi, I'm struggling to read the eeprom of a Crystal 1.6 xbox. Was sold as faulty, hard drive clicking, decided was worth the gamle so bought it as I wanted to replace the hard drive anyway. I have some Alladin XTs coming in the post to longterm this will be hard modded, however I'd really like to find out/change the HDD key from the eeprom and start building a new drive for it. I'm using https://github.com/Ryzee119/ArduinoProm in ordre to read the eeprom.bin file. I've read multiple people talking about how on the 1.6 there is some sort of protection which makes it harder to perform a read operation, but can someone explain exactly that this is and how to bypass it? I'm able to scan the I2C bus using my cable + Arduoino Nano, so I'm pretty confident the issue is the I2C protection for the eeprom.
  4. As I mentioned in another thread here I recently bought a 'for parts' Xbox which is giving error 16 but the seller also included another retail HDD, almost certainly not softmodded, which is giving error 6. Pretty sure it did not come from the same Xbox so obviously locked with an unknown eeprom on another Xbox which again, obviously, I do not have. Not likely being softmodded means no master password use possible either. I've looked into methods of unlocking it and either here or on another forum somebody mentioned there are Windows programs that can do this. I'm not bothered about the content just interested in finding out if it can be unlocked preferably, via a USB connection. Any recommendations/suggestions welcome.
  5. I accidentally wiped my EEPROM with an Arduino when trying to read it, and have no backup. Now even with Config Magic's valid blank EEPROM, there's no video out. Only a green blink code (34? It's 3 fast and 4 slow blinks) Now I'm wondering if there's any way to fix it. This rarely happens, so there's not much info on the net about it. I'm thinking even if I got a modchip such as openXenium, the motherboard might be useless. Should I give up on this yet and just get another box, or get the modchip (already prepped the v1.6 board with headers and LPC rebuild)? Can the modchip make it boot with bad EEPROM data? Eventually, I got the Arduino code reliably reading and writing data, but even with the 'valid blank' EEPROM data, that hasn't helped so far.
  6. Recently had a hard drive fail on me but i did null the hdd key before it failed. Just purchased a new sata drive but im having 0 luck figuring out how to obtain a nulled eeprom.bin or make one myself. If anyone could help would be greatly appreciated
  7. Hi, Love this forum and got a lot of great info from here. Recently I dusted of my good old softmod and gave this all a go again after many years. I was able to tsop the xbox and install a larger harddisk. My friends picked up on the idea of having a xbox with emustation and asked me to build one for them as well. So I ended up buying and working on 6 xboxes and harddrives that all went trough their own struggle to get the job done but hey, I made it. Thing is though, at some point I used chimp to format a 500gb WD and it locked it by the end of the session in one of the xboxes. this drive ended up not being used and now I want to use it again but I do not know what xbox it's from. Being all wel prepped I did read all the eeproms from al the xboxes trough simple serial eeprom reader. Extracted them straight of the board with no issues but the sidenote is I never did with this 500gb WD hdd installed. And this is where my confusion is, because what I understand is the eeprom is xbox specific. And the harddrive password is generated trough the hdd serial number and model based on the eeprom. (Please correct me if I'm wrong). So all the eeproms I have when I read them in live info beta 3 show me other harddrives. So I connected the harddrive to my ide port refreshed the disk managment, it pops up under disk# and I try to select it in live info without any luck. I tried running chimp in order to unlock the hdd in the slave disk options with all the available eeproms but had no luck. Basically, and I'm sorry this is a long read, I'm trying to find a way to backwards engineer my hdd locking code with the 6 eeproms I have available that all state a different make/brand/sn hdd. Thank you in advance Pascal

    Eeprom

I am more into TSOP so I need to ask a question. I had a guy give me an xbox several years ago at a yard sale. He had softmodded it but then burned the pads off doing a TSOP. (Not laughing I've done it too). He used SID don't know what version. Anyway I brought it home and backed up the eeprom. I still have the backup.. But then I upgraded the mod using Rocky5 extras disk. Then nulled the harddrive key. Now my question is "Do I need to backup the EEPROM again after I done the upgrade. Not sure how I would make a new hard drive from scratch for a softmod since I've never done it.. Thanks
  10. Sooooo i have a MAJOR issue. I had softmodded my Xbox and accidentally unlocked the HDD now it's somewhat useless.. (User: ecstone ) provided me with some info about building a EEPROM reader, but finding each individual parts to build it is gonna take some time and there is none on sale online... I was wondering if I can just purchase a modchip and just install Hexen to a brand new HDD (500Gb) or will i still have my Error 5 code to deal with????
  11. I dont know if this has been put up on here before, but i came across this during my quest to fix a v1.2 xbox that wont boot. I have at some point managed to bork the hard drive during this quest Any how this webpage shows how to read an eeprom from an xbox using a Pi and a pin header normally used for mounting modchips in an xbox.. I have installed the program on my pi and got everything ready, just waiting for my header wires to arrive and then im goin to give it a go. My thinking is if i can read the xeeprom i can then use xboxhdm2.3usb to rebuild the hard drive and install a softmod. Then hopefully this bastard will boot again Heres the link .... http://icode4.coffee/?p=22
  12. Have been watching the null eeprom video on YouTube, specially interested for the 1.6 xbox, little confused on the upgrade of a larger hard drive, after the null eeprom you can't just drop in a blank larger hard drive or can you like you can with Tsop system.
  13. A fellow Xbox fan requested that I put an X3 modchip in his Dev Box so he can use all 128M of RAM, although we had a conversation about the limited library. He wants the modchip instead of a simple TSOP. I have the mainboard and drive working. It boots to the MS clock/calendar initially. After setting the time I am able to see 3 standard menu options: Memory, Music and Settings. Clearly it has not been updated to include Live. The only game save is Revolt (Microsoft ATG). It will not play a game but gives this message: "You need to connect the DVD Playback Kit receiver to a controller port to watch movies. Remove the disc to continue." I have a brand new DVD Playback Kit so I put it in. No luck. Tried a movie DVD. Still the same message. I pulled the EEPROM using PonyProg. It looks okay although it will not load into LiveInfo. ConfigMagic also rejects it. I have looked through the raw edit of the EEPROM but am not sure what to look for. This one seems like it is above my pay grade! I am hoping for another perspective on it. I must be missing something here but don't know what it is. Any help? Thanks.
