As its softmodded you have the issue of needing to lock the drive, to install the 2tb you will need to link up power to both drives, power up the xbox then swap the dvd data cable (ide cable) to the 2tb drive (set as slave) you can then clone to slave and lock slave using chimp or as dave will say, hardmod it edit: you would also need to swap out the ide data cable for 80 pin if you are using a sata adapter

well firstly i would physically inspect the clock capacitor, on a 1.6 its by the ide connector on the board, its not one of the leaky type but it may be bulging, the 1.6 needs a clock capacitor in place to boot so if you need to replace order a like for like rated cap and then swap them out. even if you do replace it then the xbox will need to be plugged in for it to keep date/time for more than a day or so anyway so not really worth it unless you are leaving it set up and it really bothers you!

nice, ive just recently acquired an xbox with the X3CP front on, quite rare and valuable now so well done for keeping it safe for 15 years! the clock caps are usually ok on the 1.6's but if it has gone bad you can replace, it does mean stripping the xbox down to the board though to delsolder the old capacitor though

i cant see how the 2 things are related (maybe recheck all the power and data cables to both drives are correctly inserted), i would say its more of a coincidence that the dvd drive is playing up straight after the hard drive swap, I would try stripping the dvd drive, cleaning and greasing the parts. i had a similar problem where the dvd drive kept ejecting but i cant remember the model of dvd drive, i did sort it by internally cleaning the drive and spraying a tiny amount of wd40 in a pogo pin which was activated by the drives sliding mechanism when the drive opened / closed

SHE LIVES!!!! It turns out the LCD wasnt broke, the previous owner has spilled a drink or something, i just didnt notice when I first tried it as the lcd worked (plus it didnt help i had accidentally turned the wheel down on the chip when i was removing it from the rusty cage!), Ive learned a lot about these little lcds in the last couple of days, i stripped the lcd down, alcohol cleaned the board/lcd contacts/rubbers/backlight and put it all back together and the display is bright and clear. the whole console has been stripped and cleaned, i changed the cage and top from a nice condition xbox, i stuck with the 1.0 board as the gpu fan is fine and im just glad that shes up and running now. I paid £65 including shipping from a guy on ebay who said it was his grandsons and he didnt know anything about it, im beginning to doubt his story but not to worry the spillage is all sorted and everything is running great, also xbmc4gamers works a treat with the lcd One thing, the only bank selection combo which works is if i depress 1 AND 2, 1 on its own brings up a basic blue 'Xecuter' screen with options to lock / unlock the hard drive, 2 on its own does the same, 3 and 4 on their own don't work at all, but im leaving well alone, im not going to start messing with BIOS flashing

im based in UK, no local sellers at the moment, however ive seen someone on reddit who swapped the lcd part onto the x3lcd board and only had to rewire the backlight, apparently the hd44780 is suitable and only pennies so will give it a shot i guess

bad news for me i got it all working with xbmc4gamers, enabled the lcd and everything was running great.... so i started to strip it down to change the rusty cage, and when trying to remove the front i have somehow managed to bugger the lcd up, i was really careful and even prized it off from the opposite side to the lcd, now theres a bleed of some sort and the display is hardly readable, it was perfect before i messed with it, i am absolutely gutted its just lying here in bits now and i cant even be arsed to put it back together, RIP my sweet X3CP xbox...

Hi, managed to get my hands on an X3 / X3CP xbox console, just playing around with it at the moment but needing a bit of advice for my next steps. ive put a 160gb ide in and used AID to format and install a dash (unleashx for now), ive also used the white button on boot to bring up the x3 config live and have a little mess with the settings. (a) firstly its installed on a 1.0 board with fan on GPU, im not a big fan of that board so was thinking of uninstalling and re-installing on a 1.4, worth the hassle? (b) the faraday cage is rusty so need to take it all apart anyway however the chip is sticky-padded onto the cage, best way to remove? possibly sharp knife down the back of it? also the front control panel will need removing to get to the cage, do they clip on / off as easy as the original? ive noticed some original faceplates are more brittle than others, the last thing i want to do is crack it trying to remove it! (c) the lcd display, all ive managed to get out of it so far is 2 lines of text, ive seen people running temperature displays etc, how is this done?, does this depend on the dash / xml files associated with the lcd? (d) I have a 500gb xbox running a nice build of xbmc4gamers but console is soft modded so what dashboard files need to change for the dash to boot on a hard modded console, ie the EVOXDASH.XBE etc

ive never had much luck with evo-x dash and ftp'ing. unleashx or xbmc have served me much better, and using dhcp as opposed to static ip

not sure on the value (a lot more than you paid tho) but congrats on the very nice find, i believe the xecuter 3 front panel was an optional addon to the xecuter 3 modchip, but i dont know about the replacement dvd bezel so it maybe a replacment xcm case with the xecuter 3 front panel?

as the xbox is softmodded, the new drive would need locking and since you dont have access to the console that might prove difficult, you may be able to hotswap the drive to your pc once the xbox has unlocked it, then use fatxplorer to gain access to the drive and put it right? but as im sure others (dave) will say easier to just mod it lol edit - just seen you have the eeprom file, should be able to rebuild a new drive then

i did try heating one once and it warped the top case so be careful there, I had some success with a plastic viewing card from a cable box (credit card size plastic) it was tough enough to get under the edge without damage to the top case

you can make the chip always on with a small BT bridge and also remove the long wire that goes from bt to a resistor near the front of the board, as shown here

check for trace corrosion near the edge of the main board, this can make the on off /eject buttons act very strange
