  1. Remove the chip and chean all the points on the chip and board that are making contact. over the years those points to the main board will have developed bad connections. Your best to post some pics as well as other problems could have occurred to the Xbox's. Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
  2. Hi Keith01 With my X3 chip a quick tap of the power button to turn on with the chip enabled and long press of the power button is chip disabled. To get in to the config screen try both power and eject or after tapping the power button hold the white button on the controller while is booting and the X or B buttons work as well. Try sw 1,2 on and 3,4,5 off that's the 1st 1024kb(1meg) bank. The shutting down could be trace damage on the underside of the main board along the front and going by the fact that the power button is not functioning and it powers up by it's self that's where I would look 1st. Also because the age of the Xbox a lot of the filter Cap's are starting to fail as well and that can cause strange booting problems and poor video output. If you work the internet on the google machine for Xbox trace rot repair there is heaps of hits on repairing that problem. Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
  3. That's good news that you got the hard drive working and you would be surprised what can be fixed and I have seen some electronic boards in my 45+ years as repair tech that I should not have fixed but it was a challenge to fix them. Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
  4. You would be best to post a pic of the damage 1st then I or other's can advise you the best way to go about fixing it. Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
  5. Try them all. I use a X2-5032 and the EvoxM8plus but you can try the IND BIOS as well. Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
  6. I didn't have any problem over the 4 years I used it The system worked well for me updating new windoZe installs and transferring games to Xboxs 20+gig at a time. Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
  7. I read that you now have it working? Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
  8. Can you give some more info Version of Xbox ,Softmodded,Chipped/TSOP Flash,Bios you using, version of Unleash your using? I tested Unleash ona version 1.4 with X2-5035 bios and it resets to the main dash every time with Left,Right trigger and Back,Black. Also where is Unleash install to? Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
  9. My brother had this xbox since day one. It would boot up to the blue screen when he powered the xbox on(Years ago) after one of his boys said they could mod it. The way I read that is it was soft modded so the hard drive key may be the one I posted before. Can you post a pic of the main board both sides? Retrieving the game saves is not going to be an easy thing for the inexperienced. One way would be buy a 2nd Xbox the same version (1.6) as the broken one and read the eeprom from the old one then write the file back to the new one. You could also swap the EEprom chip from the old to new. When you have done that the old hard drive will work in the new Xbox. Or as mentioned before read the eeprom from the old Xbox and then use a PC with a program like Xboxhdm to gain access to the game save. Any way you go you need the hard drive key from the EEprom. Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
  10. The X3 3294 is a OS you now need to put a Bios in one of the banks I have my X3 set to "autostart off" that's under customize X3 Bios and to get to the main config screen you can hold either White or X or B button while it's booting or the power and eject at the sametime. Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
  11. I have used a ethernet power line adaptors at the rental I was in and found them to work well 1 end goes to the router plugged in to the power point and the other unit is next to the Xbox and plugged in to the power point and a cat5 cable to your Xbox so no network cable running over the floor. Like this sort of thing Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
  12. or delete the x3logo.bmp from the hard drive and it should return to the stock logo. Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
  13. I was informed that the Xbox menu would go to it's "Blue Screen" before it stopped powering on. The way I read this is it was modded and stopped working and as there has been no mention of a modchip I am thinking it was soft modded. I tell people with PC's to make backup's maybe Xbox users should be doing the same backup the game saves to a memory card or USB. It's also why I push for Modchips/TSOP flashing then you can run with the drive unlocked, If the xbox dies swap the drive to a new Xbox that's been modded and away you go ,It saves having to stuff around reading the eeprom and unlocking/locking hard drives. Plus it the drive stops working just put a new drive in and run your install disk to setup the new HDD Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like having a wank, It gets the job done, but it's nothing like the real thing.
  14. Is there any lights on the front panel flashing? If that's the screen when it was booting or should boot to I would say it was soft modded. One way would be read the eeprom on the dead version 1.6 and write that to a working version 1.6 the swap the drive and then you will have a working Xbox with you old info/saves, But it may be the eeprom thats at fault then you will have 2 dead Xbox's. The hard drive will be locked but the unlock key maybe "XBOXSCENE " or 'TEAMASSEMBLY" By using a program like XBOXhdm you may be able to unlock the drive and copy the UDATA folder Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. 15. Some USB devices will show up in the Device manager as a comport the you can slow it down there . Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.

  17. Do you know what BIOS is in the mod-chip? Can you post some pic's of the main board and the power supply and top and bottom? Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
  18. I assume that it was working fine before the hard drive change. What is the new hard drive (make and model) and what brand of IDE to ATA adaptor How did you setup the new hard drive Cloned,XboxHDM,install from a disk? It is almost sounding like a power problem may be post a pic of the inside's Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
  19. It's not going to be a simple thing to get the game saves as the Hard drive is locked to the main board You are going to need to read the eeprom from the non working xbox to get the HDD key for starters. What have you tried to get the Xbox working ? Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
  20. Maybe try slowing the com port speed down a heap. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like having a wank, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  21. The light's round the eject button will still come on even with a blank, dead,or no hard drive so something else has failed you will have to wait for you Torx bit's to investigate some more Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod. .
  22. That a comment I saw on Facebook as well a while ago. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like having a wank, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  23. By trying to upgrade the hard drive would not cause it to not power on. What version is it and have you had a look inside? and maybe some pick's of the boards.4 Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
  24. In my view the USB on the OG Xbox is really only good for a memory card. XBMC can use a usb keyboard and mouse but it's not worth the effort . Cheers SS Dave Those that can Hard-Mod. Those that can't Soft-Mod.
