I to have a Samsung drive that seems to have killed it's laser. The normal pot adjustment can't be done as it shows 0 ohms resistance. Almost better off pot modding a Thompson drive and binning the Samsung.

I had this same issue over the weekend. I downloaded a iso of a disc I had lost in the house move. So after eventually finding the disc I was able to compare the files and sizes of the files, it was very obvious what was missing. oddly I was able to download the whole of coin ops 8 massive without so much as a missed file. Goes to to show some sites are better than others.

I've seen that video, hot glue seems to be the thing at the moment, it's being used to correctly secure things, as intended and seemingly now as a replacement for heat shrink or electrical tape on so many builds I see on the web. Its so bodgy, and in the case of that lead not even needed. I have a board that scan doubles out put on my Amiga to allow it to work on standard VGA. There are several overpriced ones on sale at various places, but mine cost me about £20 to make, and does the job easily. I was thinking of HDMI as I have a screen that I use for several things and have a HDMI auto switch for it as I have more things than it has sockets I will take a look at the OSSC.

Saw this type of mod on a YouTube page a while back but the guy made it far to complex. Pay day is here and I can't find my stash of OGXbox video cables. Time to eVilbay me some spare parts.. Im wondering if I can then plug the cable into my HDMI adaptor to get HDMI for my big screen.

Just add to those users who may have one. The Logitech wireless controllers work fine with the last build of chimp. Oddly it seems to be faster with UnleashX running eaither full OS replacement or run as an app. no idea why.

The great thing about the scene is despite most mainstream sites moving on its still active. The great thing about OGXbox is everyone is fully on board with it. Another awesome thing about the OG xbox is they are affordable as an eBay or Craigs List, you can be a bit experimental with out risking your wallet. Gotta love old skool modding.

I have one of those chips, I'm sure the switch board is not much more than switches and LEDs, so could be made, using pcb prototype board etc. I'll see if over the weekend I can pull mine out and take a look. I post some pictures, so it can be reverse engineered.

I would like to try this but as stated it looks like it won't run under Windowze 10, so I guess I'll be using Hyper V. And installing XP to run it from there.

So I just scored a xenium chip, which came free with a broken Xbox. the seller just said it was broken, didn't even know the chip was in it. Its a 1.1/1.2 and the board looks like new. Turns out the old owner has never flashed the chip and was running the stock dash, but had some how managed to switch the chip switch so it was half on half off, so it wouldn't boot. well I fixed that and slapped a new drive in to take advantage of the set up tools. so now I have two dilemmas. 1. what's the best bios to drop on this chip, it's currently in the 1.1/1.2 board. 2. Should I just take it out and put it in one of my 1.6's which are near useless without being chipped. Because it's a waste in a board that can be so easily Tsop'd That said it has one of the teamxodus solder less LPC pads. Can you remove them ?. any ideas or feedback from you guys ?

Yeah I'd did a few years ago and gave up as I couldn't get it to format. Admittedly this could have been just me not doing it right.

I have never had any luck with the cheapo adaptors, I think I have maybe 8, although they work fine in my pc's so they just hate Xboxes. Gonna have to buy the Startec ones as my supply of ide drives is drying up. Thanks for the video

Just tried a different approach to this just to see what would happen. used one of those foam backed sanding blocks that you can get for a couple of quid in pound land etc. I bought one with a fine side and a medium side. Took less than 5 mins to remove the paint. The plastic on every Jewel I've ever polished has not been completely flat, so there's always a bit that takes longer to go as its in a dip, sanding levels it out so should be a good thing. Sanding like this should be fine if you need to paint it, as the paint will fill in the micro scratches. A quick polish with toothpaste or plastic polish brigs them up like glass, if that's what you want.

Fairly sure there was another app back in the day that we used to doctor Halo to remove the Live update and put custom files in it. I can remember going to a LAN party where we all played the modded maps, almost everyone had discs

Did a case swap on one of my 1.0 yesterday, and after reassembly the connector failed. Signified by a nice crackling sound and a lack of turning on. half the problem is a lack of mechanical support the rest is down to shite lead free solder. Good old leaded solder from my stash has sorted it out. Shame the recall offers not still on as I'd like a couple more of those adaptors, they are useful.

I've been using the standard, often supplied with new PC boards 80 connectors that a 24" long, since before SATA was a thing. Plugged in backwards they fit nicely and only require a bit of cable management to get back in the case. There is a slight speed increase even on IDE drives using one.

Just joined up after finding the site while googling some Xbox related stuff. Been into modding for longer than the Xbox has been a thing. Had a bit of a break from it all and recently decided my stock pile of OG Xboxes needed some love. My background is electromechanical engineering , but now work in IT so I guess modding is in the blood. I always look at electronics and think I wonder what it looks like inside. Glad to be here and to have found an active site that's not got posts that are unanswered for ten years. Hopefully I can learn and teach in equal measures.

I have one of those official Xbox VGA converters, the quality is not great on big screens, so one of these Iooks interesting.

Label remover is my go to choice to get the Jewels off spray it on till it pools in the jewels recess leave for a bit, it makes the sticky useless and you can then ping out the Jewel with zero fuss. Another dosing usually makes very short work of any black sticky that resisted on the Jewel or recess. You can buy label remover from the likes of Maplin, RS, CPC/Farnells and Radio Shak etc for a few pounds,

Great informative video. on the subject of painting the controller numbers, Gundam markers may be to your liking, think felt tip pen but with model paint,they come in different nib sizes and more colours than you'll likely need. Been using them for years.

Certainly shows that SSD has the edge with certain data transfer intensive activities. Even going through an SATA to ide converter which strips some potential speed off, it still rocks. An SSD is a great choice for sim xboxs due to size heat and noise, still a bit pricey but they are comming down.

There are quite a few resistor calculators on the internet so, you can work out what resistor you need to add to the LEDs you buy. They can have different voltage tolerances depending on output and size etc. In some cases just adding all four of the ports in series can drop the volts enough not to need resistors.
