About Me

  1. Hello all! A few months back a got my first OG Xbox, but the DVD drive was broken. I ended up buying a second Xbox for parts with a working drive and swapped them out (I ended up getting lucky, it was a Samsung drive). So a couple days ago I pulled out my spare Xbox and found the only problem with it was the power button not turning the console on/off. The console would power on when plugged in, which looking into this online told me its a common problem. So I ended borrowing the working drive and softmodding it. Everything was going perfectly until I was playing some snes9x and the console was smoking! Turns out the clock capicitor was leaking on the motherboard and melting. I knew about the clock capicitor issues, but stupid me thought I'd just do it later. So I cleaned up the mess and removed the capicitor, but it left some irreversible damage. Now the console will boot up and work fine for 5 minutes before suddenly turning off. I inspected the motherboard and noticed it had some corrosion on the "A Line" (Source: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.ogxbox.com/forums/index.php%3F/topic/29-how-to-fix-trace-corrosion/&ved=2ahUKEwjl4szT1bn7AhXbjokEHQddBoEQFnoECA4QAQ&usg=AOvVaw1PMDAuq47ME_GX_0VJ58Ll). I'm not sure if the clock capicitor melt down has something to do with this new issue (most likely do does) or if the corrosion has gotten worse from the whole incident. I'm posting pictures below. I think the best method moving forward would be to try and solder in a wire workaround (From source above). I need some advice, whats the best move moving forward? I want to save this Xbox if I can.

  5. Hi everyone from Italy. I just purchased a component cable to improve the resolution of my xbox, modded with Evolution-X V+3935. I bought the cable after watching some youtube tutorials and reading some posts online where they claimed that by connecting the Xbox through the component cable and selecting NTSC in the game region settings of the Evo-X dashboard, the possibility to select different resolution would automatically appear in the Microsoft Dashboard also on PAL Xboxes. I have done all that but still no option to select different resolutions in the video settings of the Microsoft dashboard. I am stuck with the standard resolution. What am I doing wrong ? Am I missing something ? I read somewhere that on PAL Xboxes the hi resolution settings have been removed from the dashboard, and that this would require softmodding to reinstall them. Not sure if this is required also with an hard modded console, or if I am facing some other problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated !!
  6. Why is it the ram and cpu upgrades on the original xbox are done. But those that do fail to upgrade the next most vital component in your console pcs. Upgrade you power supplies to a larger one to give the system better response time and a deeper well of wattage to pull from. Put an atx in there that has 2 12 v rails and make sure that board has all the power running to it efficiently a 80 or 90 % percent efficient 400 or 500 or 300 watt power supply will give you so many more options for cooling and give that mainboard all the power it needs to function better than ever. Also put low esr capacitors on the board or aluminum polymer capacitors that run at a lower frequenzy and run cooler for you system to truly modernize it. I see the cpu upgrade the ram upgrade, the firmware upgrade, the cosmetic upgrades, but no power upgrades, no capacitor component upgrades. Why are you people not doing this with your retro game consoles. Seriously why has no xbox with the formentioned upgrades that are common talked about not complimented with a larger power supply. And don't give me that crap about the system only uses so much power blah blah blah. That isn't true. A more efficient power supply and low esr capacitors will do wonders for you system. I did a power supply upgrade for the playstation 2 and i can tell you it works better than ever and i can put a 12v fan in it and still give the main board all the power it could ever need with a 180 watt imac power supply from an apple imac A1224 i have 3 for sale on ebay see them there nicely painted and perform better and have a big boy pc grounded 3 pin 110v-250v ac in plug. Also line filters Emi filters, get them there amazing.
  7. This is happening on a stock console btw, I've read that the Microsoft logo appearing indicates an XBE has been found to launch so it's more likely to be something besides the HDD, there's no error code or change in LED color. I could put a chip in it and see what happens but maybe someone else who's seen this before could share their experience and save me some time.
  8. After a recent discussion on the Xbox-Scene Discord regarding boot times i thought id start a topic here on the subject My X3 2tb Xbox was taking almost a full minute to get from power on to being able to control the cursor in the dashboard. Heres my specs, 1.0 xbox with X3 chip Latest X3 bios is the usual bios used on this machine so thats what was used for testing. (Did some tests with Cerbios 2.0.2 with UDMA5 enabled, boot time results were exactly the same. BUT speed benefits were seen when loading games) 2Tb Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm hdd, Full USA set plus PAL Exclusives and playable Jap exclusives. Startech IDE2SATA Adapter Generic 80wire IDE cable from Amazon. (the common yellow one) I managed to get my boot time down to about 26 secs by doing the following. Switched of the Flubber anim completely using X3 config live Updating XBMC4Gamers to the latest AND ensuring that "Skip Scanning" was enabled Im happy with 26 secs as I think the only other way i could make it quicker is to use remove some content from my hdd or use a smaller one Who out there has the quickest booting xbox??????
  9. So I have all my games working and have tried XBMC-Emustation & XBMC4Gamers, Ive updated the dash to the newest version (tried the stable and non stable version). Ive downloaded and updated the Xbox Artwork Installer but every time i run it, it starts and adds the artwork but it stops in the middle of the of the D's in my library. The percentage bar hits 26% and then it quits and just sits on the artwork installer menu. I can run it again but the same thing just keeps happening. Is there a way to just manually add the artwork using fatxplorer, this is the last step. I just need the artwork so i can run Xbmc4Gamers as my dash and have it look amazing!
  10. Hi, I have a 1.1 xbox with cerbios 2.0.3R, a seagate barracuda 2tb hdd, startech adapter and 80 wire cable from amazon. The problem is that the optical drive works only if cold booted with a disk in. After that I can swap disks without problems and everything is working. If I cold boot without a disk in, and I insert it after a dash has booted after checking the disk the dvd status become Busy (XBMC) or unknown (unleashX). Same for games or audiocd. The only quirk is that if I coldboot with an audiocd and swap for a game, the xbox still see the disk as an audiocd. I also tried m8+ and it's the same. Interesting is that if I set cerbios without the nodvd patch it can't find the dvd drive and frag but if I cold boot with a disk in, it finds the drive and boot as normal. Where could be the problem? Thanks
  11. When using/playing the MS dashboard, Halo CE, or JSRF, there's intermittent signal loss, or at least the behaviour of the TV is if the signal is lost (warning pops up). The audio will continue to work though (if plugged in through the reciever). I've got a video of this happening: Youtube video of signal loss. Setups I've tried: Xbox -> Chimeric -> Reciever -> TV (issue happens) Xbox -> Cheap component cable + cheap ADC with HDMI output -> Reciever -> TV (issue happens) Xbox -> Chimeric -> directly to TV (issue happens) Xbox -> Cheap component cable + cheap ADC with HDMI output -> directly to TV (issue happens) Xbox -> Chimeric -> Capture card -> Laptop (no issue) Xbox -> Chimeric -> Cheap projector (no issue) Xbox -> Chimeric -> Capture card (Elgato HD60 S) -> Laptop (no issue) & passthrough to TV (issue happens) Xbox -> Chimeric -> Capture card (Elgato HD60 S) -> Laptop (no issue) & passthrough to reciever and then TV (issue happens) Xbox -> Composite -> Cheap projector (no issue) Xbox details: PAL (Au) Rev 1.0 Delta DPSN-96AP-1 Aladdin XT with IND Unleash X Fully recapped PSU (didn't fix the issue) Replaced the large motherboard capacitors and a couple of the small ones next to the video DAC (didn't fix the issue) Unused Thompson DVD drive (un/plugged doesn't matter) WD 1TB Blue connected through an IDE-SATA (ofc) and 80 wire IDE cable. Molex -> SATA power is on the SATA-IDE card. Still had the same issue with the original WD HDD EEPROM set to NTSC Video output with 480p, and 720p enabled (480i seems to be issue free when using the Chimeric adaptor) Audio output with surround, DD, and DTS enabled No visible signs of trace rot, no signs of capcitors leaking, all removed capacitors looked to be in good condition and tested well. TV is a Sony KD-65X9000F (Au version of X90F) TV settings I've tried (in case auto detection is freaking out or something): Picture mode - Game Auto picture mode - Off Black adjust - Off Advanced contrast enhancer - Off Auto widescreen - Off Auto over/underscan - Off HDR - Off HDMI video range - Tried limited and full Colour space - Tried auto and sRGB "Motionflow" (not exactly, but effectively motion interpolation) - Off "Reality creation" (upscaling) - Off Smooth gradation - Off "Live colour" (Colour processing incl. fake HDR) - Off I've heard Deep Colour (introduced in HDMI 1.3) has caused issues in the past, but I can't find an option to turn it off anywhere, not even in the developer options. Reciever is Onkyo TX-SR494. Have tried multiple known good HDMI cables that can definitely carry 2.0 bandwidth. The Component -> HDMI DAC has an external power supply. This is it: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07JYHQRDJ I'm somewhat convinced that either the signal from the Xbox is borked, don't know if it's the PSU drooping, there's electrical noise, some thermal protection very briefly kicks in, or the motherboard capacitors I haven't replaced yet. I don't have an oscilloscope nor a way to monitor the HDMI signal to be able to further troubleshoot what exactly is going wrong. I'm after any more potential troubleshooting ideas, or knowledge.
  12. Hi. I just got a second xbox classic, but with the problem that it's missing the hard drive. It's hard-moded with xc-changer chip. I have some knowlage, but still need some help. My plan is to first backup the eeprom using rpi or arduino (i have both). After that I have to find a compatible hdd (or maybe ssd). And at the end I have to use the eeprom backup to change the hdd key using a pc (forgot the name of the program). Correct me if i'm wrong. I appreciate your help.
  13. Hey everyone! I managed to get Alpine Linux working on the xbox with a 5.15 kernel! It's command line only right now so no sound or desktop environment. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DVtaFB22BeUntv46iKk8FT0YSwMncD2a/view?usp=sharing If anyone wants to try it. user=user password=xbox be careful with the f_drive it's using the fatx fuse from https://github.com/mborgerson/fatx so f drive needs to be f takes all format. You can edit /etc/local.d/xbox-bootup.start and set the manual offset and size if you have a different f drive set up. there's a backup rootfs.tar.gz.backup that will get created incase something goes wrong that is rotated out from the last rootfs each shutdown/reboot if needed If anyone wants you should actually be able to get a full desktop working. There's a guide here for wayland/weston: https://flighttestdude.wordpress.com/alpine-linux-stuff/ should work fine with the simpledrm driver I have set up. I'll probably try and set up something way lighter and experiment around with different desktops.
  14. Modded one of my spare keyboards to be used exclusively for the XBOX. Would like to document because any search results for XBOX keyboard support would lead to slim and unrelated results. Any practical uses for it aside from typing faster in XBMC4XBOX? Tried homebrew like Half-Life but even that didn't any drivers which I think would have been added since the Playstation 2 port did have full support for USB keyboards. I heard Fantasy Star Online for XBOX supported USB keyboards through an adapter and the Insignia closed beta is conveniently close so I will get to see if my keyboard would work or if the Fantasy Star USB adapter is proprietary. I do know about XDSL and Xebain and it does have plug and play USB drivers but my XBOX is not 128mb or CPU modded so there wouldn't be much to do that I could think off the top of my head. Used a replacement XBOX controller cable I ordered from Aliexpress so no worries about wasting a hard to replace XBOX controller cable. Was my best option actually since the Aliexpress cables where unshielded and not grounded. Also didn't have the AV light gun wire so that would cut many opportunities for controller modding if I used it for any of my broken controllers. 15. I don't know if unleachx giving me wrong temp numbers when i turn on the Xbox and stay in the dashboard it gives 61C/61C in the cpu
  16. A few of us at Steel Battalion Online OG Xbox community have put something together just in time for Insignia's beta launch. A relatively simple & cheap method to use modern gaming headsets with the OG Xbox Voice Chat Comm's. No hard mods necessary just a couple adapters from Amazon and you will be Golden. We've tested and with your modern headset you will get game audio, voice chat and microphone compatability all in the one headset like it should be. Full Guide can be found here with links to required hardware. https://www.reddit.com/r/steelbattaliononline/comments/yr9d7u/a_few_of_us_steel_battalion_players_have_figured/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
  17. Hey there gang. I have an xbox 1.6 that is completely shot. I have done everything possible to get it to power on but no luck. I wanted to know if there was a way of getting the game saves off the HDD. The Xbox was not modded.

  19. Hello everyone, last night I installed the XEnium mod chip onto my 1.0 Japanese "if that makes any difference" xbox and I’m having a problem with my controller no longer working. XEnium boots up perfectly normal but I can not change any of the bios due to the controller not working. One of my attempts at trying to solve this issue saw a controller work momentarily but then stop. I've tried 3 different controllers "1 OEM and 2 knock offs" with no luck and I've tried every port. When the chip is unplugged the controllers work like normal but when the chip is plugged back in the controllers no longer work. I've only seen one other person on here with this problem and unplugging and plugging back in the chip seemed to work for them but it has not worked for me. I even tried reflowing all of my solder points to make sure my connections were okay and still nothing. My board is fine and hasn't had any capacitors leak on it so that's already ruled out. I'm running out of things to troubleshoot so I’m resorting to this forum. If anyone potentially knows any fixes for this and would like to help that would be greatly appreciated. Until then I'm going to keep troubleshooting to see what I can do. Thanks everyone.
  20. I have a softmodded xbox running xbmc emustation, my main question is does anyone know why the light would sometimes be half red / half orange? Other times it looks fine and does the normal orange color for softmodding. Even though it's half red / half orange it still seems to run and operate just fine. Anyone else have this?
  21. Hello all! I've been tinkering around with my X3 OG Xbox to get it ready for Insignia, and the main issue I'm having is that every time I try to access the original MS Dashboard - I can hear the astronaut/space background sound, so I know it's *there*, but it's a black screen. I believe this has SOMETHING to do with the resolution my xbox is running in: I am using an XOSVP/component cable and the xbox is set to 480p/720p+1080i disabled. IIRC the MS Dashboard is... 480i? Could that be why I only get a black screen when trying to access the Xbox Live account settings? I managed to get it to appear after messing around with a bunch of settings and hauling a scart TV out and connecting it via a scart connector, but as this is a huge hassle, is there some way to access this dashboard without screwing up all my resolution settings? I see a "Modded Microsoft Dashboard 5960" available for download via XBMC4GAMERS but I'm afraid to download that in case it screws up xbmc4gamers. Anyone able to help please?
  22. Hello Friends I have been looking for this for a while. I know the emulators have lists but a list that has: Works extracted on HDD Only runs on ISO only due to file path length and some other reason... Doesn't work, Disc only Thanks in advance
  23. Hi everyone I'm new here to this forum. I'm going to make this short and sweet. I was given an original Xbox by an older friend of mines. It was his sons, he knows nothing about it. I start it up and I get this screen. ( smartxx ) screen, the picture below. when I click on the ( x2 evox 2005 ) it takes me to the photo with the error code 6. I removed the mod chip and then started the Xbox again. the screen went black with some green lettering and a code error 6 on the top left of the screen. is there anyway I can completely remove this chip and have it back to factory settings. or do I need to keep this mod chip in the Xbox? is there something I can do to make this thing work? there's no games anywhere in this chip. idk what to do. if you need more pictures of the menu please let me know so i can post them, thank you for your help
