About Me

  1. Hello! I know there is a beta version of FATXplorer available and it supports the original Xbox. Is there any good tutorials on how to get started? Other than plugging in my OG Xbox hdd into my computer with FATXplorer running that is as far as I got. Nothing showed up for a drive to use so hopefully I'm missing a super simple step to get started.
  2. https://imgur.com/a/OJsz0Uw please click that link so that u can see a video of what i'm talking about. you'll notice that there are vertical static(static as in fuzzy static on a tv not, static as in "unchanging") lines on the screen when there is a dark scene. the video doesn't show it too well but they are even easier to see in person. that is the opening sequence of xmen legends. i have this problem on 2 of my stock xbox v1.0's and on my modded v1.4(i also have the diagonal lines on it). the lines do not appear on my v1.6's. i've tried it on 2 stock and one modded 1.6 and none of the 3 have the problem. i am connected thru the official hd xbox thing(with the component cable outputs). i'm wondering if it is an issue with certain capacitors that cause this? if so, does anyone know which specific ones cause it? the reason i ask is because it would be a pain to fully recap each board of the xbox when they are functioning perfectly in all other areas so i'd rather just replace the specific ones instead of recapping the whole board. btw, none of the cap are bulging or show obvious wear. i know that the 1.4's are very prone to the diagonal lines because of bad caps but i don't which ones are the problem.
  3. i'm having issues with this newest one and don't care for some of the ui changes. how can i revert the dashboard to the previous version? the xbox is hard modded with an open xenuim chip.
  4. some game saves are tied to the individual xbox's hdd key. so wouldn't nulling the key mess up some game saves?
  5. haven't used my xbox's in a while. been recently trying them with insignia though. on one of my hardmodded xbox, i have xbmc4gamers as my homescreen. when i go to the down loader to try and download anything i always get some type of urlloader error. this even happens when i select the updater. please help.
  6. Razor here just checking in, Who's keen for Insignia!
  7. Bought a XBox with SmartXX v2 some days ago and it had a to me unknow rebuild soldered in : Pictures Anyone ( @KaosEngineer ) has any info on that board or can tell my it is so different?
  8. Okay, what is going on these days? Where are all the modchips? We had the OpenXenium being mass produced and sold just a short while ago, but this chip can now be only found on eBay and what not. Stellar is coming, but it's a bit expensive. Why is the crap-ass Aladdin, which has some serious flashing issues and no bios management... OR more than 256k of storage, the ONLY chip that's still being mass produced? Am I missing something?
  9. I have been trying many combintations based on info found here, but still cannot get the dash to see G: Drive. I have a 1.6 with an original X2.6 Install, and a 2tb drive with the Origin Image (Only becuase I wanted to get things setup and back into OG Xbox) I have been using bios' downloaded from the right sources, and uploading them via ethernet with flashbios always on bank 1&2. I have tried the following either modified with EVTool (for 256k) or X2ool for the Xecuter bios (5035 512k) I try to mod the bios for LBA support, but its not happening. I think there maybe an issue with the programs above and compatability/admin rights?? So far I have tried: x2_5035_v16plus_512k modified with X2ool M8plus_16 modified with EVTool (1.0.8) M8_16_LBA48_IGR_C-06 modified with EVTool (1.0.8) The last one I really expected to work......I've not played with any partition tools as I was concerned that I might loose data. Finally, I've not tried any of the installation DVD's as the drives dont seem to be working.....
  10. You all know, that I'm such a tease (That's no secret right? ) so, here are some of the new chips I added to my collection. Images : https://imgur.com/a/DKaO13U
  11. what is the modchip Aladdin version ???
  12. whiel i stated in my introduction post i had a Modded OG from the late 2000's to just about 2 years ago, i kinda kept to a handful of emulators (didnt wind up updating much)and played a few HDD Ready games. used it up till i got a RaspberryPi 3 for a Media Center. I Just recently snagged another OGXbox and upgraded it's HDD, i'm blind pretty much to what's changed in the intervening years. whats the best way to approach Emulation now? has there been any decent Homebrew games? outside Youtube, has any other Media service been restored? (Netflix/Plex) (i've got a nice Huge CRT TV to set this Xbox up with..)
  13. i've seen teh forums referanced a handful of times on Reddit, and seems Quite active, i've grown up w/ the Xbox and got my first Modded OG Xbox in the late 2000s, used it up till just recently (2020) (which i got my mits on an unpatched Switch.), and sadly had to leave my old long time running Modded OGXbox when i moved last year , i got one at a local 2nd hand game store "Red Fox gaming" and finally manged to snag a working (in good condition) 120GB IDE Hard Drive and did a Upgrade. Time to take a peek at whats changed since the late 2000s!
  14. I haven't really been able to find a ton of info on the communicator, I am curious about it though. It would be nice to have a way to hook up the Xbox to a modern gaming headset, through a combination of Toslink and an AUX jack maybe, ideally without having it plugged into the controller you're using. I'm assuming this is an analog/digital converter and that a simple AUX to USB adapter couldn't replace this thing.
  15. As the title suggests, this is a collection of mods for the Xbox version of GTA: Vice City. The aim of this mod was to fix a couple of bugs, to make what I feel are improvements to the game's overall presentation, and to provide a fresh, new visual experience for the same Vice City you know and love, while still maintaining what made the atmopshere and feel of the 1980s American beach city setting so enjoyable. Retaining immersion was also important. If it couldn't have existed in 1986, you won't find it here. Performance was also a key focus. While the Xbox version of Vice City is capable of displaying larger textures just fine, the texture work here was (mostly with very few exceptions) kept at the same resolution with the same compression method as the original textures, because you will run into performance issues, namely regarding pop-in, textures failing to load properly, and frame rate hiccups if you do decide to go with larger textures. In my testing, this wasn't something immediately noticeable in the early stages of the game. It only really becomes an issue when you're driving back and forth between the two islands, particularly late game when you own a lot of properties. This modification performs just as well as the original release from beginning to end. It is recommended that you play this mod in WIDESCREEN with TRAILS OFF. New Roads: Original textures replaced with textures made from real images of Miami roads. This solves the issue of the blurry roads in the original release and generally looks better all around. Sidewalks replaced as well. New particle effects: Particle effects replaced with more realistic representations. GTA III's Liberty City holdover leaves that once scattered the ground have been replaced with palm leaves, much like they appear in the PS2 version. This one small change in particular has a surprisingly large effect on the atmosphere of the world. New Duds: New Miami Vice inspired suits for Tommy and Lance. Most outfits have been changed. From pallette swaps to complete replacements, the new outfits fit the game's world while simultaneously referencing various films, TV shows, and video games along the way. Each outfit functions in cutscenes as well. New timecycle: More colorful days and darker nights. Nights actually feel like night time now. Make the neon of Vice City shine brighter than ever against these blackened night skies, and enjoy beautiful sunsets and sunrises. Fits the beach weather perfectly and looks great with the Xbox version's unique lighting system. New foliage: Fuller and more colorful foliage textures make Vice City come alive. The Xbox version has always had inferior foliage to the PS2 version, this fixes that issue. Bug fixes: PS2 animations, including idle animations missing from the Xbox release, have been restored. Tommy now gives an "up yours" gesture with his arms instead of flipping a nonexistent finger (another GTA III holdover) when standing in front of traffic. A bug preventing the acquisition of the Havana outfit after completing certain missions has been fixed, it is always accessible after having been unlocked now. The brass knuckles have been resized to not look so outlandishly large. Aiming sites for weapons like assault and sniper rifles have been adjusted to display correctly in widescreen mode. This means they display incorrectly in 4:3 mode, however. New animations: A few improved animation replacements for Tommy. He runs with single handed and two handed weapons in a more believable way now. Walking, idles, sprinting, and just about everything else has been kept vanilla for the sake of familiar game feel. Tommy still sprints as fast as he always has - something that's typically changed for the worse with animation mods. Female character models no longer dislocate their hips as they walk. Peds overall have new animation. They all walk a little slower now than before, but their animations look less rubbery. New pedestrians: About 85% of peds replaced with their VCS counterparts. These pedestrians are higher quality than the ones found in the original release of Vice City. Better quality texture work, more colorful outfits, and more diverse models. New surprises: I've thrown in a number of retextured areas and objects throughout the game. From small world objects to interiors, there's a number of new things to see for returning veterans. New weapon: The Ruger has been replaced with an AK-47. New HUD: The radar ring has been replaced with a new, original ring. Icons on the main HUD, map icons, and weapon icons have been replaced with their 10th Anniversary counterparts. The pause screen map has been replaced with the 10th Anniversary map. New text: A few lines in the game's american.gxt file have been modified to reflect some of the changes this modification brings. Mostly in terms of outfit and weapon names. Download INSTALLATION: 1. Extract folders to any directory of your choosing 2. FTP all folders from the archive into your GTA: Vice City root folder on your Xbox, choose to overwrite files in the process. 3. IMPORTANT: Delete GTA_VC.CAP.Final file from your GTA: Vice City root folder if it exists 4. Clear your Xbox's cache and start the game 5. Have fun There shouldn't be any issues with running this mod on existing save files. Feel free to report any bugs you see. What I'd like to change in the future: Improve widescreen mode from the existing pan 'n scan implementation Fix the alpha render state for the target lock and sniper dot
  16. Insignia is looking good, MVG has uploaded the video below reporting on the latest and he's been TESTING on a closed beta over the weekend. Hopefully not to long now before we can all go killing each other online again MVG Video here :)
  17. I don't exactly know what I did. I just tested a PS2 joypad adapter which worked for a little while, then the console just turned off by itself, receiving no power as I tried to repeatedly turn it on to no avail. I opened it, dusted it off and tried to turn it on with both disc drives removed and un-connected (just to watch what was happening inside): the console turned on but for just a moment, the little fan started spinning but for just a second, I repeated that many times until a tiny little "something" nearby the 1st controller port started going on fire and blown. I dusted that off too (it literally melted, turned to dust in my fingers), tried to turn it on and it worked so I reconnected the drives and it works like before but I wonder: what was that and why that happened after I tried to use the PS2 joypad adapter? Now the console works, but I notice from beyond the plastic "grates" of the side there's a red led on the motherboard. Did I remove an obstacle to the correct functioning (a material bug or something) or did I accidentally removed a crucial part of the motherboard (like a chip, a transistor, etc... sorry for my ignorance I just noticed it when it was on fire for a second, something like extremely little smoking up then nothing)? I also checked the temp after a 2 minutes gameplay it went from 70 to 90 then it stayed stable... what should I do to prevent further damage?
  18. Was doing a clear out and find an board under my desk that still boots but I'm missing the original HDD. I tried all the HDD's I got but they all gave error code 6 which I understands the board was unable to unlock the HDD. I've Aladding XT and Open xenium chips, can I install either to get around the HDD and flash the tsop or its never gonna happen without the orignal HDD?
  19. So I received this in the post today, to me it looks like a re-design of the Aladding XT. 1mb chip with X2 512k bios, xblas & IND 256k bios each. I've seen several posts and links here before to other forums about re-programming the IC on Aladding XT but no exact step by step guide. And recently someone else did it on discord and I reaced out to them but they never shared how they did it. I got a faulty Aladding XT which was working fine and had the chip on it flashed with Xblast bios for testing while doing ram upgrades until one day it went bad after an attempt and since then it just frags whenever its installed on any board. I know its not the ST chip as I re-programmed it and tried different ones but it just does the same which could only mean the IC gone bad or curruept on it. I've got several devices that could program the xsv files format like NAND-X, Glitch360 Spi & Matrix NAND programmer. anyone used or has idea how any of these can be used to program the IC on Aladdin XT or read the IC on this new Jafar chip?
  20. I found this and thought it would potentially make a nice jewel backlight. They are paper thin, 10cm x 10cm EL panels. They are cheap and simple. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000511081220.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.3cc67ef9BTKbRB&algo_pvid=70858ccc-5276-4812-92bf-166bf11b0c47&algo_exp_id=70858ccc-5276-4812-92bf-166bf11b0c47-8&pdp_ext_f={"sku_id"%3A"12000019280130651"}&pdp_npi=2%40dis!CAD!!12.2!!!!!%402101d91e16555800182977430ed7b3!12000019280130651!sea There is a little inverter for the panel, but its small enough to fit behind the harddrive. Its powered by the extra molex connector on the startech ide to sata board. They come in 3.3v, 5v, and 12v. I got a few 5v panels, and a few 12v panels, since thats the available power from the molex. I thought maybe 12v would be brighter, but no, its the same. The panels are all the same. Its only the inverter that is different. Some 12v panels I ordered came with a slightly larger inverter that will not fit in behind the harddrive. So, if you order one of these, make sure its the small inverter that is included.
  21. Long time Xbox owner... recently decided to get the Xbox out of storage... It was pretty mint when put away. Got it out and the Samsung drive seems to have stopped reading discs while it was packed away. How that happens I don't understand but .. I'm here as part of the rediscovering OG Xbox journey.
  22. Hey I know you can add main menu options with custom folder paths but when I set it to an app and select it, it opens the folder instead of the app inside it. Is there any way to add a path to a specific file?
  23. i have recently been playing xmen: legends on my hard modded xbox. this is the 1st time i have done this. i have played this game through many times and i have noticed a couple glitches that i have never seen before. this is the first time i have ever played it from the hdd on a hard modded xbox. this is also the 1st time i have ever played it through on a v1.4 xbox. most of the times in the past were on my v1.6 and once on a v1.0. both used the disc. so i'm not certain if it is that i am playing it for the 1st time from the hdd or that i'm playing from a v1.4 xbox for the 1st time. thoughts?
  24. Growing up as a wee gaming lad, my first home console was the ever cheap PS2 Slim with a PAID demo disc from Circuit City (Shoutout to Jampack Volume 13). Even as I amassed my collection of games, I was envious of the competition from Nintendo, since the funny cube had the cool italian guys, & I didn't. but then there was the Xbox, something that seemed so powerful & complex, I avoided it entirely out of fear & confusion (mostly confusion). However, I had multiple cool uncles who played classics like Halo, Doom 3, & Jedi Knight Academy on their individual Xboxes. Every single time I saw them play these titles, I was floored by their visuals, the gameplay on display, & the fact it was all coming out of this hulking THING that I knew was just better than my PS2 in every way, including physically if my PS2 was forced to do a trust fall with Xbox. Fast forward to the present, & for the past 6-7 months, I've been on an absolute spree on collecting Xbox Classics, controllers, accessories, & multiple Xboxes themselves after learning how varied the modding scene for the Green Box actually is. After spending over a decade completely ignoring the brick that I so deeply admired, the goal is to honor it's legacy by cleaning up any Xbox that I find a good deal for, learn what makes them tick, mod them to smithereens, & of course, play. The true first Xbox doesn't deserve to be forgotten.
