About Me

1. i've seen teh forums referanced a handful of times on Reddit, and seems Quite active, i've grown up w/ the Xbox and got my first Modded OG Xbox in the late 2000s, used it up till just recently (2020) (which i got my mits on an unpatched Switch.), and sadly had to leave my old long time running Modded OGXbox when i moved last year , i got one at a local 2nd hand game store "Red Fox gaming" and finally manged to snag a working (in good condition) 120GB IDE Hard Drive and did a Upgrade. Time to take a peek at whats changed since the late 2000s!
2. I haven't really been able to find a ton of info on the communicator, I am curious about it though. It would be nice to have a way to hook up the Xbox to a modern gaming headset, through a combination of Toslink and an AUX jack maybe, ideally without having it plugged into the controller you're using. I'm assuming this is an analog/digital converter and that a simple AUX to USB adapter couldn't replace this thing.
3. Insignia is looking good, MVG has uploaded the video below reporting on the latest and he's been TESTING on a closed beta over the weekend. Hopefully not to long now before we can all go killing each other online again MVG Video here :)
4. So I received this in the post today, to me it looks like a re-design of the Aladding XT. 1mb chip with X2 512k bios, xblas & IND 256k bios each. I've seen several posts and links here before to other forums about re-programming the IC on Aladding XT but no exact step by step guide. And recently someone else did it on discord and I reaced out to them but they never shared how they did it. I got a faulty Aladding XT which was working fine and had the chip on it flashed with Xblast bios for testing while doing ram upgrades until one day it went bad after an attempt and since then it just frags whenever its installed on any board. I know its not the ST chip as I re-programmed it and tried different ones but it just does the same which could only mean the IC gone bad or curruept on it. I've got several devices that could program the xsv files format like NAND-X, Glitch360 Spi & Matrix NAND programmer. anyone used or has idea how any of these can be used to program the IC on Aladdin XT or read the IC on this new Jafar chip?
5. Long time Xbox owner... recently decided to get the Xbox out of storage... It was pretty mint when put away. Got it out and the Samsung drive seems to have stopped reading discs while it was packed away. How that happens I don't understand but .. I'm here as part of the rediscovering OG Xbox journey.
6. I found this and thought it would potentially make a nice jewel backlight. They are paper thin, 10cm x 10cm EL panels. They are cheap and simple. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000511081220.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.3cc67ef9BTKbRB&algo_pvid=70858ccc-5276-4812-92bf-166bf11b0c47&algo_exp_id=70858ccc-5276-4812-92bf-166bf11b0c47-8&pdp_ext_f={"sku_id"%3A"12000019280130651"}&pdp_npi=2%40dis!CAD!!12.2!!!!!%402101d91e16555800182977430ed7b3!12000019280130651!sea There is a little inverter for the panel, but its small enough to fit behind the harddrive. Its powered by the extra molex connector on the startech ide to sata board. They come in 3.3v, 5v, and 12v. I got a few 5v panels, and a few 12v panels, since thats the available power from the molex. I thought maybe 12v would be brighter, but no, its the same. The panels are all the same. Its only the inverter that is different. Some 12v panels I ordered came with a slightly larger inverter that will not fit in behind the harddrive. So, if you order one of these, make sure its the small inverter that is included.
7. I recently bought a "working" stock v1.0 with a duke controller off Ebay, but turns out the seller's head is empty because they shipped it with zero padding and it now FRAGs, awesome. The thing is, it came with an HD AV pack which looks like it goes for a good bit more than what I paid. So, is this a win/resell or what? Not sure the console is too good for parts.
8. Was doing a clear out and find an board under my desk that still boots but I'm missing the original HDD. I tried all the HDD's I got but they all gave error code 6 which I understands the board was unable to unlock the HDD. I've Aladding XT and Open xenium chips, can I install either to get around the HDD and flash the tsop or its never gonna happen without the orignal HDD?
9. Hey I know you can add main menu options with custom folder paths but when I set it to an app and select it, it opens the folder instead of the app inside it. Is there any way to add a path to a specific file?
10. I have a bunch of games installed on my hardmodded (TSOP) Xbox and they all work fine except for Blinx 2. I'm using XMBC4Gamers and the Xecuter 5035 BIOS. Everytime I try to load Blinx 2 it just displays a black screen and softlocks, nothing shows up, not even the intro. IGR also stops working so I have to press the power button. I know my dump is correct so I am a little confused. I have had this problem before with 2 games. One was Animaniacs but swapping out the XBE with the European version fixed it. The other game was a PAL exclusive, SCAR: Squadra Corse Alfa Romeo, I simply changed the mode to PAL 50Hz and it works. Blinx 2 only had a global release so I can't swap XBEs and running it at 50Hz doesn't fix it. I also tried different resolutions between 480i, 480p, 720p but the results were the same. As a last resort, I tried looking it up but apparently I'm the only one with problems running this game so I don't know what else to do other than ask here.
11. Growing up as a wee gaming lad, my first home console was the ever cheap PS2 Slim with a PAID demo disc from Circuit City (Shoutout to Jampack Volume 13). Even as I amassed my collection of games, I was envious of the competition from Nintendo, since the funny cube had the cool italian guys, & I didn't. but then there was the Xbox, something that seemed so powerful & complex, I avoided it entirely out of fear & confusion (mostly confusion). However, I had multiple cool uncles who played classics like Halo, Doom 3, & Jedi Knight Academy on their individual Xboxes. Every single time I saw them play these titles, I was floored by their visuals, the gameplay on display, & the fact it was all coming out of this hulking THING that I knew was just better than my PS2 in every way, including physically if my PS2 was forced to do a trust fall with Xbox. Fast forward to the present, & for the past 6-7 months, I've been on an absolute spree on collecting Xbox Classics, controllers, accessories, & multiple Xboxes themselves after learning how varied the modding scene for the Green Box actually is. After spending over a decade completely ignoring the brick that I so deeply admired, the goal is to honor it's legacy by cleaning up any Xbox that I find a good deal for, learn what makes them tick, mod them to smithereens, & of course, play. The true first Xbox doesn't deserve to be forgotten.
12. Hello everybody. I am just returning to the original xbox ecosystem after quite a long hiatus. I originally joined and frequented Xbox-scene (with the same username I've chosen here) back in 03/04 and eventually fell off somewhere in the early days of the Xbox 360 and sometime before the site disappeared. Recently, I've been seeing a lot of videos on Youtube about people sort of bringing these old systems back into the spotlight, and decided it was time to pull mine out of storage and show them some long overdue love. I started with a v1.2 that I soon TSOP flashed with the Splinter Cell buffer overrun exploit, but soon caught the itch, promptly installed an Xecuter 2.3b lite and began diving in to all of the cool case mods including the clear LED backlit case jewels, a DVD drive window cut and LCD installs that were so popular at the time. After a while I reverted back to plain cases and less flashiness, and fast forward to today, I still have two v1.2s, one in an original case still rocking the X2.3b lite, and another TSOP flashed, in a green Halo style case. I really wish I still had all of my old pictures from those days of the mods I performed. I would love to look over them once again, and re-examine how well or poor of a job I had done as a young tool-inexperienced teenager lmao. So many memories of good days gone by. As for what's next, I've ordered a couple capacitor kits to refit both boards, as I'd like to keep them around another 20 years if possible. I also ordered a set of ram chips to do the 128mb RAM upgrade I always wanted to do back then, but was nowhere near handy enough with soldering, nor had the proper tools to do it. From there, we'll see. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't keen to get back into case modding, bringing with me a couple more decades worth well-needed know-how. Anyway, it's nice to be back. I don't have near as much free time these days, to stay eyes glued to the forums as I did back then, but I hope to stick around and maybe try to relive the magic once more!
13. chimp clones to new HDD with out problems but i get error 16 when i put in the new drive after cloning. i tried the 'fix error 16' button in chimp, it said it was good but when i put back in the new HDD i still get Error 16. The stock 10GB HDD i got with the xbox still works if i connect it. i then tired booting the xbox with the 10GB HDD then turning off the xbox and putting in the new HDD but then i got error 13. plz help i already spent like 70$$ on this shit. my xbox is soft modded i removed the clock capacitor i have a compatible HDD, 40-pin/80-wire IDE cables, a working SATA to IDE converter Thank you
14. I don't exactly know what I did. I just tested a PS2 joypad adapter which worked for a little while, then the console just turned off by itself, receiving no power as I tried to repeatedly turn it on to no avail. I opened it, dusted it off and tried to turn it on with both disc drives removed and un-connected (just to watch what was happening inside): the console turned on but for just a moment, the little fan started spinning but for just a second, I repeated that many times until a tiny little "something" nearby the 1st controller port started going on fire and blown. I dusted that off too (it literally melted, turned to dust in my fingers), tried to turn it on and it worked so I reconnected the drives and it works like before but I wonder: what was that and why that happened after I tried to use the PS2 joypad adapter? Now the console works, but I notice from beyond the plastic "grates" of the side there's a red led on the motherboard. Did I remove an obstacle to the correct functioning (a material bug or something) or did I accidentally removed a crucial part of the motherboard (like a chip, a transistor, etc... sorry for my ignorance I just noticed it when it was on fire for a second, something like extremely little smoking up then nothing)? I also checked the temp after a 2 minutes gameplay it went from 70 to 90 then it stayed stable... what should I do to prevent further damage?
15. Hello everyone I got a Softmodded V1.0 Evox with a 500hd, i´ve about 200 titles that work, but recently i´ve installed some via Flashfxp5 but they didn´t launch from the dash menu, it shows loading but it goes back to Evox menu, and doesn´t start from a game disc(does the same thing). The orange light is always on on the tray button. What i tried already: Cleaning cache from E: and X: Y: and Z: (nothing) Patched xbe of some games via c-box tool (nothing) Still, nothing, games won´t start anyway, what i´m missing here? Thank you very much
16. I am trying to salvage a busted white duo x2 mod chip for parts for a project im working on. I know the larger square 'duo' chip is a xilinx xc9572xl. but Im not sure what the larger chip is (I believe it is nand?) I am more interested in the square 8 pin chip that has the ic part and serial number sanded off. if anyone knows what the 8pin chip is, please let me know. edit: the 'amd' chip is most likely: 16MBIT PARALLEL FLASH MEMORY 48TSOP / AM29LV160MT-100EI (legacy) or S29AL016J70TFI010 (taken from open xenium)
17. Due to some modification that previous owner made, when I turn on the Xbox it's working fine, but the circle is red,but there is no error at all. Its really annoying, I would like to change it back to the original green. Also, when I boot up the xbox the Xbox logo is blue instead of green. I would like to restore this too. Do I have to flash a new bios, or it can be done by only modifying a couple files? Before I reformated the HDD on the title screen there was a "Slayers 2.7" text, so I guess they made all this with that, I mean I dont know what is this Slayers stuff, but it maybe have to do with something with this case.
18. A service installed an Aladdin xt modchip into my xbox, works perfectly, the problem I have is that if I press the power button it drops me into the official MS dash, if I hold the power button for 1 sec it takes me to the Slayers custom dash, so I can play anything. I wanted the modchip to be permanently enabled so I dont have to hold every time the power button, so I soldered two joints as shown here: This causes my xbox to turn on as soon as I plug it into the wall, even without pressing the power button, and the xbox can't be turned off. Is it a normal thing? I mean this automatic power on obviously not normal, but that one that I have to hold the power button to enter custom dash, is it normal? Or the service messed up the soldering points with the modchip on the motherboard? I have a 1.6 motherboard I guess.
19. It's a chipped (Aladdin Advance) Rev 1.0 OG Xbox. It's quick soldered (not using the pins, D0 grounded to (https://imgur.com/a/jdytwmN), I removed clock capacitor as well it didn't leak. I tried it without the chip on. Same problem. Put new thermal paste on both cpu and gpu. Same problem. I don't know if it's the modchip or the Xbox is actually broken.
20. Is as the title says. I'm going to be removing the metal shielding on the top panel to replace my jewel tomorrow and couldn't help but wonder if there's any point to putting it back on. Does it provide any real benefit? Maybe removing it could also help airflow / temps? Let me know what you think.
21. I've been writing and tweaking my UnleashX config for about a day or so and I think I have every feature that I personally want from my dashboard. The only issue is with the DVD copy function. It works as expected, except that when it is selected without a disc in the drive, it completes instantly and still says that ripping the disc was successful. I'd like to throw an error MessageBox if this is the case just to make it a bit more presentable. Do any XML wizards know if there's a way to check if there's a disc in the drive? Any help is greatly appreciated. <List Text="Copy Disc to HDD" Sort="Off" Batch="True">
Proceed with copying the disc to the HDD?\nThe directory will be written to F:\games\[Title]

Error: failed to copy disc. The disc may be dirty or damaged

Disc successfully copied to HDD!\nPlease remove the disc before continuing.

</List> config.xml
22. Hello All, I'm about to get my mod on with one of my old 1.6 Xboxs. I've done a little bit of this, but I'm very intimidated by the "micro soldering" needed for the video ribbon cable. Does anyone out there know what type of soldering hardware I'll need to make that an easier step to accomplish? Tman
23. Hi, i've read over at reddit that there is some new Beta of UIX Lite which has an integrated FTP Server. Anyone know where to get this version? Eventually someone can enlighten me what those "usual places" are Thanks, Egon
24. Hello, Just finished doing my first 128mb upgrade on a 1.0 xbox. Overall it wasn't too bad just had to take my time. Used xblast os to make sure all chips were good and let it run for a while and let everything heat up.. everything is good.. Next step was to flash regular bios back to the tsop replacing xblast bios. Got netflash going and loaded up a 1mb x5035... progress bar completed then the xbox rebooted... on reboot I accidentally bumped the power button shutting the xbox off... not sure if I screwd up the flash by bumping the power button or if there was an issue with the bios file I used... Now when powering up the xbox the power cycles a couple times then flashes red/ green with no video output.. I do have a couple Aladin chips around here somewhere I should be able to flash and use but I was just wondering if there is any way to save the on-board flash chip? I seem to recall reading about some modified m7 bios that may allow saving on-board flash but I'm assuming the modified bios would only work with certain bios on the tsop... Can anyone please confirm if I can save the tsop or am I stuck with a modchip on this box? Took my time installing the ram chips only to rush the bios flash... sooo stupid
25. I fixed my water damaged xbox today with a lot of help and pointers from some of the guys here. Basically my xbox was water damaged a few years ago, after a long time drying out I turned it on and it would only stay on for about 20 minutes before shutting itself off. I never really planned on fixing it as I have many replacements but today I noticed that the fan was dead and I replaced it, now it seems to be working fine. What led me to do this was another issue, I had forgotten about the damage earlier this week and booted the console up to grab some files, anyway the console shut itself down a few times while I was going about some other things around the house. I don't know much about electricity, basically just hot, neutral and ground, that's about it. So I was thinking about how I had this damaged xbox plugged into a power strip with several other consoles and whether this damaged xbox could damage other consoles sharing its powerstrip if used. Now I have been told by the higher ups here that it is not a problem, but I would like to know why. Basically how does a (specifically 1.6) xbox deal with electrical problems, whether it is a short, water damage, any electrical issues. What prevents it from damaging other consoles that share a power strip or power plug? I know the xbox does not have a grounding prong so what prevents any excess charge traveling to other systems? My xbox had a dead fan which I would assume shorted out from water damage, how does that factor? (specifically a 1.6 xbox) Many thanks guys for all your help and I hope I am not being a pain.
