About Me

  1. Hello everyone, so here I am, a person with nearly no knowledge about the OGXBox Here is a little backstory and what my "plans" are. Four or five years ago I bought off a xBox from eBay with the goal to softmod it and play backups from the harddisk. I already hat a 120 GB HDD laying around. So I messed a bit around and got it pretty easly running and finding out, that the XBox was already somehow modded. Long story short: I swapped out the HDD and played for a couple of months with the OG Xbox until I moved into a new appartment with my wife. At my job I found two 750 GB HDD IDE drives and thought "sweet, lets swap them out". But guess what: I did not saved the tutorials on how to swap the HDD. I remember that I burned a CD to save the HDD key, and lock the new HDD with the same key to get it working. After a little bit of digging I read about the clock capacitor issue. After realising that my XBox is now more then three years in my basement I only thought So now I'm sitting at work and as soon as I'm back home getting my old XBox back and see if damage is there or not Well, because of my missing knowledge on how to swap out harddisks again I wanted to ask for you help! I already found out about chimp and got a Y-Molex Cable in hand. So the swapping should not be that hard. But since I want to bring back new life to my XBox I wanted to learn more about it. And there is now the your help needed: How to I found out what softmod is installed (if a softmod is installed, I never removed the ODD drive and see if there is a chip in it) Should I update the softmod even if everything is working? What if I got a softmod without the clock loop fix and already removed the capacitor, is there still a way to recover the XBox? As you can see, my questions are really beginner like, but it's quite hard to find more informations and I thought it woudl help me a lot if you could help me So thanks in advance for you help!
  2. I have a dvd drive that reads disks but crashes because the board is faulty - can I take a working board from a dvd drive with a laser that doesn't read disks? And If so is it pretty easy to do - any guides? Thanks
  3. Hello everyone, im new to this mod thing but im not new to electronics.. I have a degree in Aviation Electronics (avionics) and enjoy tinkering with many retro consoles in my spare time.. Thanks for Reading and thank you all for the community..
  4. So yes, I know it sounds weird, but I dream with disabling or remove the analogue/sensitive button crap from my Xbox controller! I want to play the Splinter Cell games and their sensitivity is horrible the way it works with the original Xbox controller (you have to press very hard on the face buttons for actions to register). It would also help other games and compatibility with other controllers (I've heard the wireless logitech controllers have compatibility issues with original xbox controllers that USE the sensitive functionality). At least I would want to make it so every push of the button, no matter how slightly, it would push at 255 strength every time. Anybody has any idea of how to begin doing this? This would be done in hardware hopefully. All ideas are welcome
  5. So yes, that is my question, are there any custom dashboards that look like the original microsoft dashboard? See, I am quite new to the "original Xbox" and I would LOVE to experience something at least similar to the original experience with an Xbox circa 2004. You know, with all the sounds (which I've heard they are creepy) and look of the original. I am yet to use my XBOX as it came with the controllers completely smashed and dead. I live in Chile, so I bought an controller in good condition and it will come here who knows when (internationally). No market for used Xbox things in here. I am also searching for a 220v 1.6 Power supply for the Xbox, just in case, I mention this. Hope to hear from you guys, I did enjoy the 360 A LOT, so I think I am going to love the Xbox! Cheers to all! Hector Hidalgo aka Nacho el Kid
  6. So my friend and I are trying to replace the front panel LEDs with RGB LEDs using a separate microcontroller. We were able to read the status from the current front panel so we can react to error codes properly, so it isn't just a "dumb" LED replacement with an external controller. Our next goal was to send commands over the SMBus to the Arduino (Nano, ATmega328P) we use to control the RGB LEDs. I customized the XBMC code to send data to the new address I defined for the Arduino, in our case we used 0xE9. Since the Wire library of the Arduino already shifts the bits, we set the Arduino's address to 0xE9 too. The thing is, the Xbox sends the signal, but the Arduino isn't reacting to the given address. We already tried to analyze the signal and we can confirm that there is data being sent through the SMBus. OFC we wired up SDA and SCL correctly, we checked twice and since the logic analyzer is able to sniff data, it should be correct. Has anyone ever tried this yet? I've seen a couple of threads talking about controlling Ambilight over the SMBus but it seems like nobody has tried it yet. I guess we are doing something wrong, but we haven't yet figured out what it is that we are missing. Next thing would be buying a proper logic analyzer, but maybe somebody here has some experience and could lead us in the right direction before we spend the money. Is there any more documentation on the SMBus of the Xbox out there? I've just found the documented stuff on the xboxdevwiki. Thanks in advance!
  7. Are here any repercussions to that? i did it to prevent leaking but i'd like to know if it needs replacing for some feature or if it was unnecesary.
  8. Any suggestions as to why this is the case? the path i'm using is on partition F, could that be an issue? Thanks in advance.
  9. Hello everyone, just wanted to say hi. I just got an xbox and can't wait to make it into a full arcade machine.
  10. Hello, I have a V 1.0 Xbox that i bought modded back in 2003. around 2004 i updated the harddrive to a larger, and i did an update with Slayers disk(v2.4?) I cannot seem to be able to identify how the xbox was modded initialy. i have a "unknown" bios version. i cannot see a installed modchip. and rocky5 softmod disk does not give me any options to update the softmod. Would it seem that this could be an tsop fixed unit? from what i can remember, i do not think the unit was opened, so im unsure it its a tsop or softmod.
  11. I dismantled and washed an xbox and cleaned the motherboard with alcohol tips - the problem is that the motherboard - controller ports - inner plastic parts of dvd drive and hard drive still stink - it’s like a stale cigarette smell any suggestions? Thanks
  12. I bought 10 used xboxes and I would love to resurrect them. Maybe you could help out as the most sites are down that contain proper information about the OGXBOX. First one tries to boot 2 times, the red/orange flashing. I soldered a Aladdin XT on it, the Modchip flashes red as well, but no change in behaviour ... Any ideas ?
  13. Hi all, new to the original xbox scene, but been modding something or another for more years than I care to admit!. Decided to get one a while back, which I soft modded with SC, then it went into the 'collection'. Had a few other projects on the go which sucked up any spare cash, but now have 2 more originals, both hard modded, 2 Mad Katz wireless controller's, etc, etc. All I need to do now is reinstall W10 on the PC, so I can burn a update DVD (Haxan?), and get them all 2 terrabited up!. Anyway, back to the dirty work (full refurbs). Thanks for having me here!.
  14. Hi All It took a bit but it's working the way I wanted. All hidden inside the case. I wanted to be able to retain the Original controller or plug in a wireless adapter for the Xbox360 wirless controller. Using Ryzee119's adapter and some switching and making use of the light gun wire I got it working. At this stage it is just the 1st port with the other ports untouched. The only small issue is the 5 second delay before the 360 controller will work after that the there doesn't appear to be any lag between the 2. The video clip should give you the idea of what I wanted. https://youtu.be/rVq23B0gLdU Cheers SS Dave
  15. What skin do you all like? I'd like to use xbox xbmc emustation but I can't seem to get Coin Ops Ninja Massive to appear on it - so I'm looking for an alternative skin - any ideas greatly appreciated - thanks.
  16. I hace a 300gb IDE hard drive that I used in a sodtmodded Xbox back in the day - only realized this evening that it is locked and that I no longer have the Xbox I made it for - is there anyway to unlock it - I have softmodded xboxes lying around - would they help unlock it? Thanks
  17. Hi - wasn't sure where to post this and thought I'd post it here seeing as you guys focus on cases. I'm looking for the front facia part that says "xbox" and attaches to the dvd drive drawer. I fixed a drive that I thought was unfixable with a new rubber band and a good cleaning with alcohol. Now I'd like to find a replacement part in the UK - anyone able to point me in the right direction - can't see them on ebay or amazon. I have an original black xbox so I need the part in black. Thanks for any help.
  18. Hey everyone, I wanted to start a discussion/thread about games that are in perfect working condition but for some reason the DVD Drive is too old or stubborn to read the game. I of course have 2 consoles both with Thompson drives and I found (so far) that neither will read the following games: 1. Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball 2. Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring. Both discs are in pristine condition but UnleashX and DVD2XBOX give a "Tray Empty" message. I did a Google search for these and it seems others have the same problems with these 2 games being read on a Thompson Drive. I wanted to know what other games and drives folks are having issues with. Hope to hear from you all. Thanks, Larry
  19. Hey, Everyone! I joined the a few weeks ago. I've been modding OG Xbox since the days of The Screen Savers on Tech (G4) TV. I got my first and only modchip, an Xecuter 2.3b Lite+ back in around 2003. The very first time I got the new Evolution-X Dashboard to load and a Genesis emulator to run I was over the moon thrilled and thus began my heightened interest in "modding" things. I was always perusing the Xbox-scene website. Shortly thereafter, I had quite a few folks ask me to mod their systems but they were all softmods and hard drive upgrades. I left the Xbox modding scene pretty much right after the 360 came out but, when I discovered CoinOps, Rocky5's softmod tools, and TSOP modding a couple years ago, it reignited my interest. I've been practicing my soldering skills so I figured I'd give TSOP modding a go. My model 1.0 Xbox I bought back in 2001 was the guinea pig and was successful with the TSOP on the first try. I first removed the old modchip as it was having issues staying in contact with the motherboard. This would cause it to power cycle 3 times then flash red. Once it was removed, the problem went away. I was so elated that I found someone on FB Marketplace who sold my his 1.0, 2 duke controllers, and about 12 games for $30. He said it was having issues shutting off but, after a good cleaning and a clock capacitor removal, it's working great. I TSOP modded that one as well although it took me about 6 tries to get the TSOP writeable. My next hardware venture may be into the realm of 128MB upgrades although my soldering skills are kinda crappy. I actually really enjoy playing these old games too and have recently completed Baldur's Gate I and II, Evil Dead: Regeneration, and am currently playing Gauntlet: Dark Legacy. Here are some of the other retrogaming interests I've involved myself with: Created a Arcade (LaunchBox/Hyperspin) system from a shoddy empty arcade cabinet. It now includes about 80 systems and tens of thousands of games (see slideshow below). You can view my Hyperspin contributions here: https://hyperspin-fe.com/profile/18535-malarrya/content/?type=downloads_file You can view my LaunchBox contributions here: https://forums.launchbox-app.com/profile/79634-malarrya/content/?type=downloads_file (I'm very proud of the D&D Platform I created). Fully restored a Marvel vs Capcom 2 machine from non-working/shoddy status to fully working and Net DIMM expandable. The Net DIMM is a Naomi system cartridge that's network capable and contains 512MB of flash memory so many other Naomi games can be flashed to the cabinet. Soft-modded several Nintendo Wii systems installing new games, emulators, and programs with an SD card. Updated my Sega Dreamcast so games are launchable from the rear serial port using an SD card. Still own my original Sega Genesis with 32x and Sega CD and have collected about 30+ 32x games. Restored/fixed 2 ColecoVisions and amassed about 50 games Own about 60 Original Xbox games, 2 dozen Xbox 360, and about 10 Xbox One games. I've owned the following consoles (in personal chronological order): Pong, Atari 2600, ColecoVision, NES, Sega Genesis, Sega 32x, Xbox original, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Sega Dreamcast, Xbox One S, and Sega CD. I've always been the "other system" guy. Coleco over Atari, Sega over Nintendo, Xbox over PlayStation, Samsung over Apple, Samsung over Sony (TVs), etc. My interests also include my family, snowboarding, baseball, hockey, movies, guitar, boardgames, throwing Halloween parties, and Comic-Con (conventions). I mostly listen to Celtic music, John WIlliams music, Beatles, Pop-punk, and 80s. Good to meet you all!
  20. Hi - having gotten the xbox original bug recently I have acquired a few original xbox consoles from friends and colleagues. I have a 1.0 that has a fan on the GPU so it's pretty noisey. I have a 1.6 and that can't be Tspoped and I don't have the skills required to add a chip. Today, a colleague gave me an xbox 1.1 - I opened it and checked to see if there was a fan on the GPU and there isn't - which is good in terms of noise. This also means that I can TSOP the 1.1. I have 3 or 4 more lying around in my attic that I collected over the years at car boot sales (mainly to get the games that came with them in bundle packs) - is there a particular model that I should look out for like the 1.1 seems to have the best of everything for me right now or am I wrong? Which version do you think is the best and why? Thanks in advance.
  21. Its nice to see others who enjoy the hobby of retro gaming on the xbox. Great site looks very nice
  22. I've been on the facebook page for almost a year and a half now I just haven't moved over to here much yet. My grammar is pretty terrible, and I find it hard to explain my thoughts in the right words sometimes, but I love the original xbox and I'm always willing to help someone learn if I know something that could potentially help. I first got into modding through the xbox back around 2006 or 2007. Ruined a few until I became patient with projects, and now I currently have 13 OGs that I play around with. On the facebook page I learned a lot more than I had known before through hours of google searches. I even set up the debug mode and threw visual studio 2003 on an older tower running XP and started reading about C++. I wanted to not just be able to follow a tutorial, but understand WHY I was doing what I was doing to get to my end result. So now my goal is to move more from the hardware and aesthetic side of things and do more with coding and programming. I'd like to get into modding games on the OG since no one really seems to be modding in that way on the OG these days. I've been working on a complete reskin and remap of Halo for a couple years now, but that's all with tools like Sparkedit, HHT, and HMT. I was trying to work on Ultimate Spider-Man for a bit, but I still don't quite understand hex editing, and most forums it seems like you either know what they're talking about or you don't. My favorite go to game on the OG lately has been Jedi Academy, i've played through it probably 10 times this month already lol. So even though these games are still great, if you play them a lot they start to get old. I'd like to breathe new life into some of my old favorites. That's the goal anyway
  23. Hi, Is using XBMC is the only way to get the box art in the dashboard ? Regards,
  24. Hi There! Wow this is a huge community. I'm pretty new to the Xbox OG scene as a softmodder user. I'm not a collector but a huge fan of Xbox games... Don't know why, maybe because this console remind me Dreamcast Regards,
  25. I started to download the XVGM Full skin from the torrent file linked on the OP of the thread and it made it to 20% but has stopped there for good showing no seeders. Does anyone want to seed it? Or if there is a direct link download that would be appreciated as well. Thank you!
