About Me

  1. A friend gave me back the xbox I made for him years ago. I want to update it for my grankids. It is chipped with an xecuter 2, is a version 1.6, and currently has an ancient 150GB hdd. Primarily, I want to put in a new HDD, planning on a 500GB, and use a Startech SATA/IDE adapter with an 80 wire cable. Then I want to add Coinops, and XBMC; the XBMC primarily for karaoke. Also a decent dash, thinking probably the last UnleashX. I have copied all the contents onto a drive via ftp. I am confused as to how to 1) install the new hdd and 2) how to install the dash/apps. From what I read on the wiki and elsewhere, supposedly, I can just install the drive, boot, and the xecuter wizard should walk me through formatting the drive. I assume that then I can put in the Hexen disk and it will install the dash's. Is this right? My xbox modding days are long behind me (even the 360 mod days, lol). Any help is appreciated.
  2. I'm attempting to help someone with their original Xbox that refuses to boot. His family pulled it from storage around Thanksgiving and it powered on but gave error message. Initially I recommend just finding another working unit but this one holds special sentimental value. Turns out belonged to his oldest son who passed away from a brain tumor at 14. Got this as a part of his Make a Wish gift at 12 and played it constantly. So I've done softmod on Xbox, Wiis, and PS3 but never tried a modchip but was thinking that it might be a way to get this thing back up and running. Can this be done or any other ideas? I tore the system down, pulled the leaky clock capacitor, cleaned the board, checked all connections and reassembled but no go. Could use any help with this. Thanks!
  3. I've recently transplanted my failing and old IDE hard drive to a 2tb expansion with new ribbon cable. Also updated Unleash X to latest build. After I finished this I started to play games like Fight Night Round 3 where you cycle through different character bulids and such.. when customizing it looks like my drive is freezing up. I've also noticed that when trying to play emulation front ends like coinops 8 the loading of some of the larger games like Killer Instinct freeze the system as well. Could the corruption of the old drive follow to the new drive? When I did the system transfer the only items I transferred were the eeprom partitions and saves. I was thinking maybe nulling the drive and then reformatting the other partitions might work? But wanted to see if there are any other suggestions. I've also attempted to launch these in xbmc4gamers but this also causes freezing. Not sure if that should be a separate topic or not.
  4. Upgraded my tsop xbox with a 2tb hard drive which replaced the 500gb sata drive, I have tried wiping this drive 500gb but windows or Linux refuses to because it doesn't see it correctly, what am I doing wrong, I don't want to brick the drive.
  5. Have been watching the null eeprom video on YouTube, specially interested for the 1.6 xbox, little confused on the upgrade of a larger hard drive, after the null eeprom you can't just drop in a blank larger hard drive or can you like you can with Tsop system.
  6. I have a sofftmodded ver. 1.6 that was modded with an old flash drive I have with s.i.d. 5 on it. It works great and I don't want to format and lose all the movies, music, games etc. however i would like to null the hard drive to future proof it in case this hard drive dies so I can move to a large 2tb drive at that time .Is that possible?
  7. I used chimp program, to unlock a hard drive , but when I try to lock it back up . The hard drive doesn't lock and i get error message. Is there a better way and how . thanks
  8. Can you install a harddrive which is unlocked and already full of xbox content and a fully Xbox ready (Dashboard installed and drive formatted) from another machine and pop it into a X3 modded console. Will the drive need to be formatted regardless or will it see the dashboard xbe and feasibly work?
  9. Hey Gang, 14 year old hard modded XBox and 8 year old soft modded XBox finally died. Have not been in the scene for a long while. Couple of questions: - What would you suggest for the newest ultimate build? - Is there a company or someone that you would recommend to do custom mods, case, system, everything? Thanks for add!!
  10. Hello, Just wondering if anybody else has encountered something similar. My hard drive is 250 gigabytes, xbox sees it as 23o gig but my issue is that my f drive where Ninja Premium (all packs 70ish gigs) and games (18 are 1-2 gigs, some are only 500megs) only occupy 12oish gigs, I see this by trying to delete it and then it shows me the size before confirming. I had f occupy all the leftover space with the partition tool when I copied my original drive but it just doesn't seem correct. I'd hate to redo everything, since ftp'ing takes forever. Are there any "hidden" files I should be looking for? If I do "start over" should I just do the regular formatting ie: f,g drives etc....? Thanks !!!!!!! EDIT: Realized I posted in Hardware Mods. Could this be moved to general if not allowed. Thanks again..
  11. Hi, I've managed to swap out the 200GB hard drive on an old Xecuter3 modded Xbox and I've got it to boot to UnleashX, but I'm not sure about the formatting of F: and G. I've tried both setting it to around 927GB for each partition and also tried F 120GB G 1734GB but I seem to remember there are some issues with hard drive sizes and partitions. How should I be setting it up to avoid any data loss as I load up games and apps? Thanks for any help.
  12. Ok here is the story. My brother just gave me his old xbox. It has been hard modded a while ago. It is a version 1.4 with a windbond TSOP. It is currently running Evolution x 3921. I have installed bios checker 5.0 and it says the bios is unknown. Also the MS dashboard can not be loaded. I would love to update this. What would be the order to do this. I read somewhere to run the krayzie one click soft mod installation, which would update the soft mod. Do I then just re-flash the tsop with the 256 EvoX M8+. I do have hexen 2017 disc. Thanks
  13. Hi guys I have a softmodded xbox and would like to create a backup hard drive in case the softmodded drive in the console takes a dump! I know that the xbox hard drive is nulled! I also ftp'd the E:\ folder wich contains the eeprom.bin file to my pc for backup. Can I just ftp all the folders in the xbox hard drive to my pc to create a backup of entire drive? (I use filzilla to ftp files)
  14. Here is how to unlock an Xbox hard drive with a program called Hdat2. Software link: https://www.hdat2.com/ Software is in attachment also. It is a Boot able iso. Instructions: I've done a YouTube video showing how to unlock an Xbox hard disk with HDAT2 link here for the program http://www.hdat2.com/This is a WIP, there may be some errors I will try to update the videos and instructions over time 6th April edited YouTube video9th May 2017 v60b4, new YouTube Video and updated instructionsSet up your PC with the Xbox hard disk as Master and the DVD drive as Slave.Set the BIOS to boot from DVD/CD first. When the program loads, be patient it takes a little while Type "HDAT2" at the command prompt.Select the hard disk by using the cursor keys and pressing enter.Scroll down to "Security" press enter.Scroll down to "Unlock device" press enter. Then press "I" to change from User to Master.Pressing "K" will scroll through a list of built in passwords, if you're lucky it'll be one in the list.Xboxes are usually "XBOXSCENE" or "TEAMASSEMBLY" which are near the end of the built in password list.Press "S" to set and then "Y" to confirm.NOTE: You will only get 5 attempts, and then you will have to re-boot, and start again You can also enter a password manually by pressing "P"Passwords can be entered in User mode, but you don't get the "K" option for the built in password list.If you have "zeroed" your hard drive password then 30 HEX is DECIMAL 0.Hopefully the video will show what I mean https://youtu.be/ZnvqxgTJsfoHDAT2 also has other useful hard drive tools to repair bad sectors, erase etc...Have a look at some of the other YouTube videos by other users Video Below: hdat2cd_60b5.iso
  15. OK, Here is a little look at what im doing... Crusty old box from classifieds ended up being 1.6 with alot of nasty dirty components. Softmod and broken dvd drive (wont spin up or read a disc), stock hdd. while surfing around late on ebay i found clean well conditioned board and hdd (1.6 on both accounts) so it was purchased and installed. (didn't need to do that) Lightly cleaned everything with soft brush and compressed air installed dvd drive from another box id picked up Used hexen LXHDM after cloning stock drive to 500GB using chimp, Once i found this site i downloaded a few things and installed XBMC4Gamers Looking at slimming the box (potentially) i prepped myself by removing dvd board from drive. Also taking the "motor control board" to simulate the drive being closed by taping the switch shut. ****when i took the board out i accudentally broke the motor side of the board off****** very upset about that (these drives arent that cheap) so, installing the board i eventually got the xbox to boot after seeing an error 12 and an error 13... it was like i fiddled around a bit and it started working (strange) now, all that is logically left is the case mod. this is where my problems begin to develop please stay with me. installed my emulators (all working) installed game collection (all working) (large ftp xfers) all ready to go, i find a nifty way of mounting the board to the dvd cradle and look at how im going to get this drive in here.... i go to boot, ERROR 13 i tried all i could think of... NOTHING. in a bout of frustration i started from scratch... such a rookie move, so much data lost. clone drive etc, i have all of it working smoothly again. so, last thing i need to figure out this dvd board, i install the board. ERROR 13.. why would i rebuild my catalogue before getting this thing working?? so dumb. now, i reinstall the drive from other xbox, error 13.... oh boy... few more error 13 then get it to boot... now xbmc4gamers wont load my profile... it just keeps reloading manage profile!!! so i had a kernel error and a partial recovery I RUN TO MY PC and check the ftp works, reinstall XBMC4GAMERS and by golly she is back in business... What i should have done before writing the post but maybe only occurred to me WHILE writing the post is that maybe if i install the board while xbmc is running and reinstall it xbmc at the same time a fresh boot would help? is there some sort of write to the HDD 'about' the current dvd drive? or did the break on the board i made cause this? (i had this board working fine in my first build before tearing down and rebuilding the software) im also attaching a photo of that broken pcb my insolence caused
  16. I currently have an xbox I bought that was already soft modded several years ago. It has a 750 gig hard drive in it. I was wondering is it possible to clone the hard drive thats in it, then take the cloned drive and install it into another soft modded xbox? Is it possible lock the hard drive with the new eeprom from the 2nd softmoded xbox? trying to save a lot of time If I can do it this way...thanks
  17. I am sure it is just experience (my lack of) but there seems to be a certain amount of Voodoo involved with adding a new Hard Disk to a TSOP'd system using HeXEn I have successfully done it but now I am using a SATA 1TB Drive w/adapter and I am on my third try at it (formatting etc.). Still nothing. I am wondering if my Seagate ST1000DM003 is not compatible or I am missing something? Any advice?
  18. More curious than want to put into practice but after I load a game from disk onto the Xbox Hard Drive, it might be nice to create an ISO as a backup if the game disk fails. I was thinking some kind of program on a PC connected via the network to the Xbox.
  19. Not really an Xbox mod, but when I do v1.6 softmods a rigged ATX PSU comes in handy to clone your hard drive without having to power it from the Xbox. You can cut off the entire harness and wire up the two wires to a toggle switch rather than having a wire hanging. It also works well to test your LEDs before hooking them up! 3.3v, 5v, and 12v. Anyway. Enjoy!!
  20. Video from my YouTube channel on how to wire up an HDD indicator LED just for the hell of it. Lol. Enjoy!
