About Me

  1. I'm currently using the Startech USB2SataIDE to build new hdd's with FatX. I have the USB3SataIDE version, but it doesnt work with FatX. I don't know if it's because it uses an Innostor-IS611 chip, compared to the JMicron-JM20337 of the USB2 version, or something else. I've heard of people using USB3 with FatX and was curious if anyone here has had success. I average 27MB/s, just looking to do better.
  2. I'm thinking about buying a modded Xbox, and then maybe starting to learn how to mod them myself so I can save the Xboxes of friends and family. When they play, they would just likely play party games like Splinter Cell or Halo via system link. I have been casually looking at this stuff for years now, but am still kind of overwhelmed with all the options and which are best. The few things that seem most important to me is: change/remove clock capacitors, change the hdd keys to 1111111/back the keys up, soft/hard mod so the Xbox is usable after the dvd-drive fails, and some kind of controller chip or dongle that lets you use non-OG-xbox controllers. Besides all that though, some mods don't seem as worth spending the money on. I'm not convinced so far that a RAM upgrade is really "needed" for most people that would only be running retail Xbox games. I've seen there are people who have installed Noctua fans and stuff like that to damper the noise, but I don't think they run any better than OG - they're just quieter. Seems like many OG xbox mods sell for a while and then aren't sold anymore - like the wifi kit. In terms of modern TV connections, I guess electronxout seems good enough. I've seen mention of hard-modded Xboxes running hotter than softmod, so should I want to try to find a stronger fan to use internally, or is it a non-issue? I've also noticed that there are often face plate chips that display the temp, so that makes me think there is some validity to the overheating... Could someone please help break it down for me and suggest a list of things I should want in the modded xboxes, and more than that - if anyone here would sell the whole package? I have looked around a lot online but I don't feel like most sellers sell everything that I might be wanting in one package. Like - if they are not someone who mods the console themselves, they often times don't know if the capacitors were replaced/removed (so - I don't know how much longer I'd have with the new ones). I also think some of those low profile cases would be really cool - if they wouldn't get in the way of any better fan setup (if there even is a need). Edit: I figure I can get a soft mod kit (flash drive + Xbox USB adapter) for now as a simple fix for people that still care about their Xboxes... change and/or backup the HDD keys. I did glance over the wiki, did reading here & on Reddit, and talked to chatgpt to try to narrow things down a bit. Please let me know if I can further improve here. Again, I don't think most people in my circle would care about the RAM upgrade. Unless I'm missing something, it's more for playing other games - but those games still may not run as well as OEM.
  3. i have replaced caps on probably 8 xboxs. i have video issues with many of them and i'm wondering if replacing all of the caps is really needed? i usually replace the ones in front of the cpu/gpu and any others that look damaged. i ordered a 1.1v xbox that i am planning to mod and hopefully use it as my main xbox. i want it to look and sound the best possible.
  4. i got one of those xedusa hdmi adapters for my xboxs today. the picture is the best i have ever seen on my 1.6 but, the wavy lines are horrible on my 1.4. i'm strongly considering removing the hard mod and hdd from my 1.4 and modding another xbox. the 1.6 has the issues with displaying some games in 480p and the 1.4 has the wavy line issue that no one seems to really be able to figure out and fix. so, between the 1.0-1.3, which is the best xbox to mod? i'm looking for the most relaible and the best video/audio quality.
  5. What's the best replacement fan to make the Xbox run quieter?
  6. Decided to get some mini heat sinks for the Southbridge chip. I know some people claim it's unnecessary but given how hot the chip can get I figured it wouldn't hurt. Heat sink is very hot to the touch so it's doing it's job nicely. Right now I have MX4 thermal paste under it/holding it down. My concern is once an Xbox is sold and is in transit will the heatsink just fly off? I can move it with one finger without much resistance. Would it be held down more securely with paste or a pad?
  7. Hi, I have a revision 1.0 Xbox that I originally softmodded. It is now hardmodded and I would like to flash the original 4034 stock bios back onto the TSOP. I was going to use the method in this post: But I got confused when I saw this warning in the manual (attached). I tried the method suggested in the warning first, and was not successful. Am I good to use the TSOP flasher when my console is already softmodded and hardmodded? To restore the TSOP to stock bios?
  8. Wanting to avoid paying single piece prices so I'm looking for a good vendor that offers quantity discounts on quality IDE cables and the replacement, full-length controller replacement cables. Any recommendations or success stories? Thanks.
  9. New user here, so my apologies if I've posted this in the wrong sub-forum. What is the best utility boot disk for an (modded) original XBox, please? So that if your Xbox won't boot because of a problem with the hard drive, then you can download and burn a disc image containing things like an XBox file manager, a utility to lock/unlock the hard drive, (re)-install a specfic dashboard (such as Evo-X), etc. Then put this disk in your XBox, boot up, and you then get access to the utilities so you can fix the problem just using the botable utilities disc. I vaguely remember Slayers and Hexen, but not enough to decide which to use now, plus there might be better or more useful such utility discs nowadays. So what would anyone recommend please? Also, another question, if you'll allow me. Say you have a working original XBox, and it boots up from hard drive properly, to a working dashboard, and you can then load your games and emulator from hard drive. Basically, everything is working fine. But you want to try a different dashboard, then if you were to copy everything from the XBox's partition to a temporary folder on the, say, F: drive, such as: F:\XBMC_bootup_C_partition then if you installed a different dashboard, tried it, and didn;t like it, and wanted to go back to the original, XBMC dashboard, then if you just deleted everything from the partition, and copied every file back from the 'F:\XBMC_bootup_C_partition' folder back into the partition then would the XBox be returned to it's former boot-up state, and everything would work properly, as before? Thanks for any answers.
  10. Hey guys so anyways I was wanting to play some neo geo games on the Xbox but what's the go to neo geo emulator for the original Xbox?
  11. My next mission is to TSOP flash a 1.4 Xbox that has an Alladin mod chip, from memory with the mod chip disabled the Xbox just frags so I wired it with the mod always on. I'm guessing at some point a TSOP flash was attempted on it and failed or something went wrong with the original bios. Is it going to be possible to recover the TSOP on this one, can I flash with the mod chip installed somehow? Thanks for any advice.
  12. Looking for advice on how to remove the Xbox top panel crystal / jewel (not sure correct term) with minimal damage to the panel and the crystal / jewel itself. I'm thinking maybe fishing line and heat gun? I'm removing the jewel / crystal from a rare top panel so I can't afford to fuck it up.
  13. Hello I have an X3 modded XBOX. I've noticed a thread elsewhere on OGXBOX mention the Origins 2TB from Arcade Punks. So I'm giving that a go out of curiosity. I'm still trying to use MultiPAR to fix the RAR files with the PAR2 files. Then I'll jump on the torrent to finish it. But I have other consoles and Launchbox set up so emulation isn't the main driving force, its the XBOX games and homebrew. I'm just wondering if there is a full 2TB XBOX games image anyone recommends or should I go with, that has all the boxes on view like I have set up in Launchbox? I current have XBMX4XBOX as my dashboard. If I remember correctly, is there a Windows app that I can transfer the extracted images (I presume its still this way rather than copy the ISO) to the drive while attached to my PC as this would be much quicker? Thanks in advance
  14. I've been doing a crazy amount of research, and thanks to how scattered information is, I decided to ask for a "definitive" answer: What is the best way of loading games onto an Xbox? While I know there are varying definitions of "best" I'm mostly referring to compatibility (no random breakage) and file size (as small as possible.) I initially assumed that CCI was the best, but due to Repackinator refusing to compress my redump ISOs (unless it was via context menu, but then I had no default.xbe), I looked into the other two methods (XISO and extracted files in a folder) I personally find it easiest for me to just extract everything with XDVDMulleter and drop it onto my HDD, with the few test games I've used work seemingly perfect, I can't help but wonder if any issues can come from this method?
  15. What are the best replacement parts for the Original Xbox and where would I buy them? Thanks to you I've already gotten a new IDE cable and bands for my DVD Drive https://www.ebay.com/itm/264927666468?hash=item3daeeb6124:g:fDoAAOSwYVZfNwU1 https://www.amazon.com/Optical-Drive-Replacement-Drives-Stuck/dp/B079VQCYSM Monoprice AC Cables are amazing Just in case, I'm looking for the rest of the internal wiring Such as the 4 pin peripheral power cable, is the base a standard ATX? What about the power cord for the DVD Drive? What about new ThumbSticks? I heard they can be found on ebay, but there are dozens of sellers, and some even say those don't fit properly. Where do I buy new capacitors? What about external wiring? Whats the best component cable? Best RCA Composite Cable? Once again Monoprice for AV Cable. (I use both the Chimera HDMI and the RetroTink 5x for my gaming) Just trying to rebuild my X-box, and a couple junkers I have so they can last another 20yrs.
  16. Time passes by, so does the life of our OG Xbox Clock caps (if they are not removed already) but also technology in cap replacement options. So I wonder what the most Reasonable/ Convenient/ Easieast/ Safest/ Cost efficient/ Clock cap replacement of today could be? I know some people are not bothered without it and some people (lile myself) that would like to have it working Through the years I read that it can be everything inbetween replacing it with a 1F 2.5v original spec AeroGel cap, 10F 2.5v AeroGel for longer working time, a CR2032 battery socket with 1N4148 diod in series to prevent REcharge, which would not be good, 2.4v NiMh rechargable battery. My idea, not yet installed and tested, is to solder an AAA batteries socket with two 1.2v 800mA replaceable batteries to the old Clock Cap points and try to fit it in somewhere. The batteries gives 2.7v fully charged and would (theoretically, if the Xbox can give them enough charging) give more than enough unplugged power time and it would all in all cost around 5$. So now in 2020, what is your clock cap replacement (ideas, pictures, pros/cons, results)?
  17. i see the open xenuims have gotten expensive. what's the best to use now?
  18. I'm an absolute cretin and have wanted to go for a paint job similar to the look of the official Mountaindew xbox but instead of neon green i'll have it as neon orange or something. What would you guys recommend?
  19. What is the best way to upgrade 1.6 Softmodded Xbox Hard drive.
  20. Hey, I've done a RAM upgrade on one of my consoles (1.4) and it's doing the on/off/on/off/on flash orange and red dance. I've reflowed the chips, scoured them with a magnifying glass for bridging and the rest of the board for splashes, and scrubbed the board with IPA hoping that if it was a splash, it'd be knocked loose, but I've had no luck. I'm at the point where I think it might just be some bad memory, so what would be the best way to remove the chips without damaging or moving the surrounding components?
  21. whiel i stated in my introduction post i had a Modded OG from the late 2000's to just about 2 years ago, i kinda kept to a handful of emulators (didnt wind up updating much)and played a few HDD Ready games. used it up till i got a RaspberryPi 3 for a Media Center. I Just recently snagged another OGXbox and upgraded it's HDD, i'm blind pretty much to what's changed in the intervening years. whats the best way to approach Emulation now? has there been any decent Homebrew games? outside Youtube, has any other Media service been restored? (Netflix/Plex) (i've got a nice Huge CRT TV to set this Xbox up with..)
  22. Hey guys! My friend was looking into getting a pre modded (Whether it be hard or soft modded) xbox to play with me and a group of others! I was wondering, Is there any place in particular that's best to buy these from? Is there a forum section here for buying, or a website that's very good for buying these kinds of xboxs? naturally my first thought is ebay, but I wanted to know what some of you guys think! ^^ Edit: Just realized, sorry if this is the wrong section, meant to do it in general discussion, not the collection showcase ^^;
  23. Been trying to get my head around the best way to install games. I think I got it sorted, could I get some feedback please? Start with ReDump style ISOs. Next step depends if there's anti-piracy protection (determined by going through the DVD2Xbox ACL files, eg. ACL for TOCA 3) If there's protection, just remove the video partition and leave the game partition untouched. dd if=redump.iso of=game_data.iso skip=387k bs=1k Otherwise, use extract-xiso (which now has ReDump support) to convert it into a compatible XISO and shrink the size. extract-xiso.exe -r "redump.iso" If the resulting ISO is > 4gb, use XISO Split to split into smaller files. FTP the ISO file to F/G:\\Games Run the "XISO to HDD Installer" script in xbmc4gamer Source of most of my assumptions: https://www.ogxbox.com/forums/index.php?/topic/1134-xiso-playing-games-from-xbox-hdd-using-iso-images/page/5/ Thanks everyone.
  24. As in the title, my xbox is TSOP'ed and splited with a switch for dualboot.
