About Me

  1. Hey guys, so I replaced what I THOUGHT was a clock capacitor (one of these 1F, 2.5V caps) on my 1.6 Xbox but that did nothing to solve the timekeeping issue. Is this how 1.6 boxes keep time? If not, how can I solve this problem? Can I even?
  2. I softmodded a 1.6, and a larger HDD ordered and on it's way. I'm having company over tomorrow, and realized after using XBpartitioner-1.3 to prepare for HDD upgrade (thinking I'd be simply saving that step of partitioning later), I had an F partition that wasn't large enough to hold a single game (2,500mb). Whereas, had I not partitioned F drive, I would have kept 9,500mb free on E partition (enough for a game or two). Man, hindsight... but I just went back into XBpartitioner-1.3, deleted the F partition and added it to E. Upon restart I now get MS error 21 . I now realize, that in changing partitions, I most likely formatted them to rearange stuff. I just didn't think it out in the moment, I should have just waited for the new HDD to arrive, or just robbed a smaller-then-the-ordered-one from the "old electronics shelf" in the basement.... Luckily I had FTP'd C and E partitioned to my PC, so I have copies of what it should be. But since i can't boot up, I don't see how I can access it to FTP those backups. I'm thinking I have to boot from CD, maybe Hexen, and try that way somehow? I just can't seem to have it assign an IP. I've tried DHCP and Static, manually typed in the IP, but at the top of the "Network Settings" it shows "Current IP" as 0.0.0.0 . I can however, browse the files, and there's only one folder on E now, UDATA... Through file explorer ont he xbox, I found some config files and an evoxdash.xbe, copied said files over to the E drive. It now boots up to EVOX, but I still can't FTP and there's no options that seem to help. Then I decided to try running the Hexen option to install softmod of Kingroach and start from (what I think is) scratch. But alas, I'm still getting error 21 Then I tried Krayzie's install, and things seemed to be working as it install unleashX. After following the promt once isntal was complete, to remove the CD and reboot, it now reboots to Evox with only 2 slections "Launch Disc" and "System settings"(which is more for info, no settings that offer anything different then I've encounter yet). Man I kept diggin a hole. things kept booting to evox with no options that helped, so i went back and forth with Hexen to get into file explorer and figure out why evox was loading and not unleashX (which was present on E). I figured it was something on C partition after I wiped E yet Evox would still boot. So i went back into Hexen file explorer and removed some of the things on C that I thought were directing the show to Evox. I compared files between my previous backups on the working HDD to make sure I wasn't deleting important stuff, but apparently I had because Hexen/CD drive won't load anymore. On reboots/shutdowns when thing boot up it goes to the error screen, hexen won't load. GD I should have jsut waited for that damn HDD!!!! Any ideas now? (XBOX #6 Fancy)
  3. Hello all, I have a spare XBox, chip and HDD selling as a mod "kit" I just don't have the time or need for it now... This is a 1.6 XBox in working condition. The case has 2 very small marks on it - pictures of all this can be provided based on interest. I have an LPC rebuild board, an XBlast Aladdin2 chip originally bought from Retrogamerstuff and a WD 500GB HDD that has been unlocked and was previously used in another modded console - it still has EMUS, APPS and ROMS and stuff already installed. I can include a composite cable too, but no power cord. The consoles seem to sell between £30 and £50 the chips at £16 and the drives around £15 although I'm sure I paid a bit more as I bought NOS, anyway that would be £61 - £71. Selling here for £55 not including postage within the UK. Fire a message or reply if you are interested or have any questions, I can provide pictures too. Cheers!
  4. Found agame which has corrupt screen on my 1.6 - Double S.T.E.A.L Is it easy to "patch" to use CDX or other loader , as per Rocky's patches? something I could do myself?
  5. So recently hooked up my old xbox to a HDTV - previously I only ever used it via SCART - found a few games that were garbled on my 1.6 and been looking at patching them up. I notice that Spartan Total Warrior is classed as "black screen and freezes"... well on my xbox, years ago I ripped the game from a scene release using dvd2xbox, and I am running this game happily in 480p. I know this because my tv gives a little text box showing the video mode when it switches. How is this working then?
  6. I gave my friend a 1.4 crystal case I got in a bundle of Xboxes online, I forgot to tell him about needing to remove the metal shielding from a pin. Because of that, it would not boot or show any signs of power even when he put the board back in the old case. This case was completely empty so he did use the 1.6 power supply which is also important about not mixing them. There's this one particular transistor on the standby rail on the 1.6 motherboards that can fail. I have swapped this and it is working again
  7. Hey y’all, so I want to convert a 1.6 retail og Xbox to a debug kit. I want to do this because I want to dip my feet into software development for the Xbox but how do I get this going?
  8. See here... The guy claims to have "stacked" the ram chips but is yet to supply any photo proof. He said this "You're damn right. I just finished all 4 chips and the X3 bios detects it and all is good :)" so seems to have succeeded. If so this is a world first , yeah??
  9. Hello everyone! Obviously a little new here. Looking to get my 1.6 repaired if anyone can help me out. Basically, my son and I were playing a game and console completely turned off. Turned it back on and it immediately shut off. Tried again and it wouldn’t turn on anymore. Just a click. I ordered a new power supply thinking that may be the culprit, swapped it out and still nothing. Console is softmodded and has a larger HDD that I did myself about 6-7 years ago. I rarely play (have 2 kids under 5) but my autistic son is really into sonic (which is installed on the HDD). My original sega is in storage:( I also would have to look for the original HDD drive which is probably in storage as well since I haven’t had it in there for years. At this point I’m sure it’s a motherboard issue, but definitely want to get it working again. Anyhow, let me know what possible options are! Thanks again!
  10. I bought a 1.6 xbox with plans to modchip it. The first time I booted it I got a FRAG, then after turning it off and on it was fine. I tried booting a few times and everything worked, so I chalked the first frag up to disuse for years. I opened the xbox to clean it in preperation for the modchip, make sure caps were fine and all. The metal shield was pretty rusty so following some advise from other posts here I sanded it and painted it with Rustoleum. Other than that, I didn't do anything to the rest of the box. Since putting it back together it FRAGs every boot. Did I cover a grounding connection and need to clear that? Unsure of what move to make. Here are some shots of the board. https://imgur.com/a/iuc8fc1
  11. Trying to rescue a 1.6 box. The unit booted to microsoft dash but dvd rom drive has failed, tried cleaning and pot adjustment, no luck. Next obvious option was installing a modchip.Installed an Aladdin XT plus I had working in another 1.6 as was already flashed. On boot I get the unit cycle on and off until the third attempt where it flashes Green and red really fast. I removed the lpc wiring and modchip, even pinheader, checked for damage, the header is perfect and the xbox boots normally. I have never had an issue like this before. Do I just keep trying to install again or am i missing something. Does the 3 boot attempts mean something? I am unsure to the sequence of events from pressing the power button. Any pointers, help would be appreciated. Just dont want to throw it out. Update, the green / red fragging is not modchip related and happens intermittently when running the box without a modchip. Progressively worse the more boot resets.
  12. Hola, es posible poner una F.A de la v1.6 en la v1.0. Un saludo
  13. I've been through hell with this Xbox over the past couple of weeks so let me give a bit of a rundown. I've got a 1.6 Xbox that I installed OpenXenium on using an LPC rebuild board, Chimeric's IDE cable, StarTech IDE/SATA adapter, and a WD 2TB drive. For the longest time I had issues with the OpenXenium install where it would FRAG if the chip was installed. I checked continuity and everything was fine with each VIA to its corresponding point, so I redid my soldering twice and it booted into OpenXenium. I then install a dash, setup the new drive, and put the Xbox back together. However it FRAG'ed again whenever I put the top case back with all the bottom screws. Took the case off, still FRAGing. I realized it was FRAGing with just Chimeric's IDE cable after a couple hours so I got a replacement cable, and everything worked fine with the top case back on. Until it didn't. After turning the Xbox off for a few hours it wouldn't turn back on, period. I took the top case off, and it powered on fine, but after a couple seconds I heard a loud whine/squealing noise from the right side of the Xbox (which I assume was the PSU) > turned the Xbox off > and then it never turned back on again, even with just the bare board. So I replaced the PSU. Issue fixed, it powered back on fine. But when I put the top case back on, it wouldn't power back on, and now I'm at the same spot I was before. The Xbox is not powering on no matter what I do. So here's what I've done so far since then to try and narrow this down: I do not know for 100% certain that the motherboard has been case swapped, but I have no reason to believe it was. The bottom stickers were all intact and the screws were not exposed, and there are no missing/extra screw posts on the bottom of the case compared to the board. I've also tested power with the board and PSU isolated from the case and I'm still not getting power, so the case is not the issue I've checked continuity with all VIAs to their corresponding points with a multimeter and they all have continuity. LFRAME is also not grounded I've checked the PSU using this chart here . I'm getting 5.3v on every orange, 0v on white, 0v on red, 0v on yellow, and 0.3v on blue I'm getting 3.25v-3.26v on the collector chip Anyone have any ideas on where to go from here?
  14. Hi Everyone, I am new to the OGXBOX scene. I have a working TSOPed 1.1 unit with 128GB of RAM I bought on Ebay. I also have several 1.6 motherboards/shells and I am desperately trying to install an OpenXenium board on any of them. I believe I ruined two 1.6 motherboards already (maybe they are salvageable?). I just tried soldering on the LPC rebuild board and 7 row pin header on a known, working 1.6 board last night and I tried to be very meticulous and careful but the console is now FRAGing (3 start attempts followed by blinking red and green). The actual Openxenium has no leds lit when this happens. I have sucessfully soldered a few Playstation 1 modchips as well as a Sege Genesis MegaAmp in the past, but I am having such a hard time getting the LPC rebuild (wire based or QSB board based) and OpenXenium chip working. Any pointers? Will pictures help?
  15. I've been wanting to flash over a debug BIOS to my Xenium box, and have the option to boot into the XDK launcher dashboard. I haven't been able to find a clear guide on how to go about this, particularly what debug BIOS would be compatible with a 1.6 console, if there is a compatible BIOS at all. I'd appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction of getting this set up.
  16. I am hoping someone has a saved copy or can lead me to a install guide for V2.6 ce mod chip on a 1.6 mb I have found some x3 installs but wanting to make sure I am correct. thank you in advance, Chooch
  17. Hi, i just finished rescuing and polishing up a almost dead 1.6 (dead HDD, dead Fan, 5 leaked capacitors and a burned power supply fuse) which now almost works - except for the following issue: As soon as the system has been booted, the CPU / GPU temperatures are rising to 64 °C almost immediatly and coherently. Then, it turns off after a few minutes. What i already tried: Fully cleaned and removed the old thermal paste and replaced it (holy crap, the one on the GPU felt like tarred road) Hard-tweaked the BIOS to run the Fan at 40% instead of the default 20% Both actions did not had any impact on the issue. System configuration: Alladin Modchip, EvoX M8+ 1.6 BIOS, UnleashX Dashboard (grabbed the version from the OGXBox Installer Disc), Noctua 60 mm 12 V Fan, Noname PATA-SATA Adaptor with 256 GB SATA SSD, new 80 Pin PATA Cable. Any ideas what else i could try? I don't want to flash the BIOS in the current situation because of the general system instability but would perform it with a external programmer if necessary.
  18. Hi, I found a 1.6 Xbox with an Aladdin modchip in dual boot (EvoX purple logo in the top left corner when I long press the power button). It booted an old version of xbmc, so I decided to use OGXbox Installer 2021 1.5.4 PBL (the latest version) to do a format and install the latest dash. I went to Format and Setup, then Launched XBPartitioner1.3 (black screen for a while and returned to OGXbox Menu). Then rebooted, and selected "AiO setup a new large HDD", even if the hdd is the stock one, because I followed the readme After the format though, if I reboot the xbox without the dvd inserted it hangs on boot (green Xbox with purple EvoX Logo and "Microsoft" in the bottom center). I tried selecting various default dash but it doesn't work. I don't know how the hardmod works (I am used to softmodding), but I think that maybe it searches for the dash somewhere else (?). Can someone help me please?
  19. I want to adapt a PicoPSU to a 1.6 xbox. Just wondering if anyone has done the ATX adapting to a 1.6. If so how did you deal with the 5V always on? I think this may be advantageous since there probably wont be quite the inrush on power on for the 5V rail. I was thinking of either the following: 1.) Using a relay to switch between the 5VSB and the main 5V supply when switched on. 2.) Connecting the 5VSB and main 5V supply from the ATX supply. Anyone have any thoughts?
  20. Hello guys, I just updated the fan of my Xbox and want to set now the default value of the fan to 100%. Unfortunately I don't have a Windows machine to edit the evox.m8plus.v16.fc.137.bin. If someone can tell me how to edit it on a Mac I'm also can also change it myself. Thanks for your help. Regards Nikolaj
  21. Hello all, unfortunately I damaged part of the mainboard next to the resistor R7T3 while rebuilding the LPC port on my Xbox 1.6(see picture attached). Anyone has a idea how to fix this? I tried already to solder a wire to connect the two broken wires. Unfortunately it’s too small for me to fix it. Thanks for your help.

My setup: -Xbox 1.6 -Aladin modchip -500gb sata hdd -adapter sata ide pretty new and funcitonal -truHexen2021 boot disc, booting just fine After i've managed to install everything with the boot disc, the console hangs in evox logo. If boot with the disc, it loads ok. Steps: -Boot disc, prompt "new hdd", formated -Hdd tools, formated again with xbpartitioner 1.3, leaving only f partition 430gb~ -Created only F partition, not g. -Install dashboard: xbmc4gamers: prompt: use as main one? Answer: Yes (on f partition) -Clear cache, check if f is created on file manager, apps folder ok, xbmc4gamers ok. -Took off the disc -Boot xbox -Evox logo hang screen. microsoft text below the screen Did I miss something? Thank you if you read till here.
  24. So I've finally decided to pull out my old 1.6 Xbox which I got from a friend who modded it again. It doesn't boot up properly anymore. No video output and it boots up and shuts back down 3 times before it turn to a red/green flashing icon. Disk tray works normally, I can hear the HDD spin up, but I haven't been able to test it yet. I'm at a loss what to do. Here is a picture of the mod chip:
  25. Hello Everyone. I am kind of new/kind of old to the scene, as I have an rev 1.6 Xbox that I bought brand new in 2006, softmodded and installed a 160gb harddrive, which is(was?) limited to 137Gb useable space, copied all my bought games to it, threw in a couple emulators, and then just used it on and off and basically forgot anything involved in the process to the mists of time. Recently it wouldn't power on, so I replaced the common 5 3300uF caps that were leaking, and it was good to go. My brain noted that the 16 year old IDE hard drive will not run forever, and I should look at upgrading to a SATA configuration. Due to the time gap, very old versions of software, I have now read so much conflicting information at this point am not sure what to do in 2021. I no longer have the original drive. I don't appear to have an image of either drive (8gb or 160gb) in any of my backups either. My fuzzy memory says this is bad because of linked keys. I do not have a PATA usb adaptor, or computer with PATA. I have an Xbox to USB adaptor, but I don't think I have a compatible thumb drive. Based on my research I've ordered the "correct" Startech SATA/PATA adaptor. The existing drive already has an 80 pin cable. I do have ftp access without issue. I'm attaching a 2 screenshots of my drive/system info, my questions are: Is that key in the screenshot all I need? If not what is the best way to go about backing up the drive/board key "Just in case" things go bad. And is Chimp (https://www.reddit.com/r/originalxbox/wiki/chimp/) still the best way to clone it to a new drive in 2021? I undoubtedly will have more questions, but backing up is my first priority, and once I have a confirmed backup I will be much more comfortable playing with it, and hopefully updating the various software I have loaded. Any "critical hints" or gotchas would be appreciated as well. v
