Does Xplorer360 actually see the flash drive ie. when you open it does it show Partition 0 in the left hand pane at the top? Try clicking on that to actually open the drive. After that drag and drop the files/folders you're trying to copy to it into the right pane rather than using the flakey 'Insert' option.
-
Another cause of an empty flash drive (one not being reported as unformatte, just empty or content unknown) is that the exploit/installer games saves have been incorrectly copied to it. You must only have the numbered folders on the flash drive, nothing else. I'm 99% sure it is not that in this case as it sounds like yet another way flash drives and Xboxes do not always work happily together and many can not be made to do so. Its just a matter of trying others for compatibility until you find one that is.

I think we're going to have to disagree about this. Just unnecessary and risky extra steps when the only thing required is the replacement of the main dash's XBE once its location has been confirmed.
-
Actually I do know how to do it as I've done it countless times since I replaced my first UnleashX dash in 2004, v534 with v543 I think. I described the safest method in my post which I had explained to me by Heimdall at the Xbox-Scene forum, the guy who created HeXEn. I've honed that advice since then adding my own extra safe practice steps to it. If you were just talking about backing up the C:\ and E:\ drives first then OK - good idea, no argument with that. But updating an UnleashX main dash XBE is really a simple, if slightly risky, replacement job. You just have to identify where and what it is first and make damned sure not to make any mistakes when renaming. It is vital to test it before install too. If you just FTP into place, as you seemed to be suggesting, you're asking for trouble. Alessandrol was trying to replace a UX v0.38 series dash which must be a v565 one or earlier. That suggests an old softmod too and even better advice might have been to update that using Rocky5's XBSMT which would also have installed the last version of UX as part of that process.
-
If you have a 6 year old son make sure that if you softmod the Xbox you use a package with built in maximum protection: Rocky5's Xbox Softmodding Tool is the one of choice now. Kids/noobs + softmod without protection = bricked Xbox. Its one of the reasons Heimdall created HeXEn, another popular modding tool set with built in default protection and, later, Rocky5's XBSMT likewise comes with even better protection. You might like to look at his XBMC4Kids too - could be tailor made for your purposes.

It is the one annoying thing about SID/AID that the clock will not keep and date past June 2020. I think the 20th to be precise. On reboot or restart no matter what the charge state of the clock capacitor it will revert to the original date. I bet if you change the year to 2019 the date problem will disappear. If it does then what I've described is the problem. No solution unfortunately except either fit a chip or TSOP and use a BIOS that doesn't do the clock check or change the softmod (I refuse to call it an upgrade) to Rocky5's XBSMT which addresses the problem. Alternatively do what you've done and set the year to any other pre-2020 or just ignore it. SID/AID is still as good to use as it always has been otherwise. BTW you should open up the case and check the clock capacitors and the others too. If there is any sign of bulging or leakage they should be replaced. It being a v1.6 your Xbox is less likely to have any problem with the clock cap but it is still sensible to check.
-
That's a useful list thanks. Yes, I'm not surprised it is dependent on the softmod what the boot priority and paths are supported. I would suspect the ones I quoted are for SID/AID (C:\ and E:\ locations) which were the primary modding tools of choice before Rocky5 created his softmod.

Wish I could have edited that ^ so sorry to double post but I found this was actually relevant and has some helpful pics and info, particularly in regard to the Shortcut Maker. The link to a pre-made shortcut works too but as I said above its specifically for the default name and location used by the Shortcut Maker and should not be used if your path/name is different, which it very likely will be.

Updating UnleashX is a simple and relatively safe matter and that's the sad thing - chances are the main dash the softmodded Xbox had has now been rendered unbootable or removed entirely. All that was needed was to replace the main dash XBE with a v0.39 one. But first you needed to know exactly what path your main dash was using and the XBE name being used. Secondly never to do this directly by FTP, its Russian roulette. Unless there is no other solution always FTP to a temporary folder first. Rename it to default.xbe or something different from what your existing main dash XBE is called. This is the published boot priority order:- avalaunch.xbe unleashx.xbe xbmc.xbe evoxdash.xbe xboxdash.xbe default.xbe msdash.xbe I've never tested it but this is what I was told and the Xbox wiki says are the XBE names softmods look for. Test that it actually works from the temporary folder using the UnleashX file manager. If all OK copy the XBE into its correct location alongside the existing main dash XBE. This is the only dangerous part: carefully rename the existing main dash XBE to one of those other names and rename the new one to exactly the same name as was being used by the other .XBE. Job done. How to fix the current problem:- You should have the game exploits used to softmod the Xbox still available so if you cold boot the appropriate original game getting to an installer dash should mean any easy fix. Maybe the softmod isn't gone and it will cold boot and installer disc like AID or HeXEn. Worth a try. Otherwise, whilst Lenox is completely wrong about how to update UnleashX, softmod or not, the hotswap, if you can get it to work, is your next best bet unless you had the foresight to backup the eeprom to your PC. In which case there are other options.

If you're doing the shortcut thing you do need to find the Xbox's Short Cut Maker PC tool to be able to create the shortcut. By default the tool is set up for XBMC "e:\apps\Xbox Media Center\default.xbe" you must make sure to put in the correct path that you are actually using which will more likely be E:\Apps\XBMC\default.xbe. You can usually leave the pre-selected shortcut ID box as it is "FEFEFEFE" but note that if you want to change it because it conflicts with an existing UDATA/TDATA ID it must be 8 characters made up of 0 - 9 numbers and/or A - F letters. When changing a main dash XBE for a shortcut XBE: always test the shortcut works first before replacing the existing main dash for real. A C:\evoxdash.xbe main dash will not be there with most softmods, it'll be E:\evoxdash.xbe so check your UnleashX system settings to see what path your main dash uses. If it is a hardmod of some sort it will likely be C:\evoxdash.xbe but even that should be checked first.

Its petty obvious from this thread and others I've seen across a range of Xbox forums over the years that chips do not come with adequate info. The posters would not be having to ask these sorts of questions if they were. Of course the info is out there but you do need to go looking for it not knowing if you're going to find the answer to your question. Ergo its easier to ask the question in a well populated forum like this as you'll get the answer quicker and probably a whole load of other useful info too.

I assume Open Xenium does not come with instructions then because something like that would seem rather important to know. Looking at that menu I'd see the Disk Tools option and think that meant it would at least boot a burned installer disc. Apparently not - its referring only to HDD tools. If this is still the latest manual then somebody needs to re-write it to bring it up to date. The very first item should be a noob friendly guide to getting started and how to install a good basic BIOS like Evox M8+ with larger HDD support in nice, clear easy steps so you can actually use the chip. Kind of fundamental for practically............everything. Most users probably wouldn't need anything more than this. Just found this which is older but much, much better:- https://www.docdroid.net/kHVCf1v/xenium-total-noobs-guide-cap269-pdf

Yes, that appears to be correct. I've just tested it on my one XBMC main dash machine (softmod) , which I did not have any games installed on until now (used primarily for music, videos etc). Indeed whatever fan settings you use for XBMC when a game launches it reverts to default 20% (x1). I always thought that was an UnleashX main dash thing and assumed it was because I was using XBMC just as an app and it was using the main dash settings for games. Never thought to test it. So another BIOS controlled matter; interesting.
-
I do not know the Xenium but surely if the OP wants HeXEn to boot so he can install a BIOS and a dash all he has to do is cold boot a HeXEn disc. It should be burned on DVD-R using ImgBurn at lowest supported speed. HeXEn boots slowly - there is generally a 20 - 30 second delay.

Weird Thing Happened When Trying To Ftp Games To My New Hdd.
HDShadow replied to bulkchart32's topic in Repair
Sorry I can't work out where the use of XBPartitioner v1.1 comes into this. In the linked video the guy uses XBPartitioner v1.3 both times. Its a weird glitch I'd not read about before - is it BIOS related or just a general 2TB HDD issue? What happens if you use Chimp 261812's extended partitioning tool - same problem? -
I think you really want to be using XBMC as your main dash to do what you want. UnleashX sets a static speed (x1 to x5 in 0.5 increments) with a thermal limit you can set when a higher fan speed will kick in. With XBMC it can be set up like that too but you also have the option of auto temperature control which will constantly adjust the fan speed depending on the temperature. You can set a target temperature and a lower fan speed limit too ie. under 20% (x1) so that if the system does not need cooling the fan speed can drop to say 10% or even less. Keeps it quiet but I find fan speed changes more annoying than constant speed so as 20%(x1) is effective in a temperate climate with high ambient temperatures rarely exceeding 30°C that's what I use most of the year on all dashes. I only push it up to x2 on hot summer days.

Not true ^. The game saves install are enough you do not need to create a profile before doing that. Just running the game creates UDATA and TDATA folders and all you'd be doing in copying in the installer/exploit game saves is over-writing the profile you just made, so pointless. In fact it is usually recommended to delete any previous SC saves before install the softmod ones.

^ In theory yes, good method, but in my experience even flash drives which work 99% of the time for transferring anything to a Xbox have issues when being written to by a Xbox. On PC with Xplorer360 I rarely get any problems writing to any of my most used 4GB Sandisk Cruzer Blade USB 2.0 flash drives (I have three). I rarely have any problems transferring that stuff to the Xbox. But doing the reverse - anything big with lost of small files or occasionally just a large game save I'm trying to backup to the flash drive the copy will fail, occasionally multiple times. You have to shutdown and restart each time and then, as if my magic, it'll suddenly copy without any problem. Go figure.

I had a similar problem and it happened to be when using Rocky5's SC game save exploits too. But I do not think it had anything to do with that. This and similar problems have been reported for years using other SC softmod installer packages when you click on Checkpoints. Either it goes to black screen, a white screen or the console reboots which means with a disc in the tray SC reboots. Just as SS_Dave suggested the way I resolved it was to use 007 AUF installer/exploit game saves instead. My own theory (pure guesswork), impossible to test AFAIK, is that when you delete the SC saves to try again it leaves something behind, possibly something in the TDATA folder or perhaps something cached on E:\ or X:\ or Y:\ or Z:\. You cannot remove that pre-softmod or at least pre-being able to launch an installer dash. What it does suggest is that either someone had tried to softmod it at an earlier date or one of your unluckily unsuccessful attempts did the same thing.

There are basically three ways Xbox games are provided for download: zipped XISO, zipped extracted files and the relatively new boy on the block zipped full disc image dumps. After unzipping/unRARing or whatever:- XISO: just burn to DVD-R using ImgBurn at lowest supported speed - always works unless there is a media or PC burner fault. You can also extract the files from the XISO using C Xbox Tool or Qwix and FTP them to the Xbox. Extracted files: FTP them or do the reverse of the latter ie. use C Xbox Tool or Qwix to create an XISO. Image Dump: as Ging3rGuy said use XDVDMulleter to extract the files. Then do as for the above. Only hassle with this route is that you need a lot of free space and a fast-ish internet connection as most of the image dumps are just under 6GB, they unzip to 7+GB before you use XDVDMulleter. You don't really want to delete those until you're certain the XISO you've made works.

But has Kink43 actually done that wrong? His alternative D0 point ground connection to the nearest screw plate looks good to me and is recommended for all versions isn't it? Many guides including the Aladdin chips own one specifically mention problems when using the chip's D0 pad and say you should use that alternative method instead.

The important thing is the thread pitch and diameter and that I do no know. By luck I have my one Thomson drive out at the moment and I've looked at those screws and indeed they do appear to be an obscure type. This is what I can say for sure: they have a Torx 10 rounded head of some sort. I do not have a screw pitch gauge but using a steel rule the screw thread length appears to be 3/16 on an inch, approximately 5mm. They are not M3 (metric) and they are also not 6-32 (UNC) the two commonest screw thread types used in PCs and similar equipment. I know because I've tested the screw holes with both types and the diameter is to big. Also I'm fairly sure they're not the other common (UNC) type: 4-40 either. The diameter could be correct but I have MB standoffs which I think are 4-40 and they do look to have a similar thread diameter. However the thread pitch is definitely not the same. They do not fit and looking at the pitch under a x8 lupe the 4-40 thread is much finer. The Thomson screws are clearly coarser pitch. They may be either M2.5 or M2 course pitch or some UNC equivalent but that is pure speculation. Sorry I can not be more help.

Does Anyone Have a Collection of XBox UnleashX Skins They Could Spare?
HDShadow replied to Trove-G's topic in UnleashX Skins
The last version of UnleashX: v584 is supposed to work with zipped skins but it usually doesn't. I may be imagining this but I think I remember Rocky5 mentioned something about that once a long time ago and a place far, far away so maybe his XBSMT UnleashX v584 dash has the problem fixed. -
Isopropyl alcohol might be easy to get in the US but in the UK I've never seen it being sold over the counter. Possibly you'd get rubbing alcohol at the local chemist/drug store but for lab grade its Ebay or direct sellers on online. Some electronic component supply companies sell it. The only thing you might get in a hardware store here is methylated spirits (ethanol 95% denatured by methyl alcohol 5%). That should not be used for electronics cleaning because it is actually a more powerful solvent and will damage the lacquer and any printed lettering used on a PCB.

That advice to wait for the disc drive to go to sleep for 5 minutes was never correct. Initially when the Xbox boots it checks for a disc but it shouldn't be doing anything when launching an installed version of Chimp. Better this straight from the horse's mouth. In fact it is slightly out of date as the later v1.01 Chimp Loader includes a cable swap prompt screen before it launches the main Chimp menu. I know some US guys have complained they have difficulty with Rocky5's Scottish accent but what he's doing is clear on screen so it shouldn't be a big issue to most.
