  1. Do you know why the 1 GHz apparently can hit much lower FSB limits? They 1.0 and 1.4 GHz processors are both from the same process. With my limited knowledge FSB limits should be roughly the same. Can it be that the 1 GHz is basically an undervolted 1.4GHz? Xan we actually play with the voltages?
  2. @Donnie-BurgerReally interested to learn your findings as a fresh 1.4ghz owner. According to the specs the lowest FSB speed is 100 MHz which supports the statement of @1ghzowner. However also found a topic here were someone commented that he managed to lower the FSB to 70. Another person commented he couldn’t get it lower the 98.
  3. Where are you shipping from?
  4. Picked up a 1.4 GHz xbox @zzattack. It was a 45 min drive for me and although shipping is cheaper with current gas prices it was still nice to meat a forum member in person. First of all , super impressed with his lab. Equipment I could only dream about, but honestly I wouldn’t know how to use half of it anyway ;). The upgrade itself was nicely done. Haven’t been in the opportunity to properly test the new XBOX myself. Now have to make a plan on how to turn into the ultimate XBOX. New case (crystal), openxenium modchip, 2 bioses with a 733 Mhz version on the 2nd bank, SSD (probably 2 TB) loaded wit a shitload of patched games both 720p and of course 1400 mhz where possible and an ogx360. It’s a long term project, in the meantime I can give some love to my 1.6 XBOX.
  5. Is there a feature that you want from the latest Bios/dash? Or you just want to have the latest because you can? There are different dashes and BIOS’s available. There isn’t something like the latest version, just different “latest” versions with different features. Installing new BIOS makes sense if you plan to use certain features of that BIOS. a few examples: - LBA48 (bigger HD support then 137 GB, up to 16 TB depending on BIOS) - UDMA5 support, only useful when your SATA2IDE adapter supports higher UDMA standard (larger HD bandwidth) - Makemhz HDMI, only useful if you have the MakeMHZ HDMI installed -128mb RAM support, need to install extra RAM modules.. there are probably more features available but then you get very specific versions. Regarding the dash it is a little bit simpler, it boils down to your preference. You are now using EvoX with slayer skin. The standard EvoX is just a more basic design, same for UnleashX. There are different skins available for those dashes. There a few different XBMC versions, tailored to the use case. XBMC4gamers is hands down the most modern looking with a lot nice features. I would say, use google to see what you like. I usually install everything using a burned DVD with ogXBOX installer 2021, very easy to use and handy if you like to test multiple dashes and Bios versions. It is possible to install using FTP as well, but it requires more prep work to find all the files etc… I don’t know the exact details, bit there are guides available on the internet Hete are 2 forum topics on the OGXBOX installer and the BIOS flasher. The latter contains BIOS withe full LBA48 and UDMA5 BIOS versions.
  6. The modchip is an Aladdin modchip. These are quite recent. Big question is what you plan to do with it. You could install a new bios, bigger HD, install new dashboard etc… or just put a game in the DVD drive and just play games
  7. @prtscnbuying a good CMR HDD while you have a SSD lying around is literally a waist of money For the rest it’s indeed debatable whether an SSD is worth the extra cost. You get a slight load time improvement in certain games on UDMA2. It’s unclear whether UDMA5 give a bigger improvement, in theory it might, but the gain is again seconds.
  8. Running it from disc did not solve the problem, so decided to test a different outfit. This solved the trick. Happy that I don’t need to start all over
  9. I’ve been playing Fable TLC the last few days and ran into a very annoying problem. The game crashes when I move from Bowerstone quay and Bowerstone south. It gets stuck on the loadscreen. First time this happened was the day before yesterday after picking up the blue mushroom potion from the witch, lost about an hour of progress. It reminded me again that we’ve got a lot of QoL improvements over the years like regular autosave :D. Loaded an earlier save yesterday to try again, messed around for about an hour. Actually managed to get the potion successfully this time so thought everything was fine until I went back there for another quest and now I’m stuck in because my last save game and autosave are from Bowerstone quay and every time I move back to Bowerstone south the game gets stuck again on the same loading screen. Google didn’t show any known issues with this other then a few people running into other crashes that might be savegame related. I’m playing the game from HD. I could try running the game from disc, but I’m afraid I have to start from scratch again. Are there things I could try to recover like an old save file or hack the save file to get to an earlier stage?
  10. Don’t want to derail the discussion, but is there any added benefit in changing the sticks to the x360? Reason I’m asking is that the standard sticks have a very big dead zone and have a small range as a consequence. They sometimes feel more digital then analogue especially if I compare it to my PS5.
  11. I actually bought a modded x360 component cable from ebay to use on my xbox with the retrotink. The original stuff is too expensive, not to mention that we did nog get an HD scart alternative in Europe. Component was quite rare back in the day in Europe. Anyway, personally I would keep it. But I have a use for it with my upscaler. If you can’t use the cable and have no plans and aren’t a collector I would just sell it. Take the money and buy another xbox. I would first try to repair the current XBOX off course.
  12. I don’t think CERBIOS supports the HDMI output, so your limited to EvoX. There are versions available with 128mb, hdmi, extended storage and UDMA5. For the last one you need the right IDE2SATA adapter + 80 wire IDE cable. you can find the bios here:
  13. @VanishedPants You can easily find the makemhz with openxenium on different webshops. Castlemania does not have the XBOX 1.6 version in stock but others do. I would skip the alladin modchips, the current version on the market cannot be flashed while installed. I don't which other option are still available.
  14. @nerdbombingyes, the limitation comes from the hard disk formatting. FATx has a limitation on the filename length. I think same limitation applies to fat16 and 32. DVD has a longer filename limitation. workaround could be to use XISO’s for these games
  15. Not sure why, but I found that it sometimes helps to use a different dash. For example Beyond good & evil has part of the left side of the image copied to the right side, JSRF has distorted image etc... These problems happen on UnleashX dash but on EvoX there is no problem. Not sure why this is happening
  16. did you also try the games with your XBOX on PAL (switch with enigmah)? Also do you have the same dashboards installed on both consoles?
  17. Once every 6 months should be sufficient. What I understood is that data corruption becomes a risk after 1 year without power. So you should be save with 6 months. You only need to power on the xbox, but I would advice you to also play games. It has no impact on the SSD, merely for your own fun Currently XBOX uses UDMA2, this means that the data transfer speed is limited to 33 MB/s. The HW of the xbox does support up to UDMA5 (100MB/s) with the exception of the IDE cable. Recently a new BIOS was released unlocking UDMA5. You need an 80 wire IDE cable and a IDE-SATA adapter thats supports UDMA5. The startech adapter definitely does, other brands might support it but can also be UDMA3 or 4. At the moment both cerbios and evoX (titan) support udma 3 and up. One note, although bandwidth increases by 3x, it doesn’t mean your loadtimes decrease by 3x. It seems to be fully game depended and different nr are going around. I at least noticed mafia loadtime to decrease with 50% (from 10 to 5 secs)
  18. Although a HDD speed is higher the the bus and thus extra speed on paper shouldn’t matter, in reality it does. It shaves of a few seconds depending on the game https://www.retrorgb.com/og-xbox-storage-upgrade-shootout.html nothing world shocking . Combine this with an UDMA5 bios and you give your XBOX a nice speed boost. One thing to note is that SSDs do need to be powered on from time to time, otherwise they’ll start to lose data
  19. @PolzyFTW first of all, don’t worry! Your games and emulators should still be on the XBOX, might be that the xbmc4gamers dashboard got removed. Do you boot from the modchip? 1.6 xbox uses a modchip, typically pushing power button boots the alternate dashboard and eject button the default dashboard (or other way around). So that would be the first check. If it still boots to original dash, just install your preferred dash back with ogxbox installer or hexen. Download linkscsn be found on this site. Burn the img to a DVD r using imgburn. I’m not familiar with hexen, but ogxbox installer is pretty self explanatory.
  20. I’m planning to build OGX360 with 2 port usb design from@Ryzee119. Biggest struggle was finding the usb hub controller without overpaying 100x and without shipping time of + 1 year. Luckily found one on ebay. Now it should almost be parts complete at mouser (after 8 months waiting) and cost is 60-70 euro per board for 2 players.
  21. Decided today to install the Titan patch which turned out to be a lot more work then intended. First problem was that the freshly installed dash after formatting would nog load properly, it could also no longer boot from disc for some reason. So reformatting it is. Afterwards I was not able to install the new titan bios (or s as no other bios for that matter). It would fail on the step were it extracts the bios zip file and copy it to the HD. Looks like a similar issue as @futurepr0n reported earlier. Manually copying the bios did the trick in the end. Now for the performance improvement, I did not benchmark a lot of games. But Mafia at least went from 10 secs loading to the taxi driver mission down to 4 secs. So that at least has a huge improvement. Small sidenote is that the game is now on 480i iso 480p.
  22. 20% improvement on loading time is always a plus in my book;) But I realized I did not do enough research. IGR is missing and I forgot I have 2 partitions. So 2 reasons to wait for a later release of bios.
  23. @oysterjetski I have exactly the same question. I would love to install titan m8+ to enable udma5. But it is not fully clear if I would need to format my HD. There are a few people commenting this, but it is not clear to me why. Is this due to the larger sector size?
  24. I’m not here to get advice on the cheapest way to run psx games . I was merely interested whether the XBOX could emulate them well and if you’d need to make some modifications. I have no intention to do this anyway, but I know that the xbox struggles with N64 emulation. And since this is the same gen as PSX I was wondering if it would be the same for PSX games as well. Cheapest solution is to buy a PS2 phat anyway, they are roughly the same price and it can play both PSX and PS2 games without emulation
