Wobbly Video From 1.0 XBox. Running Out of Ideas On What Could Be Wrong.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! This is my first post, so apologies if it’s formatted incorrectly. I’m currently having a tough time trying to diagnose what could be causing my Xbox to output a wobbly video signal as seen here.

I’ve tried

-swapping power supplies

-replacing the 5 caps near the cpu

-giving the board and console a deep clean

I’m thinking maybe it’s a grounding issue? Or perhaps the video encoding chip is about to die? Honestly I’m at a loss. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you guys.

Hey guys! Thank you both for the suggestions. I ended up trying to reflow the av connector, no dice. Triple checked resolutions too. At this point I just began replacing caps and testing after each. This fixed the issue, although none of them look buldged and I don’t see any leakage.

These are the caps I swapped. Thanks again for the help guys. I’ve only gotten into the original Xbox and soldering this past month, and I’ve been having a blast. This community is amazing!

Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

that pic doesn't look like one of the ones behind the gpu. didn't he say he changed the ones behind the gpu and it didn't fix it?

Hey all, I recently ordered a 1.0 motherboard and hdd off of ebay and went to mod it.  Before modding, I booted them up and found them to be working properly.  The clock cap was leaking bad so I replaced that.  I soldered up the pin header to the LPC, connected a wire to the D0 pad and routed that to the Open Xenium I have, and went to boot it up.  I'm greeted with a solid red LED on the modchip, and the xbox booting up into the normal bios.  Attempting to boot into XeniumOS by pressing the eject button yields the same results.  This modchip did originally come out of a 1.6, flashed with Evox M8+ 1.6.
Just to rule out the modchip going bad on me, I wired it back up into the 1.6 and it booted perfectly.  I threw an Aladdin chip, that's also flashed with Evox M8+ 1.6, into the 1.0 also, and it will not boot into custom bios either.  I've reflowed my joints multiple times, and my D0 solder job is good (I believe lol), so I'm really not sure what's going on.  Any tips would be greatly appreciated.  LPC solder joints have been reflowed like 4 times so they look bad lol, forgive me.

Hello, so i bought a modded xbox off someone and instantly started messing. I booted up rocky5s dashboard and liked it, i followed a guide to get it to boot into rocky5s dashboard on start up but i clearly did something wrong and replaced the wrong file as it reset and then im stuck on a bootup loop. It goes as far as saying evox in the top left and then resets so i have no time to get into ftp and restore what i did.
Could anyone advise me what to do please. As i said i bought if off someone so i didnt mod it myself
       Thanks

DHCP, PC and Xbox are wired ethernet. All devices in the same room. Basically one day it was fine and the next it wasn't. Its so strange. When I ftp to any xbox from my PC, it maxes out around 1mb on FlashFXP. I have tried from Linux using a different client. Also tried 3 different windows clients. I changed out modems and ethernet NIC. If I setup an FTP from one xbox to another, the speeds between them are great/normal like 11mb. I can take files FROM the xboxs to my PC at the same speed. This is not simply just a 1 xbox issue if you cant tell. Any xbox I hook up, same shit happens. I tried 3 different dashboards. Tried different HDDs obv. The only thing I can think of is around the time this started happening, I did the forza multiple screen thing through DHCP. However my setup has completely changed since then, and new xboxs too. I am really lost on what this could be. I feel like i have covered every single base, but problem persists. This has happened to me in the past and 2 things fixed it. One time, I changed the ethernet cable. Tried that this time, didn't work. It specifically happened after a windows update way back so i reverted to an old version and that fixed it. However trying linux I feel has ruled that out. /shrug
