    i tend to leave this xbox on a lot lately for days without a power cycle. it has this annoying problem where it will randomly be frozen on the homescreen when i want to use it and i have to get up and power cycle it. it comes back on fine and doesn't have any issue until the next time it freezes. there seems to be no ryhme or reason to when or why it freezes. what could be causing it? it has the open xenuim chip and i am booting the evox bios. it also has a 3 tb seagate barracuda 5400rpm hdd in it with the starlink adapter. it also has a 80 wire ide cable that chimeric used to sell. it is running the 1.300v of xbmc4gamers. everything else is stock.

    u can't swap drives like that with insignia unless u have cloned them so they have the original hdd key that u registered the xbox with.

    it's really cool. they are still sending out invite codes if u request one. it works on stock, softmodded, and hard modded xbox's. the player base is dwindling because people think there aren't enough players and that is a self defeating problem. the service works really well and they add new games to it often. also, join the discord server https://discord.gg/CWkdVdc

    use chimp to clone your current drive to the new bigger one. i have tried this on a softmodded xbox and it works perfectly with an insignia ready xbox. u will keep the same key. put your old hdd in a safe place in case your new drive fails and u need to clone it to another one or u will have to hardmod your xbox in the event of hdd failure. it's actually best not to null your key for several reasons. also use a tool to back up the hdd key so u have 2 ways of rescuing your xbox in case of hdd failure.

    btw, u are actually the one i learned from that it's best to leave them alone about 2 years ago. u and kaosengineer are the 2 main ones i pay attention to in this forum and advise other people to also when i recommend this place to them.

    i did have to use a pry tool on all of the clamps i have removed. but u have to be super gentle.

    heat is the correct method. it's still best to leave it alone though. just blow the dust off of it.

    completely agree! the best method i found for removing it safely is to disconnect everything from the motherboard except the power button and power supply. power on the system and wait for it to shut itself off. do that 2 more times for a total of 3. the heat sink be warm enough to wiggle and come off by hand. learned that from another youtube channel a while back. it's best to leave it alone though unless there is some need for it. that thermal glue still works amazingly well even though it is really old now.

    i've seen some bad info out there for noobs trying to mod a xbox for the first time. the 2 main ones are to null or modify your hdd key(without disclosing any of the dangers) instead of just keeping the old hdd as a backup to create another drive if needed and the 2nd one is to pry the gpu heat sink off. please don't do this, especially on a xbox that has sentimental value to u. this is a good way to ruin it. we really need to start being more careful what we tell noobs to do. i know my original xbox has a lot of sentimental value to me because it still has the game saves from where i used to go to lan parties with it back in the mid 2000's. i'd be heart broken if one of these guides caused me to ruin it. many other would probably feel the same way about theirs.

    does this actually still work after launching a xbox game? plenty of them have frame drops and i have been wanting to oc for a while.

    i have hard modded a 1.4 and 1.6 xbox. xbmc4gamers is my login screen. when i ftp to 1.4 while xbmc4gamers is loaded, i get great speeds in the mb's. when i ftp to 1.6 with xbmc4gamers loaded, i don't even get speeds over 500 kip's. i am also having network issues in game. unleashX seems to ftp great though. can anyone tell me what is going on? i'm running the same evo8 bios on both systems btu different chips.

    i have 2 hard modded xbox's. i just fired up the 2nd one after many months of none use. it has one of the aladin clone modchip's and the evo8 bios. i have it set to show the stock xbox start up flubber and X screen just like a stock xbox startup screen. when it goes to the X, it has a lot of silver in it. the machine seems to be working perfectly other than that. what would cause this and is it anything to be concerned about? everything was working perfectly from the push of the power button till i shut it down before i let it sit for months. it is a v1.6 xbox btw.

    turns out it didn't like something about the static ip settings. switched to dchp and it seems to have fixed the problem. now, i gotta find a v.1.300 of xbmc4gamers

    the only dashboard it will connect to is evoX and it doesn't transfer well. the file ftp transfer keeps freezing and then asking if i want to overwrite a file. it's never done this to me before. any idea what is going on?

    it's set for static. i also tried avalanch and it wouldn't connect either. this is weird.

    i just went to the file manager and clicked the .xbe of another dashboard. i think it was evo but don't remember 100% sure. i 1st tried unleashX but the filezilla kept saying the server(my xbox) wouldn't let it connect. i have the modified bios set to open the .xbe in xbmc4gamers. i deleted the old xbmc4gamers folder and ftp'd over the other one to the same spot. i checked and it did appear to have a .xbe in it even though filezilla said it failed to transfer. update: i booted with cerbios into unleashX. filezilla is still still refusing to connect unleashX. what in the world is going on here? it's never done this before. i did get a new netgear blackhawk router since the last time i remember trying to ftp anything. could that be part of it?

    i switched to another dashboard and then used filezilla to delete xbmc4gamers from the apps folder on E drive. i then tried to ftp over another version of xbmc4gamers that i found on my pc. several of the files kept failing to transfer but it appeared to have the important ones so i rebooted the xbox to see what it would do. it now boots to the stock MS dashboard. what's going on and what should i do? i have an open xenuim mod chip with another bios on it that opens another dashboard. so getting it to boot into a modded dash should not be a problem but what do i do once i get it booted and get the ftp client connected again?
