C64MidRezzie
I have a dvd drive that reads disks but crashes because the board is faulty - can I take a working board from a dvd drive with a laser that doesn't read disks? And If so is it pretty easy to do - any guides? Thanks
SS_Dave
Yep you can swap the PCB's as long as same make and model DVD's or at least the same laser part number. A word of caution as the laser pickup can be static sensitive so some caution when handling them (disconecting and reconecting). Normaly you should put a blob of solder on the protect pads DVD has two CD has only one before disconecting it and then remove the solder when it's reconected but I normaly don't bother. laser protect pad's While you have it apart clean the lens use a cotton bud moistened wuth isprinol alcohol Laser lens Cheers SS Dave
