OGXbox Cerbios Installation Issues

So, I got a modded Xbox off of a friend a few years back. It's been collecting dust on a shelf while i was modding 360s and messing with other things.

Some console info:

Motherboard Revision: 1.0

Kernel Version: 1.0.3944.1

TSOP Chip: ST-M29F080A

In January i decided to play around with it and upgraded its mod with Rocky5s Softmodding Tool, although i had to use the Hardmod method show in MrMario2011s guide. I decided I want to hardmod the system and TSOP Flash rather than run the softmod.

While digging through the file explorer on XBMC i found evidence of SmartXX which a google search turned up a modchip. So, I took to r/originalxbox and thanks to the help of @KaosEngineerfound that it must be a softmodded system and I'm good to flash the TSOP. I went on to download and burn a DVD-R with Bios Checker and burned another with the .iso file found in the download of "OGXbox Cerbios Disc v2.3.2". I bridged the R7D3 points on the top of the board and the R7R3 points on the back of the board, reassembled and popped on bios checker to get the info. I then popped in the OGXbox Cerbios v2.3.2. Once the disc launched, I read through the "Read Me" files on my PC and on the disc.

After reading, I selected the following options:

"Cerbios Disc - Static IP & No BFM Mode" --> "Flash Cerbios with XBlastOS" --> "Flash Cerbios UDMA2" --> "Flash Cerbios UDMA2 256KB"

Once in XBlastOS I chose "Boot Onboard Bios". No dice... So, I copied/unpacked a clean .ini to my C partition, ran through the steps again and got to XBlastOS. This time I went to settings and saw Flash options.

I selected:

"HDD Flash" which gave me "C:\BIOS does not exist.'

So, I tried:

"CD Flash" which gave me "insert a disc with an img.bin file."

I can't figure what step I'm missing or what I'm doing wrong here. Am I supposed to burn both the .ISO and .RAR files to the DVD-R rather than only the .ISO? OR am I missing something else entirely? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

To do the HDD Flash, you need to create the BIOS folder on the real C drive of a softmodded console.  If you softmodding using Rocky5's Xbox Softmodding Tool, run NKPatcher Settings then FTP to the console to have access to the real C drive to create the BIOS subfolder and upload the bios's .bin file to.

Thanks you for your reply. After battling to get a FTP connection with patcher, I managed to get the Cerbios U2 256kb .bin file ready to go. I can’t seem to create a BIOS subfolder in the real C drive though. It’s as if I have no permission to change anything in there. Any ideas? If I can’t get that going I think I’m going to give the Net Flash option a try on XBlastOS.

Im also a bit concerned that I’ll have boot issues after this due to the hardmod and softmod not wanting to coexist. If that were to happen, what steps do I take then?

Again, thank you for your reply and your knowledge

Cerbios Installer disc has options to clean up your HDD. It basically has every solution under the sun so it most likely has the option to remove softmod footprints also. It’s been a long time since I’ve needed to do that so give it a look and see.

Okay thank you

Every time I try to create a BIOS subfolder in C it automatically deletes and takes me to the pre existing subfolder in C called bios which has an already existing bios .bin in it. Do you happen to know what to do about this?

That is the folder you want to put the bios files in and that bios.bin file is how you run Cerbios.

So I should put the Cerbios.bin in there alongside the bios.bin and head on into XBlast?

excuse my barrage of questions, I just know the real C drive is something to be careful about poking around in

If you can, backup the bios.bin that’s in there already to your pc or another folder on your E drive. Then replace it with the new one you’re trying to flash. Also renaming the new file, “bios.bin”. Try to flash from HDD again.

If this still does not work, then create the folder as it tells you to name it in the all CAPS, “BIOS”

I think what is happening (and @KaosEngineer mentioned this) is that since you are still booting a softmod setup, you are booting with a "Shadow" C partition. Even though you are hardmodded, I think your chip's bios is still booting the exploited/shortcut xboxdash.xbe (because no other dash files are present on E, so it defaults to the stock dashboard) on your REAL C partition. The softmod runs the exploit and boots your modded dash with a fake C partition. You are creating the directory on what is not ACTUALLY your C partition and that is why you are not seeing it when XBlast looks to your REAL C partition.

What bios is currently on your modchip? if you are able to boot a disc, I would use the FTP feature, and backup anything you need on that HDD, then format it and install a modded dash (such as XBMC or UnleashX) as well as "set up C" which you should see as part of the main installer options. You will then boot from the E partition. However, to run the TSOP flash, you need to boot with the mod disabled and boot the official MS bios and dash. After that, you can either use the savegame exploit or the endgame exploit to TSOP flash Cerbios to your onboard TSOP flash.

Remember, if you're not booting from your TSOP, you will not have access to it in XBlast. Make sure that after your HDD is set up with an installer (including C), you are able to disable the SmartXX chip and boot your stock TSOP MS Bios with your new, un-softmodded MS dash files on C.

I cannot find instructions on how to boot with the mod disabled, so you may have to pull the chip off the pin header when you want to boot from your TSOP and run the TSOP flashing exploit(s).

Edit: Looks like you resolved this on reddit. Glad you sorted it out. For anybody wondering, this was solved using option 6 on the aforementioned Cerbios Disc "Option 6: Flash Cerbios (Softmod Users)"  after choosing the option to boot with BFM.

I recommend using netflash to ensure that you can easily flash the newest version of Cerbios.
