I have an unused 80GB 2.5" IDE HDD bought for an old laptop which died before I got around to fitting it. The problem or maybe not a problem is the 2.5" IDE to 3.5" IDE adapter. I've found what I think are suitable ones on Ebay/Amazon (F 2.5" with M 3.5" to connect to the IDE cable). But the thing I'm not sure about is the power supply. The ones I've found have a (F) Molex connector + cable but only wired with red and black cables. This I assume is 5v and ground ie. normal Molex power connections. Is this enough to power the 2.5" HDD? It should be but it got me thinking about why the Xbox HDD power supply has both 5v and 12v connections (red + ground and yellow + ground) if they're not both needed. If a standard 3.5" HDD in the Xbox needs more than 12v available perhaps a 2.5" HDD needs more than 5v too. Knowledgeable advice appreciated.

Hardmod is done on 1.6 but I still have the stock hard drive , should it be locked or is there something I need to do? I have recently install kixxx emulator but have it in apps in the boot dash that hexen installed as I don't see how to put in emulators folder. Works fine just wrong location, how do I move into emulators folder? Still learning how this file system all works.

Hello, I've just upgraded my hard drive. Added a 80-wire 40 pin and with a pata to sata adapter. It cloned just fine. I selected selective partition (C,e,f and g) as it stated G would take the rest of the space. It's a 500Gb hard drive. But.. It says partition G is 0Gb available.. And F is at 120Gb. But XBpartitioner 1.3 sees G at around 300Gb. So why isn't it available for me to use? But really F can take it all correct? So no need for G..? Okay, I disabled partition G and filled partition F with all it can have(it said 400Gb ish) and I wrote that to the disk with XBpartitioner 1.3. And now it says it only has 246Gb... Where did the rest go... I'm lost UPDATE: okay... UnleashX shows me under storage menu that is "sees" 469Gb ish.. But only available 246Gb... But the partition is empty??? Anyone got a clue?

my question is can you boot a softmodded xbox with the locked drive then run a hexen disc to build another drive

Hey, if I have an old Xbox hard drive from a softmod, that is locked, and I no longer have the Xbox, can I reuse it somehow still for anything? Like can I unlock it in windows and reformat?

Hey Guys; My DVD drive in my 1.5 xbox opens and closes no problem, but when i put a disc in to try and load i hear a loud grinding noise and the disc does not load. Does anyone know what i will need to do to repair this?

Hey everyone. I've been using a 500GB SATA laptop drive as my main hard drive for a few years now but it seems to be dying. I'd really like to hear your suggestions on what you find is the best quality or most cost effective drive you recommend. Do you use a 2.5 or 3.5 inch drive? Do you like standard, hybrid, or solid state drives? I was probably going to get one of these but if you know of something better, let me know. I like Seagate drives but am open to other brands you may find reliable. i was thinking today there are loads of ways to use old xbox drives in P, C.s so how come no one has written a simple script to wipe format and if needed build a C,F, of g drive on a computer it would make life so simple. just a thought.

Hello everyone my name is Jayson. I'm new to this forum and xbox modding. I hope someone can help me. Issue: I have a Original Xbox version 1.6B with aladin modchip. I installed a 500Gb Western Digital Blue sata HDD. I used Hexen 2019 to initialize the new hard drive. But the partition F: only shows 123 Gigabytes. I'm pretty sure that i set all the storage size to partition F:. While on Hexen interface, drive F: is 400+ gb. But when you remove the hexen disk and let it boot to xbox interface. It only shows 123GB. Anybody have an idea what going on? I also tried hexen 2018. But same issue occured. Thanks in advanced.

I have used xboxhdm23 beta by Rocky5 to create an xbox hdd from scrtach using the nulled eeprom from my xbox. The program also copied over the files for the c drive which in this case are the installer files for Rockys softmod. When i put the drive in the xbox and boot it up all i get is an error 13 (dash error), i have verified that the files are indeed in the c drive on the hdd but the installer (xboxdash.xbe) does not load. Have i done something wrong somewhere? Also, as the eeprom was nulled that was used to lock this drive, in theory this hdd should be able to be installed in any xbox with a nulled eeprom, is that correct??

I bought a 500gb Xbox fully loaded with origins dashboard and games - one game (GTA San Andreas) appears on “featured games” but when I press A the console resets - how do I delete it from appearing in “Featured Games” - or could I add the game somehow as I have the disk? Thanks

Hi - I have an unlocked SATA 500GB xbox drive that is nearly full with games, emulators and the like. I want to make a backup copy of the drive using Raw Copy - any advice or instructions on how to do this? I have a PC with a spare HDD slot and and an external drive caddy. Hey I was here about 8 months ago when I first got my modded flash xx chipped xbox. I installed a 500gb Hdd and it shows it as only 120gb any response would be appreciated, thanks!

I upgraded the HDD in my Xbox to a 320GB SATA using a SATA/IDE adapter and upgraded the cable to a 80 conductor. The Xbox is a v1.0 with a AladinXT modchip. BIOS is iND-BiOS 504.67 (F and G) installed from a Hexen 2019 DVD. I prepared the hard drive using Hexen 2019 and everything works ok except I cant adjust the partition sizes in xbpartitioner. If I understand it right the Extended partitions 6 and 7 in xbpartitioner is for partition F and G. How do I take the space from 7 (G) and give it all to 6 (F)? I tried pressing the A button (and every other button for that matter) and nothing happens. Do I need to change the BIOS to an F only version? if so the only iND-BiOS 504 in Hexen 2019 says force 480p..will that be a problem? thanks

I have a dvd drive that reads disks but crashes because the board is faulty - can I take a working board from a dvd drive with a laser that doesn't read disks? And If so is it pretty easy to do - any guides? Thanks

I recently got a green xbox and want to sell my old black xbox. I want to remove the 500GB sotmodded hard drive and replace it with the original 8GB. I know how to do that but I want to be able to use the 500GB drive in my Green xbox - how do I do this? I don't mind formatting the 500GB drive and starting afresh. I have an IDE PC if that's any use. Any help greatly appreciated

A friend of mine setup my softmodded xbox hard drive with emulators, games etc and a cool dashboard - I'm just wondering how to clone the drive in order to use it in my spare xbox - I can unlock the drive in HDM V1.9 and there seems to be an option to clone a hard drive in HMD V1.9 as well - anyone tried this or is there another way without TSOP or chipped console? Hi - I have a 500GB SATA drive upgrade complete with Startech SATA to IDE connector and 80 pin IDE cable. However, I still feel my 400 GB IDE xbox loads coin ops games quicker. I bought a new old stock 500GB IDE drive and now I want to clone my SATA drive to my IDE Drive. Is this possible? I could use Chimp or could I use HDM V1.9? I would Prefer to use HDM V1.9 but I'm not sure it would recognise a SATA drive even if it is connected using a Startech SATA to IDE - anyone shed any light on this? Thanks

I successfully created and locked a 500GB IDE Seagate Hard drive using HDM V1.9. I transferred it to my xbox and it gets stuck at the xbox splash screen at start up for ages and then goes to Error 13 - any ideas? (It can take 2-3 minutes for the word "Microsoft" to appear under the xbox splash). Thanks

I hace a 300gb IDE hard drive that I used in a sodtmodded Xbox back in the day - only realized this evening that it is locked and that I no longer have the Xbox I made it for - is there anyway to unlock it - I have softmodded xboxes lying around - would they help unlock it? Thanks

Hi - wasn't sure where to post this and thought I'd post it here seeing as you guys focus on cases. I'm looking for the front facia part that says "xbox" and attaches to the dvd drive drawer. I fixed a drive that I thought was unfixable with a new rubber band and a good cleaning with alcohol. Now I'd like to find a replacement part in the UK - anyone able to point me in the right direction - can't see them on ebay or amazon. I have an original black xbox so I need the part in black. These past few weeks have been a real voyage of rediscovery as I hadn't softmodded an xbox in years and the scene has changed so much - Rocky 5 was completely new to me. I was wondering how to go about installing XBMC on startup - which version is the best etc... Sorry for sounding like such a noob but this is all new to me again. I have coin ops, games and emulators like the Megadrive and Snes already installed. Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi - I ordered a Star Tech IDE to SATA connector and have a spare 500GB SATA drive - will the IDE cable in the xbox work as it is a 500GB drive or will I need to invest in a 80 Pin cable?

I have a few softmodded xbox consoles at this stage and I'm looking at buying hard drives to upgrade them. I'm wondering if SATA is slower than IDE even with the more expensive Startech SATA 2 IDE adapter? Is an SSD drive on a par with an IDE drive? Thanks

Hi - I have a choice between a Philips or Samsung DVD drive for my newly softmodded xbox - both read disks - which one is the better option as I have quite a large collection of games on disk and intend on copying as many as I can to my hard drive but at 260GB with Coin ops 8 massive on there and other emulators - the disk drive will definitely get some use.
