  1. So far the ram upgrade has been alot of good fun. XBMC makes a clear improvement in "multi tasking" so having video playing in the background while browsing files is no issue, music with visualization on main menu etc... no worry of crashing. Surreal64CE6.0 is really cool, you can set the paging memory on the emu cores to 0 because the entire rom can be loaded into RAM (instead of paging it to hdd) and the antialiasing is great, 4Xlinear no problem on most titles, cranked up the dynarec memory etc.... just trying to burn up as much ram as possible. i can get it to eat about 100mb during emulation. there are 0 issues in mame and final burn now. there a few games that would run out of ram when trying to load. now they run really well. king of fighters 2003 etc.... i havent developed a comprehensive list of whats better because its like pouring gas all over your spare time and lighting a match... ive been tired at work the past few days. LOL. A few lingering questions. I havent even tried an xbox game yet... but did find the ram de-limiter on x-bins. ill quickly discover whether or not they work before the de-limit but wondering if anyone has the answer for some reason (i havent tried every game) but conkers on surreal wont load. no matter which core or which video plugin, certain combinations have different results (one loads to black screen, one loads to white screen) but its just strange, and unnecessary because ive yet to play the re-master so this will help guide me in that direction. I cant seem to get CPX3 to load, it just hangs.... althought to be honest, ive never booted it as a standalone emu before, but i think it would show a marked improvement. cpx3 from my understanding also uses a similar paging feature to surreal and i believe an even more sophisticated version on SF3 titles. love my xbmc emustation (thanks guys) and this ram upgrade has made it alot more fun. you have to look at this from a hobbyist point of view. you arent going to double the ram and fix all your problems or fulfill all your desires. but it does expand an already expansive set of content. it does improve that content and allow for a bit better looking presentation. I 100% encourage this mod despite it being discouraged elsewhere. OHHH I FORGOT http://www.emuxtras.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=188&t=5278 This 128mb version of half life 1 ported to the xbox looks and feels awesome. super excited to spend a good solid 10 hours with this one sunday soon. (there is also a 64mb version which is just SMART) the gains from the ram upgrade are marginal, if you were a pc guy in the early 2000's it feels very similar to adding another 256mb ram to an xp machine. lol, its totally worth it!!! i think anyways... unless you have a bunch of other consoles you are focused on or other hobbies, personally the xbox is worth it and even has me looking at potentially acquiring the real deal N64freak board with the cpu upgrade.
  2. im assuming rocky5's softmod. checkout his xbmc4gamers... hes done a nice job 'cleaning up' xbmc for a gaming focused front end. also, with a little seraching you will find an excellent resource pack for that build which sends it into another dimension of awesome. alternatively you can install xbmc-emustation which seems to be getting his attention now. one nice thing about using his softmod is you just FTP the xbmc folder into the root of E drive and it will automatically boot it as a dash. http://www.ogxbox.com/forums/index.php?/forum/38-rocky5s-projects/ most of what im talking about should be here^^^ let me know, i'll try my best to help...
  3. Checkout the above thread, there is a ton of information there. It seems this may not be a chip worth wasting much time on given terrible software. Plus, do you have the switchbank/progammer port? http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/postt26542.html this guy built his own.!!!! omg. i'm not entirely sure what you can do with this chip.... but id assume you could flash it using Hexen boot disc? maybe not.... I installed an aladdin xt2plus (chinese knockoff i think) but it flashed EVOX M8+ bios to it using hexen and it worked rather well (5buckson ebayman) the install of this chip looks like it was done with care and i see Lframe trace is grounded Also there seems to be a wire soldered into the LPC on the top right pin hole which i believe is 3.3Volts, just wondering why. a few observations to consider i guess. maybe not. look for an earlier revision xbox and TSOP!!!

thanks for your response, can it be programmed via usb? very curious. this is a great mod
  5. whats your current boot configuration?
  6. i think im more frightened now that i tried it.
  7. Friday night i got home excited to try a ram upgrade have a perfect V1.1 in a crystal case, what could be better soft modded, unlocked the TSOP, flashed x25035 using hexen, swapped in a big sata drive/80wire ide/ installed XBMC as dash, smooth sailing... So i had purchased a set of chips from utsource about 4 weeks ago and when they got here i only had 3 chips... checked my invoice and realized i had ordered and paid for 3 chips... bummer So in haste i ordered 5 more from an ebay seller in the states... i had ordered K4D623238F-QC50 Got all 5 I installed 4 of them after the TSOP (in the same night) not realizing this is a 512K chip and the XBOX needs the 1M all the way up to the 4th i was getting orange and red flashing.... good sign, diligent with continuity tester on the 4th it was clear something was wrong... i went to bed frustrated with a few unknowns. Got back at it and installed the 3 utsource chips in place of the 512's, when i had all 3 in with 4 still being installed i realized at flashing orange and red the eject button would boot the X2 bios??? what sorcery is this. The ram wasnt being recognized but it prompted me to consider XBLAST (which i was vaguely aware of) seeing as i had access to HDD/FTP from dash https://bitbucket.org/psyko_chewbacca/lpcmod_os/downloads/ Found the xbe version, booted from XBMC and actually had a success on 1/4.. now im feeling ok. Re-flow the other 3 (XBLAST has a diagram entailing which chip is which so you can refrence their test screen) now i've got 3/4 testing positive. very excitedly I open up another xbox i use and harvest a chip (hell i can replace it another time!!!!) Well, the removal goes spotty at best and by the time ive lined up the pins and got the soldering done one of the corner pins breaks off while im trying to make a small adjustment.... angry i take it off the board.... lift a pad.... now you've ruined a wonderful console, and have 3 chips to remove and not enough supplies to outfit anything with an upgrade. remove yourself from the situation, breathe deep and take a nap. luck is funny. http://pdf.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheet/SamsungElectronic/mXxqxqv.pdf After examining the pinout of the chip i realized the center pins of the right and left side are named N.C..... what could that be? is it possible thats pin for the pad that lifted?? Ii find another datasheet that explains the definition of N.C as "reserved for future revisions" otherwise: This pin doesnt get used right now... WHAT!!?!?!?! Sure enough the lifted pad is N.C on the pinout diagram Just yonder a warm optimism drags me back into the basement. Now focused, rested, and caffeinated i go to work at harvesting another IC from the 1.4. a fantastic removal, straight pins and all. Get the chip down with no hiccups and wearily stare at that grey pin on a brown backdrop (lifted pad) all back together XBLAST reports 4 success' victory is sweet XBMC sees it, Virtual Cop 3 boots.... YES!!! Despite so many stupid mistakes it worked! But its not all roses i wasted 30 bucks on 5 ic's i will never use and also the fact my 1.4 is now in limbo. so i can either replace the 2 and call it a day..... or...... order 6 and spend another 12 hours hunched over a 17 year old game console..... i think i'll take the latter.

    1.6 Xbox

i can also vouch for the chip working, you are limited to 256k bios but ind5003 does work rather nicely. EDIT: did not use ind 5003, thank you kaosengineer, i used evox m8plus

ya you're right - once set it stays, i believe one of the skins shows 2 images at once insightful on the xbe side. thanks for the advice on cpx as well, i suppose thats where id also put videos.

-what are the chances you could map the black button to change the artwork type?... much like the preview function is live from game selection screen. A+++ - where are the xbe synopsis files? can i add them with your scripts? - Can i direct launch CPXiii like mame? Thank you very much for this Rocky5
  12. What are you looking to accomplish?
  13. ya there is a version of chimp elsewhere you should use http://www.theisozone.com/downloads/xbox/tools/chimp-2168/ ive had good results with that version and i think all the instructions are included http://www.theisozone.com/downloads/xbox/tools/chimp-2168/ this is what you need for formatting the added space on the new hdd (seeing as chimp clones the drive you need to create a new partition to leverage your new storage)

    Rubber Feet

cardinal sin aside... some days the case flys open 3 times on mine (for whatever reason) you've adapted a permanent solution. i actually kinda like it.
  15. Cool video about xbox development, i wonder what your thoughts are, and has anyone got more of this content to share? I'm curious about what PC ports exist and what may have been possible Just read through RandySlims post here, he has a good list of games... nice to run into 'digthatbox' again... its outside of my oxbox TUNNELVISION so i guess i forgot about it
  16. I bought the chips in haste and didnt realize i was buying 3 chips (32mbitsX4banks is 16MB) not 3 sets of 4.... make sure on that,. they are about 30 days from hongkong to north america. luckily there is a seller in US with F series samsung IC for reasonable price.
  17. admired collection. they really had something with that xecuter set.

    Rubber Feet

Case mods seems appropriate, but this applies to every xbox ever opened. The rubber feet are very nice to remain intact. whats everyone using to stick these back on, the factory stuff is perfect.

BANANAS YOU GUYS!!!! EDIT: I had to come back and just emphasize even more my enthusiasm over this shelf of yours... THOSE XECUTER BOXES WITH THE XTENDERS>>>> WUT!!!! MAD LAD. im done, thats 401k level stuff. hahahahaha i love seeing this!!!!
