  1. What happens if you power on the Xbox by pressing the Eject button? Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

Thanks Have you had a look inside to see what's made the loud popping sound? Capacitors by design will all fail as the electrolyte that makes up the capacitor drys out over time and even the SMD(Surface Mount Design) caps fail be it not as often but they still fail. In the version 1.6 if fit a modchip and then the clock set can skipped in the BIOS and the other versions can have the BIOS reflashed to bypass the clock set as well. 3. I think you looking at the wrong part. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  4. What has been done to the Xbox? Green/Red Flashing Problem: The Xbox will restart twice, and then flash red and green. This is known as the FRAG and can be caused by many reasons. Typically when you receive this error you will not have any video. Possible reasons you may get this is a bad bios image, a bad bios chip, the Nvidia MCPX chip is damaged, broken/damaged traces or solder splashes on the motherboard. Fix: If you were doing any kind of soldering work (adding a Modchip or other type of mod) on or around your motherboard, make sure there are no solder splashes or that there are not solder bridges connecting any traces. If there are, desolder them. If you have not done any kind of modding to the unit, then its likely to be caused from a bad tsop image, or a bad chip. Try installing a Modchip to see if you can get the unit to boot. If the Xbox still gives a FRAG then it means another major component is bad and the motherboard needs to be replaced. 5. Yes on R7D3 there is 2 small points the need to be soldered together and the same for R7R4 on the top. The Xbox will still boot as normal at this stage Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  6. Ok the wire I have circled in red needs to be removed from that point and extended so it can reach the other side of the board. And on bottom side you also need to add a link to R7R4 as marked On the top side of the board you need to add a link to R7D3 and the wire that has been extended from the bottom now gets soldered on the yellow dot. Now you can refit the board with 1 or 2 screws. The 2 links are to enable the TSOP chip to be flashed and the wire is from the D0 point and if the wire is soldered to the board the Xbox boots from the mod chip and with the wire disconnected it will boot from the on board BIOS. Next step Have you softmoded a Xbox before ? Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  7. Can you post a pic of the bottom as well Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  8. Just post a pic here of the main board. The BIOS checker app is a waste of time. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  9. Cutting the LFrame trace is up to you I tend to cut the trace then not worry about the D0/LFrame wire from the chip. The theory is that damage to the MCPX chip and or the Xyclops chip could happen if the Lframe is held low for to long, The Open Xenium mod chip will only pull the Lframe low for a short period when needed and the rest of the time it's not been controlled by the mod chip. 10. Red/orange can also be a be memory failure, Pin11 is a signal to the Xbox PSU to turn on 2.6 should be fine. Possibly give the main board a good clean with isopropyl and a toothbrush. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  11. If you can post some pic's of the board you are working on that would be good Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  12. I would resolder the chip and the TSOP enable points while the board is out of the case as it gives more room around the chip to work with your soldering iron. Then reassemble the Xbox and try deleting the contents of X,Y,Z drives and see if it come good. Then we can see about flashing the TSOP. 13. OK you just remove the cap in the red circle as it will not be doing it job any way and it can leak a corrosive liquid the will cause damage the the copper traces. This is from a Version 1.4 that was sent to me for repair because it would not power on at all because the copper traces had damage from the leaking cap. In this pic you can see it looks OK from the top but you can see the corrosion on the bottom of the cap. The clock cap would only retain the time and date with the power disconnected for about 2 hours anyway. 15. It look's alright I would remove the clock cap in the red circle The solder joints in yellow are ones I would resolder and while I have the iron hot add the 2 links in purple to enable the TSOP flash. But as KaosEnginer has mention delete the contents of the 3 drives 1st and see if that sorts it out. 16. I don't do softmods but do not unlock the drive as softmods require it to be locked. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  17. Can you post a pic of the insides of the xbox both power supply and main board as I am thinking capacitor failure may be the cause or the hard drive is failing or the files a seriously corrupt. If you can test a differant hard drive. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  18. Are you loading games from the hard drive? Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  19. There Aladdin modchip has 3 modes put it depends on if the led wires were connected. The write protect on or off should no make any difference though what game's are you having problems with and are they DVD or hard drive . Modes: Off - Tap the power button and the Xbox starts as normal with the original BIOS.On - Press and hold power button for 1 second and the Aladdin XT is activated.Writeprotect - Press and hold power button for 2 seconds and the Aladdin XT is activated in flash write protect mode.Visual Mode Indication: The power LED will indicate the current mode by different colors.Off - Green (Normal) / Orange (HDD access)On - Orange (Normal) / Green (HDD access) Writeprotect - Continuous flashing Orange/Green Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  20. I have seen people reporting no problems with a SSD in an Xbox long term. I have tried a 1tb SSD in a Xbox but because there was no real gains it was short lived and back to a 7200rpm WD black drive. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  21. That mod chip will not let the Xbox use a drive above 137gig. The you will need to softmod the xbox and also make sure the hard drive is locked To flash the TSOP you need to add 2 links on the board 1 on the top and 1 on the bottom. You then disconnect the D0 wire that's on the bottom and boot the Xbox It will boot to the softmod and then allow you to flash the TSOP with a new bios. Now you can install the new 2tb hard drive and boot of a install dvd to setup the new drive. Now that your Xbox is working with the new bios you could completely remove the modchip or just leave it there. 22. So it boot fine with the modchip disconnected? What color are the flashing lights? What modchip? Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

All electrolytic capacitors are going to fail and the clock cap's in the version 1.6 is now starting to fail as well. With the version 1.6 when the cap fails you need to replace it or the Xbox will not power on. This one has failed. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  24. That modchip is commonly called a cheap_mod and as far a I know to reflash it you needa external programer to flash the chip itself. I am guessing that the board is a version 1.0-1.1 and if it was me I would flash the TSOP chip and then you could remove that chip or fit a new modchip that can be flashed. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  25. As far as I have seen the blinking green led is the tray open when the DVD drive is unplugged on a Hard-modded (Mod-chip, TSOP flash)Xbox and the eject button is pressed. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
