  1. I have one of these also, and it is VERY handy. I can clone a drive when I need to, which is often., and I can hook up through USB 3.0 and use FATXplorer if I need to modify anything. It's perfect. Not the same unit, but the same basic design.
  2. No, I can't think of a way that would happen. I'm just suggesting that because parts consoles (like a broken DVD drive) are inexpensive and it would give that guy an inexpensive way to try the mod out and make sure it's safe. I would say it's safer because it lowers your temps, as long as you don't fuxor your motherboard while removing the resistors.
  3. But why would cluster size cause crashing like this?
  4. Does anybody know if a T862 is sufficient to pull this off? I really don't want to invest a bunch of money in a huge BGA machine. @Donnie-Burger
  5. I doubt there would be slowdowns if you did this. Although you are running at a lower voltage, your clock speed is still the same. It is possible that there may be lockups when undervolted, but I'm not sure if this is going to result in it. Maybe you could buy a used (":broken" "parts" ) console and try it out.
  6. You could always buy a motherboard and swap it in. You don't even have to modify the standoff since yours is the other way around. You have a 1.6 case and can do so without modification. The AV port standoffs will be a different length, I think, but other than that, no biggie.
  7. Yeah, If I'm not mistaken, Phillips drives have that issue. I have not found a reason why. Safe Mode in Cerbios uses UDMA-2 for diagnostic situations just like this. Pressing eject with a UDMA-6 version of Cerbios will prompt a Safe Mode boot.
  8. I didn't even know that. Thank you.' I have gotten Halo editions before usually by finding ones that are for "parts" or "not working" and it turns out to be a worn DVD/Drive belt. I wish more people could fix these things... but sometimes it is helpful that they are clueless.
  9. @NokSueCow Indeed, softmodding does have limitations and hardmodding will make your Xbox into the PC it desperately wants to be (in its own way, of course)
  10. Sorry to be a bother, but are you able to explain why these failing components would result in higher current draw? Is something behind them pulling more current as a result? I am in electronics classes and I feel the answer may be interesting if you have the answer. @HyPeRcOoLeR +1 for the CRT.
  11. When it comes to the LPC, sometimes people can damage their board trying to remove it. I have personally almost always just dropped in a 2X2 pin header next to the 2X6. Quick, easy, functional. However, I DO make sure that the 2x6 is already nice and flat and that the 2x2 section has pins that match in direction, otherwise there CAN be alignment issues. But usually it's totally fine.
  12. I feel the same way. I have both cables; the cheapos and the Monsters. There should absolutely be a middle ground between the two and I wish that making the cables was less time consuming, otherwise it would be a decent side hustle since there DOES seem to be a market for it. Crap, that's off topic. You know, I have about 30 Controllers in a box that could use these cables... I already have to replace all the thumbsticks and wash them/clean them.
  13. The "Demon" one looks SICK. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the X2 does the logo by embedding in the bios and the X3 uses a file on C (if present), correct?
  14. Oh I see. Sort of like how Alibaba will sell graphics cards that claim to be something much higher tier than what they truly are, by editing the EEPROM of the card and editing the entries. Your HDD capacity say it is a certain amount while only a fraction is available. This is because the seller assumes that it will be a while before you actually fill up the actual capacity of the drive and that they will have time to sell more counterfeits while you are happily accumulating data, unaware that you will hit a wall much sooner than you anticipated.
  15. I was going to suggest corrupt firmware, but I thought that would have been unhelpful since I had no idea HOW that would happen unless you removed the IDE cable while the console was on, and even THEN it should only corrupt the drive contents, not the firmware... I'm not even sure what a counterfeit drive IS... What is faked? Where did you source the drive from?
  16. I am invoking the HDD/EEPROM god: @Dtomcat18
  17. When you say "the key is all bugged" you are referring to the HDD key being corrupt?
  18. @ChriZz I DID mention it, yes.
  19. https://www.se7ensins.com/forums/threads/xecuter-2-6-bios-tutorial.11829/ Build the bios with X2BM: https://mega.nz/file/8uFSFJaD#iXLBWx5LjSZxqfKGXd2QdLWE5AqZHdyw3y4ENyNhgQ8 Just there if you want them.
  20. What I have started to just BARELY see is the beginning of these flash chips just going bad. Have you tried reflashing the banks and writing fresh data to them, as opposed to just switching banks?
  21. You're saying the loose SMDs have been returned to their designated homes? That's pretty much essential! Glad you didn't get a bunch of blank TSOPs. I feel like a dick! That's a perfect example of me posting when I shouldn't!
  22. THANK YOU, Fringle. Yes, these chips will be blank and need to be programmed... Maybe @Fringle and I can both send one and you will then have two. Please forgive me for being stupid and not thinking of this.
  23. @Petrolhead At the risk of posting pointlessly: "What he said." I would like to make this same point also. I would honestly go over the whole boards with alcohol and some brushes and CLEAN those puppies. Then, take a VERY close look at all the solder points on the board (IC legs, SMD components, etc) and make sure nothing is bridging/shorting anything.
