  1. No, that won't work. If the Xbox boots from the LPC it will only try to flash to the LPC even if the chip is removed. You're going to have to set it up to boot into a softmod installer. You can grab the XboxHDM version of Rocky's softmod installer from his GitHub or Google Drive pages and edit the config.xml file to allow file explorer access when it's in the the installer menu (UnleashX) then copy the installer to C. Also copy your desired BIOS .bin file to C:\BIOS and copy the XBlast OS .xbe file to anywhere on the HDD. The recommended BIOSes are EvoX M8+ or iND-BiOS. If you go with M8+ make sure that you configure the BIOS to look for your dashboard on boot before flashing. If you go with iND make sure to place an ind-bios.cfg file on C that points to your dashboard. Once all that is done, power off the Xbox, remove the chip and power the Xbox back on. It should boot directly into the softmod installer. If you had edited the config.xml earlier to allow file explorer access, you can now open the file explorer, navigate to wherever you installed XBlast OS and launch it, then flash the TSOP. If you did everything correctly, the console is now TSOP flashed and should boot to your desired dashboard location. You can now delete C:\BIOS, the softmod files and, if you want to, XBlast OS.
  2. Definitely a lot better than the old, ultra bright, retina burning one. lol
  3. I'll second ImgBurn, as that's what I use. For burn speed, select the slowest option available for your PC's optical drive.
  4. You don't need any of that to flash a TSOP. Just put the BIOS file you want in C:\BIOS and then run XBlast OS to flash it. If you're flashing iND-BiOS or X2 5035, you also need C:\ind-bios.cfg and E:\x2config.ini, respectfully. If you really must use a disc for some reason, then use HeXEn, but really, just use XBlast OS.
  5. Make sure you check which revision it is and remove the clock capacitor if it's a 1.0-1.5. Otherwise it will kill the Xbox.
  6. Just F. You only create a G partition for HDDs larger than 1TB.
  7. Rocky's Extras Disc has XBMC4Gamers and XBMC-Emustation, but there's no reason to use a disc to install them and wear out the dying laser. Just download the dashboards from Rocky's GitHub and FTP them to the Xbox. And you don't need to use a .xbe shortcut. Just change your BIOS' boot path to point to XBMC4Gamers.
  8. It will format a HDD the same, but from what I recall it's worse for installing a dashboard and for flashing a BIOS since it uses a stock xbe for UnleashX instead of a patched one and its EvoX M8+ BIOS files still force the DVD drive check on the user.
  9. Got mine a few days ago. Works great. I noticed that several pins are not soldered on the player 2 module. I'm guessing those aren't needed for the slave modules then and I can ignore them when installing modules 3 & 4?
  10. There is nothing different or special about Japanese consoles, no. Not unless it was a limited edition version, which it's not. That Xbox is a 1.0 though, so it has a bad clock capacitor that needs to be removed ASAP before it destroys the motherboard.
  11. YOu don't need to use a disc to update your dashboards. You can just grab them online and FTP them to the Xbox.
  12. Like Kaos said, it's a 1.4 and it has some pretty bad clock cap leakage that you need to take care of.
  13. That save is evidence enough that it was softmodded. However it appears that it was incorrectly softmodded (they used a very outdated installer). So you'll want to upgrade the softmod to JCRocky5's Xbox Softmodding Tool. From that link, go to the installer variants section and download the Quick Upgrade tool. Then FTP that to your Xbox's E partition and run it. Once you are upgraded, use the NKPatcher Settings application to null your HDD key (NKPatcher Settings is installed with Rocky's upgrade). By upgrading to Rocky's softmod, you will automatically have your dashboard switched to UnleashX. You'll want a bigger HDD to play backups. While you can burn games to DVDs, you should never use this option because Xbox DVD drives have extremely high failure rates these days. If you keep putting extra strain on the laser, you're just going to kill it faster. Run everything from the HDD instead. Load times are also better this way. Your Xbox is a 1.6, so the clock capacitor is fine. Do not remove it.
  14. Could be a compatibility issue with the flash drive (yes, even if saves are writing to it). The Xbox is very picky about flash drives. Also FYI, don't use SID. It's terrible and outdated. Use JCRocky5's Xbox Softmodding Tool instead. And null the HDD key after the softmod is installed.
  15. The last version Microsoft ever released was 5960.
  16. If the two softmodded Xboxes are not 1.6 boards, it'd be better to just TSOP flash them instead of using a modchip.
  17. Run Enigmah-X and switch to NTSC. Your PAL games should still work fine. If you softmodded correctly (used Rocky's installer, instead of crap like SID or Ndure) you will already have the NKPatcher Settings application, which can also be used to switch video modes without needing Enigmah-X.
  18. Oh. If it's just booting into MS dashboard, then you will need HeXEn or some other disc with FTP access in order to copy XBlast over. FTP is what you use to do all file transfers with an Xbox.
  19. Nice. Just ordered one myself. Just to be clear, if I wanted to add 3 and 4 player support, all I'd have to do is add some pin headers to the P3 and P4 areas and solder two extra boards to them, right? And on that note, where would I get the extra boards in blue to match the main unit? The sparkfun link on the GitHub page appears to have them in red with no option to choose a different color.
  20. DVD+R is iffy. DVD-R with ImgBurn is what's recommended. If the Xbox already boots into a modded dashboard and you're just trying to flash the chip, you can use XBlast OS instead of having to burn a DVD for HeXEn. Just make sure the BIOS' boot path is set up so it can see your dashboard after the flash.
  21. Yeah. I FTP by connecting straight to my PC all the time.
  22. You null the HDD key in the EEPROM settings under the advanced menu in NKPatcher Settings, which is an app that's installed with Rocky's softmod. If your Xbox is only softmodded, you have to use xbe shortcuts to redirect to a different dashboard on boot up. That, or you can place the new dashboard into one of the several locations that Rocky's boot configuration looks for, but there are a ton of them and I don't remember what they all are. Rocky's softmod package includes an ISO for an Extras Disc. You can burn this to a disc, or better yet, save your DVD drive laser from additional stress and instead extract the contents of the ISO into a folder and FTP that to the Xbox and run it from the HDD. In the disc is a feature to reinstall the stock dashboard as an app if you really want it back.
  23. It's much better to completely null the HDD key so that eeprom backups are no longer needed.
  24. No, of course you have to solder. How else would you disable the TSOP's write protection? XBlast OS isn't any easier or harder, it's just better. It's a modern application that can flash any chip and, unlike what dark said above, XBlast OS does resize a smaller BIOS to fit a larger bank. HeXEn is clunky because it uses two different applications for flashing, each of which are outdated and suffer from some kind of limitation that the other doesn't (EvolutionX can't flash Windbond, but will resize, while Gentoox won't resize, but can flash Winbond). With HeXEn you need to know what kind of TSOP you have and then pick the right option based around it. With XBlast it doesn't matter and you just get all benefits in one package. Plus HeXEn is a mess and copies a bunch of shit to the HDD that you probably don't want when all you're trying to do is flash.
  25. TSOP and modchip are the same yes. They're hardmods. Hardmods are better than softmods because they remove the need to lock the HDD, they aren't required to have a DVD drive connected to boot up and they can cold boot into unsigned code, which can be used boot utility discs to fix dashboard problems, or format new HDDs without needing to clone with Chimp. Other, smaller benefits would be allowing for extra RAM (1.0-1.5 only) and the ability to customize the boot animation with some BIOSes. I always hardmod my Xboxes (via TSOP flashing, though I have also done modchips) and I avoid 1.6 Xboxes because of the lack of a TSOP and their other limitations.
